Empty classloader cache?

On older MacOS versions, if I needed to empty the classloader cache, I would go the the Java settings and turn on Use Java console. Then, when I loaded an applet, the Java console would pop right up in a new window next to my browser. But this doesn't appear to happen in MacOS 10.4.11. I've tried Safari, Netscape, and Firefox. So, how do I empty the classloader cache if I can't open the Java console? I can see the Java log inside the Console program, but it's just a log -- there's no functionality there.

  • Empty System Cache... What Happens?

So I kinda goofed up (I think).
I was using the Application "Mainmenu" to repair permissions before installing the newest iTunes & iPhoto update. I inadvertently clicked on "Empty System Cache" instead of "Repair Permissions". Realized it about a mili-second after. I wasn't sure what that actually DOES, but afterwards a few of my desktop icons were now blank otherwise everything seemed fine.
That is UNTIL I launched Safari. I have a dual-monitor set-up and usually have Firefox running on the Left display and Safari on the Right. When I went to launch Safari, it no longer remembered where it was supposed to go & I was also UNABLE to put it there (Full-Screen on Right monitor). It doesn't seem to want to stay there anymore. It laps over to the Left monitor a bit. I try & drag it back where I like it and it just slides back. Any ideas?

    Hi, GregM.
Your questions are answered in Disk Utility Help, specifically:
    • "Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Protecting your data against hardware failure with a mirrored RAID set."
    • "Disk Utility 10.5 Help: A disk in a RAID set has failed or is missing."
FWIW and IMO, unless one is running a high-volume transaction server with a 99.999% ("Five Nines") availability requirement, RAID is overkill. For example, unless you're running a bank, a brokerage, or a major e-commerce site, you're probably spending sums of time and money with RAID that could be applied elsewhere.
For the average user, RAID is high on the "geek chic" scale, low on the practicality scale, and very high on the "complex to troubleshoot" scale when problems arise. The average user is better served by implementing a comprehensive Backup and Recovery solution and using it regularly.
    Good luck!

Can anyone help me .... its driving me bananas
    Thanks in advance....

Thanks again Meg... the G4 is pretty old now (10 years-ish) but it is a bit of a monster... 2x 500 gig + 128gig HD for Apps and OS only... 2 gig RAM (I know the bus speed is quite slow) Dual 1.2 Ghz CPU's

For about the past week, Facebook has been taking forever to load (or just doesn't) on my mac (OSX 10.5.8; Safari 5.0.6).  Other sites are fine.  I routinely empty the cache, clear history, cookies, etc. each time I shut down.  Suggestions?

I don't use Facebook, but I can say that clearing the cache every time you shut down is excessive - unless you're sure the cache is corrupt you should leave it alone.  It exists to speed up your browsing experience by loading frequently requested items from your drive rather than downloading them fresh from the internet each time.  So, I would say stop clearing your cache and see what happens.
As for clearing cookies: I'm not sure what method you currently use, but I would recommend you download and install CCleaner.  It's free, and allows you to build up a list of cookies that you want to clear and those you want to keep, before deleting them.
Both of these may help speed things up by reducing the amount of work Safari has to perform whilst browsing.  Regardless, I'd say that, unless there's a reason you've not mentioned for performing the "purging" that you do, making these two changes should see improvements in general web browsing if not specifically when loading Facebook.

  • Clear the classloader cache

I don't think so, you'll have to write your own classloader.

I used to have an option to "empty my cache" and it has suddenly disappeared?  Any suggestions??

    It's still there, sort of.
    1.  It's combined with "Clear History" now.
    2.  In your Safari preferences, go over to "Advanced" and  click on "Show Develop Menu."
It's in the Develop menu now, as well.

I can't open or receive hotmail emails on my macbrook pro, but i can on other devices. i changed my password, emptied the cache, tried using a different browser, etc. i think i have a virus. help!

Thanks for your help. that's not working either! ugh!!
I can open hotmail, but it's not formatting right, i can't open emails, nor send them.
Thank you so much for trying to help. I really appreciate it.
I understand that you can't get a virus by opening an email, but it seems way too circumstancial! This is my third mac -- because unlike PC -- I never had a problem. I understand this problem is not with my macbook, because every other website works fine -- it's hotmail!

  • I can't log into any of my online accounts after emptying my cache.

Ever since I reset Safari to empty my cache, history and such, I can not log into any of my online accounts, such as Safari, eBay,etc... I enter my username and password and click the sign in button and the page goes back to the log in page. I don't know what's going on with it.
Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, please let me know how I can resolve this problem. Thanks!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Sounds like you broke the connection between your Password list and Keychain Access. What you may have to do is reestablish those passwords. First step would be to go to keychain access and remove the related entries. Then go back to Safari and access each site. After entering your password information, a prompt ought to appear about keeping the password on file. Select "yes".

  • Do viewers of my site have to empty their cache every time I update???

Whenever I update my website, I have to empty my cache in order to see the new changes. Does that mean my viewers do, also?

Caching technology is a funny thing, Caroline. It's designed to help show us the websites we want faster, but sometimes it hinders us just like you are describing. The more you reload a website, the more likely the browser is going to try to keep that website in the memory cache and give it back to you as is from the cache the next time you try to load the website.
Now we all do this with iWeb....make a little change, publish it, then check it with a browser. And if you're like me, you check it multiple times in the space of about 5 minutes. Poor browser, it's no wonder the thing is so confused!
But bottomline, the whole empty cache thing is most likely to happen only to you. It doesn't matter where you host your site. It's simply a function of the number of times a page is reloaded and the time period that has elapsed since the last reload.

  • Emptying The Cache

How do you empty the cache? Today, I haven't been able to get the site
www.jcpenney.com to load. I keep getting the message that Safari is unable to load the page. I haven't tried the page on my husband's window's machine. All the other pages seem to load okay.

Linda, it works fine for me . . .
    Do these, OK?
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    Empty cache=Safari Menu Bar>Safari>Empty Cache.
    History = Safari Menu>History>Clear History.
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    Hope this helps

  • Safari hangs emptying the cache

Has anyone seen a problem with Safari 5.1 becoming unresponsive when trying to empty the cache?  This is a new problem for me with Lion.  It requires a Force Quit 100% of the time.

    David,
Emptying the Safari browser cache (any browser cache for that matter) does not remove passwords.
Passwords are stored in Keychain Access located in Applications/Utilities.
If you want Safari to "remember" passwords go to Safari / Preferences then select the Autofill tab.
Make sure User names and passwords is selected.
Emptying the cache removes temporary storage of web pages and images.
