Embedded Search Index AND Document Security?

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Standard 8.1.7.
It appears that I cannot have both an embedded search index and restricted security (e.g., password required to change document) on the same document.
Why is that?
If I start with security ON and then attempt to embed a search index, I get below error message:
A search index can not be embedded in this document because this document has restricted security permissions.
If I start with security OFF, successfully embed a search index, and then secure the document, Acrobat "strips off" the previously embedded search index.  No warning message; no feedback to end-user; just kills it!
Why are those two functions mutually exclusive?  Anyone know of a work-around?
Thank you in advance!

Hi,
As to "why", that might be floating out there in Adobe's devnet space or in one of the blogs maintained by Adobe's devnet crew.
Also good to know about use of embedded index - if used, cannot apply fast web view to the PDF. It is one or the other, but not both.
Work around? I've not come across one; but, that does not mean something isn't "out there" <g>.
Be well...

  • TREX index and document search in 7.0

    Hello everyone,
    Could someone clarify next question?
Is it possible to use TREX to index CRM 7.0 objects's attachments to search attachment?
And if yes, could you provide me with roadmap and documents?
    Thank you in advance!

    Michael,
Were you able to find the solution. If yes, please provide some information.

  • Search index - and high availability

Running Search on WFE(A) and APP(B) server - with this topology.
The company relies heavily on the Search Index - so a reset of the index isn't always an option, and the re-build takes a lot of time, so in order to avoid a index reset.
Is it possible to build a server X that holds the Index copy for server A+B and then when a reset is necessary on server A+B - tell SP2013, it now have to utilize the index that "sits" on server X, while rebuilding is done on server A
    + B?
Can I build a separate index for a specific content source/site collection? - so the content source
e.g. "http://contoso.com" are in search indexY and the "http://contoso.com/sites/" is in IndexZ   - and that way only reset indexZ and not touch indexY?
Does a second "Search Service Application" contribute/solve any?

    Hi,
1.Yes,you can add a new index partition consists of server A and server X(replica) , and add another index partition consists of server B and server Y(replica). For more information, you can refer to the article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj862355(v=office.15).aspx#Search_Index_Part
2.No,you cannot. But you can reset index at site level and list level.
    https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Manually-request-crawling-and-reindexing-of-a-site-9afa977d-39de-4321-b4ca-8c7c7e6d264e
3.No, you donot need to create a seacond "Search Service Application".

  • Index and document name question

First of all, thanks for an XML database that actually works. After trying multiple other DBs, I was finally able to insert my 100000 XML documents and it worked.
I inserted all the documents using dbxml_load_container which uses the filename and DBXML_GEN_NAME and inserts it to the container.
Now for my purpose I will always query a specific document by its name which would be something like:
    $query = "collection('exampleData.dbxml')/*"/*[dbxml:metadata('dbxml:name')=somename]";
(correct me if the query is wrong).
Do I need to create any sort of indexes or anything for such queries? I will never query the container based on some attribute or node value or anything.
    Thank you.

    Hi
Do I need to create any sort of indexes or anything for such queries? I will never query the >container based on some attribute or node value or anything.
unique-node-metadata-equality-string for node {http://www.sleepycat.com/2002/dbxml}:nameYou do not need an index on the document names, as Berkeley DB creates the above index for you.
A query like this will use the index:
    query 'doc("emp1/dbxml_9")/employee'

  • Search Index and hyphens

    Hey
We use our UCM environment to store a lot of content that contains hyperlinks. Many of these hyperlinks cotain content that has content like:
    http://blah/car-hire/stuff.html
Our users have need to be able to search for parts of the URL's, and we are tripping over how these URL's are indexed. When they are searching for "car-hire" they get results for "car-hire", "car_hire" and "car hire".
I am guessing that this is because hyphen ("-"), undescore ("_") and space (" ") are all treated as separators by the indexer.
Anyone have any suggestions on how we can force the index of hyphened words? I had a play around with the "AdditionalEscapeChars" setting, but I couldn't get it to make any difference.
    We are using Version:11gR1-11.1.1.6.0-idcprod1-111219T111403 (Build:7.3.3.183)
Our Search Engine is set as: SearchIndexerEngineName=OracleTextSearch
    Cheers,
    A

To see if this is an issue with the way the search engine is handling the hyphens, try running this query instead:
    http://blah/car{-}hire/stuff.html
The braces tell OTS to treat the "-" as a string literal as opposed to an operator.
If this works, the issue is that the search engine is trying to execute the search EXCLUDING the stuff that comes after "car".  This is somewhat standard search engine functionality, as a hyphen/minus sign is an instruction to "don't include items that contain the phrase following the minus sign."

  • Document Security Not Retaining Permissions

I have created a form in 7.0 and published it to my repository on my hard drive. I've uploaded the form to my site for my users. The form has three signature boxes as it's used in a workflow. I have full blown Acrobat 7 but my users don't. I can sign the forms but my users can't. My doc security says that signing is permitted. Their doc security says signing is not permitted. I'M LOST! I've read all the help files regarding digital signatures and document security - nothing is helping me. Is there a guru on this forum that could assist me?

    Hi Alex,
when you create a library and then go to the permissions settings for it it's set to not inherit permissions?
Ans : It Does not have any inherited permissions from the parent site.
Does it have a copy of the standard permissions set? If not what does it have and what is it missing from the site default?
    Ans : No. Empty permissions.
But whenever i stop and start apply inherited permissions on the parent site works fine (I mean apply to all document library). but i could not do it all time whenever the new library create. I hope whenever the permissions changes on the parent site may
affect the document lib permissions. pls help how to proceed ?

  • Reader extensions vs Document security order

    Hi!
I need to process the document by both the Reader extensions and Document security. If I do first Reader extensions and than certify document, reader extensions becomes invalid. If I certify document first and than proceed reader extensions, big warning about invalid signature is displayed.
    How to solve this problem?
    Thank you,

    The correct order is Certify->ARES

  • Indexing and searching on a web repository -- No document excerpt available

    Hi everybody,
I created a web repository with content of our intranet. I also created a index for this web repository. Everything seems to work fine. But when I search on the index no document excerpt is shown. It says: "No document excerpt available" under each search result.
I think no full text index is performed, where and how can I tell that I want a full text index?

  • Searching for Easy DMS documents using embedded search

    Dear Experts,
we are using easy dms to manage documents. As far as I know it should be possible to index these documents using TREX.
-it is possible to perform a search for these documents using Embedded Search an get the search results as XML (a documentation would be very helpful)?
-how can the security be taken into account? Is there a method like AUTHORITHY_CHECK by SeS to perform security check?
thanks a lot for your help
    kind regards
    Nicolai

I found that authorization checks can be performed using the following authorization objects:
-Authorization Object C_DRAW_TCD (Activities for Documents)
-Authorization Object C_DRAW_TCS (Status Dependent Authorization)
    -Authorization Object C_DRAW_STA (Document Status)
    -Authorization Object C_DRAW_BGR (Authorization Group)
    -Authorization Object C_DRAW_DOK (Document Access)
    -Authorization Object C_DRAD_OBJ (Object Link)

  • Trouble with CHM Search & Index after Importing Word Document

    Greetings,
I have recently inherited all things RoboHelp at work, but the last person to work with our projects left 6 months ago.  I received a brief overview of how our CHM files were generated from the same word document in RH HTML 7.
Currently, I am using RoboHelp HTML 9, but am having trouble with the Index and Search functionality from an imported Word 2003 (.doc) file.  During my import, only a single topic is created and named after the source document.  I believe this may be the root of my problems, but haven't had much luck with a solution.
I have stumbled my way through setting after setting, but feel I am missing something obvious.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ken
    Background:
Our source documents have a working TOC and Heading 1-3 structure.  When creating a new project and importing the document, the TOC is imported correctly.  The TOC navigations links seem to function correctly.
I have used the Smart Index Wizard to find new keywords from topic titles and topic text.  Unfortunately it seems the import only creates a single topic named after the source word document and therefore associates all keywords with the single topic.  when trying to navigate the index after the CHM is generated, all links simply reference the beginning of the document.
When using the search feature in the CHM, only a single result is returned for any search words.  This result is always the single topic as described above.  The results link always returns you to the start of the document but does highlight the keyword throughout the document.

When you import there is an Advanced button in one of the dialogs. Click that and you will be able to Paginate against chosen styles. That will break your document into topics.

  • Ultra Search Indexer: Adding 'alien' document types.

The way the Ultra Search indexer finds src material will not work in my situation. While I may be able to give it databases to crawl, it cannot crawl our content, so the way that you tell the indexer about 'alien' document types by adding custom code to return lists of URLs so the indexer can read the src documents won't work in my scenario.
I want to know what the Ultra Search application does special when indexing documents?
Is there a description so I can reproduce using Oracle Text and perhaps point the Ultra Search querying component against my manufactured repository and have it work?
    Thanks.

Is there a way to set up finder search with additional criteria so that it isolates file extensions with .docx, .pdf, .txt all in one single search?
currently the "kind is document" also brings up .jpgs and .wavs which I dont want, (or consider documents).

  • Uniqueness and document searches.

I have an application where I need to enforce the uniqueness of an entire document structure. In a relational database, I'd create a unique index across all columns, but I realize that's not really possible using an xml database. Is there any way, other than a linear search across all documents, for me to enforce uniquness of an entire document? The document follows a pretty simple DOM structure, but the tree can be arbitrarily deep (although it tends not to be very deep in most cases)
I was thinking of keeping a separate container as uniqueness index and keeping lists of documents by their MD5 hashes in it, but was hoping there was a more elegant way to go about it.
    Thanks,
    Daniel Peebles

    Hi Daniel,
If you do go the hash route, you could consider storing that as a metadata field right in the XML document (perhaps not hashing on the metadata).
You could then add a Berkeley DB XML Uniqueness Index on the (result of the hash) metadata.
I'm assuming there is no single element in the document that could be a primary key since that would be a better choice.

    Hi there,
I just read this thread, and maybe someone here can answer my current trex question:
I have created an ordinary CM repository, and created an index with this repository as source. Now the problem: I would like to exclude files in the repository with specific mimetypes from the TREX indexing process.
I have verified that the TrexValidMimetypes.ini does not contain any reference to the Mimetypes I'm creating, but never the less, the document titles are searchable and are returned when searching.
How do I get around this issue?
Is it possible in NW04 or EP6.0 SP3 PXXX??

    Appreciate any assistance pls.

    Hi Dex,
Please check if there was a dump recorded in ST22. Also perform an authorization check SU53 for the background user that submits the job.
