Empty Documents folder after upgrade

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion.
When I go to my Documents folder it is empty.  If I use spotlight to find a document I know exists it finds it - if I get Info on the document it shows the correct path with the file in my Documets folder. So my Documents folder shouldn't be empty.
If I go to Applications / Utilities that folder is also empty.
Any ideas please?

How were you getting to your Documents?
Via the sidebar alias, or navigating directly through the Finder, folder by folder?
If using the Sidebar, those are only aliases to the original items. If the database that stores all the linking information was damaged, it won't point to the right place.

  • Can not edit file on network shared folder after upgrading to windows 7

Merry Christmas and happy new year,
Due to some configuration changes on a specific application, I have forced to upgrade OS of a few number of workstations from Windows XP to windows 7. After upgrading I am facing a strange problem on WIN7 workstations. These workstation are member of a Windows
2008 R2 Active Directory domain which also has a Windows 2003 advanced server additional domain controller. Also there are a number of shared folders on some member servers (all windows 2003) which are mapped as network drives at user logon. Before upgrading
mentioned workstations to WIN7, users was able to edit his/her files on all of mapped network drive according to his/her permissions without any problem on their WINXP workstations, But after installing windows 7 they begin facing problem on one of these mapped
network drives and the problem exactly is when they edit a file, in more specific word an excel file, and then try to save, the excel returns an error message of "document not saved" and exit the excel program. It becomes more strange when you learn
that the edited excel file is disappeared and replace with some "tmp" file. If user copy the excel file to his/her own desktop, edit it and then copy it back to its original place on mapped network drive, it will be replaced normally with its older
version. In other words if user wants to edit an excel file on that specific network drive, he/she must edits it somewhere else and then replace it on the network drive. If the same user uses a WINXP box, there will be no problem.
Can anybody help me to fix the issue?
    TIA
    Bijan

    Thank you Karen,
The problem is fixed, but my case was none of what you suggested. In fact I have
another problem which I described in another question and it was of the root of this excel file issue. I describe what I have done to fix the latter problem hope to help fixing similar issues to mine.
Okay, as it is described in the
question, I was not able to open a shared folder with its UNC address while it could be mapped as a network drive without any problem. I examined what I was replied and some other ways, came to no result. I decided investigate a similar shared folder in
permissions to problematic one to see if the problem is repeated. So I created a folder and shared it with similar permissions and examined it. Surprisingly there was no problem. It was wise to remove sharing of the problematic folder and share it again to
see if the problem resist. But when I tried to remove sharing I received an error message saying that
the shared folder is related to a DFS root. When I took a look at the DFS roots of domain there was no sign of the problematic folder (that made me recall that I created a DFS root with problematic folder mistakenly and removed that DFS root).
After little searching, I found out that the problem could be caused by traces of the removed DFS root. Yep! I found the suspect! The registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DFS\Domain\problematic shared folder. I removed the key restarted DFS service and log off and on and Bingo!
This problem pops up a few more questions:
    1) Why is not the registry key related to removed DFS root deleted from the registry of windows 2003 server?
    2) Why was I able to browse this ex-DFS root shared folder without any problem in windows XP while it was problematic in windows 7?
    3) As there is no special client service for DFS and user can access DFS root targets like other shared folders what is the deference between shared resource access mechanisms in windows XP and windows 7 that caused the problem?
    Bests,
    Bijan

  • Where is my document folder after using Migration Assistant?

I am setting up a new computer. First I repartitioned it to taste and filled a second partition with data. Then I fired up Migration Assistant to transfer my old computer to the new one, using a Time Machine backup. Both machines speak Lion. After this completed I noted the presence of all Apps, support files and various libraries - all accounted for. However my Documents folder is empty, except for one file, "About Stacks."  How come?

Migration Assistant created a new user with the same name and password as the old one. Log in to that account and move the files to the Public folder. Then log into the account you want to use and copy the files from the other account's Public folder.

  • IPhone photos not syncing to Pictures folder after upgrade to OS 10.6

I recently switched MacBooks, using a Time Machine backup, and am now on OS 10.6.3. I'm running iTunes 9.1.1, and my iPhone OS is 3.1.3
Before switching computers, the photos on my iPhone would sync to my Pictures folder on the MacBook. They are no longer doing that, but I don't get any error messages. I have selected to sync from the Pictures folder, under the Photos tab in iTunes. Other items appear to be syncing successfully, such as iCal appointments that were entered on the iPhone.

Did you do any OS X filesystem troubleshooting after updating to 10.6 - i.e. Disk Utility verify and repair (if necessary from install disc) and repair permissions? This should always be done after upgrades or installing new software.

  • Help! Cannot browse mp3s by folder after upgrade to OS 4.5.0.110

    Help!
After upgrading from (maybe) OS 4.1 to (definitely) OS 4.5, I now have a new media player that, um, I can no longer find my files with. Previously I would download various podcasts onto my phone and put them in the folder music\lectures. Then I would go into my media plaer and open music, then lectures, then find my files.
Now though, I have go into music, and I have to pick how whether to browse by artist, genre, title, etc. All of these key off the metadata in the mp3 though, and I don't always know what the metadata is. In some cases I just can't find my files at all.
Is there an alternate music player that would let me use a simpler (and functional) interface? Is there a way to hack the current one?
    I am totally frustrated.

  • Attached documents lost after upgrade to iCal 4.0.4

Attached documents lost in iCal after upgrade to iCal 4.0.4; I used to scan documents (written invitations etc.) and attach them to the iCal event. Can I restore them or are they lost forever?

I have exactly the same problem. Came to add a scanned letter to an appointment, and found a) there's nowhere to put it and b) my appointments with similar attached files are now file-less. Where are they? Anyone know?

What happened to Snow Leopard's desktop pictures after upgrade to Mavericks?
New OS X versions sometimes comes with new OS X default desktop pictures.
I'm sure you can find them on the Internet or better ones here and elsewhere
    http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/downloads/date/widescreen/1920x1200/index1.ht ml
Your personal desktop pictures should be still of course in your iPhoto and Pictures folder you might have to retarget them again in System Preferences.
If you can't find the pictures, you can install Snow Leopard onto a external drive and boot the computer and get them, or find out where they are located and just copy them.

  • Duplicate Document Numbering after Upgrade

Hi! Can anyone please help me to find-out a resolution for the Duplicate Document Numbering found after the SAP B1 upgrade from 2007 to 8.8?
This report has been found from the Administration -> Utilities.

The previous company database was a trial database, but the production version of the same is showing the following (missing & doubled) List in "Check Document Numbering -> Document Serial Numbering List"
Missing List - 52 rows (a sample from the top is given below) -
    Document     Number     To Number
    Checks for Payment     1     3931
         3933     6925
         6932     6932
         6963     6963
         7014     7014
and in right had side in the same as above way, the Doubled list - 16 rows
BUT I have check the "Checks for Payment Documents" the documents there shows their "Check Internal ID" 1 to 691. Then from where the above numbers have been detected by the system?
ANOTHER INTERESTING FACT IS THAT THE above testing I have done on SBO 8.8 PL12, hence I have got the "Upgrade Control Report" as well .... and this showing the following "Non-matching quantities" -
    #     Table     Records Before     Records After
    1     OINM     20284     17342
I have checked the upgrade log-file ... there were no errors. BUT at the time of "Pre-upgrade check" of this company database the warning "common database version differs from the company database version" always.

  • Podcasts don't appear in Recently Added folder after upgrade to itunes7.7

I just upgraded to itunes version 7.7. With this new upgrade my "Recently Added" folder in itunes no longer shows podcasts, it only shows songs. I have tried looking for a setting that will let me add Podcasts to this folder but I can't. Is anyone else having this problem? Prior to this latest upgrade Podcasts have always showed up in my Recently Added folder.

I, too, would like this fixed, but let me offer this workaround I discovered:
    1. Create a regular Playlist for each podcast you subscribe to
    2. Go to the Podcasts section of iTunes
    3. Right-click on a podcast you subscribe to
    4. From the menu, select "Add to playlist"
    5. Left-click on the playlist that corresponds to the podcast you've chosen
    6. Repeat for every podcast
After doing this, my podcast episodes go right into the playlists where I want them. They still don't show in Recently Added, which annoys me, but at least I know where they are. Even better, once I did the steps above, the podcast episodes that had downloaded since I "upgraded" iTunes now all appeare in their appropriate Playlists.

  • Why are some of my word documents scrambled after upgrading to snow leopard?

I just upgraded my desktop to 10.6.8 and I am experiencing more troubles....
    1.  4-5 computer freezes per day and I only use it for about 2 hours.
    2.  My word documents are empty, only showing red squiggle lines as if something is spelled wrong.
No idea how to fix.  Anyone?

Maybe your PDF file is composed of pictures? Can you select any of the text
in it, or does it select the entire page as a whole? If the latter, then
you can try to run Text Recognition on it before exporting it to Word.

  • Can't find a folder after upgrading to maverick and still have the previous OS

    Hi,
Last night I upgraded my mac to maverick...my previous OS was in Disk C and since it was showing that disk is full i had to put maverick in disk D..so i have two disks with OS that means less space for my personal use....also while putting maverick in D I already had a folder containing movies in it...When i am searching in spotlight i can get the movie but am not able to find it without it....Also how do i get rid of the previous OS and should i do that??

    ishica ghosh,
it sounds like what you’re calling your Mac’s internal space is what I’d call your Mac’s internal hard drive, and what you’re calling your three separate disks are what I’d call three partitions of your internal hard drive.
Let’s begin by approaching these aspects one at a time. On my Mac’s internal drive, only 22 GB of space is being used in total, including Mavericks and perhaps a dozen apps. If your Disk C has been sized to be 119 GB but it is mostly filled up, then it seems as though you must have significantly more apps or data installed there than just your old OS. Do you have more than one administrative user and one standard user under your old OS?
Here’s something that you can try to find out the amount of space that is being used by the user accounts on Disk C: boot into the old OS by holding down an Option key as you power up, use your cursor keys to select the OS on Disk C, and press the Return key. Log in as its administrative user, and from the Finder press Command-Shift-U to open the Utilities folder. Run Terminal.app in that folder. Within the Terminal window, give it the following command:
    sudo du -sm /Users/*
This command will ask you for a password; give it the administrative user’s password. The password will not be displayed as you type it. Please copy the output from this command into your reply.

  • Can you access a Leopard previous system folder after upgrading to Snow?

If I have a previous system folder from 10.5, can I copy to my machine running Snow Leopard and access files? I have it archived and want to upgrade a MacBook intel currently using Tiger to either Leopard or Snow Leopard and then access the files.
I see the previous system folder and user on the Tiger machine fine. It shows correct folder sizes, but files do not appear...assuming because it's 10.5.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Bryson

Long story...but basically was using 10.5 regularly, then had some major issues (couldn't even log in at all). Went to reinstall OS but my Leopard system disc was damaged. So went back to 10.4 (had old disc)and copied previous system folder to archive. Was going to buy and reinstall 10.5 but thought about going all the way to SL instead.
