Emca: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range...

Hi,
this is Suse Professional 9.2 and Oracle 10.1.0.3.
When we try to start emca to configure the enterprise manager manually, we get the error message:
SEVERE: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range for the following process(es): JMS [5540-5559],RMI [5520-5539],Database Control [5500-5519],EM agent [1830-1849]
But those ports are not in use...
Anyone experienced the same thing?

Hi,
I'm joining this thread late as I've just encountered the same problem.
None of the ports specified in the error message are in the etc/services file, and none of them are in use according to netstat either. sysctl.conf and ip_local_port_range are both correct too.
SEVERE: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range for the following process(es): JMS [5540-5559],RMI [5520-5539],Database Control [5500-5519],EM agent [1830-1849]
Werner Puschitz has something about this on his Suse installation page in the Troubleshooting section (http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10gOnSUSE.shtml ) , but is does not seem to have got into his Red Hat page:
The problem is that ports listed in /etc/services are discounted.
The workaround is to specify the ports manually, see emca -h.
Use the following options and use the port ranges as specified in the above error message:
emca -RMI_PORT <port> -JMS_PORT <port> -AGENT_PORT <port> -DBCONSOLE_HTTP_PORT <port>
so it may be worth giving that a try.

  • Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following....

    Hi,
I'm attempting to install oracle 10.2.0 on Solaris 10.
When I create a database i get the error:
Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following process(es): .....
So I look at the logs and there looks like to be some configuration issues but i'm not sure where to start.
I've changed the port from NULL to 1521 in listener.ora.
It worried me that it was set to null.
Ive tried running emca -config -all db ( not sure what central agent home should be set it as /app/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_1 seemed to accept that)
This gives me the same above error.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Please note im both a novice solaris and oracle user

  • Oracle 11g install failure, error, Failed to allocate port(s)

I'm having a very hard time reinstalling Oracle 11gR1 x64 bit after the hard drive where I first installed it failed and had to be replaced. The database I'm trying to setup is for personal use on this system only. I'm running Windows XP professional 64 bit edition and have .net framework version 1.1.4322.573 installed.
During installation the process hangs at the Database Configuration Assistant stage and will not progress till I manually end the lsnrctl.exe process in taskmanager. During the completing database process at the end I get this error -
    SEVERE: Failed to allocate port(s) in the specified range(s) for the following process(es): JMS [5540-5559],RMI [5520-5539],Database Control [5500-5519],EM Agent [3938] | [1830-1849]
My first thoughts were the ports in question were in use or closed but I've been using both netbios and a port monitor program called currports to check and as far as I can tell the ports listed are open and not in use.
I did reconfigure the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files to include valid port addresses (1521) and I can get the lsnrctl.exe to start manually now but still can't connect to the database using an open SQL command prompt.
I also tried running the emca.bat but still no change. I need help, I'm beating my head against the wall now.

  • How to solve? RangeError: Error #1506: The specified range is invalid.

I complie a c library with alchemy, there are some errors in a function, and the flash traces:
"RangeError: Error #1506: The specified range is invalid."
I have set the CLibInit as global, only call the init() function ONCE as other said, but it didn't work.
I think that maybe the reason is out of heap/stack memory in some c functions???
    or..??
    Help me !!!
    How to solve it...!!!
    Thank you

This error is result of accessing an invalid memory pointer.  You have likely corrupted alchemy, or are accessing an uninitialized or null pointer.
I'm not sure if this also happens in the case of a link problem.  The linker does not complain if methods are missing.  But, I thought that was a different error.

}Works great in Linux/Windows XP/Vista, however, on the Apple 10.5.2+ JAva 1.6 build, it unfortunately spits out a "Failed to allocate native stream" in the catch block. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Just a bad Apple JRE?

  • "Could not authenticate the specified user" error in HFM 9.2.1

    Hi,
I'm installing Hyperion 9.2.1, and I have installed and configured shared service and hfm successfully, but when I failed to create hfm application.
    The reproduce step is:
    1. login http://hostname/hfm/Home/LaunchPage.asp, with admin/password
    2. click a cluster, and click "create applcation", it failed with error:
Could not authenticate the specified user. %0
    Error Reference Number: {184D6C1E-94C5-4722-93B0-15D88871485B}
And error in the log file is:

    at com.hyperion.hfm.security.Authentication.AuthenticateUserInternal(Unknown Source)

Have you ever met this issue?
    Thanks,
    Xinying

    Hi J,
    Thanks for your response.
<<1. The user with you are logging in HFM is used for configuring HFM
My OS is windows 2003 server, I installed and ran configurator of shared service and hfm with the OS user "administrator".
And I can login shared service with "administrator", but I met issue when creating hfm application. Also can login hfm" with admin/password" , but has same issue for creating application. Seems user is not checked when loging hfm.
<<2. This user is able to log on to Shared Services and is provisioned for creating HFM application
I can login shared service with user "admin/password".
But when clicking "provision" for user "admin", I can only find "shared service" role, no any hfm role.
    user "administrator"
<<3. This user is used in Server and web configuration of HFM
In server and web configuration, I set the DCOM domain user as: hostname\administrator
In my setup, two users are used,
1st one is OS user: administrator
2nd user is: admin ( seems it is the default user after installation and configuration of Shared service?)
    Thanks,
    Xinying

Essentially what we are trying to do is the following.
we have different kinds of objects in our baseline. Objects of type CAO, Exposures, Limits that change everyday after close of business day.
We wanted to push these different objects in to respective named regions in the cache.
    Region Name     Objects
    CAO                   ienumerable<caos>
    Exposures           ienumerable<exposures>
    Limits                ienumerable<limits>
we have a producer that pushes this data in to the cache and consumers of this data acting on the data when its available.
Now the issue we are facing is when we try to push around 4000 cao objects (roughly in the size of 300MB when serialized using xml) ,we are getting the above error. Increasing the size on the client and cache cluster didnt help.
The other alternative we were thinking about is chunking and pushing because appfabric doesnt support streaming. We might be able to push this data successfuly if we chunk. But how about the consumers ? wouldnt they face the same memory issue when we use
    getallobjectsinregion ?
We thought if there was a way to figure out the keys in the region then probably the consumers can get one by one. However there is no such API.
The only option i see is using Appfabric notifications which msdn says isnt a reliable way.
    Please help.

  • Under heavy load the server fails to listen on the specified port

              Hi,
I am running Weblogic 6.1 SP4 on a solaris. There are 2 machines in the cluster.
My weblogic server is listening on port 10001.The server started fine and is able
to service requests. When there are large number of requests
coming to the server I get this error on the server log file.
"Failed to listen on port 10001, failure count: 2, failing for 1,046,226,062 seconds,
              java.net.SocketException: Too many open files"
The log here shows ultimately the server has succeded to listen on port 10001
"After having failed to listen, the server is now listening on port 10001" but
sometimes it keeps on giving the message
"Failed to listen on port 10001, failure count: 2, failing for 1,046,226,062 seconds,

and never successfully listens on the specified port.

In /etc/system, set 'rlim_fd_max' the following property to a high level and reboot
              box.
              example: set rlim_fd_max=10240 in /etc/system.
After this check the weblogic start up log messages for the number of file descriptors
used and also run the solaris 'pfiles' on the weblogic pid to check the fd.

    Thank you for your help,

    Hi xtanto,
You may not have set up the privileges for running on a port less than 1024 (i.e. port 80) in your old back-uped tar-file.
Please check Chapter 8 "Running webcached with Root Privilege" in the Web Cache Admin document.

  • One or more ports used by the Compute Emulator are currently used by other processes

    Environment:
    VS 2012 Professional
    Azure SDK October 2012
    Windows 8
I lost the last few days of my life struggling with a weird issue in the emulator. I just ran out of options and I would really appreciate if someone could help me figure out what's wrong.
I am trying to debug a service package from Visual Studio 2012. It's really just about any package -- even the ones generated from a Windows Azure Cloud Service VS template. Any. The VS debugger starts, and in parallel there's "Starting the Windows Azure Debugging
Environment" dialog which shows "Deploying service package to the Windows Azure compute emulator..." message.
The progress bar shown in the dialog gets stuck for a long time (possibly even for an hour or longer!) at some 60% and then the following error message is shown:
"One or more ports used by the Compute Emulator are currently used by other processes. To resolve this, please see MSDN documentation at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh472164.aspx"
There doesn't seem to be anything else listening on the ports mentioned on the above MSDN page. I did nevertheless try to re-map devfabric and agent ports by specifying different values in the .config files mentioned on the page, but that did not help.
What I also tried and did not help:
    - reinstalled SDK, IIS Express, Local DB
    - reinstalled VS 2012 (yes, I got that desperate)
    - tried using IIS instead
    - used SysInternals TcpView to check if there are any conflicts
    - rebooted the machine: the deployment works initially (*once*), and the subsequent deployments fail (!)
    - tried to kill all Azure-related processes in memory and restart debugging
    - tried looking into log files under the user directory (dftmp\...); no errors in *any* log
    - tried looking into Event Viewer logs (Azure-related and in general); no errors either
Since the conflict seems to be related to my current network settings, below is my IP
configuration. I am behind a router and I have DHCP activated, but again that should not matter since none of that has changed in the last few years (and the emulator did work until few days ago).

    Thanks in advance for help!

    Hi,
Unfortunately I already tried all kinds of re-installs (the full list is in my original message). The only one remaining is the reinstall of Windows 8 itself, which I would really like to avoid.
What I find really strange is the time it takes for the above error message to appear. It's like one hour or even more (never measured exactly, I left the computer running).
What kind of a timeout is that? I would expect that, if ports are really used by some other application, I get the message in less than a minute (seconds, actually). To me this looks like the emulator itself for some reason believes there's a problem with
some port while in reality there isn't.
I'll eventually contact Microsoft Support, thanks for the suggestion.
