Embedding video in a flash movie

I am trying to embed a video (.wmv or mpeg) into my flash movie and Whenever i click import video and select my video it says that it is not supported. I have looked online and it says that flash should support these file types. It allows me to choose a skin and everything for the player but it will not play when I put it in the timeline. Help please

No they are not. The pages are withing a folder called
"Pages", and the FLV files too. The main book file that calls the
pages is on the root folder. I'm not at home now, so I will have to
wait until I can test this, but you think this might be the issue?

Help Exporting Embedded Video Files From Flash

I am new to Flash and this may sound, well dumb but here it goes. I have taken some video files from Final Cut Pro converted them to FLV's imported them and embedded them into flash to create some banners for the web. I need to know what settings I should use to get these out of Flash for the web.
Also I need to send them to someone to look at before publishing. What would be the best format to do that in and how to do it.
Also has anyone has any experience creating banners in or online ads in a Video format like FCP and embedding them into a flash file to export them in flash for we publishing. Sorry again for the dumb question, just new to Flash.

Is there a reason why you embedded the video in Flash rather than using the FLV player?
Starting with the video, since you have the source you can create any type of format you need from that which can be used for preview or the final version depending on where it's going to end up and what is required or preferred. Flash comes into play if the requirement is to have a SWF/FLV other than some other video format, or if you have other Flash content going on at the same time besides the video.
But using Flash for this, the most stratghtforward way is to use the FLV player included with Flash (or another 3rd party player) and point it to your FLV.

Hard to tell exactly what you are doing -
allow me to quote you:

not exactly sure what that means - are you importing an mpeg
into flash to the timeline?
you cant import into an embeded video - that sounds like you
already have a video file in your FLA
and are trying to import another video "into" it - cant be
true and must be a typo.
Make it easier for us to help you by explaining in detail
what you are doing.

After updating to Flash version 11.6.602.171 - can no longer play any embedded videos..and worse

To begin with, I'm running a clean AMD 64 Bit Windows 7 System. Never any problems with any of my video playing scenarios - until now - with this version 11.6.602.171.
After downloading and installing both versions - both for Firefox (other browsers) and IE, none of my browsers can play videos unless they are at their lowest resolution of 240.
So I used the Adobe Flash Uninstaller and ensured that the last vestages of Flash Player were removed - and reinstalled - all to no avail.
Then I downloaded the archived version of 10.3 to see if a previous version would work. But that wouldn't work either. None of my browsers will play videos now and I'm talking:
IE 10
Firefox 19.01
Avant Browser
Google Chrome
Google Chromium
Commodo Dragon
Commodo Ice Dragon
Opera
Waterfox
Pale Moon
None will play the video.
What you get is the video screen but unless you have a 240 option (lowest resolution), all you get is a green screen. You hear the talking/music, but there is no picture and all the green screen does is flash. Here's a JPG of the screen. If you put your cursor anywhere on the progress meter (arrow) it will show you a small image of what's supposed to be playing (see below), but the screen remains green and flashes while playing.
Now here is where it gets interesting. When I completely uninstall Adobe Flash Player and then go to a You Tube embedded video (on any site), there first appears a screen that tells you that you need a plug-in - but then within seconds (without downloading anything), the movie starts playing normally.
I then checked my Firewall (Zone Alarm) - turned it off temporarily - that wasn't the problem. Then checked my latest version of Avast AntiVirus software and temporarily turned it off - that was not the problem either. The videos still won't work and remain green unless you use the lowest resolution.
So this new version 11.6.602.171 has become a nightmare - but I'm afraid it messed up my system big time and I don't know what to do to alleviate this.
Crying HELP!!!!!!!!!!   Is there something I'm overlooking. I'm now screwed - way to go Adobe for releasing such a faulty software product.

It sounds like we've got a number of *different* problems on this thread. I'll try and respond to a few of them.
@filter 2.5 and everyone else running into a green screen issue. Please try the solution outlined in the post below to see if it will allow you to use hardware acceleration. The other alternative is to try a different ATI driver.

Sometimes video and audio problems are caused at a lower level and not directly related to Flash Player. I recommend trying both of the links below to see how they perform. If the problem exists with both, then Flash Player is most likely not the culprit as the HTML5 video link does not use Flash Player when playing. You can verify the use of HTML5 by right clicking the HTML5 video and looking for the words "About HTML5" at the bottom of the context menu.

@mem2013 - The Flash Player update service will not impact Flash Player's performance. This is a separate service that runs for just an instant on your system once an hour (if you have automatic updates enabled.) Changing it from manual to automatic shouldn't make any difference.

Embedding flash movie in a web page

I have created a flash movie using actionscript 3 and an xml file with a list of images for a slideshow. After clicking publish, I can view the slideshow by previewing the html file it creates for you. However, I want to embed this flash movie in a different web page. When I try to add it in Dreamweaver, by dragging and dropping the swf file into the page, a flash placeholder is generated, but the movie does not play when previewed. It is just blank white space.
Now I watched the Tom Green tutorials on "flash the easy way" and my flash (CS4 professional) did NOT generate the AC_RunActiveContent.js files. I did find and download the file and manually added it to my Scripts folder. Still no joy.
I will note that the html file that embeds the flash video is in a different directory than the movie itself. Surely this cannot be the issue, otherwise people's websites would be incredibly messy with multiple flash videos. I am trying to put all the flash movies in their own child directories of a /flash directory to keep them neat and organized.
I am not sure what to do next. How do you make the dang thing play on a web page that is in another directory?

If you are loading content ala using an xml file, that may be the source of the problem. When you load a Flash file into a web page, that web page becomes the frame of reference for any files that the swf loads. So if you tested this where the html file was in the same folder, but then moved things into different folders, then you need to adjust the Flash to load things as if it is in the html file's folder

Flash wont play embedded videos only on some accounts

Here is my system and software configuration. Windows7 - IE8 32 bit -- latest Flash version. Flash plays embedded videos under administrator account but not on the other user accounts. Youtube and tests on adobe site shows flash working on all accounts. I've checked IE security settings and kill bit in the registry. Harware acceleration does not make a difference. I've unloaded and loaded Flash multiple times even in the other accounts changing account type to administrator temporarily. Nothing will make it work. I've checked firewall and Norton AV turning them on and off. I am out of ideas and out of patience. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, just wanted to tell this is exactly the same problems I have. And I have tested like you said. My administrator user account can show embeded videos correctly, but both my non-adm user account can not show correctly embeded. And tried to change non-adm account to adm - did not help.
System: Vista home, IExplorer 9
Videos on Youtube.com plays perfect and the adobe "about" flash page shows I have installed latest and I see a spinning logo with my non-adm users.
I have also checked the kill-bit in registery.
But I did find out something, unfortunally it's not a solution, but a clue what's going on - I hope.
If I open this example webpage, all I can see are 2 blank frames and a icon in upper left corner.
If I open same weblink with my adminastror, I can see the videos.

After alot of search on the web, I found some ideas. Copy the below text and save it as "test.html", and open the file in IExplorer. This html text is a mix of collected html-text from above webpage and added some from youtube.com where you get the html-code to copy&paste to embed. The source at end is using IFRAME methode.
The only visible embeded sources using my non-adm account are those that has a "classid" added or IFRAME methode. If there is no "classid" my non-adm account only sees a blank frame and icon in upper left. My administrator account does see ALL sources.
But how to fix that I can see all embeded as non-adm user - sorry, I have no clue
One extra thing: I noticed when running IExplorer as non-adm user, I can see a line in the process-list in windows taskmananger, process-name "FlashUtil10n_ActiveX.exe" with info-text "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 10.2r152" if I try to view a webpage with flash source.
If I do the same thing with my administrator user this process is not listed in windows taskmanager.

Publishing quick time movie from a fla with embeded video

I'm exporting my flash movie as a quick time movie (setting
the flash version in 5 on the publish settings), and everything is
ok except that the videos that are embeded just dissapear. Is there
a way to import .movs into a .fla and still being able to export to
whole thing into quick time?

My guess is that you import video to flash using codec that
is not supported in
QT player. Do the following. Open new document and set it
right away to FLASH 5,
than import the video and you will notice your options has
drastically change to
very minimal. Anyhow, import, do whatever you wish to it,
export as QT MOV file.
Should work on first go. If does not, please upload that
video you trying to use,

Flash video in on flowing move

Hello,
I work with Linux FC14 and installed:
firefox.i686                             3.6.15-1.fc14
flash-plugin.i386                        10.2.152.27-release         @adobe-linux-i386
When I with a right mouse click try to open the Configurations Adobe Flash Player, then I see that it is disabled.
So I cannot open the Configurations Adobe Flash Player window.
Because in Screen Tab it should be able to turn on the Hardware Acceleration.
Please my question: how can I get the Flash video in on flowing move?

Hi, Sorry you are having problems. I use Windows and help with Flash Player on that mostly. Mac, a little. Linux, I don't know at all. Sometimes other users that use Linux would help and that's better.

Flash player not working on embedded videos

This week my computer stopped playing embedded videos (from vimeo) on my website. The window appears with the normal titles but no video.http://www.vevideo.ie/wedding.htm, only a small box in the top left hand corner.
My computer will play videos on vimeo etc no problem. I also noticed the same problems with a friends blog site, some of the videos I couls see and play, others no http://erolmedia.blogspot.com/
I uninstalled my flash player and reinstalled 10.1 with no difficulty. The problem remains

No embedded video (empty bar) in FF ver. 15 32bit. Sound plays. Flash ver. 11.4.402.265. No problems in IE. Windows 7 x64.

Installed FF 15 (32 bit) on a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate edition (x64).
Everything works fine except the embedded video.
The video clip thumbnail is shown, when clicking on the clip the sound plays and the right-mouse click shows flash player options, but no video is shown (empty bar).
No problems on original YouTube or other flash video sites were detected.
No crashes detected.
Please, advise.

1) Started the FF in Safe Mode.
The embedded video works normally (!!!)
2) Re-started the FF in normal mode - got the problem.
3) Disabled ALL plugins and ALL add-ons (except the flash player) in Normal Mode - got the problem (once again, ALL plugins / add-ons were disabled).
Safe Mode - everything works.
Normal Mode - problem occurs (with no relation to disabling plugins / add-ons).
Looks like there's something built-in FF which has the problem with showing embedded video normally in FF Normal Mode.

Flash movie embedded in Acrobat (Intel Mac)

I use the slideshow feature in Acrobat to give presentations.
Maybe that's a crazy idea, but anyway, I do. I have an Acrobat
slideshow with an embedded Flash movie that used to play very
nicely.
Now I've switched to an Intel Mac and Flash 9 beta. When I
play the slideshow, Acrobat gives me an error that it can't play
the movie, and then it wants to take me to download an additional
player. Okay, fine. But the download page it takes me to is for
QuickTime Pro. Will that really help? Why won't Flash 9 beta work
with Acrobat? I don't see any standalone player in my download...
that may have something to do with it.
Anyway, I would have hoped for greater integration with
Acrobat now that Flash Player is an Adobe app. How to bridge this
gap? Matt.

Opening maximized window from embedded flash movie

I have a html file with a flash movie-menu embedded into it. I'd like one of the buttons to open an external html page strictly in a new maximized window. It does not matter if the new window has toolbar or not. I want it to open a new maximized window (not the full screen thing) onclick.
How can I achieve this?

use the javascript window.open method to open your popup and set the page dimensions.
you can use getURL or navigateToURL() to execute a javascript function or better use the externalinterface class to call a javascript function in your embedding html file.

When upgrading Flash 10.2 (Firefox at Version 3.6.14) Any Browser embedded videos run in a split screen (the same video in one screen only dual). Doesn't happen in IE. To fix I did a system rollback.
