Embedding Sound : The Sound File Control

Newb here. Please bear with me.
I am embedding sound files into an e-book, floating controls every 15 minutes reading time. The use may read and listen and the same time.
It looks like I do not have much to chose concerning the sound player controls: the start/stop, beginning/end, and the position slider are really small, there are gray bars above and below, and everithing is sorrounded by a thick black border even though I select "no border" in the appearence option.
Please advise. Thank you very much.

  • How do I get a handle on embedded sound files?

From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files.  I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline.  I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves.  I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest.  How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?
This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me.  I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root.  I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame.  But it isn't, it's in an external classfile.  I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it.  I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file.  I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.
I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created.  So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers.  I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one.  Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.
If this seems redundant, it probably is.  I want to paint the best picture I know how so I can get detailed feedback.  Please, if you have questions ask them so we can clarify, and get this resolved!  Thanks for reading!

    lol.
ok, it can be done.  keep working on it.

  • Acrobat Pro: Making timecode visible in embedded sound files?

Hello.  I teach music history courses.  For copyright purposes (i.e., to prevent music theft), I am embedding sound files in PDFs for student use.  Some of my commentaries have timing cues (e.g., Horns enter at 3'38"), but I've not found a way to make the timecode visible to the students.
Time codes are, of course, a standard feature on most music players (iTunes, Quicktime, WMP, etc.), as well as on many Flash players.  It seems reasonable that the media player in Acrobat should have a similar feature, even if disabled by default.  But if it does, I have been unable to locate or enable it.  Does such a feature exist on Acrobat?
If not, does anyone have a recommendation for a possible alternative?  Thanks.

You do know that as of Acrobat 9.0 you are able to include Flash Movies in PDFs. Now as to how that works I couldn't tell you as I haven't used Flash much even though I have it as part of Studio 8.

  • In the ReportDocument.Load method it tries to connect using the using the connection information embedded in the Report File

    Post Author: bhaveshbusa
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
In the ReportDocument.Load method it tries to connect using the using the connection information embedded in the Report File. When the application calls ReportDocument.Load(reportFileName). This
tries to connect to the database using the connection information embedded in
the "reportFileName". This was only realised on checking the ODBC Trace
Log. The connection itself is not a problem. The problem is that the embedded
connection information is related to OLD production system. And failed
    connections had raised some concerns.
    Note: I am using
SetDataSource to populate the data for the report. So I don't need the
    connection.
    Is there any way I
    can disable this auto-connect?
    Thanks and
    regards,

I need a help in answering one of the issue encountered last week.
I have created a database link and tried to access the information from a table using the program written in another language. The password provided was incorrect for that user while creating database link. So we expected that, while retrieving the data, Database connection has to be errored out as password provided is incorrrect.
But unfortunately, user account was locked out. When i checked with DBAs they mentioned that it tries to connect 16 ports with in a min of time.we were shocked as it STOPS another scheduled jobs with that user. and affects production badly.
As per the program, it has to connect only one time and yesterday we tried to execute the program in DBAs observation and it errored out as expected. Didn't tried for multiple ports.
Now the question is, WHY the database connection established 16 times last week and caused user account locked. DBAs are unable to answer it. Any EXPERTs opinion on this would greatly appreciated.
I have verified managing ports in oracle documentation, it was mentioned that if one port is busy it will try to connect to another port in the range of ports mentioned during the installtion. DBAs verified ports related file and it was blank. and they are not agreeing with this reason. Please HELP me in finding the correct REASON for this.
is it a NETWORK issue or issue with DATABASE SERVER only?
    Thanks

  • Can the XML style sheet be embedded in the report file?

My customer would like to be able to share test reports with several locations. The problem is that sending just the XML report file is not enough. The report file points to a style sheet that must exist at the specified path on the destination PC. It creates problems when one simply wants to email over a test report. I have customized the style sheet slightly to make things easier to read. So, can I embed my custom style sheet in each report file?

    Hi,
The XML style sheet should not be embedded into the report file. Since XML would represent raw data, you would not include information on how to interpret it. However, there is a way for you to easily reference your style sheet, even when it is on another computer.
    1) Go to Configure >> Report Options in TestStand, and change the style sheet file to your style sheet.
    2) Uncheck the "Store Absolute File Path" box.
    3) Make sure the style sheet is in the same folder as your report.
You can view this on any computer, and now a relative path is now being used to reference the file.

  • Problems Embedding Sound Files

I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro 8 to X, not realizing how different they are. In 8, I would open a link to a sound file and then click on the box that allowed me to embed it in the document. I could have the field borders invisible so that when the hand passed over a text that was linked to sound, it changed to the pointing finger and clicking started the sound.
Now it seems I can't do that any longer. I watched the tutorial and it looks like I have to have something that's visible. While I know that you can set it so the sound file marker won't print, it's still ugly and carries no identification, unless I add a text field and then have others who use the file learn to exclude both the "comment" and the image of the sound file.
What I would like to do at the minimum is to be able to type in an identifier for the sound file which is part of the image itself, or else make the image of the sound file transparent, so that the relevant text already present would show through, like it did in Acrobat 8.
Does anyone know if this is possible any longer? I miss the old way.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've run into similar problems and haven't found a satisfactory solution with sound files. Others have reported this problem as well.
You might experiment in turning sound files into movies, and making your text label into the first frame of the movie (the "movie poster"). The best movie formats for Acrobat 9 and Acrobat X are Flash formats—F4V and FLV. If you have a copy of InDesign CS5, it's easier to use the Media panel to place and manipulate the Flash movies.

  • I edited RAW files as DNG's and need the xmp files- are they embedded in the DNG files?

I was editing for someone else and the like the xmp files to see the RAW adjustments- I edited them as DNG because that is how I'm used to doing it. Now I know but they want me to supply the xmp files which did not write. Is there a wat to do this or do I need to re edit them as RAW's?

DNG files don't have XMP sidecar files. Everything is written to the header of the DNG. And as far as Lightroom goes, It will be necessary for you to specifically write the data to XMP files. Otherwise the adjustments will only be stored in the catalog.

  • I have added some sound files to my daughter's website (using Homestead as host). Sound files control bar doesn't show up right (but it does in IE). Any ideas?

In Firefox the control bar is gray and the play button kind of fades into the bar. In IE, it looks like it is suppose to - dark grey/black control bar with a big blue circle (on the left) with a bright white arrow inside of it (making it obvious as to how to play the mp3).

That interface is entirely based on what plugin is being used. For IE, it looks like Windows Media Player, and in your Firefox screenshot, it looks like the QuickTime plugin is being used.
Attached is what it looks like for me (Firefox on Mac). And it looks that way in Safari as well.
As a user, you could stop Quicktime from being used for ''audio/mpeg'' files, using the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/quicktime-plugin-play-audio-and-video#w_embedded-media
As a web-developer, if you want to control the media player interface, it might be better to convert your site to HTML5, then use the <audio> tag which doesn't require any plugin. For more info, read https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Using_HTML5_audio_and_video
You should probably ask in a web-developers forum.

  • Is there a way to add album art without it being embedded in the MP3 file?

The reason for my question is that I don't have the color display on my 20gb iPod, so I don't want to waste space by adding album art to the mp3/aac file. But, it'd be cool to have the art within iTunes on my computer.
I just read in another thread that the way iTunes 7 takes care of the album art does not actually attach it to the track. Is this true?

    There is not.
Even with the high res art from the iTune Store, I believe the file size increase is less than 2%, at least for my library.

  • Why can't I hear the sound files in Acrobat Reader on the iPad?

I have created on my main computer pdf files with embedded sound files. When I transfer them into the Adobe Reader on the iPad, the icons are there, but there is no sound. The only option Acrobat Pro XI has is to accept AIFF files. Whereas the guide for Adobe Reader on iPad says that it won't accept AIFF files, only some others, e.g., mp3.
    Reuven

    Thanx, Dave.
This is my Catch 22. Originally, my files were in mp3 format. But Acrobat Pro XI recognizes only AIFF files. So I had to convert my files to AIFF, and as such they work marvelously on my main computer (iMac). The issue at stake is, how can I convince Acrobat Pro XI to recognize and open mp3 files? Indeed, the promotion bla-bla says that Acrobat Pro XI can handle mp3 files, but I could find nowhere instructions how to do this. The pop-up menu in the sound tool window gives only show AIFF files. All the rest are dim.

  • Where to embed the Sound File, which will be accessible everywhere?

    Hello Again
Im here with a stupid question.
I have an application which has a component.
    Both have Buttons.
Where should i embed the sound file which will be accessible
    in both places?
second question is about embeding sound files in css. I know
how to embed in <mx:script> tag, but couldnt find an example
    about css!
    Thanks in advance.

Well best practice as to coding may influenced by the
    architecture in this case.
It may be expedient if this sound file is a one time use and
will only be in a component, to put it there and leave it.
If it may be used by multiple components, then you could
consider passing it as a var to each. However your component then
is limited because it cannot be contained in a new component
without the new component also exposing this variable to get the
data down to its children. Thus the problem with passing data down
a composition pattern. Add to that the need to get another variable
to a component that is now deep in a composition pattern.
So as I had mentioned a model containing this data might be a
best practice in a MVC architecture.
So I would say more information would be required for me to
make a judgment as to best practice.

  • Damsel In Distress: Embedding Sound Clips in Fillable Forms

I embedded sounds (WAV files) in my professional 7.0 pdf with both the sound tool and the button tool. I also customized these with my own icon (JPG and PNG images). PROBLEM: once I open my pdf as a fillable form to add comment boxes, all the sound clips disappear, both icons and sounds. QUESTION: how can I embed sounds in my fillable forms? Thank you!

Thank you, but without LiveCycle Designer where does Acrobat allow me to create a fillable form that my user can submit data back to me via email. Again, I am embedding my sound files in Acrobat, but once I select the Advance Menu|Forms|Make Form Fillable in Adobe Designer, it automatically opens LiveCycle Designer and my embedded sound files disappear. Any other suggestions are welcomed!

  • Web Page Sound File Question

I built a web page years ago with an embedded sound file (.au) which would play when a photo was clicked. The sound would play while the page remained visible. Now when I launch the sound, QuickTime opens a new window with a player interface.
    What has changed?
I'm using Netscape 7.2, but the same thing happens in Safari.
Internet Explorer still works the way it used to with a small QuickTime player bar appearing apart from the Browser.
    Here's the link: http://www.margnat.com/chevette.html
Just click on the picture of the car.

Your problem is that you merely provided a link to the audio file; you didn't embed it in the page at all. The problem is that different browsers on different platforms with different audio players installed handle sound files in different ways. Some browsers will play the sound in the background, some will open a new page and play in a browser plug-in...as a page designer you really have no idea what is going to happen.
For that reason, when I have opted to embed audio in a web page, I usually put the audio file into a QuickTime wrapper so that I can use the QuickTime player plug-in. Here are two pages where I've supplied embedded audio--
    http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2004/caml01.html
    ...and...
    http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2006/ussfoma01.htm l
Either way, there is a QuickTime play button embedded on the page. It isn't the most efficient way to deliver audio, nor is it the most platform-agnostic, as it insures that QuickTime will play the clip regardless of the user's preference. But it has the advantage of being consistent: it will ALWAYS play in QuickTime on any browser that supports it.

  • Problems with captions in the exported file

I export my sequence as a quicktime file and the captions should be embedded in the export file. But the exported quicktime file doesn't show the captions. Who can help?

Exactly what version of Premiere are you running?
What type of captions? CEA-608? CEA-708? Teletext?
When the sequence is loaded in the Timeline, can you see the captions in the Program Monitor?
When you say "captions should be embedded in the export file," I assume that means that on the Captions tab in the Export Settings dialog you set Export Options to "Embed in Output File." Please confirm.
How are you checking for captions in the exported clips? What player? Have you enabled caption display in it?

I'm pretty sure that sound files must be embedded.
