Embedding a WMV video in WebHelp

I'm trying to embed a WMV video in a WebHelp project using RoboHelp 8. I can insert the video through Insert > Multimedia/Demo just fine, and it plays correctly. However it doesn't have the critically necessary controls for the media player. I did find the article entitled Creating and Customizing Online Documentation with RoboHelp, but like most RoboHelp documentation, it is so old (version X5!) and narrowly focused, that it is virtually worthless. It relies on TrueCode which, as nearly as i can tell, it long gone in RoboHelp 8. I've tried changing the <param name="ShowControls" value="0"  /> line in the HTML to a value of 1, but, true to form, RoboHelp 8 just promptly changes it back to 0. No matter how much I fight with it, I can't make RoboHelp leave the value at 1. (There are so many other circumstances where RoboHelp will not leave things the way I put them. Is there any way to get rid of this behavior?)
Is there any way to make RoboHelp show the media player controls? I can't imagine why it wouldn't default to showing the controls since the media player is absolutely worthless without the controls. Or, do I have to completely forego using video within RoboHelp projects? If I do, I can gurantee you that i will forego RoboHelp altogether.

Hi Willam
I do dislike it when RoboHelp insists on changing my tweaks in WYSIWYG mode. But it's like a friendly old dog. You gotta love it slobber and all.
One suggestion here would be to only edit pages containing the tweaks using something like Notepad. I think you already addressed that. What hasn't been mentioned to my knowledge, is that one has the ability to insert an inline frame to present content from another page. So my thought here was that one could use RoboHelp for managing all the content save the pages with the videos. And for those, you would present using inline frames.
Cheers and happy Friday all! Rick

  • Presenter 10 fails with embedded wmv videos

    Hi
    I have just upgraded from Presenter 9 to Presenter 10 and now the embedded *.wmv videos are not longer processed by Presenter 10!
    I am always facing the error message "There was an error encoding the file!" when trying to publish the presentation.
    I have dozends of presentations containing many *.wmv video files. Presenter 9 was working fine with that video format.
    Who can help?
    Thanks
    StefanS

    Adobe Presenter 10.0.0 Build 196

    Do you have another program that can convert videos? Presenter's video conversion tool has always been a minimal application, and gives you little control over the settings and quality of the output.
    Video conversion tools were recently discussed here, and RDziuban ended up using Handbrake, which is free, to convert their videos to MP4. This remvoed the encoder in Presenter, and allows you to to have full control over the settings for the re-encoded video.

  • Wmv video files in libreoffice impress

    I am not able to view wmv video files embedded in a pptx presentation made in windows, when I open this pptx file in libreoffice impress in Arch. I have tried to search for it but there is mostly support for avi and mpeg files. Please help.

    No.

  • Cannot get .wmv videos to play in HTMLHelp output

    I successfully uploaded five .wmv videos and they display and play properly in the WebHelp output. However, I'm trying to generate the HTMLHelp output and the videos will not play. Any ideas?

    I'm having the same problem, too. I'm using RoboHelp 9. I'm trying to add a simple screen capture of selecting an item on a window.
    I created a simple .avi file using SnagIt.
    I tried to follow the instructions in the RH9 help at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/robohelp/robohtml/WS2D897D61-581A-447e-836F-50A19A2EFC12.html, but I didn't see anywhere to set options.
    When I select the topic that contains this .avi file, the video plays automatically. When I look at the underlying HTML, though, it says that autoplay is off:
    <object data="videos/MarkSelected.avi" classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"
                 codebase="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=6,4,7,1112"
                 type="application/x-oleobject" style="border: none;" width="672"
                 height="604">
    <param name="filename" value="videos/MarkSelected.avi"  />
    <param name="autoplay" value="false"  />
    <param name="autostart" value="false"  />
    <param name="ShowControls" value="1"  />
    <param name="controller" value="true"  />
    <param name="WindowlessVideo" value="0"  />
    </object>
    So I tried a different method that I found on the RoboHTML forum. I used Input > Help Controls > Shortcut and made a shortcut to wmplayer.exe with the filename as the argument. When I click that link, though, it brings up the library for Windows media player.
    I added it to baggage.
    Didn't help.
    Does anyone have any other suggestions? The output is HTMLHelp (.chm) and currently I'm working on my local machine, on my C drive.

  • How do I import a wmv video from my PC to my Iphone 5S via Itunes?

    How do I import a wmv video from my PC to my Iphone 5S via Itunes?

    iTunes and the iPhone do not support WMV files. You will first have to convert the video to an MPEG4 or H.264 format video.
    Handbrake is free and should be able to do this, see https://handbrake.fr

  • How to import wmv video tracks in Premiere Pro CC on mac?

    Hi,
    Is there a way to import wmv video files in premiere without converting them before?
    I'm aware, that exporting is another topic, i'm only intrested in importing.
    I only found the information, that AME is able to import WMVs after installing Windows Media Player for Mac (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4031104), but is this also possible in the same way for Premiere Pro?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Were you ever able to find a solution for this? I am working on a project that has some .WMV files and trying to import them in Premiere Pro CC on a Mac. Thanks!

  • Embedding a YouTube Video utilizing HTML Insert Crashes Muse Repeatedly

    Just today I have noticed when embedding a YouTube Video in Muse that it has begun crashing repeatedly. I cannot get the video to stay embedded to finish this project. Is there a bug or a work-around?
    Thank you.

    Please try using YouTube embed code with the "Enable privacy-enhanced mode" option checked. It appears this crash is being triggered by recent changes in how YouTube's embed code works. At least early evidence indicates turning the "Enable privacy-enhanced mode" option on when creating the embed code appears to change the behavior of the embed code enough to avoid triggering this crash within Muse.
    If you do try this, please report back to let us know whether or not setting this option enables you to avoid this crash. Thanks.

  • Problem playing some .wmv video clips in my C7..

    Hello dear friends;
    I just bought my new Nokia C7 mobile, everything is fantastic, i like this delightful device.. it has great many new features..  but i couldn't play some .wmv video clips.
    I'm just wondering if there is a good media player need to install in mobile for playing this kind of format video clips.
    thanks..

    I don't know if CorePlayer has released a version for the C7 but this worked very good.
    Another option is to connect the phone to PC and use Windows Media Center or WMP11 or later to SYNC the video to the C7 this should convert the video before tranferring and may solve the problem.
    Otherwise you may need to convert the video from WMV to MPEG-4 or other format that's supported by the C7.
    640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Import wmv video question

    hi
    Can anyone help. After I import wmv video into flash. Then
    select "stream from flash video streaming service". I export movie
    and create a swf file. Can the movie start from a pause instead of
    straight away play the flv file? If press the button play then play
    or else pause.
    thank

    the FLVPlayback component has an autoPlay property. Set this
    to false, and your movie will be paused on SWF load.

  • I embedded a quicktime video in keynote, but all I have is sound, no visual.  What am I missing?

    After embedding a quicktime video in Keynote, all I have is sound, no video.  What am I missing?

    Sorry, I understood you to say you had the whole CS6 suite, which includes Illustrator.
    As far as finding out what the files are, sometimes you can look at them in a text editor to figure this out. See below; the, Creator Tool line. Not every software package makes it this easy, though.

  • Top clipped when I import a wmv video.  Please Help.

    When I import a wmv video into premier elements 9 the top part of the video is clipped.  The video plays fine externally with windows player, and plays in premier but the top is clipped.  This happens for any video I try to import.  The video properties are as follows...798 w x 480 h, 25 frames/sec, 1858 kbps.  I definitely need help with this one, as I cannot even start a project.

    In case you are missing the Announcement, it should display
    Announcement: Windows Update Causes Display to Be Blacked Out
    Hide Details
    MicroSoft has issued an Update for Windows, that is causing problems with Displays. The following is from Talbot McInnis, who tracked down this problem, and offers a fix:
    "MS bulliten MS13-057.  Specifically, on XP kb2834904 and on windows 7 kb2803821 is causing a problem
    For us, it occurs when decoding WMV9 files.  Not all uses of WMV decoding are affected, but I confirmed that when connecting the WMV decode DLL to a sample grabber for RGB32 video, the frames arrive black on top, so that points directly to decoding internals of the WMV Decode dll.
    You can uninstall these windows updates to resolve your problem."
    There are several threads on the problem that this Update is causing on the PrE and PrPro Forums, so one can get more details. So far, there is not another fix from either MS, or Adobe.
    Also, see this Adobe KB Article: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/wmv-files-corrupted-import-or.h tml
    There have been many, many threads on the subject..lots of helpful hints on the matter of deleting the offending Windows Update kb. Major points that were offered include:
    a. for the present, set your Windows Updates so that you require notification for any downloading and installing of them.
    b. if you catch the offending Windows Update kb in Windows Updates Important Updates, then right click that kb and select Hide...that is supposed to block it from further activity.

  • Fast Forwarding  a WMV video

    Hi,
    I am reworking a project that initially had some quicktime
    videos in it. I have pause, play, stop, fastforward, and rewind
    button controls on the stage that control the sprite ( video) in
    frame 20 for instance.
    on mouseUp
    sprite (20).movieRate = 0
    end
    Intially I did the lingo on the buttons to control the
    movieRate which worked great for Quicktime video. However our
    company basically supports the Windows media player so I had to
    switch to using the WMV video. I have changed the code to work with
    this new format i,e.
    on mouseUp me
    sprite (20).stop()
    end
    Except, the client wants to be able to rewind and fastforward
    the video like they could with the Quicktime version. I could not
    figure out how to do that. The searches I've done don't tell me a
    whole lot.
    Can anyone help me with the code to make this possible or is
    it even possible?
    Thank you very much for any help you could give me.
    Kevin

    You should be able to get the WMV to playback back fast or
    slow, but probably not in reverse. The file format just isn't good
    for that.
    Personally I gave up on VTR style FWD & RWD a long time
    ago due to this kind of issue. You can still use the same buttons
    in your interface, but the video simply jumps fwd or back, usually
    in 10 sec increments

  • Flash or WMV video

    Hi experts,
    One question, couldn't find it through the search, but how can I embed a flash/wmv video files in the portal?
    We want to store those files in KM and we wont to select them through an iview. Can some one plz give me some pointers on this!!
    Thanks!

    Ramsaran,
    If you directly access a video file though URL iview then the file may open in a seperate window.
    You implement your requirement on this way too,
    Upload wmv file into portal. Create a hmtl which will embed the video file. Please your html accessible by portal. create an URL iview to access the html page.

  • Using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects - 6/23/14

    Very disappointed with this choice. I will definitely be seeking to uninstall this version and go back a version or two. Two many extra steps to export an mp4 now. And now we also have to wait longer for a mp4 to render and can't take advantage of the machine's hardware? You guys fighting mp4 as a standard, forcing us to an additional product, or what? I'll be sharing my extreme disappoint with this 'upgrade' with the rest of the developers at work and who just had it installed. I'm not seeing this being too popular opn social media either. Seems like you only did what was best for you.Thanks for showing us who's boss.

    Frank VA wrote:

    Not necessarily. You can render an intermediate codec with AE's render queue (thus using all of AE's power to render) and then drop that file into the Adobe Media Encoder.
    This was the workflow I've always used - even when AE could encode with MP4. Why? Well, because AE sucked at MP4 encoding. You couldn't even do multipass endoding with it!
    This is a useful workflow in a few ways:
    1. You have an archive-quality file to come back to in the future.
    2. You can use AE's full power to render.
    3. You can use AME's superior encoding capabilities.
    4. You can tweak your compression settings and try various encoding parameters to improve the quality while decreasing the bitrate of your product WITHOUT having to re-render the AE comp every time you try since you're working off of the intermediate file. I mean, imagine a comp with several 3d layers, depth of field, shadows from multiple lights, and 250,000 particles from Particular. What if you made an MP4 and then the client needed a smaller file size or the MP4 you made was too heavily compressed and you needed higher quality? I don't know about you, but I'd much rather only render that 18-hour monster once.
    This workflow actually saves time for many people.
    And, in any workflow, this produces a better product.
    Again, this is what I did even when AE could encode MP4's.
    Frank VA wrote:
    You guys fighting mp4 as a standard, forcing us to an additional product, or what?
    They aren't fighting MP4 as a standard, in fact, when Adobe folks pop in here and answer questions, that's often their recommendation for delivery codec.
    Frank VA wrote:

    Listen, I understand your frustration. Knocking out a quick compressed file from AE for client review is handy.
    However, maintaining the h.264 encoding in AE took up development time. There are only so many person-hours per week for the (relatively tiny) AE team to spend on building each version of AE.
    I never liked AE's h.264 encoding - AME has always done a superior job. Since we have AME to do our encoding, I would rather the AE team focus their effort on improving AE as a compositing and motion graphics tool rather than as an encoding tool.
    Again, I get the frustration. I can see where it feels like they are doing what's good for them and not us, but I think, in the long run, this way is better for us. Right now, the majority of the AE team is working on making AE faster to work with and faster to render. The sooner we get a relatively bug-free version of that, the better! (Especially for folks on Mac OSX Yosemite who can't RAM preview smoothly in any version of AE).
    And at least the After Effects team has been very transparent about things - for example, this blog post talks about their reasoning: using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects

  • I can't open a wmv. video sent to me via email.  I can on my laptop, but not my new ipad

    Why can't I open a wmv. video sent in an email?

    WMV or Windows Media Video is not a natively supported video format on an iPad.
    You need to download an App that can play that video format.
