EMC client side monitoring

Has anyone found or put together an MP for monitoring EMC SAN connected hosts?  I'm specifically looking for monitoring of Powerpath, Navishphere and SRDF/CE and their associated connected disk volumes.
Thanks
Dean

EMC has packages available for monitoring EMC PowerPath on the host side for MOM 2005 and SCOM 2007.  The agent can be configured to send SNMP traps to another SNMP server instead (if desired).  Should be free to existing PowerPath customers, check with EMC to confirm.
The document you want is "EMC PowerPath Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager", version 5.3, User Guide, P/N 300-007-082 Rev A01.  You would think this should be available in the EMC document library on Powerlink, but it's not.  Instead you need to download management packages from Powerlink, which include the documentation.  Here's the path in Powerlink:
Home > Support > Software Downloads and Licensing > Downloads P-R > PowerPath for Windows
Scroll down to the bottom and in the section "PowerPath for Windows Utilities" you need one of the following packages.  Both appear to contain the same documentation - the user guide listed above.
PowerPath Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager SCOM-2007
PowerPath Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager SCOM-2007 is supported starting with PowerPath 5.0 and later on all three Architectures, Net32, Net64(IA64), and X64.

Good luck.  I'd welcome any comments from existing customers who are using one of these packages in production.

  • Client-Side Monitoring Agent

    I have deployed scom 2012 r2, discovery my windows servers, and installed agent on servers. When I go to Monitoring and then Healthy state, I saw that Client-Side Monitoring Agent and some others show Not monitored. After some google, I know that maybe they
    are not enabled by default. My question is that how I can find what monitors they are belong to?
    EX: Where I can find "Client-Side Monitoring Agent" under Authoring --> Monitors? And then enable it from there.  Thanks.

    It sounds like you are referring to Client-Side Monitoring for .net application performance monitoring. This is not enabled by default and you wouldn't want to enable it without reading up on the subject and trying it out on a test environment first. There
    are many factors to consider, a few being; monitoring compatibility for a website, the potential for sensitive data getting into your SCOM databases, and monitored application stability.
    You can find .net application performance monitoring by going to "authoring" in the managment console, and then "managment pack templates".

  • Nothing appeared in "Enable Client Side Monitoring" tab to be anabled

    Hi,
    I've created a new APM.NET Test via .NET Application Performance Monitoring Template and after following all the steps provided by Kevin Greene in the URL: http://kevingreeneitblog.blogspot.de/2012/03/scom-2012-configuring-application_49.html and when I
    reach the part to enable the CSM I found it null with nothing to be enabled (the Check Client-Side Monitoring Compatibility’ task is finished successfully ).
    Why Enable CSM is empty? How to show the application Is this affecting the APM monitoring results?
    P.S.
    - We are now using SCOM2012R2 with CU2 (with only R2, we faced an outage due to the SCOM R2 Agents was not compatible with the version of SCOM APM in R2, and the CU2 is supposed to solve this problem)
    Thanks.
    Khaled

    Hi Khaled,
    CSM is not for all application types, it's only for IIS7+ hosted ASP.NET Web Applications (which should be firstly added to server-side monitoring) interacting with end users. It's not for all sorts of Web Services or Windows Services.

  • Benefits of Client Side Monitoring with SCOM 2012R2?

    I'm working on the architecture for adding SCOM 2012R2 to our Windows network.  Right now we use SCCM 2012R2 and SCEP.  I'm trying to determine whether I should include our workstation computers as part of this or only servers.  We won't
    be doing Application Performance Monitoring (APM).  So what would be the benefit of putting the SCOM agent on the workstations?
    # When I wrote this script only God and I knew what I was doing. # Now, only God Knows!

    Hi,
    As it was mentioned by Yan Li_ first thing to do is the proper planning and comparing all pros and cons of SCOM client monitoring, depending on numbers of agent\agentless servers\workstations to be monitored. With a large number of agentless monitored
    clients, it makes sense to have a separate SCOM infrastructure.

  • The Group Policy client-side extension Scripts failed ...

    This is an error I've been seeing forever and it was always the impression that upgrading would resolve it, but it never has even in 10.3. 100% of our users get these errors in the Event Viewer:
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Userenv
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 1085
    Date: 10/21/2010
    Time: 8:04:52 AM
    User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
    Computer: XXXXXX
    Description:
    The Group Policy client-side extension Scripts failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension.
    For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    We also seem to have flakey policy issues where once in awhile a user will not be able to logon to Windows with Workstation Only while getting the " not allowed to logon interactively" message, other times the users report not being able to access the Windows Date and Time Properties and further sometimes they are unable to make system changes.
    We have troubleshooted this and the only resolutions we've found are to run zac cc, zac ref, zac pl and sometimes it seems like deleting c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy will help.
    In regards to the Event Viewer entry I posted, on any given machine I can issue the command gpupdate and it will put another entry into the Event Viewer (sometimes multiple ones). I've learned through research that if I "clean up" c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy\gpt.ini the errors go away, but once the policy is refreshed they come right back.

    I'm not sure how to get Zenworks to use the cleaned up version nor and I too sure what those extra extensions are and how they got in there. I may need to contact Novell in regards to this, but since I'm already working on an SR with them I figured I'd go ahead and post here first.
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Here are the groups I'm using. NOTE: These have been in affect throughout the issues experienced. Users will work perfectly fine then suddenly the problem will start happening without any policy change on our side.
    -Member of-
    Network Configuration Operators+
    Remote Desktop Users+
    Users+
    -Assigned Rights under a group I called "Other Rights"-
    Access this computer from network
    Change the system time
    Log on locally
    Shut down the system
    The only condition I have is that these issues happen when logging in Workstation Only and I'm not able to recreate the problem on demand with tests.

  • Missing post message in client session monitoring

    Hi,
    I have synchronized creating a record of a data object, in the message monitoring tool appears that the message is processed correctly but if I look the session at the client session monitoring that message did not appears, would appears as post message, right?
    Another question, why in the client session monitoring at session information of a one session appears not sorted the synchronization cycle number or date and time? Can I sorted it?
    I'm in 7.10 SP11.
    Thanks in advance and kind regards.

    Hi,
    You see only default columns given by SAP. But you can add additional attributes like direction, message type etc., by going to personalization screen. On extreme right of the table top, you see a couple of buttons. One of them is personalization. Click on that and it opens a pop which shows the list of available fields for display on left side and fields which are already displayed on the right side.
    You need to select direction and message type from left and move them to right and save and apply those settings for the user. So from next time, it shows the selected attributes.
    Coming to your problem, do you see any messages at all in session monitoring? Without giving any filtering criteria just try to search for all of them in the system. See if you get any entries at all. (If still not displayed then you need to enable session monitoring logs).
    The timezone difference could be because the system timezone is set to different timezone than of your current.
    Best Regards,
    Siva.

  • Password hashing on client side

    Hi. I would like my users to have their passwords hashed in SHA1 at the client side when they login so that when the html form comes to the server, the password is hashed and in case if the form is being eavesdropped on , I do not need to worry about the passwords in plain since it's hashed.
    I am not using SSL because there isn't much things to encrypt or hide secret other than just for the login passwords or users changing their user profile like updating their passwords. And SSL can add quite abit of cost to my client's web hosting budget.
    So simply, is there anyway to hash passwords in client side using JSP before it is sent to the server ?

    Not using jsp no, because JSP stands for Java SERVER Pages. Meaning that java/jsp only runs on the server.
    You can do it in javascript client-side: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/sha1.html
    But whats the point?
    Now instead of sending what they user typed in, you send the hash of it.
    If anyone is monitoring the line, they can just send the hash of it as well.
    No protection is afforded you by doing this.
    Hashing the password doesn't stop someone stealing it by tapping into the line.
    What is DOES stop is somebody querying your database and saying "give me a list of username/passwords"

  • RDS WS2012R2 and "Client Side rendering"

    Hello,
    Is it normal that the CSR key continues to populate even if the CSR is disabled (verified with 'Get-Printer -Full |fl')?
    BTW winprint is used for all the printers on the print servers, and non-microsoft monitors are deleted.
    Thx,
    Ludovic H.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    If you disable this policy setting on a client computer, the client itself will process print jobs into printer device commands. These commands will then be sent to the print server, and the server will simply pass the commands to the printer. This increases
    the workload of the client while decreasing the load on the server. If you do not enable this policy setting, the behavior is the same as disabling it.
    This policy does not determine whether offline printing will be available to the client. The client print spooler can always queue print jobs when not connected to the print server. On reconnecting to the server, the client will submit any pending print jobs.
    In cases in which the client print driver does not match the server print driver (mismatched connection), the client will always process the print job regardless of the setting of this policy.

  • Client-side UserTransaction

    Ok,
              POJO client side. API code uses JNDI to find TransactionManager and determines that there are no current XA connection running so it uses JNDI to lookup javax.transaction.UserTransaction.
              It starts the transaction by calling begin()
              It calls some other code that sends a JMS message.
              It commits the transaction.
              end of story, eh.... no.
              I use JView 2004 to get performance data like transaction throughput and cannot see that a transaction was started and committed. To see that a transaction actually was started I use userTransaction.getState() after begin() and verifies that it is active.
              I then get the thread name after begin and just before the queueSender.send(....) code and it is the same.
              Finally, I verify with success that the transaction was committed.
              If I use a MDB to read the message from the queue I can see the transaction throughput in JView.
              Is it some bizarre I have forgot that a getStatus()==Status.STATUS_ACTIVE wouldn't catch or do you think JView cannot "see" client initiated transactions?
              Lars

    My guess is JView cannot see the transaction, have you tried using the weblogic console to monitor the transaction.
              servers>monitoring>JTA
              you can then select to monitor the transaction by name, resource or inflight.
              Tell me how you get on.

  • What permissions are needed on the client side for RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace?

    Hi.
    I am running a remote powershell command from an IIS application to an Exchange server getting the below error. Everything works fine if the IIS application pool identity is in the local administrators group on the IIS server so we can rule out issues with
    firewall or anything on the Exchange server. It is a problem with lack of privileges on the local server.
    So my question is: What permissions are required on the local server for RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace? I find good documentation on the permissions required on the server side, but nothing about the client side.
    The last Win32 error code after failure is 1008.
    An internal error occurred.

    Thanks Daniel.
    I see that the IIS server has a GPO setting 'Allow log on locally' to the local administrators group for this server. I will order add of the IIS app pool identity to this list.
    I tried the process monitor comparing runs with and without the app pool identity as local administrator. The runs are identical up to the point where one does something useful and the other closes 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WSMAN'.
    There are no failures.
    I am not using my runspace objects for multiple threads. I dispose after use.
    I will end up with the below if I change. Comments?

  • How to generate rule log on client side

    I am looking for a solution where I could generate a rule log and make it available on client side. I know generating a log during consolidation and save it on server. However, I want to make it available on client side.
    I have created four scenarios in HFM application, namely -
    1. ACTUAL_REPORTING - To capture TB data and use it for reporting
    2. ACTUAL_ICP - To capture ICP data and run custom business rule as per requirement
    3. ACTUAL_ADDINPUT - To capture additional memorandum inputs
    During consolidation,data is copied from ACTUAL_ICP and ACTUAL_ADDINPUT to ACTUAL_REPORTING. However, problem is that user should consolidate ACTUAL_ICP AND ACTUAL_ADDINPUT scenarios first. If they miss executing the consolidation in these scenarios, then the data copied would be wrong. Just as to ensure this, there's a provision is HFM to check calculation status in rule file and looking at that, calcuation could be stopped and a message could be sent to the user. But delimma is, how to report the same on the user side.
    Possible solution that I could have thought are -
    1. To generate a rule log and post the same to the client, but how to do this? As path of the rule log could be of the server only (that is C:\Hyperion\Logs\Rule)
    2. To generate a rule log and pop a web page terminating consolidation, but how to do this?
    3. To raise an error from the rule file and direct it to the system messages, but how to to this?
    Please advice and any further clarification is required please contact me.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Mustafa

    You can define the output folder as a share, which has already been mentioned. I strongly advise against implementing any solution that in production will regularly generate an external file.
    1) The output file is generated by the DCOM user. If you want this user to generate a file in a specific location, it must be writeable by the DCOM user, and readable by the intended human user. Make sure both NTFS and share level permissions on the target file and its containing folder consider this. Latency for the file write can degrade performance.
    2) Most HFM implementations have two or more HFM application servers. You have no control over which server will execute the file, and also no control over what happens if two or more servers try to write to the same file. You can create a process which causes HFM to become single threaded if every time Sub Calculate for any entity on any server needs to open a single file. This is because the file object is single threaded. It could be multi-threaded if you write out to a database, but certainly far more complex.
    3) Wait state: while as in #2, this can single thread the process, and you have to consider whether your process will error out during moments when another process has access to the file, or if you will ignore that and simply proceed. This can have a significant impact on performance time if you decide to wait until the file becomes available.
    While I have done implementations where the overall solution required combining data across multiple scenarios, I consistently find this a cumbersome, error-prone, and poorly performing approach. For this reason, I always try to keep all of the data required in a single scenario. This is one key reason why the "DataSource" or "DataType" (or whatever you call it) approach is so popular and successful.
    Finally, you cannot write to the HFM system messages. You can, on the other hand, use Calc Manager to write out to a system log.

    Hi Jacek,
    Unfortunately I think you may be stuck extending Renderer. Another possibility is creating your component via a template, which will be available in JSF 2.0. However, as JSF 2.0 won't be out for a while... you can use JSFTemplating in the meantime:
    http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/jsf_templating/

    Good luck!

  • How can i load file into database from client-side to server-side

    i want to upload file from client-side to server-side, i use the following code to load blob into database.
    if the file is in the server-side, it can work, but if it in the client-side, it said that the system cannot find the file. i think it only will search the file is in the server-side or not, it will not search the client-side.
    how can i solve it without upload the file to the server first, then load it into database??
    try
    ResultSet rset = null;
    PreparedStatement pstmt =
    conn.prepareStatement ("insert into docs values (? , EMPTY_BLOB())");
    pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
    pstmt.execute ();
    // Open the destination blob:
    pstmt.setInt (1, docId);
    rset = pstmt.executeQuery (
    "SELECT content FROM docs WHERE id = ? FOR UPDATE");
    BLOB dest_lob = null;
    if (rset.next()) {
    dest_lob = ((OracleResultSet)rset).getBLOB (1);
    // Declare a file handler for the input file
    File binaryFile = new File (fileName);
    FileInputStream istream = new FileInputStream (binaryFile);
    // Create an OutputStram object to write the BLOB as a stream
    OutputStream ostream = dest_lob.getBinaryOutputStream();
    // Create a tempory buffer
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    int length = 0;
    // Use the read() method to read the file to the byte
    // array buffer, then use the write() method to write it to
    // the BLOB.
    while ((length = istream.read(buffer)) != -1)
    ostream.write(buffer, 0, length);
    pstmt.close();
    // Close all streams and file handles:
    istream.close();
    ostream.flush();
    ostream.close();
    //dest_lob.close();
    // Commit the transaction:
    conn.commit();
    conn.close();
    } catch (SQLException e) {

    Hi,
    Without some more details of the configuration, its difficult to know
    what's happening here. For example, what do you mean by client side
    and server side, and where are you running the upload Java application?
    If you always run the application on the database server system, but can't
    open the file on a different machine, then it sounds like a file protection
    problem that isn't really connected with the database at all. That is to
    say, if the new FileInputStream (binaryFile) statement fails, then its not
    really a database problem, but a file protection issue. On the other hand,
    I can't explain what's happening if you run the program on the same machine
    as the document file (client machine), but you can't write the data to the
    server, assuming the JDBC connection string is set correctly to connect to
    the appropriate database server.
    If you can provide some more information, we'll try to help.

  • Print text file to  client side printer

    Hi all,
    I have a character mode report which will print to a client side dot matrix printer in 6i. After converted to 10g, we cannot print to the client side printer (because we don't want to map so many print queue from the AS).
    So, I try to generate the report to a text file, then use webutil to transfer the txt file to the client PC, and then use Client_HOST to call the window PRINT command to print the text file to the client side printer.
    I have test this is successful, however, when I try to do the same thing to a report with Vietnam character, then it is not.
    The print request is sent to the printer, but the printer have no response.
    But that file can be print successfully if I open in Notepad and then print manually.
    I try to use window TYPE command and COPY command, but still have no luck.
    Can anyone give me some suggestions for this....
    Thanks!
