Embedded Video in PDF Problem

I have created a single page PDF file with an embedded FLV file and a bit of text that has a hyperlink to my web site. This file plays just fine for me, but I have a tester who reports:
"On my computer it downloads as a black screen with white letters at the bottom that is a link to your web site??? "
She also says:
"I have the latest Acrobat Reader - 10 and I have a Mac OSX-10.5.8"
This works fine on my Windows XP and Windows 7 machines. I have her checking her Flash install and also her Quicktime. Would either of these perhaps be the problem? I'm not familiar with the Mac and its issues.

If she were really viewing it in Adobe Reader X, there should be no problem viewing an embedded FLV file.

If you embed a video file into a PDF page using Acrobat X Pro, the only formats it will permit are Flash or H.264. The resulting object is called a Rich Media Annotation (RMA), and plays using the embedded copy of Flash Player when viewed in Adobe Reader 9+ or Acrobat 9+. It does not use any external software whatsoever, and will play back identically on Windows and Mac. Even if you have the standalone Flash Player installed on your computer, it will not be used. This ensures the highest possible levels of security, and a guaranteed user experience when viewing PDFs with the Adobe Acrobat Family. There is certainly no bias between Windows and Mac; in fact H.264 is so popular precisely because the videos don’t care what platforms they run on.
My hunch is she may really be viewing the file in Apple's Preview application (if it were set up as the default viewer on her computer).

How to play embedded video in PDF

Hi, does anybody know if it's possibible to play embedded video in PDF. We created PDF's with embedded MP4 content that plays nicely in Adobe Reader Win/Mac version but not under Android.

We are sorry, this is not yet supported in Adobe Reader on Android.

What do i have to do to avoid "loading flash" when embedding video in pdf?

I can embed h.264 video in pdf via acrobat pro or inDesign.
However, there's always a moment of waiting, Acrobat Background color flashes up,
before the movie is finally loaded and played back.
I have seen Tutorials where this doesn't occur,
but no difference seeable from what i do.
Any ideas how to avoid this behaviour that occurs however i embed the video.
Second problem: When i play the mebedded video in the full size of the presentation
it kind of gets stuck on the slide. You have to hit the arrow button several times
until at some point it actually advances to a random slide further down the presentation.
My computer is very powerfull and i use the newest InDesign CC and Acrobat XI.
I read all the help and i do what Adobe says i should do.
Is it possible that Adobe just can't handle Video in PDF on a professional level??
Any hints on how to make this look right is appreciated!

Adobe's promotion of Rich Media in PDF has reduced of late, it's no longer a headline feature for the Acrobat team (though the Frame guys seem addicted to it). Flash within "documents" is a legacy concept - sorry but that's just how it is. More and more people are consuming documents on devices or apps which cannot and will never support Flash/JavaScript/etc. that it's ruining the core principle of PDF - namely that a page looks the same to everyone.
Adobe's decision is that media-enabled interactive files (called "publications", not documents) are now the domain of HTML5 (Edge, Muse, etc) or native apps (DPS). That's where the development is being concentrated.

Embedding video in PDF

I am trying to embed video in PDFs. Specifically, we are trying to embed Quicktime videos we have exported from Keynote (animated presentations exported uncompressed, then compressed with Compressor).
I am having two issues: 1) I can't get Acrobat 7.0 Pro to run on my MBP (I have heard there is a patch due out in January for Acrobat on Leopard which may solve this issue). 2) When we try to embed the Quicktime videos on Acrobat on a PC, it forces us to convert the video to a PC format (avi, wmp, etc.).
Isn't there a way to embed Quicktime movies into Acrobat? Do we just have to wait until Acrobat runs on Leopard?
Finally, is there a way to make these PDFs (with their embedded Quicktime video) 'pack and go' so the end users (mostly on PCs) can view them without downloading patches or plugins?

Embedded video in PDF shows blank

Hi,
I am using Acrobat 9 Pro. I have a PDF and a .mp4 video on a web-server. The mp4 is about 26 Mb in size. If I open the video on the browser (IE) it works.
However when I embed this video in my PDF using a 'Video tool' it plays only the audio and does not show the video. I read somewhere about the file name length. the file name is ps1.mp4.
Can someone please help resolving this.

Does this only affect one video, or every PDF you open with embedded video content?
If the latter it is probably an issue with your video card. First, I'd try disabling hardware acceleration in Acrobat's preferences > page display, and switching to software mode on preferences > 3D and multimedia > preferred renderer.

Cannot run video on iPad of embedded video on PDF created in acrobat

I Created a PDF using Acrobat DC on my desk top. Video runs fine. Dropped PDF in Dropbox. Opened PDF on iPad. PDF opens, video won't run on iPad. Any suggestion?

Embedded Video Audio Sync Problem

I have been exporting Flash Video from Adobe Premiere
Elements 3.0. I import the .FLV into Flash 8 as embedded video. The
published .SWF works fine, audio and video start in sync and stay
in sync, but about 3/4 through the video, audio stops.
This occurs no matter how short or long the exported clip.
I did my best searching through these forums, looking for an
answer to this issue, but have had no success.

Do you need to embed the FLV file in the SWF file? I would
recommend playing the FLV as an external file. If you need to use
embedded video, make sure the frame rates are identical (SWF and
FLV). I can't remember if Premiere Elements enables you to output
with Raw audio for FLV files, but Flash 8 (or CS3) will recompress
an embedded video's audio track on publish/export--so, try to use
Raw if you can to avoid recompression. This might have something to
do with your problem too, the recompression of the MP3 audio track
in your original FLV when re-exporting as embedded video in the
SWF. (Your audio stream setttings in the Publish Settings control
the quality/recompression of your FLV output when embedded in the
SWF.)

Embedding Video into PDF

This is likely an easy answer, but I haven't been able to find an answer either by searching through the Help file or this forum. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out.
I have been adding FLV files to a PDF, having them launch whenever you select the appropriate place on the map. This works absolutely wonderful, however I've been unable to figure out to have these files entirely embedded. If I move the PDF to another computer, the videos won't play as the videos are on another PCs. Is there a way to truly embed the FLV?

The Multimedia tool in Acrobat X will always embed the files you pick, unless you enter a remote URL in the dialog (i.e. it starts http:// or rtmp://). There is no option to link to a video file stored on your computer (as you would in PowerPoint for example), as the security sandbox in Acrobat and Adobe Reader prevents reading from the local disk.
You can tell they're embedded by looking at the file size. If they're not playing back on another computer, it's a problem with your installation on that computer.

Embedding video in PDF issues

I have been trying to get videos to play in an interactive PDF exported from InDesign CS6 and CS5 to no avail. I have no problem doing this from CS3 with the old single export dialogue. With CS6 and CS5 I just get a charcoal gray box. I am trying to get it to play on page load with no controller. Even if I set it to have a controller I get no playback. If I don’t set it to play on page load it actually shows my poster and tells me to “click to activate” but upon clicking it goes to the charcoal box.
I have tried converting to different file types and codecs but nothing works. I have tried the original .mov, .mp4 rendered with H.264, F4V rendered with H.264, FLV rendered as On2 VP6. Nothing.
While I can do this on CS3 I shouldn’t have to. This should be pretty standard stuff. I am trying to figure out the proper system for everyone in the office to be able to embed video in presentations while working on CS6. These are intended for overhead projections. Any advise would be appreciated.

Well, I think I can narrow this to codec and file type. I have been working with videos given to me by my department and using Adobe Media Encoder to try variations. I finally tried a separate .mov video that I had kicking around on my personal server and it worked fine immediately.
My video is .mov with codecs MPEG-4 Video, Linear PCM. InDesign did give me the warning about it not being compatable with Flash. It can't give me a preview and it can't grab a poster image form the frames. It plays fine in Acrobat though. It is a small video: 6MB and at 480x480.
The .mov that I was given by the department is 1024x768 AAC, H.264. and 44.2MB. InDesign gives me no warning on this one and it can even grab a poster image from the frames but in Acrobat I get nothing. Same goes for all the variations I have made in Encoder.
So it seems it may be a file size, type, or codec issue. I do need to figure it out so I can recommend render settings to the team.

The desktop application record the Live Web Cam Video, as soon the video is saved in need to export the video or embedded in PDF .

3. WMI
Any media type format, but not flash file (.swf)

You are asking in the Adobe Reader user forum. Adobe Reader does not support the edit of / manipulation of PDF such as by insert of rich media (such as video).
You need Acrobat for that.

Embedded Video in PDF doesn't play in preview or google drive.

I'm working on an interactive PDF in InDesign with an embedded mp4 video. When I export the pdf the video only plays in adobe reader but not in preview. I also uploaded it to google drive to send to people but the video won't play on google drive either. Is this an issue with the way I'm embedding/exporting the interactive PDF or is this a compatibility issue with preview and google drive?
If the file is downloaded by someone who doesn't have adobe reader, how can I make sure the file will open in adobe reader for them?

There are hundreds of PDF readers. Most of them only view only simple files and fail with interactivity, or PDFs for specialized uses like prepress. As Bob said, the only readers you can be sure of are Adobe Reader and Acrobat. Tell your viewers to download the FREE Adobe Reader to get the best viewing experience, and provide a link to Adobe Reader.

Embedding video in PDF, keeps says it cant convert and need Acrobat Pro Extended?

I have Acrobat Pro 9 and with using the tool to embed video which seems to convert to a flash format, it keeps coming back saying its unable to convert and that I would need Acrobat Pro Extended. I tried a handfull of different video types and every one that I chose gave me the same message. All it will seem to do is somehow link to the video whcih will use the viewer installed on that persons computer to run. It seems to give you the ability to convert video over but it doesnt let you for anything you choose, what am I doing wrong?
I have Acrobat Pro 9 Extended at work which I tried the same thing with and of course, that worked. Is the Extended part by any chance just a patch for Pro 9 or is it a totally different purchase?

Looks like the following general observations apply.
If the multmedia file(s) meet the identified requirements for Professional it is "in".
If the multimedia file(s) do not, then conversion is required - but conversion is only available in Pro Extended.
That you get a "need conversion" message, from Pro that would be indicative of an input that does not meet the specified requirements for direct use in Pro.
An alternative might be to try "Create Legacy ..."
Legacy multimedia will rely on the end-user having the appropriate player application installed.

CS4 Premiere Pro EXPORT settings for embedding videos in PDF

I am trying to embed a few short videos into a PDF ebook and my PDF file size is massive. I want the videos to still look good quality as I put a lot of effort into making high quality videos for my ebook.
Does anybody have any advice for export settings in Premiere Pro for the use in PDF documents? I've played around with the various preloaded export settings but I'm wondering if I can customize the settings to look good in a PDF.
(I realize Acrobat will convert the video into flash for consistent play-black)
(And not sure if this matters but my current videos are 60fps 1280 x 720 HD shot with a Canon 7D)

Embedding videos in pdf's...

hello - i'm exporting clips i've editing in iMovie '09 as m4v's and converting them into flv's in adobe's media encoder (from a trial download of premier pro CS5) soasto embed them in a pdf...
- my frustrating problem is that some of the flv's [that play ok in finder] wont play in the pdf and when clicked on they just become a black frame - as if nothing's there..?..!
- i've been on to adobe who don't think there's a problem with my acrobat pro9 and thought originally using my flash CS3 encoder & premier pro CS3 to convert m4v's to flv's was problematic...
- has anyone come across this problem &/or can advise me..?

Problems with playback of embedded .mp4 videos in PDF

I am creating an ebook that has embedded videos that I made in Premiere Pro CS4.
They play back great in the PDF on my iMAC but when I email the pdf to my Windows laptop, the videos barely play! The Windows laptop has Acrobat 9 reader installed.
I have tried embedding the videos with the multimedia tool using the Flash format and also using the Legacy Multimedia Content option.
Why does Windows have so much trouble with the playback!? Most of my customers probably have Windows computers so I need to get this resolved.
Any thoughts?????

I'm using the Video Tool because the videos are .mp4 format. In the Insert Video dialog box it mentions that "Your multimedia will be converted to Flash format to ensure consistent playback across multiple platforms using Adobe Reader 9 or later."
Do you think it would be better to convert the videos to Flash and use the Flash Tool?
