permission levels given to AIR applications, will it become
possible to embed video playback codecs in an application?

How to embed and play mp4 video in HTML AIR application?

Adobe Air HTML / JS application compiled from SDK command line. I am not using flash pro or flash builder to create the application.
I was using dreamweaver but the dw air plugin seems to have stopped being developed so I switched to using the command line tools.
I am creating desktop air application that has embedded mp3 audio and also I want to embed mp4 video.
Using jQuery and the AIR js plugin I am able to play audio via buttons hooked up via jQuery and the AIR js plugin from the SDK.
What I am doing is creating proofs for clients in AIR and sending link to the client to download the application. I embed the media because I do not want to place them on a website where it could possibly be seen by non-clients and get picked up in the SE's.
I am finding it hard to understand the AIR process for playing video. I read that it is the same procedure as audio but it does not work.
If it was hosted on youtube or somewhere embedding the web player would be simple, just copy paste some code and it works. When actually embedding the video say mp4, f4v, mov, wmv or similar file formats I can't get AIR to play the video. Audio, not a problem it works great.
I would like to do the following with video.
Embed the actual file in the AIR app. I can do this, it gets embedded.
Play, pause and stop the video - Can't get this to work
Get the current stop point and be able to start the video by sending a start point - This is all working with audio I just want to do it with video.
I have searched the forums, the search engines, youtube and read through the documentation on Air but the video does not work at all.
I need code samples and direction on how to make an embedded video play inside of a desktop air application using the HTML / JS air model. I am using the command line tools to create the air package and test the air app.
Please help if you have figured this out.

Not sure if this matters but I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit as my development machine.

In addition I also can not get html5 video to play in the adobe air app. Would this issue be tied to the above?

Android Video play via AIR application is jerky

We are developing an AIR mobile application targetted for Android 2.2 or above. One of the requirement is to play H.264 videos on the mobile from the Assets folder (local file system). We have run in to a show stopper while trying to implement this feature, here are the details -
1. We are using OSMF that comes bundled with Flex Builder 4.6
2. Using Adobe AIR 3.1 and Flex SDK 4.6
When video of quality H.264 MPEG4 1280*720 30FPS with input bit rate 2000 is being played on the mobile device (android), the video frame rate is choppy however on the desktop it plays out fine... StageVideo is something I would like to try however, at this moment I have no access to Android 3.0 which is required for StageVideo...
What are we missing? Is AIR 3 not capable to play H.264 videos on android, though the Android native video player plays it out just fine?

Hi,
Video encoding is very important.
For example, use baseline profile level 3.1 for H264 for mobile
(and not High profile level 4.1 recommended for desktop).

Video playback in AIR application

I'm a purely graphic and video producer who has recently had to take on a touchscreen kiosk project at the very last minute. I have a basic (read pitiful) knowledge of actionscript and html, but no practical experience. I'm using Flash CS5, but also have Flash Builder 4 if that makes any difference at all.
From reference guides and trial and error I have been able to put together a good deal of the project, but a few parts have me quite confused. One is that I need to be able to do two things with HD video in this project;
1. Run a fullscreen looping sequence, which will fade to the menu screen once the screen is touched
2. Place a few video clips onto the stage, to run in sequence with the timeline.
Because of my main experience being video production, I see everything in layers, and I get the feeling that that is part of my issue, because I don't fully understand how the languages interact with objects.
Has anyone ever done something like this, or have any recommendations as to how best to do this? To be perfectly honest I don't even know where to start here.

Can worker created/packaged/executed into a Air application use Air features(like File?

I have compiled "successfully" a Worker swf that uses some Air classes (like File, FileStream etc).
Then i have embedded it into an AIR desktop application, but when i execute the application (with ADL or even installing and then executing it),
i receive a Security Error from the worker, like if it's context doesn't support that type of operations. Is it correct?
Can't workers use Air features like file write/access even if they are embedded in a Desktop Air Application?
It means that can't workers open o write a file in every scenarios?

Problem Description: If we had loaded youtube.com video url in a view stack and navigate to other index of stack or away from we UI screen within the same native window video or embeded tag of flash player or any other embed object will be displayed on top of all screens layer in same position of where the object should be placed in side of html loader only.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) go to http://get.straweb.com/StraWebBrowser/StraWebBrowser.air download and install
2) load 2 tabs and in the 3 tab load video player of youtube.com which will a sample video
before completing the load of 3 tab which trying to load video from youtube.com, navigate to other tabs 1 or 2 in few second once the flash player of youtube.com video player is load it will display in the current tab or UI screen.
3) Try navigating to other tabs than youtube.com loaded tab you see the flash player is on top it stable.
4) navigate to 3 tab and try to navigate to other tab you can observe that so how it will not show that flash player and only visible in that 3 tab which is fine.
Actual Result: Embedded tag of html page displaying on top of all layers of Adobe air application native window
Expected Result: Embedded tag of html page should only displayed in side htmlloader
This you can replicate in any adobe air plugin update and on any Hardware and Environment.
Applicable to all sdk versions of adobe air.

Macbook Air Mavericks cannot play video in ANY presentation application

Long ago, last year to be exact, I had a Macbook Pro 2009, with Open Office and MS Office older versions installed. They played embedded videos in both Impress and Powerpoint PERFECTLY.
This year I bought a Macbook Air and installed Open Office 4.1.0 and MS Office 2011. Now I cannot play any of the videos in these presentations.
I attempted to make new presentations and re-embed the videos. They play in Powerpoint fine ONCE, then not again. They do not embed at all in Open Office. The videos are all MP4 files.
This does not appear to be either a Microsoft or Open Office issue. To me this is clearly because of my upgrades. This is extremely frustrating, as I am a college professor and need to be able to use these programs without a problem. I also use presentations in my creative work.
Each time I find one more thing that I can no longer do with my new machine, I love Apple a little less. I hope someone can help.

Flv video not playing in AIR application

Hi everybody,
i'm building a tutorial with flash catalyst and since the 20 states limit i've split it up in different swf files that I import and show in different states.
One of these swf (which i built with Catalyst as well) is supposed to play a flv video, and it actually plays it if i run it alone.
The problem comes when i build the overall tutorial: it works perfectly with the "run project" command in Catalyst and with the run-local version but the video won't play if i try the AIR application.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
NB: the "asset" directory created with the AIR application installer does contain the flv file (i didn't have to put it there manually)

what I do is:
1. create a file using Captivate
2. i place a .flv video in this file
3. save the file as .swf
4. then i go to dreamweaver and put the swf on a html page.
Now:
when viewed in a browser, everything runs fine.
when i pack this page into an air application (in dreamweaver) the video does not appear,
instead I get this "Connection Error"
I do not know a console or log file.
However, I learned that there is a .xml file located in the same AIR folder that you publish in.
In this .xml file there is a setting :transparency. in order to playt a .flv file this must not be be "transparent"!
(i read this somewhere in the net)

Windows 7 Manifest file embedded in native AIR application exe created by ADT

i have executed string utility to extract all the strings in an AIR application exe and found windows 7 manifest file is embedded with level set to invoker (standard user). We want to change the level to "require administrator" so that exe will automatically launched with administrative privileges but we are unable to find how the manifest file get embedded.

No there isn't a good way to do this from AIR. The biggest
problem is that you couldn't start up the server from AIR, so a
user would always need to start the server, then start your AIR
app.
You could use Pixel Bender to solve your image resizing
quality problem. Pixel Bender is available in the Flash 10 beta
now, and should be available in the next release of AIR. (See
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Pixel_Bender_Toolkit.)
Note that your image quality problem is not with the JPEG encoder,
it is the resize operation. Since bitmap smoothing is not working
for some reason, you get nearest neighbor sampling -- which
produces the artifacts that you see in your images. Using Pixel
Bender you could code your own resize filter that uses bilinear or
even bicubic sampling.

Why is my Air application taking so long to show the first view on iOS devices?

I built an Air application that runs on Android devices and iOS devices. The application uses Air 3.4 and Flex SDK 4.6. On my Android device, the application starts in 5 seconds. On my iPad device, the application starts in 90 seconds.
My application has a splash screen, which is launched via the ViewNavigatorApplication property, splashScreenImage.
The application was built in release mode and the SWF file is 1.384M. After I create the ad-hoc build, which includes the Air Captive Runtime, I see the following file sizes and startup times.
iPad 2 - ipa size, 8.6M
12 seconds of black screen. Then my splash screen appears. 80+ seconds of splash screen. Then my first view appears.
Android Nexus 7 - apk size, 4.0M
2.5 seconds of black screen. Then my splash screen appears. 2.5 seconds of splash screen. Then my first view appears.
Here are more details about my app.
It's a video conferencing app. So I have to set renderMode to "cpu". The app has 5 views and several popups. The popups use the SkinnablePopupContainer. The app uses dependency injection as provided by the Parsley framework to share two small data objects between the views. The app uses web service calls to manage the conference state.
The problem occurs at startup. I haven't rendered a view with video logic, and the first view is a welcome page with a scrollable text area for terms and conditions, one button with an icon, one toggle button, and one hyperlink button.
The app has about 400k of embedded images which are rendered using the MultiDPIBitmapSource.
The app has 43.3K of icons for the various sizes as specified in the application xml file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I figured out how to resolve the issue. I had to change the renderMode from "cpu" to "direct". That solved the problem, and the application performs perfectly. Even the video displays work ok. It's interesting that Adobe advises against using "gpu" or "direct" renderMode when displaying video. I need to figure out why and make sure the application is acceptable as is.
I have more testing to conduct, but I'm very encouraged.

AIR Application Launching problem

Hi All,
I created one AIR application using Flash CS3. The air file size is 350+ MB.
This air file included swf and flvs.
I installed successfully but the problem is when i try to launch the application It takes time.
How can i solve this? Any one help me to solve this problem.

I'm having the same issue. It's definitely due to the videos I have embedded, if I remove them from the package it starts up much more quickly.
Is there a way to avoid loading the videos into memory until I need them?
