Embedding vs direct on mac

Hi all,
I have a weird one here - i hope someone else has experienced
this and can offer some insight...
I'm developing a video coaching programme based in-part on
Jereon's flvPlayer.. (ain't it great!)
The flv clips in the app are 540x200 - so we expected some
slow-down on old machines and thought we could encode another
low-quality set if we really needed to...
During testing we found that flv playback (and general flash
speed) was suffering on older macs (x.4 700Mhz, 640Mb RAM ish)...
We tried some Mac tricks like speedFreak (gives maximum
system resources to foremost app), and tried mulitudes of different
flv encodings (both kbps and fps) to try to get something
watchable.. pretty much to no avail - the movies ended up looking
very very compressed and still wouldn't play smoothly.
We turned off smoothing and deblocking...
We tried different browsers -Firefox was slightly more
capable than Safari and old IE's were dismal... but none would do
anything close to 'good enough'
We tried different swf embedding techniques from Adobe, Bobby
VanderSomething, etc, and we tried direct object/embed without
detection to be sure ... nothing was changing....
Then I started having problems with Bobby's UFO that i hadn't
seen before when reloading the page.. (not related) But, it did
cause me to try calling the swf directly in the browser...
i.e No embedding:
http://this.com/this.swf
Suddenly everything was working sweet as a nut! I switched
back to our original clips (On2 ~300kbps, 30fps) and turned
deblocking back on. Blow me down - it's still running like a dream
even on an old Mac clunker with other apps running.
We've not had any problems with flv playback speed on any
Windows machines in testing.. only on basic spec iMacs
Can anyone please confirm that the actual embedding of flash
movies in HTML somehow reduces available resources or something(!?)
- when using a Mac of similar spec mentioned above.
We'd love to get to the bottom of this as we don't want to
have to launch the app 'outside' of the (HTML-based CMS-driven)
site it currently fit's so neatly into.
Many thanx in advance if you can help even in the slightest -
and many thanx for reading this far (!)
Best,
VV

When will i save any files on a Time Capsule using MAC will it be possible to access them using Windows on a diffrent PC (PS3 or any other equipment)without any issues?
Yes. Some document formats can't be used in Windows, such as compiled AppleScripts.
is the data saved on TC using MAC got diffrent format or it is the same which WIndows is using and any other equipment?
As long as the drive is connected to or inside the Time Capsule, its format doesn't matter.

  • Flash movie embedded in Acrobat (Intel Mac)

I use the slideshow feature in Acrobat to give presentations.
Maybe that's a crazy idea, but anyway, I do. I have an Acrobat
slideshow with an embedded Flash movie that used to play very
    nicely.
Now I've switched to an Intel Mac and Flash 9 beta. When I
play the slideshow, Acrobat gives me an error that it can't play
the movie, and then it wants to take me to download an additional
player. Okay, fine. But the download page it takes me to is for
QuickTime Pro. Will that really help? Why won't Flash 9 beta work
with Acrobat? I don't see any standalone player in my download...
that may have something to do with it.
Anyway, I would have hoped for greater integration with
Acrobat now that Flash Player is an Adobe app. How to bridge this
    gap? Matt.

I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products, as it's their software you're having issues with:

  • MAC PRO TO LGTV WITH WI-FI DIRECT. MAC SETTINGS?

My mac finds the TV but TV can't find Mac. What settings do I need on Mac and how do I set them.
I would like to connnect Mac to TV wirelessly.

    Hi Sabretooth04,
Thank for the link to the HP LaserJet Pro 300/400 Color User Guide. I have already downloaded the PDF of the User Guide and have it safely stored in the "Documents" folder on my main hard drive. I have made searches within the document looking for information about securing the wireless WiFi connection on the HP LaserJet Pro 300/400 Color. I have not found the answer I was looking for.
You directed me to page 43 in the HP LaserJet Pro 300/400 Color User Guide (document number c02663889). Unfortunetely those instructions are for installing a Windows wireless network. I do not have a Windows computer. I have an Apple iMac computer. I apologize for not being clear enough about the computer I'm using.
My Apple iMac shows me all the Wi-Fi networks that are within range of my Apple iMac. Most of the networks are password protected / secure / locked (meaning next to the name of the newtwork there is a padlock symbol) My HP 64 LaserJet 400 Color appears in the list of Wi-Fi networks and it is not secure or does not have a padlock symbol next to the name (HP 64 LaserJet 400 Color). This tells me that anyone within the range of the printer could wirelessly send a document to my printer to be printed. I don't kow why someone would want to do that but my experience is there are evil people that don't have anything better to do than cause disruption and mayhem and an unlocked printer is an invitation to send a 250 page document to my unsecured/not password protected/unlocked HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color Printer and use up all my paper and towner.
So I do I secure my HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color Printer with a password so someone cannot access the printer wirelessly and print a 250 page document when I'm not home?
    Thank you.

I have installed BBC i player on my Mac Book Pro (this is a media player)- works fine.
I can down load, watch and listen to programmes but I have been unable to save the Audio from the media that is playing.
Is there any way of recording the Audio directly from the Downloaded programme or film to be saved directly to my Mac hard drive whilst the media is playing on my Mac. I have Down loaded Audacity but, I am unsure on how to save the music directly to my Mac’s hard drive.

there is a program called highjack or hijack that you can record any audio playing over the system

  • Playing embedded AVI files on Mac

I know there are players and codecs out there to play avi files on a Mac. But those are all stand alone players (I believe...like VLC).
I have the updated version of quicktime and I believe all the codecs to play avi files, but I was wondering if there is anything else out there that will play avi files that are embedded in to a basic HTML page? When I load certain pages, all I get is the QUICKTIME "Q" with a question mark in the middle.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

to be able to see videos of all the formats you don't have to, but in order to export movies from one file type to the other I think you do. You can export them without getting the full version but it has a very large watermark on the videos saying "Made with Flip4Mac" or something like that.
but for normal usage as a way to watch movies with quicktime, no you don't have to upgrade.

  • Direct conx mac to pc for gaming

Hello. Can anyone advise how to configure a direct connection via ethernet cable from mac to pc for multiplayer games like starcraft and warcraft?
I haven't bought a macbook yet. I've been a mac loyalist since 1990. But I'm in the navy now and while deployed overseas my shipmates and I like to set up a LAN for gaming during downtime. If my future macbook can't share in the fun, then my next computer will be a D#!!.

You can export all contacts in the Address Book as a single vCard file.
Depending on the the supported Windows address book application you will be using - Outlook or Windows Contacts, importing a single vCard file that includes all contacts that was exported from the Address Book may not be supported or work.
To export all contacts as a single vCard file, select the Address Book All Contacts Group and with a contact selected, at the menu bar go to Edit and choose Select All. With all contacts selected, at the menu bar go to File > Export and select Export vCard, or click and drag all selected contacts to the Desktop and release to create a single vCard file for all contacts. I'm pretty sure Outlook does not support importing a single vCard export for all contacts so I assume the Windows Contacts address book doesn't support this either.
To export all contacts as an individual vCard for each contact, with all contacts selected, press the option button before clicking and dragging all selected contacts to a folder created on the desktop and release.

  • EPub with Embedded Fonts Causes iBooks/Mac to Hang

I have an ePub that I created with InDesign CC that I want to sell on the iBookstore. I've embedded the main font for the book, which is Adobe Caslon Pro. The text looks great in iBooks for Mac and iOS. However, in iBooks for Mac, if I click on the A up in the top right, to see what the font viewing choices are, I get an endless spinning beach ball and the only way out is to force quite iBooks.
This does not happen on iBook for iOS. Everything works as expected. I can go into the font menu and change fonts, sizes, etc. with no problems.
I've done extensive searching on the internet and can't find where anyone else is having this problem.
Hoping that someone here might have a clue.
I'm running the latest versions of Mavericks and iBooks.
    Thanks in advance.

a brody, thanks for the advice. I can't say that when the Energy Saver settings have been set such that hard disk sleeping is not allowed that moving data between or among drives has been slow by any means, but I may try configuring the drives in a "normal" fashion as you suggest.
One question, though. In the main (rear) carrier of my computer, obviously I could set the jumpers to Master and Slave, but with only a single drive in the front carrier, would the advice be to set this to Master or Cable Select? It's this drive in the front carrier that seems to throw the system out of whack when it comes to the system trying to access it when it's already spun down. Instead of spinning it back up, the system just hangs (when the Energy Saver settings allow for the disks to sleep).
If additional information about my drive configuration is needed, I can't get to the system or the inside of the computer right now as it's in the middle of imaging my Tiger installation. However, I do recall that the front carrier had two separate ATA cables available, and I used the ATA 66 cable, which was supplied but not plugged into the logic board. I plugged it in the appropriate connector on the logic board (labeled ATA 66) and installed the drive, setting the jumper to Cable Select. The other (unused) cable is labeled on the logic board as ATA 33. I know that the drive I installed in the front carrier (an Ultra ATA drive) is backwards compatible with ATA 66, but I don't know about ATA 33. I'd have to refer to the Seagate website for further information on how the drive in question could be used.

  • Using an SLR to shoot video directly to Mac hard drive in iMovie?

I have a project in which I need to shoot training videos which will essentially just be head shots of myself.
Because I need to be my own cameraman I would like to record the video directly to my Mac's hard drive via iMovie '09 (or iMovie '11 if I upgrade) and frame the shot in my Mac's monitor rather than on a tiny, flipped camera viewfinder.
Since I want to get the best video quality possible, rather than use my MacBook Pro's internal iSight camera, I plan to purchase an external camera that shoots HD video.
According to the Apple article at the following link, an external camera can be used in VTR mode as a pass-through for just this purpose — to shoot video directly to the computer's hard drive in iMovie:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84285.html
Now here's where things get a little complicated. I would like my new camera to be an SLR if possible, since beyond shooting these training videos, my next use for the camera would be high-quality still photography.
Can an SLR be used in this manner to record directly to disk in VTR mode in either iMovie or Quicktime? If so, what where can I find a list of iMovie-compatible SLRs? (I would also welcome specific camera recommendations from any SLR owners who have used them to shoot video directly to disk.)
Finally, if it is not possible to shoot directly to disk with an SLR, is there an iMovie-compatible HD camcorder that also shoots great photos?
(MacBook Pro June '10, OS 10.6.8, iMovie 9)

Thanks. That makes sense. It is not practical for me to use an external monitor for this, so I will look into getting a firewire video camera.
Forgive my ignorance, but are firewire video cameras still manufactured at the prosumer level? I want the video to look very good, but it does not have to be absolute broadcast quality. My budget tops out around $1500 for this. I need to hook up an external mic for good audio.
Any recommendations from this list of compatible cameras? The list does not specify which are firewire cameras.:

  • Can't get time capsule to work via ethernet direct to mac

    Hi All
I am having trouble setting up my time capsule direct to my mac via ethernet it works fine through my router backs up a treat via ethernet.
Can anyone help me through the process have looked online but they all set them up through their routers.
    Cheers

If you reset the Time Capsule by holding in the reset button for 10 seconds and then releasing and allowing it to restart, then you need to connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your wireless router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
Then configure the Time Capsule to create a new wireless network. You don't have to use this new network....you can use your existing network if you want.
Then connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule.

  • Which port does Safari use for web browsing directly on Mac

In our intranet network, clients both using proxy or directly connect to internet is OK, but when we disable UDP port upwards 10000, Mac users can not connect to internet without seting proxy, and Windows user is no problem on this. How could this be, wich port does safari use when browsing web

Should be using Port 80 (HTTP).

  • Is there a USB hub that works as well as plugging directly into Mac?

Some items don't seem to work as well when they are plugged into my "entrega machub 4U" as when they are plugged directly into my Mac Pro (i.e. my Logitech Web cam). Given the low number of USB ports on my Mac, I need a hub that can handle my accessories. Can anyone recommend a brand that works as well as plugging directly into the Mac?

  • Capturing Analog Video Direct To Mac

Hey dudes - I hope you are all well and having a good holiday weekend
I have some shows on a REPLAY-TV box and a TIVO box that I would like to get onto my Mac
The outputs are S-Video and RCA audio --- I would normally record these shows to a MiniDV tape, but I don't have my deck with me, and I'm trying to digitize them soon
With that said --- is there a hardware solution out there, that would allow me to plug my Replay and TIVO into my PowerBook, and capture shows directly off of the analog signal? I'm happy to purchase any extra hardware that's necessary - I just want to be pointed in the right direction
    thank you all!!!

A Canopus product such as the ADVC110 would work.
Analog in, FIrewire out to the Mac.

  • Capture HPX500 live feed directly to Mac?

How to capture directly into a Mac from a live feed from a HPX500 P2 camera?

We did several hours with 2 HPX 500s at the 145th Gettysburg event this year. We used FCP 5.1.4 log and capture over firewire. Make sure to keep the firewire cable under 15 feet. Settings DVCPro HD 720p30. Set the HPX 500 to 720p30 NOT 720p30n. Make sure you are capturing to a fast Raid array with firewire 800 interface and enough space. Connect the camera to the firewire 400 port. Turn off the abort dropped frames, auto render, turn off drive and computer sleep. No problems at all. Great thing is that it is already there ready to edit at the end of the show. Really cool way to do a long form capture.

  • Sending map directions from Mac to iPhone

When I first got my Macbook Pro, I could enter directions into Maps on my laptop and then "forward" those directions easily to my iPhone or iPad.  It worked beautifully.  Now it is not working any longer?  I have looked at the Notification Center settings on my iPhone to make sure the "Maps" settings are correct and they are.  I SHOULD receive the directions immediately on my phone and I did for several months.  Now, however, when I forward the directions from my Mac to my iPhone, they never show up??
    Any thoughts?

UPDATE:  Ok, so the directions DO show up when I open Maps on my iPhone.  I am simply not getting the notification.  So, I guess this is more of a "Notification Center" topic if a mod doesn't mind moving it for me
My notification center settings for Maps IS set up correctly on my iPhone.  I have it set to "Alert" style with ALL other settings (Badge App Icon, Sounds, Show in NC, and Show in Lock Screen) turned ON.  But I don't get a notification???
