"Emegency Mode" Woes

Alright, here's the deal:
My mother's iPhone 2G was stuck in a pseudo-recovery/emergency call mode after dropping her phone from a very short distance.
Even when sliding to enter emergency call mode, it'd hang on every keypress..and sometimes it would actually boot into the iPhone phone app as if nothing happened. But upon hitting the home or lock button, it'd bump back to the emergency screen.
At the lockscreen, hitting the information button would reveal an unknown ICCID and IMEI. iTunes refused to touch it as well, saying "The iphone "iPhone" cannot be used with itunes because the information required."
Can anyone explain this and/or tell me how I could possibly fix it? Thanks in advace!
-ZeroShift

Turn the phone off, take out the SIM, clean off the contacts, put it back in, turn the phone on again
If that doesn't work... sounds like you damaged something.

  • CS5 no longer opens in 32bit mode.

I ran MacKeeper the onter day and it actually fixed all my woes, however, when I went to open Photoshop, it only opens in 64bit mode.  Could be a coinsidence.
I quadroople checked that it is selected to open in 32bit mode in the "Get info" window and re-booted many times, but I can't get Photoshop to open in 32bit mode.
I was hoping that there is something I am missing before I have to reinstall.
Thanks for the help, if there is any to be had!

I have heard via private message from an old acquaintance, Ramón Castañeda, that MacKeeper (possibly AKA Mac Defender) may be a form of malware, and he suggests visiting the following links:

  • After Updating the iOS 7.04 on my iPhone 4s drain battery quickly on standby mode & also doesn't respond volume up button, why?

After Updating the iOS 7.04 on my iPhone 4S drain battery quickly even on standby mode & also doesn't respond volume up button, why?

My battery problem woes continues to persist.  Yesterday, I had about 85-90% battery life in the morning.  A couple hours later when I looked at the phone it was down to 65%.  At that point, I shut off wi-fi, bluetooth, and background app refresh.  I received one call shortly after that.  The call lasted about two minutes.  My battery was now down to 40%.  Another hour later, down to 16%!  Here's the kicker:  I plugged in the phone to a charger and it jumped to 65% in a matter of minutes.  I unplugged the phone and within a couple of hours it was back down to around 30%.  I plugged it in again and within 10 minutes it was up to 75%.
At first glance it looks very much like a hardware issue.  However, I never had this problem until I upgraded to 7.0.4.  Also, the above battery roller coaster ride isn't a constant.  That is, it seems that only sometimes this happens.  So...I'm thinking it's either an app running in the background eating up juice (though I have Background App Referesh turned off) or the iOS is buggy.

  • IPad 3rd Gen charging woes

I have an iPad (3rd gen) 64GB (WIFI +4G) and been having following prob from day 1.
When I plug my new iPad into power to charge it, because it's getting low on battery, I continue to use while it's charging. I notice that the battery percentage indicator keeps dropping instead of slowly rising like my iPad 2 did. The battery keeps dropping while plugged into power until it powers off completely. This is crazy.
I could use my ipad2 indefinitely if it was plugged into power. Now, I can't use my new iPad with it plugged in before it runs out of power!
When I leave it overnight to charge, I have noticed that it stops charging by itself around 70 or 50%. Shows not charging when I pick it up in the morning.
Iam an ardent user of apple products and am disappointed by these charging woes. Maybe u guys need to provide us with a higher capacity charger than the 10W one.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • 10.5.5 update for airport woes

A quick look around the various sections of these usergroups shows that 10.5.5 hasn't done much for most people that have airport woes BUT I can report that for me at least, 10.5.5 has cleared up all of my airport reconnection problems. A sure way to send my Macbook into a "password request infinite loop" used to be when I took my Macbook too far away from my airport express, when I brought it back in range it would require a shutdown, same when I closed the lid or it went to sleep by itself, getting it to find the airport again would require a shutdown (mind you iStumbler coud see the express the whole time)
So Apple must be doing something as my reconnection problems seem to have vanished with 10.5.5
Now they just need to figure out why my wireless sensitivity is now about 25% of what it used to be before I installed 10.5.2!
    Mark

    Worked great for me.
Have you repaired permissions with Disk Utility, tried resetting the PRAM or starting up in Safe Mode.
Reset PRAM - hold down Option-Command-P-R keys when starting until you hear the startup chime a 2nd time.
Safe Mode Startup - hold down the Shift-key at startup until you see the login screen.
Check your System Preferences after each - reselect your startup disk and reselect your wireless network (even if showing OK).
If the above does not work then a factory reset of your AEB might be in order. The setup manuals for all AEBs are here: http://support.apple.com/manuals/#airport

  • Boot up woes!!!

Hi, I've just built a new PC, previousely with an Asus motherboard which I had to send back. I now have a new MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R which I have just fitted.
My story of woes is as follows:
Fitted the MSI motherboard with a Maxtor SATA hard drive which already has windows XP pro installed from the previous build with the Asus board (which worked fine for a couple of days).
When I started up the system for the first time, the maxtor drive went up in smoke so I turned off the system. Maxtor drive is now dead, but i swapped the power supply just in case. I now have an old 5200 RPM Samsung hard drive attached to the IDE plug on the motheroboard (also with windows XP installed). The board still works thankfully, but will not boot up windows XP. I've tried swapping the boot order (tried all combinations) and tried auto detect in the BIOS. It does detect the Samsung hard drive but I get a bleep, another bleep then a screen saying "sorry for the inconvenience blah blah" and then options saying "boot in Safe mode", "start windows normall" and suchlike. Whenever I select any of them, it just goes back into POST and back to the above screen again.
I have also tried loading the drivers from the floppy disks and the CD but to no avail. I get error saying "non system disk" or "disk error".
I am now at a loss as to what to do! please help!!
    Most thanks for any replies

    Thanks for the replies everybody
Ok, I'm fairly new to this game having only built two PC's before! How do I go about clearing the CMOS?!!! and what is CMOS? sorry if I sound a bit stupid! I will check the connections again (going to re-build from the ground up anyway). I found a burn/scorch on the maxtor drive on one of the chips so its dead! will be getting a new drive next week under warranty.
    Thanks again everyone!

please please if some one have a solution that i would not need to reset my ipad... i will send him some kind of a gift

We can go on and start the blame game all night long. Apple does not live here and will remain oblivious to your woes, this is a user to user forum. Apple's lawyers, should you wish to pursue a legal claim, would point out that nobody from the company forced you to do anything on the device. You're welcome to express your displeasure thru a channel they will listen to: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
As for Over The Air, it is a fine and dandy quick way, provided everything is perfect. The device has no issues, the communications medium is flawless throughout the process and nothing interferes with it once it starts. It is atomic: one shot, can't be interrupted or else. And since the installer weights in at around 1.3-1.5 GB depending on the model, unless you have a stellar Internet connection, the process will take awhile. This is a window of vulnerability, during which failure can occur. Plus, OTA only backs up onto iCloud, meaning just the most important parts of the device contents. If it fails, you will have to reconstruct the device from the various bits and pieces.
On iTunes, the compute (which has much greater computing resources) handles the download and will only proceed until it has come across flawlessly, the device is securely backed up locally and there are absolutely no issues with it. Plus, the whole process is validated step by step with automatic auto-recovery.
    Good night and good luck.

  • Keyboard/safe mode problems?

    Hi
I am looking for some help.  My keyboard suddenly stopped working properly, for instance the letter A would not work along with the numbers along the top row.  I decided to shut the computer down and re-start in the hope this was just a 'glitch' but when I restarted the problem is still appearing.  To now add to the woes, my Mac is password protected and I am unable to even access the computer now as my password contains some of the letters not working.
I have tried putting the computer into safe mode, which doesn't seem to be working.  I have also put the install discs in and pressed C and still nothing appears other than the password entry panel.
Can anyone offer some help?  Many thanks in advance!

Likely you'll need another Keyboard, at least to test.

  • Target Disk Mode Stuck on FireWire logo

    Hi guys,
I have been having major issues with my MacBook Pro that I bought in late 2009. It suddenly crashed one day and did not boot ever since. The white screen with the  apple logo and the spinning thingy in the bottom was all I could see I can see. I wanted to at least recover my data before I handed it in to the Apple Store for repair. I managed to connect the MBP to my iMac through the Target Disk Mode using a FireWire 800 cable. It transferred about 40% of the content of my MBP onto my iMac and then suddenly started hanging. The FireWire logo on my MBP stopped moving ever since. The folder of my MBP HD appears on m iMac but when I try to open it the iMac hangs. Tried every possible startup trick including Option-Command PR and a bunch of other stuff and nothing has worked. I really want to recover all my files. I don't have the CDs my MBP came with. Please help! :(
    Pit

If the MBP gets into Target Mode, at least the logic board isn't fried. But the HDD may be damaged and be the cause of your woes. Once it is connected to the iMac and the MBP's volume appears on the desktop, have you tried repairing it with the iMac's Disk Utility or even stronger stuff like DiskWarrior?
When that gets sorted out, either cause the disk was repairable or you had to put in a new one, you will have to purchase a boxed version of Snow Leopard to reinstall since you don't have the MBP's install DVDs.

  • I tried to install latest OS update. Recd error installing. IT tried to load the upgrade in Safe Mode. Now system will not boot up. IT says I have to do a clean install which loses all data.

After receiving an error when I try to install the latest update of OS-X, I took my laptop to oour schools IT dept. They tried to run the update in safe mode and then they got an error saying the system could not find the hard drive. Now they want to run a clean install which loses 1000's of docs and pictures. I have Block I exams in med school next Monday and all of my notes and slides are on that hard drive.
The IT dept took the hard drive out and tried to back it up and they said they other computer could not connect or find my hard drive.
    Major panic....
I have Norton antivirus and have never found any viruses on the system. I also have a program called ExamSoft which some other students here have noted they had similar crashes. Not sure if that is the issue...

    Several take home messages here:
always back up before you update.
always back up anything you don't want to lose. Kind of like flossing. Only floss the teeth you don't want to lose.
Norton is very, very bad software, and you should get rid of it.
You don't need antivirus software on your mac. Antivirus software on macs causes more trouble than it is worth.
Your hard drive may be failing and thus may not be salvageable.
You could try booting into the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair your hard drive.
If that doesn't work, then there is a small chance that a third party utility (like Disk Warrior or TechTool) might be able to fix your drive (if it is not failing).
If that doesn't work, you may be able to send your drive and a lot of cash to a drive recovery service and see if they can get your files off it.
In the mean time, get notes and slides from a (smart) friend.

  • Running Dual boot windows 8 and win 7 pro with xp mode installed!! I love it!!

It took over 2 days to figure out how to adjust the bios to get my win 7 pro DVD to boot and install dual boot on this GREAT MACHINE!!
Step 1: using diskmgmt.msc you have to shring the C partition. I shrunk it so I had 80GB remaining as unallocated space.
Step 2: You have to enter the machine Bios adn set the BIOS to Both and UEFI as first
Step 3: Connect your usb dvd
Step 4: Put your win 7 pro dvd in the usb dvd drive
Step 5: Reboot your machine and when it starts press F12 to get the boot menu and select the usb dvd drive then press enter
    The machine restarts
Message on screen says press a key to boot from cd/dvd
Press space and it boots up the win 7 pro DVD
After files copy and load the setup screen asks to accept the agreement and where to install win 7
BE SURE TO SELECT THE 80GB location
Then follow thru the win 7 prompts to load it.
When the machine restarts you will see a dual boot screen with Windows 7 on top as first selection and Windows 8 below it as 2nd selection.
Make sure to hit enter with windows 7 selected
    The win 7 installation completes.
You will see many items with drivers not installed dont fret.
You can load most of the drivers by highlighting the device in control panel/device manager and pick update driver then select BROWSE for DRIVER and be sure to put in drive D:\ which is now the windows 8 drive and hit search.
Many of the windows 8 drivers installed with no issue.
The Realtek driver was an exception .. goto to the lenovo site and pick the x100e tablet and download the LAN driver from there  about (4MB). Copy it to flash drive and install it in win 7 from the .exe file. The driver for LAN will install sucessfully. The version of the driver is 7.46 something the 7.11 versions do not workl.
I have only 3 drivers that I could not find - 2 list as unknown and are related to ACPI or power management and 1 lists as USB controller but all the USB stuff works without it.
Be sure to either shutdown the system or sign out of win 8 when your done so you get the dual boot menu. If you shutdown while logged into win 8 the next time you start up it will go right to win 8 until you signout and restart.
Just to let you know an easy way to shutdown is go to the desktop and press ALT + FN + F4 and a shutdown menu comes up on the desktop.
Once win 7 pro is installed you can download the XP mode free from Microsoft and install it.
This is of course AFTER you have ACTIVATED WINDOWS 7 ONLINE with YOUR ACTIVATION KEY(you supply).
ENJOY! This is the BEST machine I ever had!

It's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

I have a database of about 50 records I can view the data in list mode but when I switch to Browse the page turns grey. I trashed the preferences but no improvement.
    Any help?

    Hello
    - 1 - AppleWorks will NOT be updated. It will be replaced by iWork.
    - 2 - If you wish, you may attach your file to a mail and send it to:
koenig then a dot then yvan then an @ then tele2 then a dot then fr
If you do, I will be able to look if the file is working well on another machine.
So you will know if the oddity is to be searched in your machine itself.

yes i want all the decorations. Then I have no idea what you are tying to do. Why are you getting rid of the title bar?
Dragging is supported automatically by clicking on and then dragging the title bar. If you want to customize the behaviour then you would need to look at the UI. Good luck.
