Empty author entries in RSS articles as viewed in Mail

I wonder if any one else has noticed this niggling problem. I subscribe to various RSS feeds in Mail, e.g. this one:
feed://www.agu.org/pubs/rss/ja_rss.xml
for which the articles often have multiple authors of the form "J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author", which in the original RSS feed XML source is written as:
<author>J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author</author>
Safari will list these authors correctly for each article, and the relevant source line for these authors when the article is viewed in Safari is:
<div class="apple-rss-author" title="J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author">J. Bloggs, J. Doe and A. N. Author</div>
However, when viewed in mail the author list goes AWOL, such that the entry in the Author column is empty and the raw message source in Mail is:
X-Mail-Rss-Author:
This does not happen when the articles have only one author - in this case the single author is displayed correctly in Safari and Mail. Does anybody know what's going on? Why isn't the string listing the authors just parsed without being fiddled with - is it something to do with the commas delimiting the authors? I don't know enough about how Mail deals with RSS feeds.

Have you ever sign into your email account on the computer?
There is an Inbox, Junk, Draft, Sent and Deleted folder. Basically, the mail app just sync those exact same folder from the mail server and those emails within those folders.
You should be asking the mail server provider why such Junk mail folder is there and why not just delete them from inbox.
If you move mail to the junk, it will recognize next time if its from the same sender it will automatically goes to junk.
I tried to delete that junk mail folder on hotmail.com and you are not able to delete it.

  • "View All RSS Articles" Sometimes Stops All Pages from Loading

    Hi!
I'd like some help with this:
Sometimes, when I view a whole lot of RSS articles in one tab, the content stops loading after one hundred or so articles have come in. After this, no pages will load -- not even a local html file in my home directory.
These message appears in the console:
    2007-01-17 13:10:37.996 Safari[6634] * -[NSCFString stringByAppendingString:]: nil argument
    (event handler):Null value
Memory and CPU don't seem unusually high. I can still close tabs, export bookmarks and do other things with the menus. I just can't load a new page.
Quitting and re-starting Safari is the only way I have found around this problem.
    Scott

Wow... thanks for trying out those feeds that I suspected. It's a wierd problem, because it does not occur consistently.
I reproduced the error by viewing all RSS articles in my news feeds bookmarks folder, and I used "Start Profiling with Sample" on the Debug menu to create a .sample file, and I stopped profiling when the error recurred a few seconds later.
This produced a ten-thousand-line-long file that may contain useful information.
    Here's the console log section:
    2007-01-20 16:42:11.587 Safari[227] starting sample tool
    2007-01-20 16:42:39.834 Safari[227] * -[NSCFString stringByAppendingString:]: nil argument
    2007-01-20 16:42:44.918 Safari[227] sample tool output written to /tmp/SafariSample-2007-01-20-164211.sample
    The file is at
    http://homepage.mac.com/eyesquash/tmp/SafariSample-2007-01-20-164211.sample
I also have excerpted my news feeds bookmarks folder, so if you like, you can try importing it into Safari and loading all of it at once (a bit over 1,000 articles). It's here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/eyesquash/tmp/news%20feeds.html
I will try this from another account of my machine. I'll also try it from another account with Safari running in its messed-up state on my main account.
You know, this would not bother me much at all if it weren't such a nice feature when it works. Most Apple things are like that for me: great when they work, and they usually work.

  • Can you remove the "View All RSS Articles" and Counter in Bookmarks Bar?

Hi There. I have a folder/drop down menus called "MyMix" in the Bookmarks Bar with several subfolders of pages I like to visit regularly. It's a silly thing but I get tired of the climbing counter of RSS articles in parentheses that sits next to it. Is there anyway to remove that functionality? I have a few other drop down menus that don't have the same problem, so not sure why this one does it. I've tried copying the folder and taking out each individual subfolder but it still keeps the RSS counter and "View All RSS Articles" link in there.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Awesome, thank you. I should've checked preferences myself. Duh.
Still curious as to why it chose that folder instead of the other one's I have to display the RSS updates but I guess that will remain a mystery.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Can Flickr RSS feeds be viewed?

So I know that Flickr photos can be used on AppleTV now. Any word on how that's actually done? Anyone know if you can specify an RSS feed? I'd like to be able to view photos by one particular user who's tagged specific photos with a keyword and use an RSS feed to view these photos.
    Thoughts?

No one can really answer that until the SU is released, there is certainly no mention of RSS feeds on the promotional stuff  are feeding us, my guess would be no but who knows.

  • RSS articles not removed...

In the Mail settings, I specified that RSS articles be removed after one day. That is not happening; the articles just accumulate day after day. I can see articles that are now over a month old. I can even see articles that are over a year old (even though I've had my Mac for only four months).
Is this a bug or did I forget to do something?

    Hello b:
I have the same problem, although I use Safari as my RSS reader. That issue has been around (at least for me) for a long time. My workaround is to either clear the RSS articles manually or reset the delete time frame to something else and then set it back. I do not know how one deletes RSS articles in Mail (or if you can).

  • Unable to view sent mail content

Has anybody had the problem of not being able to view sent mail content in the sent mailbox? When a message is selected from list, the message "The message from XXXXXXX <[email protected]> concerning “title” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." when I try to view a sent message. This issue applies to all the sent messages in the sent mailbox, I can see a complete list of messages, just not the content?

If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article.
Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • For all like me who have been fooled by rss disapearing in Mountain Lion Mail

I have read lots of threads regarding the discontinued support of RSS feeds in Mountain Lion Mail, but unfortunately, after I have installed Moutain Lion (I am really angry with Apple not to have communicate on this point and to have discover it at the end of the install!).
So, after reading a lot on the subject, here's what I have made to get back everything I needed.
First, I wanted to get all my saved articles back. For this I have gone in ~Library>Mail>V2>RSS> (you have to show hidden files) Here you have the list of your old rss mailboxes. Select the ones you want to restore and drop them into a folder that's not hidden (in a folder on your desktop for example) because you won't be able to see this folder in the file selection window in the next step.
    Then go to Mail->File->Import mailboxes
Select "Apple Mail". Then go to the folder previously created and select all the .mbox files you moved in.
Now you will have a new mail box with all imported subfolders and alle your saved articles. You can then rearrange them as you like.
Now, to renew your feeds subscriptions, you have no other choice than to use another rss app. And to find all your feeds links, go to ~Library>Mail>V2>RSS> or the folder previously created and in each .mbox open the info.plist file. In each file look for the string in front of "RSSFeedURLString", double click on it and copy and paste it in your new rss reader.
It's not a clean solution, it's quite long (mainly for the import of rss feeds in the new reader), it forces to have old saved articles in mail and new ones in the new app, but that's the only solution I have found.
If anyone has a better one, I think lots of us will appreciate.
PS: please accept my apologies if everything is not clear, as English is not my mother tongue

Can anyone recommend a good RSS reader? One I can use on my Mac and iPad?
I wrote one to integrate with Mountain Lion's notifications. The iPad version is not yet available. You can download it from: http://www.etresoft.com/etrefeed

I just noticed I have to run spell check when leaving a post here. The old Safari would automatically redline misspelled words.
Seems that they are taking many things away when we upgrade- don't understand.
That is a function of the forum software. Safari 6 has nothing to do with it.

  • Users are unable to view private mails of shared mailbox

We are facing one issue here with shared mailbox ( helpdesk and servicedesk) . users are not able to view mails which marked as private to helpdesk ID
Symptom:- users having full access to shared mailboxes are unable to view private mails received in shared mailbox.
    Product: Outlook 2010 SP2/ Outlook 2013

Did you try the article I suggested?
Essentially, the "owner" of the mailbox needs to grant "show all items, including Private, to my delegates".
I think MSFT introduced this change (to honour the Private flags) in OL2010, and earlier versions did not respect the Private flags.
(some customers want private to be properly private. other customers, don't want private to be private, if you know what I mean ;)

  • RSS sending old feeds in Mail

I have RSS feeds in my Apple Mail that continue to update old feeds. For example: I have an Adobe Fireworks feed and it continues to update feeds all the way back to 2006. I can have up to 650 feeds every time it updates, why is this happening and can I fix it?

I agree. I have had the RSS feed issue in the Mail app and also in Safari, not updating the RSS counts with viewing. Copying the Pub Sub folder from a "Guest" account into a "shared" area on the drive, so I could later use it to replace my current Pub Sub folder fixed both problems. A great fix.
