EMET 5.1 crashes all protected applications on Lenovo m91p PCs with enabled VT and TxT

Until last week we successfully used EMET 5.0 on all our PCs.
After upgrading to EMET 5.1 all EMET-protected applications crash
on all our Lenovo m91p PCs when VT-d and TxT is enabled.
The protected applications do not start at all, no balloon-tip or errordialog is shown, only Eventlog shows what happened:

Some facts we figured out:
Tested (crashing) applications for example: Internet Explorer 11, Word 2010, Excel 2010, Firefox 31 ESR, ...
OS is Windows 7 x64 SP1 Enterprise
It doesn't matter if it was an upgrade from EMET 5.0 to EMET 5.1 or reinstalling the PC and doing a fresh install of EMET 5.1 on a fresh machine.
Before Installing EMET 5.1 we used EMET 5.0 on the identically configured Machines (VT + TxT enabled) and there was no problem at all - the Problem is caused by EMET 5.1 and wasn't there with EMET 5.0
Problem disappears if we disable VT in the BIOS of the Lenovo m91p Machines, but this is not a Solution as we depend on using VT for virtualization-purposes.
Lenovo m91p PCs are equipped with: Intel Core i5-2400CPU, 8GB RAM, Onboard-SandyBridge Intel HD Graphics 2000, Mainboard: Lenovo IS6XM Rev.01, Intel Sandy Bridge rev.09, Intel Q67 rev. B3
Other Dell-Notebooks we use (EMET configured identically) don't show this problem, even if VT and TXT is enabled.
Basically we use the EMET Configuration "Popular Software.xml" which is included in the EMET 5.1 MSI Package, additionally we configure
DEP=ApplicationOptOut ASLR=ApplicationOptIn SEHOP=ApplicationOptOut Pinning=Enabled
and enable AdvancedRopSettings DeepHooks=True AntiDetours=True BannedFunctions=True
Additional Information:
TxT (Trusted Execution Technology) is a sub-feature of VT-d in the Bios of the Lenovo m91p PCs, when disabling VT it also disables TxT. We just figured out that we can leave VT turned on but have to disable TxT to get the machines with EMET 5.1 working
again. BUT: It's not an easy solution for us to disable TxT in BIOS on all machines. And as everything worked fine with EMET 5.0 we really think this problem should be solved by an EMET Patch.

I'm also experiencing the same issue as the OP, however I'm experiencing this on Lenovo M90p desktops with Windows 7 professional.  I was previously running EMET 4.1 and upgraded to 5.1 recently.  I cannot reproduce this on a Lenovo M92p with Windows
8.1 Enterprise, nor a Lenovo X1 Carbon with Windows 7 enterprise.

If you have a external USB enclosure - trying installing your hard drive in that enclosure and connect it to your usb port - restart your macbook while holding down the options key.  If you Macbook boots to your desktop then you have a faulty cable.  If you get the same error, then your hard drive just died on you.
    good luck.

Can you still boot to the Recovery partition using Command and R whilst booting? Or did you wipe the Recovery partition as well?
If your Recovery partition is still intact, you can simply boot to it and reinstall the OS via the Internet. If you wiped the Recovery partition, you can hold down Command, option and R keys whilst booting and boot into true Internet Recovery mode. You'll be able to reformat the hard drive, erasing all partitions (format it as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" with a dingle GUID partition) and then reinstall the OS that shipped with your machine.
Note that you should use a physical Ethernet connection when restoring over the Internet - it's three times slower if you use wifi.
Try your Recovery partition first and if that doesn't work, use Internet Recovery.

  • Why, after disabling all add-ons to correct a problem with Norton, am I unable to re-install Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396, even though all 7 applications in the "Containing Folder" are enabled?

mynortonaccount.com web page began coming up whenever I would go on line. Norton email support gave me steps to follow using my Firefox browser, in the safe mode, to disable all add-ons and reset user preferences to Firefox defaults.
Since then, although trying about 15 times, I have been unable to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396 so that it functions.
From the "Re-initializing the plugins database" article, and progressing to the "Open Containing Folder," but unable to select File and Exit menu, I did locate "Adobe Acrobat" version 10.0.0.396
which showed all seven applications "enabled." This problem is with Firefox only. Internet Explorer functions normally.

If you want adobe acrobat pdf files to open in firefox you need an acrobat plugin, have you checked that is installed and enabled.

When I turn on Messages, I can't see my messages.  All I can see is a screen with horizontal lines.  How can I get the regular Messages screen back?

The same is happening for me. Today I decided to reboot my PC because it was acting up a bit, go figure, and then for some reason at the same time the PC was restarting my macbook froze. I had to do a reboot with the restart button but then all that came up was a gray background and in the middle of the screen was a darker gray folder with a white question mark in the middle of it, blinking. I can't imagine why the restart would've affected my macbook. After finding information on how to fix this, I tried all of the steps that were given about using the mac OS X disk to use the first aid utility to fix it. When using the Disk Utility option whenever I select my hardrive and am in the First Aid tab, the only button I can use is the Verify Disk Permissions. The other three buttons, and namely the most important Repair Disk button, is/are not selectable (grayed out). I then tried resetting the PRAM the way they also said with the command + option + P + R and waited for the second startup sound. After that I gave the Disk Utility a second try, but still nothing. And now if I try to just reinstall the OS completely I can't even select a destination volume on the third step (Select Destination). Apparently this means i'm SOL.

  • Illustrator CC 2014 crashes all the time after installing Yosemite 10.10 - why?

    Hi there,
as said above my IA crashes all the time.
I am working with Creative Cloud and latest OSX version (Yosemite 10.10). A few days ago I chatted with a team member of Adobe but all recommended was to install a complete new Admin on my MacBook Pro. That would take me almost two days to install and configure all my stuff from the scratch.
    Illustrator crashes when ...
I open a ai-file from InDesign to edit it. The splash screen loads but then this appears
It's german, but you all know what it says: "Unexpected failure - ignore / try again / send to apple" If you click on "Send to apple" it loks like this:
I sent it a thousand times to Apple, but haven't heard anything yet.
I open IA regular from the dock
    splash screen appears
everything's fine till you click anything (e.g. CMD+N)
    then it crashes immediately
    What I already did
    reinstall IA
    reinstall complete suite
cleaned all folders belonging to Adobe
    start in safe mode
Thanks for reading all this stuff.
Hopefully anyone has an idea what I can do.
Wisdom of the crowd - here we go.
    Best,
    Janina

    Dear adobe & community,
only a few weeks later - it crashes again...
    Yosemite 10.10.2
    AI latest version
    MacBook Pro (Retina, 13", 2013)
I read all support tickets. I checked if there is a drivers for my Wacom (nope). I installed a new admin (AI crashes as well). I updated Java again (no help)
I have no idea what to do.
    This is what happening:
    - I click on the AI icon
    - AI opens with the welcome screen
    - Yosemite 10.10.2 / AI newest version (Creative Cloud)
    - whatever I click there it crashes and comes up with the following error message (sorry in advance for all the code)

  • OS X crashes all the time...

I have a 60 days old iMac 24. During the last 40 days or so I have been facing many OS crashes in different situations and working with different programs: Lightroom (when importing pictures from a SD card or importing large quantities of photos from an external hard disk), mail (once, when selecting the send to mail address from the list), in safari (once when opening a large number of pages in different tabs - 30 or so-), twice in Parallels (after installation when I selected to register the software from the pop up window and later when starting Windows XP from the VM - I got a grey screen with a OS crash message-). In all cases the app I was working with stopped working and I was unable to go back to the finder for a Force Quit of the program. Therefore, I had to restart the iMac from the power button. In same cases, the OS got corrupted and I was forced to make a new clean installation of the OS. Last week, the hard disk died and I took the iMac to the Apple Tech Distributor in my city. They change the Hard Disk and I thought that finally all the problems had been solved. Unfortunately, yesterday I got a new crash when trying to register a new installation of Parallels. When I clicked the register software button, I saw the safari became active (black arrow in the dock) but it did not opened. Parallels crashed. As usual, the Finder was not responsive so I had to restart the iMac with the power button again. During the first try, the iMac was unable to load the OS (I got the grey screen with the apple but the OS did not start to load). Y restarted the iMac again with the power button and I successfully loaded the OS. Unfortunately, some apps were not working (iTunes for instance) so I decided to make another clean installation on the OS.
This is my first mac after a many years working with Windows. I decided to switch because I was tired of having to install Windows every 6 months in my pc. Unfortunately, my experience with the iMac has been very problematic. I find the OS very unreliable. Every time I am working with the iMac I am holding my breath not to have another freeze of the system.
I do not understand how an app crash can freeze the OS. I have never had such problems with Windows XP. With Windows I could experience an app crash (rarely) but I could always force quit the application and restart the pc from the OS.
I don't think that this behavior is normal. I am sure OS X is a very stable and reliable piece of software. This is why I am so confused about my iMac behavior. I have the feeling that there is a hardware problem somewhere but I don't know what can be. I have run Apple Hardware test but it did not detect any problem in the memory or the logic board.
When I explained my situation to Apple Care, their answer was "not to install Adobe Lightroom". This is not acceptable to me as I don't think Lightroom is the source of the problem. I know some people working with Lightroom in macs without any crash. Besides, Adobe Lightroom can not explain the crashes in Parallels, Safari and Mail. Again, I am not talking about an app crash but and app crash that causes the OS to crash too.
Any idea about what is going on here?.
Could the iMac have a hardware problem that causes all this?. Could the hardware problem go undetected by the Apple Hardware Test?.
Thank you for your help on this.
    iMac 24   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    fgarciab,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and to the Mac family.
I understand your frustration, and I have a few suggestions for you as you go through the TS&D (Trouble Shooting & Diagnostics) process to attempt to identify this elusive culprit at work on your iMac.
First, I am not sure the machine is actually crashing as you say. Sometimes a pesky application will go haywire, but OS X is designed NOT to allow a renegade application to completely rob your system resources forcing you to do a hard shut down. You should NOT force your machine to shut down if at all possible, as this may cause directory damage.
If an application goes haywire and you lose temporary control over the mouse, you should still be able to switch back to the Finder in order to Force Quit the application. Have you tried Command-Tab (similar to Alt-Tab on the PC) when this happens? If this does not work, try Control-F2 to switch the focus to the menu bar. From there, you can use the arrow keys to open the Force Quit application under the Apple Menu. In some cases, I have had to Command-Tab to make the Finder active and also Control-F2 because the mouse was not responding.
Second, it seems to me that your problem could very well be a bad peripheral or (more likely) an application that is conflicting with other apps or with Tiger itself.
I do not have any experience with Adobe Lightroom or with running Windows through Parallels, but I think that one or both of those apps is your likely culprit, and I would take a hard look at both of them.
As others have already suggested, I would create a new user account in System Preferences. Once you create a new account, I would log in as the new user and begin to install your applications one at a time, testing thoroughly each application after installation. You should also ALWAYS repair your disk permissions with Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) after each install. It's also a good idea to re-start the machine each time you install new software, even if the application installer (if there is one) does not require you to do so.
Eventually, as you install your apps one at a time in the new user's account, you should be able to replicate the "crash." At that point, you should have a good indication of which app is causing the problem. If you absolutely can't live without that particular application, I suggest you contact the software developer's website for additional support.
    Good luck!
    Thomas

  • HT204088 I bought $10 worth of gems in a game (Eternity warriors 2) and then realized the game crashes ALL the time, i'd like a refund but don't know how.

Like i said i bought some gems and then realized this game has major problems even after there update crashing all the time laggy sometimes wont load it's terrible and i want a refund, please help.

The main problem is that you made the first and second slot machine to pay out 2 quarters after 3 games and the third machine pay out two quarters after two games. That is not what your assignment specified.
    SlotMachine firstSlotMachine = new SlotMachine (2,3);
    SlotMachine secondSlotMachine = new SlotMachine (2,3);
    SlotMachine thirdSlotMachine = new SlotMachine (2,2);
The second problem is that you never add the payout of a machine to Martha's number of quarters.
Look carefully at the way your professor implemented the game() method. If you think about it, what it returns is the net "gain" from playing a game. On jackpot it returns payOut -1 (jackpot less the one quarter Martha had to pay for the game), otherwise it returns -1 (Martha spends one quarter and wins nothing).
So what you can do is simply add the returned value to the number of quarters in the jar -
    quarters = <machine>.game();
    instead of quarters--.
