Embedded Videos on Websites are Black

Hi, I am having an issue... when I go to a website that has video embedded, the spot where the video should be is black. I am running iOS 10.7.5 and I am using Safari 6.0,5; this is a recent occurance and cannot think of anything that would have caused this issue to begin. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Install the latest version of Adobe Flash Player

  • Installed FF 33.0, & now embedded images and videos on websites are blank. How fix? How roll-back to 32.0.3?

I installed FF 33.0, and "OpenH264 Video Codec by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.1" plug-in installed itself automatically. Did that cause this problem? I set it to "Never Activate," which seems to have disabled it, but the problem persists. Do I need H264 for any reason? If not, can I uninstall it, and if so, how? Also, how do I revert FF to a previous verson? V. 33.0 seems to have caused this problem, whether it's due to H264 codec or something else in this version. There seems to be some incompatiblity somehow that wasn't there before -- what can I do to fix this?

Are they blank or black? If they are black I would recommend disabling hardware acceleration. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
This does not cause an issue, it adds to the variety of codec types Firefox can render.

  • Some videos on websites are not showing, it is just blank.

Recently, and I'm not sure what I did, because I don't remember adding or changing anything, some videos just simply stopped working. I've checked plug-ins, made sure if I had the right player and Adobe says I do.
I can see youtube, and Vimeo and some others, but it seems to be when videos are embedded. All I get is a blank space where the video should be. It's just a white space. I can right click on it, and it gives me the options of settings and stuff, but nothing I do seems to work.
Embedded youtube and Vimeo videos work, but not others. Specifically videos from Daily Motion and MSN don't work, and I'm sure others don't as well.
The other three computers in my house hold play them fine, so I know it's just '''my''' computer. I'm not very technologically savvy, so I'm not sure what else to do. I'm running the latest FireFox and even Google Chrome is not playing the same videos.

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
It is possible that you clicked "Block Images" in the right click context menu while trying to save an image.
Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions<br />
See [[Options window - Content panel]]
*A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (<i>Site Identification</i> icon) on the left side of the location bar.
*A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Open the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Page Info" window.
*Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • I cant play many of websites embedded videos.

I cannot play many embedded videos on websites. Hulu tells me that i need to clear my browsing cache. I have done this multiple times. It does not work. I have tried restarting the computer, uninstalling firefox 3.6 and installing 3.5 but no progress was made. what do i do. Many other video websites do not work. This only happens with Mozilla. please help me fix it.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Cannot view embedded video with FP 11.8.800.175 on WIN 7 Laptop with IE 10.0.9 - hear audio

I am running a laptop with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer version 10.0.9.  I have loaded and reloaded Flash Player 11.8.800.175.  I want to be able to see embedded videos on websites like Bloomberg TV - all I get is the audio, screenshot below
Videos seem to work fine in YouTube.
I have tried the various fixes I have found on this site:
    - deleting flashplayer & macromedia folder as directed,
    - using regedit and finding the MIME folder and associated shockwave-flash key (I have tried changing permissioons as well as deleting the key) (found this in a thread but can't find it again)
    - Checked the activex settings
    - Checked the Manage Add-ons section in settings and all ok there.
But still do not see the video content - please help before I go crazy.

I've had this exact same issue (can hear, but not see MOST embedded web videos).  I can see and hear videos on YouTube, but on a site like Vimeo, I can hear the videos but cannot see them.  I have Windows 7, and the latest versions of IE and Chrome.  I get the same exact problem in both, so it doesn't seem to be a browser issue.  Is there any new input here?  Did you ever get the problem resolved or still looking for help?

  • Embedded videos from Youtube in firefox are black with sound. In Safari, they view just fine. What is the problem?

I created a Google site at the office and put two videos from youtube in the site. I did this using an earlier version of Firefox and they worked just fine.
Tonight I am using Firefox 9.01 and the two videos are black (no video) but have audio.
They are fine if I open Safari and view.
    What could be the problem?

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

  • Embedded videos in many websites won't open.

I have found that the embedded videos on many but not all websites won't open now when I'm browsing in Firefox. I am running 27.0.1. I have Adobe Flash Player installed so that's not an issue. As some examples of non-openers: Embedded videos in some of the news articles on Yahoo!'s home page; videos on the davidlynchfoundation.org site. I tried disabling the "Adblock Edge" add-on, but it didn't change anything. In many cases, their is a big empty space in the text where the video should be, i.e. there isn't any indication that there's a video there. In other cases, I click on the visible start icon, but the screen of the vid just goes to black.
When I switched to Safari, all of these embedded videos opened without a hitch. I'd rather continue with Firefox, but will have to switch to Safari if we can come up with a "fix" for this problem.
I have a MacBook running Snow Leopard. This is a new problem which I haven't experienced with Firefox previously.
BTW: I have only minimal tech skills.
Thanks for any advice/help you can provide.
    Dave

    Hi Yogidave,
It sounds like the videos are not loading properly. If there are not video controls, but there is a space for the video, this means that the item is loading, but the player is not loading.
    In understanding what you tried:
I tried disabling the "Adblock Edge" add-on - it looks like this is no longer in the list of add ons that you have in the troubleshooting information, when you took this out, do the videos still leave space in the page where the video should be?
The examples you used: Yahoo homepage and the davidlynchfoundation: I know the latter uses an embedded youtube video with has its own video player that uses flash, as well at Yahoo. (I am not sure if all the videos are flash in Yahoo)
Since this is the case, can you please check your extensions to see if you have Flash installed or if you have it disabled? If so, please turn it on and visit the sites that are giving you issues to see if this resolves the problem.
This article has pretty simple instructions how to install the player if it is not there[[Install the Flash plugin to view videos, animations and games]]
The only other test I can suggest is to see if another type of embedded video does the same thing. For example, if you have netflix or hulu, see if those video players do the same thing.
I hope this helps. (also I tested those pages in beta and it loads just fine, you are not short of watching videos again in firefox)

  • Cannot see embedded Youtube videos; I get a black screen

So, embedded Youtube videos suddenly stopped working. I can still watch videos on the Youtube website just fine. Making an embedded video fullscreen also allows me to see it. I have seen an answer on another thread asking to try Safe Mode. Interestingly, disabling every add-on and plugin (besides Flash and Shockwave) does not fix the issue, but using Safe Mode, which theoretically does the same thing, fixes it :S
The embeds are black screen, and when I hover the mouse over them I see the Refresh and HD buttons, but not the Youtube icon on the lower right. Clicking the lower right area still brings me to the Youtube website, so the button still works, just isn't visible. Reinstalling Waterfox and using a new profile do not fix the issue.
I can't test the issue on Firefox because it has a long-standing problem of the Flash Player crashing constantly every second, which rendered it unusable and is the reason I switched to Waterfox in the first place (in which Flash does not crash).
The troubleshoot information with all Waterfox add-ons disabled (which again, doesn't fix the issue, despite Safe Mode fixing it) can be seen by navigating to the "More system details" on the menu to the right.
    Thanks!

I had disabled hardware accel in Waterfox and it didn't fix the embeds, but doing so in Firefox fixed them for Waterfox! Odd. It didn't fix the constant Flash Player crashing, though. Thanks for solving the embeds!

  • Embedded videos from various websites no longer load

embedded videos from various websites no longer load. i just get a black mini screen with no controls. they do load when using other browsers and this only started within the last few days

i just tried safe mode and that makes no difference. the videos that do not load are ones embedded in websites such as the huffingtonpost etc. the website loads as normal. when i click on an article with a video the article appears but the area where the video usually appears is just a black box. typically that box contains a "promo shot" and video operating controls. recently this area is just black. this happens on numerous news type websites. when i use safari as my browser everything works fine

  • Embedded video is black but with audio, but the video works fine on youtube.

I'm having trouble with firefox not been able to display embedded video on sites.
I see the preview image but when i start play all video area becomes black and I can hear the audio playing. I also can pause the "video".
If I start firefox in safe mode, it works.
I have deactivated all my extensions/add-ons, without any success.
I have reset all cache, no success
I have restored to factory result, no success
I have uninstalled firefox, and deleting all local data and reinstalled firefox, still same problems.
I have tested to go to http://www.youtube.com/html5 and activated the html5 player, and then I see the play button, progressbar and volume etc, but still no video.
The video is working fine in IE 9 and Chrome (unknown version, but since it autoupdates it's probably the latest)
