"emergency mode" & picture of a usb cable & itunes icon-legally activated
Hey- this is a legally unlocked phone. I have my ATT account with sim card since August.
I went to sync phone and prompted to update phone- which I did.
I have NO illegal anything on my phone or 3rd party APPs.
Please- what is this? Everything I find on this is about people who unlocked their phone illegally.
I read somewhere that to just leave it - that the software is just loading????
I have left it an hour now- and its not showing in iTunes. I restarted as well and nothing.
I have USB plugged in back of Mac -not a hub.
Anybody have good news????

Thank you both for info. Yes- I meant to say 'activated'- so sry.
I unplugged iPhone from its doc- plugged USB directly into the phone itself and then pressed the menu and sleep button for like 30 seconds. Restarted iTunes- and it worked.
It came back on saying 'Phone Activated'. Of course it was 'activated' already but maybe due to update it says this again??
I dont really care- I am just SOOOOOOO happy all is well again!!!

i was updating it and now i have to restore it due to a problem that i dont know.. and i cant restore it eithe it show on the screen of a usb and an itunes icon.
it want you to connect it to your computer and have itunes open on your computer

You are in Recovery Mode. Follow the instructions below to recover your iPad.
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button.
5. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad. Data will be lost. -
I have just tried to update my iphone 4 to iso 6, it got almost all the way through then froze. the only screen i get now is with the itunes icon and picture of a usb cable end. I can turn it on and off but not reboot or do anything else. Further more the computor now does not recognise the phone being connected/disconnected. Help please!

Its trying to tell you to connect it by usb to a computer to reflash a failed firmware flash

Well the answer I gave you didn't solve the problem. Is the USB cable and the iTunes logo still on the iPod screen? You could start the "fixing process" by rebooting your computer, connect the iPod again, launch iTunes and see if anything happens.

I plugged my iPhone 4 into my computer with the USB charger cable, and the screen went blank and came up with a picture of the usb cable with an arrow pointing to iTunes....Can anyone help get this fixed????

Your iPhone is telling you you need to restore it using iTunes on a computer. Follow the instructions below.

Then I noticed the previous owners User ID on the Apple log in and thought i should delete all info and start clean. I have been relatively patient - 3 hours on charge but all it does is show picture of USB cable and itunes logo. It it were charging you would think that a picture of the charge would come up to indicate status of charge - wouldn't you think?

You'll want to completely restore the device using iTunes.

Keep in mind, at this point anything you had on the iPad you did not backup to iCloud or your computer is most likely lost.
