Emoticons in windows 8.1

Since upgrading my Nokia Windows phone to 8.1, every time I put an emoticon in a text message the gallery closes and I have to reopen it if I wish to send multiples. Help!

Since upgrade to 3.6.7 the emoticons window on a forum I use always opens full screen, not as a small window. How can I get it to open as a small screen again.

Since upgrading to 3.6.7, when I go to a forum I'm active on and click the emoticons icon in the reply box, the emoticons window opens full screen, and not as a small screen like it did before. I can click on the box to make it small again, but next time I open it, it's back to full screen. Ok, not a major problem, but really rather annoying. I've tried to find a way to get it back to opening the way it did before, but to no avail. Does anyone know how I can solve this little problem?

No-one got any ideas on this then? It's definitely a firefox problem, as when I open the forum page (mentioned in the OP) with Opera or Chrome, the emoticons window opens as a small window, same as FF used to before the upgrade.

Emoticon sign in chat window, what is yours?

I noticed that "emoticon" button in the chat window may be different, I saw it both with "smiling mouth" and with "upside down" mouth. I noticed that in different Skype clients on different machines and also on images published elsewhere like in reviews about Skype and how-to's.
"Upside-down" sign occurs not so often as "smiling". Why it differs and depends of what? I'm curious.
And what is your emoticon sign?

Windows update causing BSOD in my new B50-30 with DRIVER-IRQL error

Hi folks - I'm really hoping someone else has found a way to deal with a similar issue.
I bought a b50-30 about three weeks ago, and everything has been fine until the latest rounds of Windows updates. During the normal update blue screen, It got stuck (I gave it 24 hours just in case!) on "update 5 of 31", so I eventually had to force restart. That led to a blue screen with the annoying smiley emoticon for a frown, and it claimed to be "collecting some error I fo and then we'll restart for you" but it showed a 0% progress reading, which didn't change during the 12 hours I (patiently) let it run. The specific error message was DRIVER-IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL. Eventually I force-restarted a second time and went into Safe Mode, and the updates appeared to restart and make progress. Eventually the computer started normally again. Victory?
All was fine for a week, and then the bloody thing got stuck on the next round of infernal Windows updates, this time not getting past "28 of 61 updates". When I force restart, I get the BSOD with the same DRIVER-IRQL error message and the same 0% progress reading that won't make progress no matter how long I leave it. Unfortunately, this time, opening in safe mode won't work for me, as it merely brings me back to the identical BSOD screen. Now I have no way to restart the bloody thing at all (other than going for a full recovery, which I'm hoping to be able to avoid). I also tried the "refresh" function, which went through the percentage progress fully, but resulted in the same BSOD. Interestingly, it won't allow me to "restore".
Does anyone have any brilliant advice, other than throwing it out a window and never buying either Lenovo or Windows again?

Welcome to the Forums.
If you;re able to see the SSD in the BIOS and/or see it under Disk Management while using the stock HDD then you may want to consider the following:
1. Boot from the stock HDD and update the BIOS
BIOS Update Utility - Ideapad 305-15IBY, Lenovo B40-30, B50-30, B50-30 touch, E40-30 Laptops
2. Update the SSD's firmware to MU02 (latest as of this writing).

3. Using the stock HDD, connect the Crucial SSD and convert the volume to MBR first to see if there's a compatibility using the drive as GPT.
If none of the above methods works then there's likely a compatibility issue with the SSD's controller and/or the BIOS (similar to this thread). In this case, consider using a different brand (e.g., Samsung) and observe.

Windows randomly shutting down with new built pc

Morning folks, I'm typing this from my other laptop right now. I just built a tower for gaming and I'm having an issue with windows 8.1. It will randomly turn off anywhere from a minute or less after launching and logging in to 5 minutes after
launching and logging in. I can't seem to tell what's triggering it either. If I try to do anything a screen comes up with a sad face emoticon and tells me that something is wrong but I can never read the full message before the computer shuts
down completely. It's not a soft landing either it's as if I held down the power button. If you can tell me what information to give you I'll try my best. My concern is I won't be able to get error or crash logs because if I try to do anything
the computer shuts down. I'm currently sitting here not moving and letting it sit at desktop to see if anything happens. So far it seems stable to it's only when I'm actively doing stuff.
Concerns I've seen people bring up, yes it is a legal version of 8.1 and yes I did activate the product, I wasn't able to set up my wireless adapter before the computer would shut down so I had to activate it over the phone, it didn't crash during that.
From there I was able to install the wireless drivers successfully and actually access the internet. But as I was heading to a speedtest page the window came up and my computer shut down again. From there it has shut down multiple times after just
minutes of trying to get online and install a game.
I've gone into BIOS and disabled the fast boot that someone has mentioned and I changed my power settings to be on high performance and turned off the timed shutdowns/sleep/driver shut down. I don't think it was any of that though because, 1, it's
still happening and 2, those things were if it was shutting down after so long mine seems more random and in a much shorter time span.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
edit: I'm going to keep this updated, I'm at the moment installing my motherboards drivers/utilities. Apparently I forgot to do that from the disk. If that's the case and fixes it then I'll let you all know. I still need to install these
and whatever is on the disk saying 'afterburner' lol. This is my first time ever building a pc and I'm doing it with no help so bare with me. Took me all night to figure out I had a couple things wired wrong with the hard drive and a couple fans.

Okay so after installing the drivers and doing some updates after things were installed the computer ran well for a good few hours. In the mean time I was watching youtube and reading a different forum while I was downloading a game. A couple
hours in the computer BSOD'd again but this time I think it's more manageable as I was actually able to read what it said and it was the more common one saying an issue occurred, and your computer needs to restart and it is collecting data. It then shut
down very quickly as if it were a hard shut down and did not reboot on its own.
I'm going through the same actions again and waiting to see if it reoccurs or if it was a fluke. I don't have the DMP files at the moment because I had to change the setting after reading the guide because it the folder wasn't in windows. It
still isn't there after I made the changes and rebooted but I think that's because an incident hasn't happened yet in order to create the file. In the mean time I turned off fast boot as it seems to be a common instigator of the problem. I'll get
back to you if the problem arises again with the proper logs and dump files as it seems the computer is stable enough to actually navigate there now. Woo! Progress!

Emoticons Will not display with new version

Downloaded the new version, and now the (finger) and (wtf) emoticons will not display. Every single other one does display. Why is this happening? I have tried restarting my computer, and redownloading Skype itself. Is there any way to fix this? I know I have the emoticons display on because every one BUT those ones work.

These hidden emoticons indeed got removed with 6.14 because of them or their shortcodes having the potential to offend some users. A colleagues skype sent me above message and I thought he asked me to download it as I was just skyping with him and it popped up in the middle of our conversation! So I downloaded it thinking he sent me and voila, now I have some funny emoticons on the right panel of my skype screen and the above Message keeps popping up in ALL my conversations with people!
Help me to get rid of it please! i contacted Norton Antivirus customer service and they did some thorough *wash* but this thing still is there! And cannot be uninstalled either from program!

Can I use animated emoticons in mail?

I want to put an animated emoticons in my signature block in emails. I can put them in my signature block but they do not animate. How to use animated emoticons in mail? If so how do I get them to work?

You said you have a url link to the animated gif.
Open that link in Safari or Firefox or some other browser so that you are actually looking at the animated gif doing its thing.
Open Mail and go to Preferences > Signatures
Select a signature to edit or create a new one.
Edit the text as desired.
To add the animated gif drag the actual image from the browser window and drop it in to place in Mail's signature composing frame. Don't worry if it only displays as a [?] icon. When you do this, you aren't actually adding the image but are creating an HTML link to the file on the internet server.
Make sure you have added the signature to the account you will be using it with. You can drag the signature name (in the middle column) and drop it on the desired account in the left hand column.
If that is the only signature you have for that account, then when you start a new message it will automatically apear in the message. If you have multiple signatures you can select the one you want (or none) from the message's toolbar.

Using .Mac Emoticons

I downloaded the Emoticons offered on the .Mac site to be use with iChat 3V but not sure how to install them so that they are a part of a drop down menu when messaging? Does the reciever have to have the package installed as well? There were no instructions with the download (oversite) or at least an explanation clarifying how they could be installed/used. I tried dragging and dropping one from the folder to the textbox but that only sent a jpg file over that had to be opened in a separate window not embedded in the text message.

Hi Todd,
These are not Smilies in the normal sense.
Yes they can be installed instead if the normal pics.
Yes your Buddy will need to display as the same "smilie" at their end.
First you need to convert all the pics you want to use to .tifs
Then you need to open up the inside of the iChat app.
This is done by going to the Applications folder and clicking once on iChat
Then right (or Control) Click the app.
In the menu use Show Package Contents.
Navigate to Contents/Resources
In here you will see all pics that iChat uses including the smilies. All you have to do is change the names of the incomoing pics to match the current ones and then move them into the folder. (it will ask you if you want to replace them).
Note. You may want to make copies or move the current ones first.

Smiley Emoticons for a Mac?

I use Comcast high speed internet for my email and would like to know if there is a program install for my Mac like Windows has for emoticons that you can insert in emails. They have a program like smiley central but it is only for Macs.

Nope, Apple's Mail client can be used for eMail anywhere, I don't recommend .mac or .me even if they pay you to use it!

Always open window full screen

I have this app called SizeUp that allows me to use a key combo or mouse to make the window full screen, for all different types of apps I run on the Macbook pro. This does it's job well. What I really want is for all windows to do this by default when they open.
I plug in a second monitor several times a day and then unplug it several times a day to go mobile...maybe 15 times a day back and forth. Each time, for everyone of my apps, Word, Excel, Mail, Chrome, Calendar, Notes, I have to resize the window for everyone. I would guess all of this takes a bunch of my time each day and is definitely annoying.
Does anyone know of a way to get this done or an app that does it?

How to "hover" over a smiley / emoticon to determine its name

I have recently been transitioned from my Torch to the Z30. I'll spare my comments on the various frustrations. However, one minor item I haven't found an answer to is how to determine the name of a smiley / emoticon in BBM before inserting it. Previously, with the torch, I could scroll through the emoticons before selecting one. While scrolling, the name of the current emoticon would display without it having to be selected.
I can't figure out how to determine the name of an emoticon on my Z30, whether or not I have selected it. I can hit the backspace once I've selected/inserted it, which will give me the text representation, but that doesn't tell me, for example, what "=]Y" means. How do I determine the name of a smiley before inserting it so that I don't inadvertently pick the wrong one?

How can I make the emoticons smaller?

Hello, I just installed the new Skype update and immediately noticed that the emoticons are much bigger than before. Apart from that the other new features are great. So my question is - Is there a way I can revert back to the old emoticons because those new ones are clogging the chat window.

They think this is a feature that people actually like. Or will grow to like eventually. So they didn't provide a way to disable it. If you hate it as much as I do, use Skype v6.21.0.104, or if you actually like the new blue UI [Text removed] then 6.21.85.104 if you can find the installer somewhere.
