Embedding Multimedia in an eBook

Adobe claims - and shows, that you can run audio and video within a window in an eBook.  I can place mp3 and mp4 files in a frame
but they do not show up in the epub file when run on my iPad, or  Adobe Digital Editions.  How does one impliment this multimedia
feature ????

I have already tried this and this is the error I get :
Sending failed; nested exception is: javax.mail.MessagingException: IOException while sending message; nested exception is: javax.activation.UnsupportedDataTypeException: no object DCH for MIME type text/html

  • Reader 9.1 on Mac / embedded multimedia / uninstall

I installed Acrobat Reader 9.1 on my Mac. I have some pdf files which contain a lot of multimedia (mostly flash) in them. Unfortunately embedded multimedia is displayed only on windows enviroment as far as I understand. If not, why reader doesn't display the flash animations in my pdf files?
Because of this problem, I wanted to uninstall reader but couldn't find a way to do this. In the release notes, it says "to uninstall double click the Acrobat Uninstaller file in Adobe folder". I checked the /Applications/Adobe folder and there is no "Acrobat Uninstaller" file there. How can I uninstall Acrobat Reader (Multi Language) on Mac OS X 10.5.1?
    Thanks in advance,

I was looking at this problem because I was trying to help someone on www.superuser.com (its a question and answer site), and so I took the time to find the instructions and cross post them from here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408814.html
Then someone comes back to me and says: it's wrong. So I confirm it's wrong. I go to that page, create an Adobe account, comment on the page, and days later I get a note that says:
    Hi Ben Chuang,

So, I followed the link here, and then found this thread. What next?

  • DE and PDF with embedded multimedia

DE crashes on XP when trying to access sounds and multimedia embedded in a PDF.
I am testing PDFs with ACS DRM in DE and looks like there are major problems with multimedia. Wave files does not play and make the system crash. Same with various video formats that were working fine with Adobe Reader 7. Swf support seems to work fine though.
Before converting all sounds and videos to swf I would like to know if there's a way to fix that!
    thanks

WAV files are not presently supported but they of course shouldn't crash. We have fixed several bugs in this area for 1.5

  • Play embedded multimedia files in PDF's with Preview?

I receive a newsletter that sometimes embeds video clips or audio clips into the PDF. I can play the embedded files correctly if I use the free Adobe Reader but I want to know if Preview can play these files also?
    Thanks!

That would be the version I have installed. Did a bit more investigating... the "get info" for the PDF files says "Content Creator: Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2". They are opening as forms. I'm assuming the fact that they are PDF forms has something to do with why Preview & Mail won't display them. Still trying to search for a fix.

  • Utilizing Multimedia Links - Links to Media Using Adobe Acrobat 9

Embedding multimedia such as videos makes PDFs too large to e-mail and large to store, and each distributed PDF has to contain the video instead of the video residing in just a single location. I wanted to know whether one can embed links in the PDF to a free website such as the Acrobat.com website to store the actual video file on this site and have PDFs access the video(s)? I was thinking that since Acrobat.com allows a certain limit of storage, this seemed like a slick way to include video without dealing with large PDF sizes. I saw this done in several of the example PDFs on Adobe's website; but all the linked sites were other than Acrobat.com.
I checked the Acrobat.com forum and it appears that my request is not possible because video files are restricted and can not be uploaded and shared on the Acrobat website. Their list of restricted video formats include MOV, WMV, FLV, XVID, DIVX, and RETG. Apparently Acrobat.com once allowed SWF format; but it was blocked because of security concerns.
Is there a location for a non-professional to safely store multimedia files such as videos where the website and be linked to a PDF and the PDF execute the multivideo link, like in the examples shown for Abobe Acrobat 9?
Aside from a place to store files and link to them, what video formats work best? I have a SONY video camcorder (MPG format) and want to just put several files on a website and then produce PDFs with the links to access these files to play within the PDFs. Are there some tips located somewhere on how best to link videos to a website that hosts the videos?
    Thanks in advance,

After trying out various options suggested in this forum, I have found another solution for Word TOC links in PDF.
    My environment is as follows:
    Windows Vista
    Acrobat 9.0
    Word 2007
    Solution:
    Open the Word document.
Place the mouse cursor at the beginning of the TOC field.
Right-click and choose Edit Field from the shortcut menu.
Click Table of Contents to open the Table of Contents dialog.
Select the Show page numbers checkbox.
Select the Use hyperlinks instead of page numbers checkbox.
Note: While the preview on the dialog removes the page numbers, they are not removed from your TOC page.
    Click OK.
In the Word document, hover your mouse over a TOC entry. You will notice that the entire string (and not just the page number) is now hyperlinked.
Generate the PDF and verify if the TOC links work.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello JKWindley,
    Thanks for your posting
We don’t have a way to play back the video formats, we
use to allow SWF playback but it was blocked because of security
    concerns.
We do have a format black list, MP3, AAC, MOV, RAR, WMV, OGG,
FLV, XVID, DIVX, TTF, DFONT, OTF, TGZ, 7Z, SIT, EXE, DLL, JAR, WAR,
CAB, JS, VB, BAT, CHM, CMD, COM, CPL, CRT, HLP, HTA, INF, INS, ISP,
JSE, LNK, MDB, MS, PCD, PIF, RETG, SCR, SCT, SHS, VB, WS, SH, CSH,
TCSH, KSH, BASH, ZSH, RM, DAT, AVI, MPG, WAV, CDA, VY1, WMA
You will be able to upload documents other than these
    formats.
Uploaded docs can be downloaded, and a preview will be
generated if we are able to do so.
As for best practice for working within the multimedia pdf
files...I would probably suggest asking the same question to the
Acrobat forum group, and see where their suggestions lead you,
since these forums are specific to Acrobat.com.

  • Preview or Adobe Reader

I've been using Preview for pdf viewing and printing, as well as right clicking on pdfs in Safari to choose "Open in Preview".
But are there advantages to using Adobe Reader? And is Adobe Reader actually a universal binary now, with a plugin for Safari?
    Mark

Adobe Reader is not a Universal program as of yet.
    Adobe Reader 7.0.7 system requirements:
    Macintosh
    PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    Mac OS X v10.2.8, 10.3, or 10.4
    128MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
Up to 110MB of available hard-disk space
Safari 1.2.2 browser supported for Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
You can get this program at the following site:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/107
This new version of the familiar Adobe Acrobat Reader provides a host of rich features that enable you to:
Submit Adobe PDF forms that are created with fillable form fields in such applications as Adobe Acrobat Professional and Adobe Form Designer
Play back a variety of embedded multimedia content, such as QuickTime and MP3 files
    Read and organize high-fidelity eBooks
Activate search and accessibility capabilities built into your PDF files
Display Adobe Photoshop? Album slide shows and electronic cards and export images for online photo processing (online photo services vary regionally)
    What's new in this version:
Support for new 3D content: Reader 7.0.7 allows you to view, interact with, annotate, and measure 3D content embedded in PDF documents created with Adobe Acrobat 3D.
Form improvements: Static and dynamic PDF forms created or enabled by Adobe LiveCycle products now work more efficiently.
So it really depends on what you need it for. For the average person who just wants to view, print or save file in the PDF format Preview is the way to go.
The best thing to is to go ahead and download the Adobe reader and try it out. I am sure it will be better once a Universal version is out, but that might be awhile.

  • Printing book-style in preview or adobe acrobat

I have a pdf document that i want to print in a book-style. I want to print two pages per sheet horisontally, and have it like a book, so, for example, the first page and the last page are on one side of a sheet, the second page and the second last page are on the other side of the same sheet, and so forth, so that when it's all printed up, i can fold it over, staple it, and it's a book. Can someone tell me how this can be done in acrobat professional or preview?

    Hi @TheFirehawk ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a superb  place to find answers and ideas!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I understand that you have purchased a HP stream 14 amd quad core laptop and you are don't have enough space to  uninstall programs.  You stated you have a 32 GB SSD, did you mean a 32 GB eMMC? ( Embedded multimedia card)
When I checked the  HP Stream Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide   and looked at the computer components, a SSD is not listed.
You will need to free up some space to be able to  uninstall a program.
You do have a SD slot where you can add additional storage where you could move some files to free up space.
Here is a link to HP PCs - Improving System Performance without Adding Memory (Windows 8) that will help you to free up some space.  If you empty the recycle bin, delete the temp files and your browsing history it should free up some space.  The preceding document will assist you with that process.  If you require additional help please provide your exact model.

Hi. I use Adobe Acrobat XI pro to make a PDF ebook embedded with audio. It works really well on my computer-I can read the book and hear the auto play mp3. The problem is, when I send it to my customers, they have difficulty hearing the audio. A few of them say they have Flash player on their PC and somehow they still can't hear, some say their Google Chrome browser tells them they've already got one flash player while they try to download one. For me, I had to download two versions of Flash player to be able to access to the audio. I don't know what the problem is, is it because it's the latest version of Adobe Acrobat XI pro that people with older version of Adobe reader or flash player can't open it properly? Or is it something else? How can I make sure every customer with different system can access to my books? Hope to hear from you ASAP! Thank you very much.

And how are the customers accessing the PDFs?
    What devices are they using?
What program or apps with versions are they using?
I this age of other then PDF eBooks formats and reader program and apss for computers and mobile devices for these formats I would look at creating the books in one or more of the eBook formats.
Google Chrome and FireFox both have their own version of a PDF reader plug-in and they are well known to be less capable than Adobe Reader. It is possible to configure these products to use Adobe Reader.

  • Database that can automatically update ebooks w/embedded flash

Hi I have a client who thinks it's possible to set up a database that will automatically update ebooks/pdf files with embedded flash so that manual translation between languages (e.g. english/norwegian/german/russian) can be avoided.  I'm trying to explain that translation is still a manual job, but perhaps there is a way?  Any thoughts?  Don't have a programming background, so any advice appreciated.  Tried to explain that setting up advanced databases on the web is in anycase an expensive proposition, they've only got around 100k to play with...any ballpark figures for mysql or similar with translation?  For a webcourse, with around 200 webpages...haven't actually seen or heard of it done myself, and have let them know it will be some 6-8 zeroes bet left to e.g. Cisco et al.
Regards...would be helpful if you could come with some $/£ figures to let them know they're completely in left field...never heard of a database that could optimize pdf/ebooks on the fly between languages.

Computer-aided translation isn't up to the task your client envisions.

  • Can't download multimedia embedded in text messages

    Hi,
I have a problem where I can't load multimedia embedded in text messages when I'm at home.  I'll get the text message, say with message size 30kb.  The download button will sit there even though I've set it up to download automatically.  I push the button, the blue circle spins for a while and quits.  I try over and over, no luck.  Then there will be an error message that says message expired or not available.
I can't confirm it only happens at home but it seems to be that way.  I do have a Verizon network extender at home.   Google says that these messages only come if WIFI is off and uses regular data.  Maybe my 3g data is altered somehow by the fact that my 3g signal is 'boosted' by my 'home extender' icon that I see when I'm home.  I can't get 4g at home (Verizon tells me just walk 300 feet down the road where they have great signal, yeah, right!!)
It is crazy to have to turn wifi off to get text messages at home and I can't believe that Multimedia messages would be blocked for the people who have network extenders.
This is the stock messaging program (icon with tan background and white conversation icon in middle with 3 horizontal lines in the white callout diagram).
    Ideas?

Network extenders used to be a great idea but most phones now try to lock to the 4G signal and use the extender for voice only.  It is definitely a possibility that the ext is contributing to the issue.  The G2 and G3, even with mobile data off, still use data to download MMS.  I know my G2 will download an MMS with mobile data turned off because the data is still actually enabled.  Hard to explain, but data is always on unless in airplane mode.  This allows MMS but doesnt allow other forms of data.

  • Need help with publishing multimedia ebook.

I'm about to publish a multimedia ebook that I would like to be available on laptops as well as multiple devices, iPads, tablets, etc.  I like the interactivity of the iAuthor platform but then only those with iPads can read it?  I need it to be available to a wider audience and available in different online stores. Should I publish in InDesign or iAuthor.  Do I publish as a ebook or as an App.  Anyone here involved in multimedia publishing.  Very confusing.

If you try to 'publish' as an app, and you use the words ebook or just book, the review teams are likely to reject and tell you to do a book instead, so be prepared to not call it any type of book and to deliver something that showcases the device and iOS as best as you can if you take that route...it's non-trivial, mostly, so be prepared to learn any skills you may not have yet need going in.
Look at the book 'Yellow Submarine' for what I consider a good example of a standard epub w/m'media. it can be done, but as noted, iBA is iPad only, so....good luck.

  • Embedding flash files for an ebook

    Hello,
I would like to embed 50 one minute flash videos into a 100 page ebook. Each video is about 5MB. I was told I should use Acrobat 9 to do this. Does this mean the ebook will be more than 250MB (50 x 5MB) or is there a way to compress the entire ebook?
