Embedded streamin widescreen .MOV truncating width in FireFox

I am new at embedding streaming .mov video.
My embedded .mov at
http://www.zenondudasculpture.com/requiemvideo300.html
is truncating its width in everyone's FF1.5.0.7 no matter what I try. It runs perfectly in wide-screen in IE, and in standalone QT Player 7+. Please see it in IE6 for what it's supposed to be like. I am stumped and the client is, well, "miffed" shall we say.
Would appreciate some help or suggestions.
Thanks.
Rod

I have an issue...I converted some .mov file and enabled streaming. When I view this file via my website using Mozilla the streaming performs fine. When I do the same using internet explorer 6 or 7, the streaming doesn't work. I think I am missing some kind of pluggin that allow quicktime to stream on internet explorer. Can you help with this
Here is the file that I am using.

• Widescreen TV vs Widescreen Movies

I have a ATV, I have a question.
Why do widescreen Movies (IE Cars) render as widescreen properly (black bars on the top and bottom), but widescreen tv shows (IE Battlestar Galactica, Heroes) fill the entire screen? On my iPod you could choose between WS or full screen, but on my ATV you cannot.
This is making the shows look aweful and distorted.
Any suggestions?
iMac G5 20 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Why do widescreen Movies (IE Cars) render as widescreen properly (black bars on the top and bottom), but widescreen tv shows (IE Battlestar Galactica, Heroes) fill the entire screen? As tsvisser has already said, there are many "widescreen" aspect ratios -- 16:9 (1.78:1), 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.40:1, etc. In many cases, the DVD manufacturer is kind enough to state the intended original aspect for the user. In this case, a user can combine a crop/scale approach to equating the exact number of picture lines to an exact aspect ratio. Where not given, the aspect ratio can usually be inferred by simply "cropping" the source file and calculating what is left rounded to the nearest normal ratio.
So much for "exactness" in aspect ratios -- now it's time to throw in a "monkey wrench." When it comes to aspect ratios and encode/decode efficiency, some applications (like MediaFork/HandBrake) do not allow the user to define "exact" aspect ratios. In this case, "macro-blocks" (16 x 16 pixels) are used to determine "valid" dimension settings. (I.e., the application will only allow the user to select heights and widths which are evenly divisible by 16.) For example, a 720 x 405 encode would provide an exact 16:9 (1.78:1) aspect ratio, but some applications will only allow you to use a 720 x 400 setting (45 x 25 macro-block matrix) which means your actual aspect ratio ends up as 1.80:1. Luckily, most people would not notice the difference so there is no real harm done.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• Embedding Captivate 4 Movies in PDF

I created a PDF document using Acrobat 8 that has 3 Captivate 4 movies embedded. The movies play just fine on Windows but only play for 5 seconds on macs. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, please let me know what the solution is. I have searched on the Community Help and can't find anything related to this problem. Thanks.

• Is there a way to set min and max tab widths in firefox 17 or 18?

The browser tab width maximum and minimum options are no longer in about:config and the "tab width clip" has no effect on tab width in firefox 17 or 18.

hello, the browser.tabs.tabClipWidth setting does only specify beyond which width a close button is shown on the tab. in order to set a custom tab size you can use this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-tab-width/

• Burning Widescreen movies

When I burn iDVDs - the Apple templates for the menu titles come out fine in widescreen format (16:9)
But the widescreen movies I add to be played - get condensed into Standard 4:30 format on playback.
How can I get my movies to play in the original widescreen format?

It should be allowed.
it is not smart to limit on what a person can do on what they brought like a movie's or a TV series.
What is the point of buying to download it if you are not able to burn it to DVD.
With qflix you can really burn what you buy to DVD but right now qflix can only be used with CinemaNow.
qflix is a DVD burner.

• Importing 4:3 clip into widescreen movie

I am putting together a movie that contains pictures and videos. I have two sources of video - one is widescreen 16:9 and the other is 4:3. How do I import a 4:3 clip into a widescreen movie?
I don't mind if the movie ends up 4:3. Would it be better/easier to import a clip from a 16:9 format into a 4:3 movie?

When you Import that 4:3 footage into the 16:9 Project, do you have any problems?
If the files Import fine, into the 16:9 Project, you have two choices: leave the black bars, or Scale the footage up, effectively cropping off some of the top & bottom, or, with Motion>Position, one of those.
Good luck,

• How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

How can I widen the vertical scroll bar width in Firefox and Thunderbird?

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

• Chart legend width in Firefox

This may already be common knowledge, but we just bumped into what may be the cause of truncated chart legends in Firefox.
I have been trying to figure out how to expand the width of the legend box that accompanies charts. Firefox sometimes renders the legend box too short to display the full value character strings. But sometimes Firefox renders the legend box with a wider width, so the value strings have plenty of room to fully be displayed.
IE, on the other hand, reduces the font of the text in the legend box and so can display the full values.
And then a co-worker noticed a pattern in the way Firefox renders the legend box.
If the "data point limit" set for a pie chart, for instance, is at least as great as the greatest number of values that can be displayed, Firefox renders the legend box with enough room for the full value character strings. It does not truncate the legend box.
For example, if the largest number of values that can be displayed in a pie chart is 10, if the "data point limit" for the chart is set to 11 or more, Firefox will render a legend box with sufficient width to display the full value strings.
On the other hand, if the "data point limit" is set to 10 or less when there can be 10 or more values for the column driving the pie chart, then Firefox will render a legend box that may not be wide enough to display the full value strings. The strings will thus be truncated to the render width of the legend box.
So far this behavior appears consistent. I

Actually, it is necessary only to set the "data point limit" equal to, not greater than, the maximum number of column values for a chart. So if the maximum number of column values is 10, if the "datda point limit" is set to 10, the legend box will be wide enough to display the full value strings. It can be set to a number greater than 10 as well, but that is not necessary for the legend box to be wide enough.

• Movie truncated

I created a dvd full of images and movie on iDVD. When i play my DVD on my dvd player (Bose Lifestyle 38) to my Sony Widescreen LCD TV, 2 fat vertical black bands on either sides of the screen truncating the menu and the movie. However, images seem to show up properly (within the bands).
I tried creating the movie on both 4:3 and 16:9 format but still have the same problem. Any takers?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you added the movie directly to the menu screen then it will be affected by TV overscan which is most prominent on CRT TV sets. It's the nature of the beast. However, you can add the movie to an iDVD slideshow as seen below, and setiDVD's slideshow preferences to Scale to TV Safe area like SDIllini suggested and the movie will be scaled to the TV Safe Area.

• Getting widescreen .mov to properly letterbox

I have a 624x352 .mov file and want to burn a properly letterboxed DVD on a regular TV. I cannot figure out a way to do it with just iDVD. If I pick a 4:3 theme and drop in the movie I get no letterboxing with the DVD, just a pan and scan DVD. A widescreen theme is just wrong. The only way I have figured out how to do this is to drop the movie into iMovie with format DV, then share to iDVD (a 4:3 theme) and then burn. This seems to play properly on a DVD player. But the weird thing is that if I play this on my Mac fullscreen I get black on all sides. Get info says 720x480 but it clearly is wider than 720. But it could be even wider with no black bars on the sides. This is clearly different from a commercial DVD which will fill up the entire width and letterbox top and bottom.
Does anyone know how to make this work other than the way I said?
MacBook Pro 17" Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I cannot figure out a way to do it with just iDVD.
Ok , but why use only iDVD when this might help?

Get info says 720x480 but it clearly is wider than 720.
Yes...and no....
Anamorphic DV is 720 X 480, just like normal DV, but when it is displayed it is stretched to 16:9 format......both have the exact same number of pixels before they are displayed

• Widescreen movies on iWeb

I recently cut a little movie in iMovie that was dv widescreen. When I went to share it to iWeb, I found it had squeezed the video. Is there a way to change the settings so it keeps it unsqueezed when exporting to iWeb. I tried to export using QT and expert settings, but it came back with a huge file. Does anyone know if there is a set up I should use? This is a major mistake by Apple not to have this export correctly at the right dimensions. Thanks in advance for any help.
Drew

My friend has mastered the black art of video compression Here is his advice for compression withQuicktime:
You end up standardizing on simple settings pretty quick. My
favourite at the moment is:
- From the Export dialog, select "Movie to MPEG-4" (not Quicktime Movie)
- for the audio use Mpeg4 audio (AAC) at 44.1Khz, 128kbps, which is
pretty much set in stone (I use "best quality"; never tested)
- for the video use H.264 and set the data rate to the same number as
the width of the movie. (So a 512 pixel wide movie gets a video data
rate of 512 kbits/sec)
If you are going to resize a movie, then there's a bunch of other
stuff you can do
- crop out all the black, ie. letterboxing, black borders, even tiny
ones
- resize the movie so that each dimension is divisible by 16. They
must be divisible by 4 - 8 is better - 16 is the best. I actually
cheat on 720x404 moives (standard DVD display size) and squish them
to 720x400 cuz 404 is only divisible by 4. And it makes sense, all
the other normal (PAL) resolutions divide up nicely and are divisible
by 16.
Full - 1024x576 (actually 720x576 stretched wide)
Three quarter - 720x404
Half - 512x288
Quarter - 256x144
I have no idea what the NTSC (N. American TV sizes are). It doesn't
matter though, as long as you stick to the 'divisible by 16' rule.
email me at [email protected] for more on this.
