Employee knowledge

I went to the Cerritos store tonight looking for a "RCA to USB connector" and was told by the sales person in Home Theater that "no such product exists". When I got home, I went to Amazon.com and bought one for $3.50 plus $.50 shipping. Now, why is it that it was so easy to get from Amazon, a product that Best Buy says "doesn't exist"? I understand if the company doesn't carry it. There are a lot of things that Best Buy doesn't carry. That's just how business is done. But, the sales person could have asked a co-worker or manager. Instead the person chose to simply dismiss me. Don't get me wrong. Even with it's short comings, I still like Best Buy and don't intent to stop shopping there just because of this little issue. (This is not the first time this has happened to me by the way.) With all the talk in the press about Best Buy being in danger of going out of business, it just sems to me that it would be in the company's best interest to invest a little more time in educating it's employees in products and answering customer questions. Just a thought.

Agree with XL once again.
Do come back and tell us how the product worked out for you, Papajohn. I agree that the associate should not have said a product like that doesn't exist, although it is true that Best Buy does not carry it.

My TX 2500 regularly locks up with when I plug in or unplug the computer from the AC adapter.  The thing is, I have to be watching flash video to do it.  I have to force shut down the computer, and when I restart, nothing comes up.  After a 2nd force shut down, the computer starts up fine.
    Any ideas?

So you don't have the latest BIOS you might want to go out to this link and download the latest updates.

  • I have a problem with my pavilion dv4-2045dx dvd/cd rom drive for windows 7 64-bit

I can play CD's and watch dvd movies fine.  The drive have no problem reading cd and DVD's.  My problem is with cd-rom and blank CD's and DVD's.  I can't burn anything.  For some reason, it won't read any cd-rom disks.  This has never been a problem before.  I tried the idea about the upper and lower filters but when I searched, I didn't see any upper or lower filters.  I tried the microsoft fix it and nothing was wrong.  I looked at the device manager and it shows no problem at all.  What should I do next?

  • Love the iPhone, Verizon is not the same.

My other half purchased an iPhone for me two weeks ago.  I have had zero problems with the iPhone itself and I am very pleased.  No freezing, crashing, dropped calls (unless there is little or no signal) it's really helpful to me and my busy life.
Up until this point I raved about Verizon and I was impressed with their customer service, pleased with employees knowledge of phones, plans, pricing and features.  Ever since this iPhone I have talked to 2 very confused agents over the phone, one aggitated tech and one very confused online chat agent.
I received a voice mail asking me to evaluate my recent experience and that line was unable to complete my call.
I was not made aware that all of my Verizon voicemails would disappear and I am in the middle of a case which requires those voicemails.  While they may be gone, I am not impressed that I was not advised of several details involving this iPhone.
I was very excited that Verizon now has the iPhone so I could stay with their service but now I am not very impressed.
If anyone can direct me to a feedback line, emai or something I would be grateful.
I tried calling customer service and the agent said they did not know of a customer service line and they could not assist me in that matter.  I am confused as to why customer service cannot provide the service they once had.

That's awesome!  I have not yet met one person who knew or was told prior to purchasing the phone.  So I see that you are fortunate.
Sorry to say, but the majority of posters on here will tell you that they were aware that voicemails would be lost. If you and your wife never actually researched the iPhone on VZ prior to purchasing (other than talking to a rep) then that may explain why you were not aware, although the VZ stores in my area did tell people when purchasing in store before activating that they would lose their vmails. Unfortunately, it does seem that a lot of VZ CS were not sufficiently trained (at least in the beginning) about the iPhone. At any rate, I would like to point out that even with AT&T if someone switches to the iPhone from another phone they lose their vmails (per info I read on their FAQs for the iPhone and from an AT&T iPhone owner that I know personally...who said she wasn't told by AT&T either that she would lose them). It's unfortunate that you needed those vmails but honestly, if the messages saved on anyone's vmail is extremely important they should investigate ways to save them externally from the network anyway. It's like backing up your data on a computer...at any time for any reason something could happen to that data and those important files could be lost if backups aren't done. Something could happen to the vmail system at any time causing people to lose saved vmails and they would still be in the same boat. True, the possibility seems slim on the surface but the risk is still there. Obviously, all of that is pure hindsight, but it is food for thought (for the future) when it comes to any important data anyone wants to keep.
As far as the CS issues...have you tried looking on the website for a corporate address to contact or doing a search to find this info? Usually, contacting Corporate will lead you in the right direction when call center employees seem unable or unwilling to help. A lot of CS for companies work for a contracted company rather than the old process of having an actual call center or CS center directly within the company. That might explain the decline in CS many feel like has occurred.

  • Recovery Problem HP DV7 4285dx

I had deleted the recovery partition from my laptop after making the recovery disks. I tried to restore my laptop to factory settings using recovery disks. But it showed that my hard disk was formatted and 83 % of the factory image was copied to the hard disk and then a error occured that you cant restore your computer to factory settings using this factory image. I tried that 4 times including Minimized recovery also. Please provide me a solution as my laptop is not starting.

I would recommend booting into the UEFI Diagnostic menu by tapping the "f2" key while booting and running the start up test.
If your drives pass then you can order recovery discs from support, or on-line.
If the drives fail then you need to get support for that issue first.

  • Tx1205 won't boot

As you all say the little notebooks or tablets if you will won't boot.
I did a completer restore and now it won't boot unless I turn the power on and hold the escape key down and this has to be several times or maybe just once. Any solutions to this?? Video and everything works fine. If it calls for a restart after updating microsoft or HP upgrades it will not restart unless I go thru the same procedure.

Did you add any memory or did you buy it with the 8GB's already installed?
Go into the BIOS by tapping F10 while booting and go the diagnostic tab.
    Run the Memory test first
Then if that passes run the hard-drive test, it will run a short and then a long one.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-2190us Notebook PC Battery Won't Charge & Will Now Only Run on AC Power

    OS: Win7 (64-bit)
    Serial #: [Personal Information Removed]
First off, I will say that the main battery I am using is not an HP OEM battery, however, it has been verfied to work and charge correctly in another family member's dv6 notebook.  Furthermore, I have access to an HP OEM battery, from a family member's dv6, with which I have confirmed the same issue.  FYI: I replaced my OEM battery about a year ago with an aftermarket battery when my OEM battery stopped holding a charge.  This happened after before my laptop was 2 years old.
So, here's a description of the problem.  About a month ago, even though my laptop was plugged in to the AC adapter, the battery stopped charging.  The laptop continued to work until the battery completely ran out of charge.  Once that happened, the laptop shut down, DESPITE still being connected to the AC adapter.  At this point, as long as the battery was installed in my laptop, with the AC adapter still connected, it would not power up.  The only way I could get it to power up was to remove the battery.  Then, it would boot up just fine, but of course, I was now tethered via the AC cord, turning my laptop into a "thin and light desktop".  If I attempted to put the battery back while the computer was on, connected to the AC adapter, it would shut down IMMEDIATELY.  I took the battery and plugged it into my family member's dv6, at which point it charged just fine and worked normally.  I then took the charged battery and put it back into my laptop only to have the same sequence of events repeat, i.e. laptop ran off of the battery despite the AC adapter being plugged in until it ran out of charge...had to remove battery to get laptop to start back up.  I have also confirmed the exact same behavior with the HP OEM battery out of my family member's dv6.  So, in a nutshell, it would appear as though my laptop has lost the ability to charge batteries and cannot resolve the fact that the AC adapter is plugged in when a dead battery is installed.
It should be noted that despite the normal operation of my family member's dv6 with my battery and the normal operation of my laptop with just the AC adapter plugged in, I did verify (via a multimeter) that the voltage of the batteries were within normal operating range and that the voltage and current flow of the AC adapter was within normal operating range.
Is there a separate charging circuit inside the dv6 for charging the battery?  Is it separate from the motherboard and possible to replace?  I've done quite a bit of research on this issue (or very similar issues) and despite some suggestions RE: BIOS issues, I just can't see how that could be the culprit.  Nor can I see how "re-calibrating" my battery would address this problem.  Note: battery does register at 100% when charged in the other dv6 and put back into my dv6.
Ok, I hope that clearly explains the issue.  Please let me know if I can provide any further details to help troubleshoot it.
    Thanks,
    Eric

Okay, so the type of battery you have is designed to last approximately 1 year (see link below) it has lots of links to other useful docs too.

HP & other companies do sell Long life batteries but they cost more.
We would ask you to put the unit in our unit and run Battery check which is inside HP Support Assistant, make sure you have the latest version, same for your BIOS Version.
You will see there are bunch of tips on how to make your battery last longer, but you really need to start doing them from the start, if your battery is already 1 year old there is a good chance it is low enough on it's capacity to require you buying a new one.
You should check out our site, they often have sales, and Batteries would be under accessories.
Check out other sites too, compare.
    Good luck.

  • Win 7 and HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook PC help.

I keep getting an error message saying "No Audio Output Device Installed."
I just recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, and evidently my Audio Drivers got somehow deleted in the process.
I checked the HP Drivers page for my laptop, and i found the one for vista that I was using and I installed them again hoping they would work because they don't have drivers compatable with Windows 7 for my laptop.
But i still keep getting the same message.
Under properties on my audio card it says: "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"
Anyone know what to do? I wish that HP could make a compatable audio driver for my notebook for Windows 7.
    Suggesstion?

HP provides support for each HP product based on the original operating system tested, pre-installed, and shipped with that product.  While HP worked closely with Microsoft during the development of the Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft will be providing Windows 7 operating system related support to those customers who purchased the Windows 7 operating system separately from their HP PC (i.e., not preinstalled by HP on their HP PC).   Please note that certain HP products (specific hardware and/or software) may not be compatible with the Windows 7 operating system.
you can also check out these microsoft links that deal with upgrading from older OS's

  • Problem with HP SimplePass Identity protection???

Hi, I just purchased "HP Pavilion dv6 3049tx" few days back, & now all of a sudden my finger print reader is not working..!?? It says, "unable to detect finger print reader" at start up... even though I've re-installed the driver & software of "digital persona ver5.00.140a", the problem persists..., even I've tried restoring to factory settings, but no use! ....one strange thing what i observed is that, the finger print reader driver is not visible under "Biometric/Human Interface menu" in the device manager even after installing the necessary drivers & softwares!!... please help me..???

Hi, this may be a hardware issue, but before you go to the trouble of having your unit repaired I would recommend trying a System Recovery.
You don't need discs, you can run it by either tapping the "f11" key while booting, or by choosing "Recovery Manager" from the start menu (just type recovery in the start search box)
From here you can choose to reinstall drivers or applications or to run a recovery back to factory settings.
You will need to back up any personal data you have as it will wipe it out.
If you run recovery and it works, it's not hardware, if you run it and it does not work, it most likely is hardware and you should have the unit repaired under warranty.
    Good luck
