Employee Capitalization Across Multiple Projects
Hi,
We are implementing Capex Planning and trying to understand methods/ways to capture the employee costs working on multiple capitalizable Projects.
The available functionality only enable to capture employee cost at one project at one point of time.
Meaning thereby, the transfer in and transfer out functionality(Out of the Box) does not allow the Employee to be available on multiple projects at the same time and does not enable to distribute the employee cost between multiple projects in the same month.
Please help us in understanding how to achieve this in capex planning and what other businesses are doing for the same.
Thanks
Hi,
You can define a driver account FTE_% and provide a percentage based on cost division by project.
Then use allocation calculation/BR based on compensation/cost to divide the cost between projects.
You will have to change some formulas etc..
Cheers

How can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans?
I'm sure this simple and a pretty common operation but how can I share a *.java source file across multiple projects in NetBeans? Right now I keep cut, coping and pasting the same source file between multiple projects to re-use the same code. But I could I make this source file a library file or something like that so that I could access it from any project. I assume this would be a generic operation but I mentioned NetBeans for clarity. Thanks.

I've done such a thing in C using header files and such but I'm trying to get a direction on how this is accomplished in Java. I'm sorry if I could edit the title I would. If anyone wants to be specific about NetBeans I welcome that too.

Create a class library.
Write your code, compile it to .class files, put those class files in a .jar file and include the jar file in the classpath whenever you want to compile a project against it. -
Ability to update a custom text field across multiple projects in a grid type view
We have a project level custom field for the Project Owner to enter an Executive Level project status. A project owner will have many projects. Right now the owner has to open each project individually, update the text field and save which can
take a considerable amount of time. We would like to have the ability to have the project list with the text field in a grid (looks like an excel sheet) with the ability to update the text field directly from the grid. Is there some way
to do this?Hi,
Which project version are you using?
Anyway there is no "excel-like" way to bulk edit proejct field, such as you can do for the resources. The project center is unfortunately a read-only view.
For PS2010, the
bulk edit tool allows you bulk editing pronot be "excel-like" meaning updating the value in rows. You'll have to select the project with the same value for the custom field and enter the value once and validate and redo this process for each proejct field
value.
Otherwise third-party tools are available on the market for this purpose:
http://www.senseiprojectsolutions.com/sensei-bulk-update/
http://www.fluentpro.com/productsfluentbooks2013.html
Finally you could develop a side-application to achieve this objective.
Hope this helps,

Can Web Help Settings Be Applied Across Multiple Projects?
RoboHelp Help says that you can save SSL/WebHelp settings, but the wording leads me to believe that it only applies to the project in which you change the settings. Is there some way to save these settings as a file that can be used in other projects, so you don't have to manually configure everything each time you create a new project. I'm trying to creae a workflow for our department and something along the lines of the latter solution would save a lot of time and reduce errors.
Any insights are appreciated.
Thanks,
DouglasI keep a basic project for starting new ones. You could try copying the SSL from one project to another. I think it would work as long as the name of the layout is exactly the same as one in the target project. You would need to change any path details and some items such as TOC name might throw a wobbly. Do it with a new project and you have nothing to lose if it goes belly up.

How to share common classes across multiple projects in Jdeveloper?
Hi Experts,
I have a basic question.
I am using Jdeveloper 11g and have divided my application into 2 projects (Model(ejb's) and Viewcontroller(jsf+managed beans etc)).
The model project has a stateless session bean(named VisitingScholarBean) which uses a java bean class(named VisitingScholarDetails) defined in the ViewController project.
The relevant Method in the stateless session bean is public void saveVSDetails(VisitingScholarDetails vsDetails).
Now the issue is that the VisitingScholarDetails class is part of only the ViewController project but is being used in the Model project.
So when I try to run the application it gives an error saying that
weblogic.application.ModuleException: Exception preparing module: EJBModule(VisitingScholar-Model-ejb)

Please let me know how to include the VisitingScholarDetails class in the ejb-jar without replicating it in the Model and View Controller projects.
Thanks for your time and help.
Edited by: user10376431 on Jan 24, 2010 6:25 AMWelcome User in OTN,
to make two projects can access its classes you should goto the project property ---> Dependencies then add the other project.
in your case:
try to goto you Model project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
you will find your ViewController project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.
you can make this for ViewContoller project also as:
goto you ViewContoller project property ----> Dependencies ---> Edit Dependencies .
you will find your Model project. Expand it thin check to Build Output.

Maintaining Project Standards Across Multiple Projects
Hello,
Is there a way to maintain solman project standards in a template to apply to new projects or do they have to be manually configured for every new project?
Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks,
StephanieIFAIK, what you are trying will not work following the servlet specification. I mean, each web application has its own "session manager", that's why sessions cannot be shared among several applications.
Maybe using propietary solutions.... Or... I have never tried, but using a "common" repository (a DB).
You would have to create a cookie attached to the whole server (path=/). Using this cookie, access to DB where common data would be stored. -
How to manage multiple resources in multiple project?
Hello,
We are a very small company that has migrated from an in-house TFS solution to using VSO to manage our projects. One issue we are having is being able to look at outstanding tasks and resources allocated across multiple projects. What I'm looking
for is one place where I can see how many hours a person is allocated for a given week for all projects.
Thank you for your help!
CurtHi Curtis,
You can create a single team project and create teams for each of you project. Then you would be able to monitor all team progress etc using root team project and each team progress can be separately monitor. If you use parallel iterations across all teams
this would be more effective.
For team capacity you can set full capacity to root level and divided capacity levels to each team.
Scaled Agile Framework is explaining similar concept here for more complex situations in below article. But you can use a simplified version of it.

Topics in multiple projects in RoboHelp 8 are getting crossed over
I have multiple projects I imported/upgraded into RoboHelp 8. Initially when in each project, all topics are correct. But after importing second and subsequent projects, when I go back to the first project, it shows the topics from the last project?? What's going on? I've tried searching to see if this has happened to others, but do not see anything of the like... Any help would be appreciated...
Hi all
Perhaps it will help if we take a moment to understand a bit of the evolution of RoboHelp.
Pull your chairs a bit closer and I'll tell you a story. In earlier years RoboHelp projects were managed by the .MPJ file. Because the MPJ file kept track of all project aspects, it was possible to store as many different projects as you like in the same main folder. This was nice from the aspect of sharing content. You could set things up so that you had common topics and images across multiple projects. If any of them changed, you changed them in any project and they changed for ALL projects using them. Of course this meant you had to recompile or re-generate each project if they changed, but the change actually only occurred once.
Now along comes X5 with a new file structure. XML format. This meant some changes. Unfortunately some changes that effectively blew this manner of working totally out of the water. You may wonder why. Well, it's because while each project is mostly unique, some of the underlying files are rather generically named. For example, you have the ProjectName.XPJ, which is specific to each project, but that XPJ references generic files with APJ (Anaheim ProJect) file extensions. Files such as rhskins.apj, rjsnippet.apj and so on.
My guess as to what has happened here is that with only one instance of these files able to be in a single folder, whoever saved last wins.
What you have ahead of you is the following task.
You need to split the projects into separate folders so that each project is in its own folder.
THEN you upgrade each project.
You should probably begin by restoring from the backup you made prior to attempting the upgrade.
You, ummm, DID make one, didn't you?
Cheers all... Rick

PCM Search document over multiple project
Hi,
Need to be able to search for document over multiple project. Search option is not available when selecting "All projects". Is there a way to do it?
Thanks,
StephaneUnfortunately, you cannot search across multiple projects. Contract Manager will allow you to run reports across multiple projects but does not have the ability to search across multiple projects from within the application. You can contact support and have then enter this as a feature enhancement for consideration in future version of CM.

Does lion server support a single email address across multiple devices??
I am looking to move from an outdated Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 to OS X Lion Server but I am unsure as to how Lion will handle email. I do not want to spend money on a new windows server if I can get a Mac Mini Server to do the job. I am a very small business with a number of email accounts for a couple employees and need access to email and calendar from both the office iMac's and my Macbook Pro when on the road. My IT guy says I need Exchange but he's been off base on a few other items recently and I wanted to check with other sources.
I have 2 new iMac's, a MacBook Pro, an iPad1 and and iPhone4 on the mac side of things and 2 windows computers running XP. I would get rid of the windows computers completely if not for my CAD program which runs best not in a virtual machine mode.
How well will email and calendar entries sync across devices?I have a very similar setup at my office. Lion Server will push email, calandar, contacts to all of your apple product with out a hitch.
As far the Windows XP machines, you can access email over IMAP with Thunderbird, and calandars via sunbird or the built in web app.
I would ditch the exchange server move to Mac OS X Server, and never look back.
God Luck!
PS. All of your devices will be in sync all the time.

Forecast Roll-Over Script across multiple years
Hello Experts,
I currently have the below Script and Prompt but it only works for one Fiscal year and I need help changing it so that it can be used across multiple years, my issue is below:
If I have project TEST and it started in 2013.011 and ends in 2014.004, I have forecast values for all periods so when I run the script I'm prompted to "select forecast year" and "select forecast version based on previous period"
So when I run from 2013.11 (forecast version P11) to 2013.12 (forecast version P12) that works fine but it's not working to roll-over from 2013.012 to 2014.001
Any help is much appreciated.
Thx,
Shane

Spreading user data across multiple HD's?
I hope this is the right forum for this. I'm on a Mac Pro 1,1 and recently installed a few extra hard drives to optimize performance for video editing (accoring to recommendations over at another big software company's support docs -- this is not about FCP).
My goal is to have this general set-up:
SSD: Boot Drive (OS & Apps) -- already set up
Disk 2: Editing Project Files, media and exports
Disk 3: Cache, renders and previews
Disk 4: Ideally this would be for docs, itunes, photos and anythings non video related.
The thing is, this advice comes from PC users mainly and the OSX User Folder structure isn't an issue.
Question: Can the same user folder's contents be spread across multiple HD's? I realize I'll need to physically place a different "house" icon folder in each HD, probably, but can those have different contents? How can I make them all boot on start-up so the disk allocation is pretty much not noticeable?
Thanks!A simple version of what you are trying is to establish a Boot Drive, with only System, Library, Applications, and the hidden unix files. All user files are moved off to a different drive.
Here are some simple recipes for Moving the "Home" folder"
Japamac's Blog: Make space for Performance -- Moving the Home Folder
http://chris.pirillo.com/how-to-move-the-home-folder-in-os-x-and-why/
You can embellish this basic setup any way you wish, especially putting Movie data on a different drive, and Movie cache data on yet another drive. -
Syncing model sources across multiple WARs
One of the problems we're hitting in our development is keeping model classes synced across a multi-WAR project. For example, the model class for, say, a User object was changed in WAR B, but that developer (an intern) did not publish those changes to WARs A and C. The end result was that a few of our web service calls started failing on the unchanged WARs, while others worked fine.
I started looking into EJB3, intrigued by the @Remote and @Local setup, but those are related to the session beans themselves. I was hoping that object models could be referenced by interface across multiple WAR distributions as well, though I haven't dug up anything specific on this yet.
Is there any advice on this forum for keeping model classes in sync across a multiple-WAR project (aside from tighter repository control and swift kicks to the butt)?Wraithe wrote:
Quoting myself: +"The end result was that a few of our web service calls started failing on the unchanged WARs"+
My original question pertaining to ensuring that the source code for the end user model classes remained consistent. You can't if the interface contains Java classes that are changed. You immediately have to deploy updated JAR files with the new code to all the clients that need it.
The JAR idea is applicable, though not ideal, and I was hoping there was some other suggestion as to how to handle client-side objects. There is: XML messaging in the service interface instead of Java classes.

Spreading your Aperture Library across multiple volumes/drives/disks
I recall reading posts elsewhere by others (on an Adobe Lightroom forum) on how one's Aperture Library had to sit on one volume, meaning that it could not span multiple disks. At the time I figured I would be fine for a while since I had about 150 GB of free space on my main disk, yet kept the topic at the back of my mind.
Today, as I do regularly, I was backing up my (Aperture) library to my iPod, (not through the "vault" mechanism but simply using Finder,) when I noticed it was copying (many) individual files, rather than one large file! Being familiar with Unix, including how certain items in Mac OSX are treated, such as "Applications" that appear to be one object in the GUI, yet are merely a folder structure behind the scene, it occurred to me that the Aperture Library, rather than being some sort of single-file database format, just might be a folder instead.
I checked, and it is. Mind you, that doesn't prevent Aperture from keeping proprietary files within those folders, however, it would seem to me that one could easily use symbolic links to throw some of the files, perhaps at the project level, onto other disks, and thus span your library across multiple volumes even if Aperture does not yet offer or manage this ability.
iMac G5 2.1 HGz, 1.5 GB RAM, 20" Mac OS X (10.4.7)Perhaps this article will help shed light on Aperture's library organization:

Creating & Combining Multiple Projects Query
My IT team has asked me to determine whether I can create and
merge multiple projects to reduce likelihood of "issues" resulting
from use and loading of very large files. Currently, my project is
at 93 MB. I anticipate that it will roughly triple in size within
the next year to year and a half.
I've never had to do this before and I just need a bit of
reassurance that this can be done, easily, without creating a huge
strudel.
I can across two tech notes indicating different approaches
to this challenge: ID: rb_11942 and rb_1940 (
http://www.adobe.com/go/rb_1940).
There will undoubtedly be a large number of cross project
links and a substantial index (when all projects are combined).
I would appreciate any input you might have to offer before I
launch this effort.Hmmm - how do I put this diplomatically? Let's try this -
would the IT guys accept your guidance on how to configure their
server farm? Nope. So why do they (off the diplomatic path for just
a wee bit) stick their noses into how you do your job? (ok, back
on).
I can only offer my experience here. I have a knowledge base
compiled in WebHelp, for which the project environment is almost a
GB. My compiled Help for our application is produced from an
environment that contains about 133MB.
Given that I have a fairly fiesty laptop, with 2GB RAM and
oodles of disk space, where both projects reside, I have few issues
with working in "large" projects. Both deliverables compile and /
or publish in about 5 minutes or less.
I guess my point is, if it ain't broke, don't make it more
difficult to work with just because an IT guy says so. Skip the
strudel.
(I love my IT guys, by the way - they don't mess around with
what I do, and listen patiently when I tell them what equipment
they should buy - LOL)
