  • Rename embedded fonts in a .pdf file

Is it is possible to rename the embedded fonts of a .pdf file?

You can safely removed the system times and helvetica.
    http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html
If you use iCal, Mail and a few other Apple programs that use badges on the dock icon you will get a substitute font on the icon, but having another helvetica will fix that. You need 1 Helvetica of any type or Photoshop will not launch.
The only fonts you NEED in OS X are Lucida Grand (used in menus), Last Resort, and Keyboard. The rest can be deleted. Apple says you have to keep Kana, but if you aren't working in any Asian languages you can remove it without system instability. To be safe and follow Apple's guidelines you can keep it.

  • Embedding Fonts Into A PDF

    Hi There,
I'm having trouble sending my files to the printers, my fonts is jumping...
How do i make sure that my fonts are embedded into my PDF file,
I'm using indesign cs5.5 Please can someone help me, I have distiller as well.
    Thank You
    Kind Regards

Can you check one of your problematic PDFs with Acrobat? Go to the Document Properties dialog and check the "Fonts" tab. That way you can verify if your fonts are embedded.
It's really straightforward: where Acrobat does *not* tell you a font is "(Embedded)" or "(Embedded subset)", that font is missing.
If you find you are creating files without embedding all fonts, you need to review your workflow. As I said above, you might have switched off InDesign's warnings for this.
Bear in mind it's also possible your PDFs are fine and it's your printer that needs to update.

  • Embedding Postscript into a pdf file

I've been looking for a while for a solution to a problem I have. I want to be able to embed postscript code into pdf file. Is it possible to do this within acrobat or even some other solution?
    Thanks!

By "embed PostScript code", do you mean add a .ps file as an attachment?
You can do this with the Doc.importDataObject() method.

  • Embedding extended XMP metadata into a PDF file

    Hello.
I am preparing a thesis for submission into our library repository. They keep some additional information about the paper in a separate XML file which looks like: http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/ethos-oai/2.0/uketd.xml
The metadata can be then easily harvested by other libraries etc.
Because the papers are downloadable and can freely circulate over the Internet I would like to also include the metadata into the PDF itself.
I've managed to extend the PDFX (MiKTeX) package such that it writes custom metadata in addition to the default fields (Author, Title, Subject, Keywords) into the PDF.
The problem is that the library metadata (see above) makes use of XSI schema which is apparently not compatible with RDF format of XMP.
Is there a way to get such rich metadata sets into a PDF file in a portable and accessible (thinking about search engines) way or should I stick with plain Simple Dublin Core?
    Thanks for recommendations.

  • Cannot Embed font into InDesign PDF

I am on ID CS5 Win7 and when exporting to PDF smallest file size get this message. I bought the font form Comicraft and used it before In Ilustrator without probolem, but this is my first time using the font in InDesign.
Now I am just trying to send a pdf for client review, and can probably find a way to bitmap the pages font. My main concern will be how can I make a pdf-X for final printing?

    Mike Gondek2 wrote:
Comicraft replied back sayng that their fonts can be embedded. I believe my problem is that I converted the font to PC and Fontlab turned that option on by default for a .ttf font. Unfortunately looking into their liscening agreements I cannot convert their fonts to another platform, so will have to convert this ID file over to mac and work on my slower older mac system to  finish off this client approved job.
I was surprised  to find out that Comicraft allows
Once a design is approved for release I need to send this to a printer to print.
    Can I?
Send a copy of a font to a printer only so they can image the file? This is what most all printers request, only very few accept  PDF-X.
Embed the font into a PDF, and send the PDF?
Outline the font and send this legally (hate to do this cause file size gets so large, and occasionally I  have them do small type changes).
RESPONSE: Any of those options are fine. If you send the fonts, please remind them to delete them when the job is finished.
    thanks!
This probably differs per vendor, but wanted to share what I found out.
That's seems in direct contradiction to the information on the FAQ page.  I did see on the site that they would sell you a version for the new platform for 20% of your original cost -- I'd opt to get an OpenType version.

  • How do i convert a word file into a pdf file?

How do I convert a word document into a .pdf file?

    Hi wertheca,
If you have Acrobat, (full version), you can convert a file to PDF by choosing File > Create > PDF from File. Then you choose your Word document, and click Open to convert the file to PDF.
If you don't have Acrobat, you can use an Acrobat online services subscription to convert almost any format of file to a PDF with just a click or two. For more information, see Acrobat Plus, PDF Pack, Export PDF & More | Acrobat Document Solutions
    I hope this helps.

There is a similar post just a few away from yours. I will suggest what I would try. Open your job settings file (press or print preferred to get all fonts) and then select the properties and the font tab. At your font to the always embed list and you will likely need to uncheck the subset box. Then save your job settings (give it a name that is meaningful to you, you can not use the settings file you started with as they are read only and I do not recommend changing that). Maybe that will do the job. Of course that is for the creation of the PDF, I forgot you were talking about a form. You might check the form field properties, but I suspect you have already tried that. Guess I don't play with forms enough. Others may be by to answer.

  • How do I scan multiple pages into one pdf file using the PIXMA MG7520 on Windows 8.0? Please help!

I recently received a PIXMA MG7520 for a gift.  It works great with my lenovo laptop/tablet running on Windos 8.0.  The one drawback to the HP all-in-one that it replaced is it does not have an ADF.  That being said, there must be some way to scan multiple pages into one pdf file.  I need help figuring thing out.  Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi mdtolbert54,
There is a program that comes with the printer called the IJ Scan Utility that can assist you with scanning multiple pages into a single PDF document.  To do this, please follow these steps:
    1. On your keyboard, press the Windows key.
    2. Start typing IJ SCAN UTILITY. The search window opens as you type. Once the IJ SCAN UTILITY is displayed, please select and open it.
    3. In the Canon IJ Scan Utility window that opens, click SETTINGS.... in the bottom right of the window. The Settings dialog box appears.
    4. Click the DOCUMENT SCAN option on the left pane of the window.
    5. In the SAVE SETTINGS section of the window, you will select the save format and location of the document you are about to scan.
a.) In the FILE NAME field, specify the name you would like to give the file. By default the filename will begin with IMG; you can remove IMG and change it to whatever you would like to name the file.
b.) In the DATA FORMAT field, use the drop-down arrow to select the PDF (Multiple Pages) option.
c.) In the SAVE IN field, please navigate to the area where you would like the file to be saved once it is scanned in. By default, the file will be saved in the MY DOCUMENTS folder.
    6. Once all settings have been selected, click the OK button at the bottom of the window to save the changes. The IJ Scan Utility main screen appears.
    7. Click the DOCUMENT button. Scanning starts. Click the CANCEL button to cancel scanning if needed. Scanned items are saved in previously selected folder location specified in the SETTINGS... window.
If you find that you need advanced scanning options such as adjusting resolution, brightness, contrast, saturation, color balance, etc. in addition to the options selected above, please click on the SCANGEAR button on the IJ Scan Utility Main screen, then adjust the items as necessary.
Once the items above are set for document scanning, in the future, you will only need to launch the IJ Scan Utility, then press the DOCUMENT button to perform the scan (unless you want to make changes to the settings).
    Hope this helps!

  • How to embed font into generated PDF?

    Hi,
I have an issue with cyrillic fonts in PDF-file, generated from smartform using the following mechanism:
    1. Run FM for smartform with ==> getotf = 'X'
    2. Perform CONVERT_OTF retrieving result into a XSTRING.
    3. Converting xstring content into a table using "cl_document_bcs=>xstring_to_solix).
    4. Creating mail to an external internet user with attached pdf ==> using "cl_document_bcs=>create_document..."
Smartform contains cyrillic content, based on HELVCYR (Helvetica cyrillic) font. Application server is based on Windows.
Everything worked well (for months!) for allmost all of the clients of our customer. Of course, some of clients have different OS-es (such as Linux, Mac OS, etc.), and then the problem starts - they doens't view properly the cyrillic content. English content (even numbers, etc.) are properly displayed. We found what fonts are used in the PDF, but my questions are:
    1. Is it possible to embed the font into generated PDF-content?
    2. If no, is it possible to generate PDF-content non-selectable (i.e. in some image mode) ?
If yes, how to do this?
Or is there any other way to workarround this issue - to be able to display mail with attached PDF-content with cyrillic on different OS-es? It would be better if it is possible without calling external converter...
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ivaylo Mutafchiev

    Hello Ivaylo Mutafchiev,
There is no way we can control the fonts in the created PDF / while creating the PDF using the class cl_document_bcs in your PDF creation logic.
You can try some other approach of creating PDF from the Smartforms OTF stream data .
Try using the follosing FM for the PDF creation and sending email:
    CONVERT_OTF_2_PDF
    CONVERT_OTF_AND_MAIL
    SO_OBJECT_SEND
CONVERT_OTF_AND_MAIL_NEW (Try this but this FM still uses  the class that you are using currently. But give it a try and see the results)
    Hope this answers your question.
    Thanks,
    Greetson

  • I can't add chinese font into a pdf

I have scanned a book and OCR it into an PDF file. I want do some translation work that change the English to Chinese. I only use the Touchup tool, It's so hard to do, I have to right-click-properties-change the font to Simsun(It's the only Chinese font I can find in the font list), and when I type one word, the font set back to the original Arial, I can't do it in this way
Anyone have a good way to help me? I'll really appreciate your help

You don't understand our thrust. PDF files are really not meant for
editing! Only the most minor of changes can be made and even if you can
change a single letter, you cannot expect the text on the page to follow
its previous course. It might, but all to often it will not. I have
seen changing one letter ruin several lines of text! It is always,
always, ALWAYS better to create the document anew rather than try any
serious editing. Even with minor editing it is better to recreate the
    document if possible.

  • Getting Canon 4770 to scan multipages into a PDF file while using the document feeder

    Hi All
I'm new to this forum.  So if I break any rules with my questions below, kindly forgive me.
But my questions are about my Canon MF4770 printer.
    1.  Why can't I used the document feeder to scan multiple pages into one PDF file?
    2.  Why do I have to constantly select the remote scanner option when the printer is connected to my computer?
Any help I can get will be very appreciated.
    Starlene

Hi Starlene and welcome to the Canon forum,
The ability to scan multi-page documents can depend on your operating system and version, and if the scanning software being used supports the feature.  However, the MF Toolbox application that accompanies your laser product offers this option when scanning via a USB connection to your computer.
For example, if you are using Windows, below are the steps that would be performed:
    1.  Place documents.
Note: Up to 35 documents can be loaded in the feeder.  Be sure to fan the stack, place it face up, and align the document guides to the width of document.
    2. Press [SCAN].
    3. Press [^] or [v] to highlight <Remote Scanner>, and then press [OK].
The machine is now waiting to be scanned.
    4. Double-click the [Canon MF Toolbox 4.9] icon on the desktop.
    The MF Toolbox starts.
    5. Click [PDF].
Select [PDF (Multiple Pages)] in [Save as Type].
    7. Specify the required settings as needed and click [PDF Settings].
The [PDF Settings] dialog box appears.
    8. Specify the required settings as needed and click [OK]:
[Create Searchable PDF] Converts the characters in the document to text data and makes the PDF document searchable with keywords.
[Text Language] Select the language of the text to be scanned. The characters may be recognized more accurately if you select [English] from the drop-down list and set [Image Quality] to [300 dpi] or higher in [Scanner Settings].
[PDF Compression] Select [High] for color images such as photos or illustrations to reduce file sizes.
    9. Click [Start].
    Note:
A folder with the scanning date will be created in the [MY PICTURES] folder in the [MY DOCUMENTS] folder, and your document will be saved in this folder. If there is no [MY PICTURES] folder, the folder with the scanning date will be created in the [MY DOCUMENTS] folder and your document saved in this folder.
For text documents or black-and-white documents, it is recommended you select either [BLACK and WHITE] or [GRAYSCALE] in [SCAN MODE].
If making a Multiple PDF with color documents ([IMAGE QUALITY] set to [300 dpi]), it is recommended that the PDF have fewer than 20 pages.
The MF toolbox can be loaded from your software CD or downloaded here from the "Drivers & Software" tab on the Canon USA website.
I can understand some confusion on having to select "Remote Scanner" when you have a direct computer connection to your product.  The reason for this is that first, the "Remote Scanner" mode refers to seeing your computer as a stand alone, or remote, device; however, the "Computer" scanning mode option allows you to select which computer will be performing a scan when doing so over a network (Max: up to 10 computers).
Another reason for having to select the scan mode is that the selection is not programmed but selected based on the type of scan you will be performing at the time.
If this does not answer your questions or we can offer further assistance, please feel free to Contact Us.
