Empty Events

Man, this is the crappiest upgrade Apple has ever put out. I've solved a lot of issues by rebuilding the library, fixing permissions, etc. Importing photos is still flakey, and I've had to rebuild the library many times just to get newly imported photos to show up.
My current problem is that after the latest round of permission fixes, rebuilding, etc., I now have several Events that are empty. It just shows a generic illustration of the palm tree photo from the iPhoto application icon. The steps I took were to 1) repair permissions using disk utility 2) fix permissions using Batchmod 3) rebuilding the library.
First, any idea why these events are suddenly blank They weren't blank in prior rebuilds (I don't think)? Second, I can't seem to find a way to delete these empty events - any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Do you get a message about MMe when you first open iPhoto?  If so try the following:
Click on the More Info button and ignore the web page, go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the MobileMe account. Next to go the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.  That will stop those messages.
If not make sure MMe is deleted from iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and log out of MMe in the System/MobileMe preference pane.

  • IPhoto has empty events

    Hello,
iPhoto has 2 empty events, no images at all in them, can't delete them. What should I do?
    David.

It wasn't as obvious as it sounds..  I had two empty events and had to look around some myself..

  • Deleting an empty event

In inadvertently created a new event (it is empty of any pictures) and want to delete it, but I cannot seem to do so. I did a search here, but the recommendation to drag it to the trash or hit the delete button did not work. Is there a way to delete it, or am I resigned to retitleing it and reusing it later when I'm ready to add a new event?

If that Event is empty it should simply go away itself. But it probably isn't actually empty because you can't create an empty Event. The Create Event option is only available when you have at least one photo selected. So, is there a Hidden photo in there?

  • .Mac Gallery Sync causing Empty Events to Appear?

I have two computers I use to upload photos to Web Gallery via iPhoto to the same .Mac account (both have leopard and iPhoto 08). Each computer is set to check for new photos daily. In both iPhoto libraries I have seen these empty events pop up that show place holders for images, but no actual images. They claim to have a certain number of photos in them. The number matches up exactly to the size of a Gallery posted from the OTHER computer on the .Mac Gallery. What the heck are these?
Any way to fix this? Can I delete them without effecting the Published Gallery.

I'm wondering if having two computers maintaining galleries together is the problem - that seems like something that could well have not been tested
I've not tried what you are doing - since upgrading to 7.1.2 had not effect I'm out of ideas - maybe someone out these is using two systems with one .mac account

  • Firestarter logging - empty events tab

Does anyone know if there's an Arch "package update" for Firestarter on the horizon? - ie one that's going to fix the current empty "events tab" ??
It's not a huge problem checking /var/log/iptables.log, but would just be easier to have the events tab populated again.
    Cheers.

Apart from not getting the events, i also am unable to add /change any rules.
This happened after a re-install with xorg 7.
Firestarter appears to be using sit0 for internal network interface.

Anyone have an idea how to get sit0 active ?

  • IPhoto randomly deleting photos, leaving empty events behind.

Hi. My iPhoto will randomly delete photos from entire events, leaving behind only an empty event. What is happening? Are the photos still on my computer somewhere? How do I make is stop?
I have read it could be a corrupt library? Is that possible? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Super! Thanks for the guidline for providing better detail.
    I'm running iPhoto '11 (version 9.4.2)
    -on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4
    - There doesn't seem to be a trend to what photos are deleted and when. It has started within the past 5-6 months. All I observe is when I open my iPhoto, on occasion there will be an empty event. It never deletes partial events and it never deletes the event itself (that I have noticed) There are absolutley no other problems with iPhoto itself. It speaks to my iPhone and iPad just fine, iCloud syncs the Photo Stream well. I am fairly certain that the only photos deleted came from my iPhone. (I have an iPhone 5)
In addition to deleting photos, it seems that iPhoto is misplacing events. For example, I have an event with only 3 photos in it taken on 12 April. It has been moved to the top of the list of events for no apparent reason.
    - I can't say how long this has been going on. Maybe 5-6 months tops. I did move to Indonesia from America in that time. I can't imagine that would do anything. Before I left, I replaced my hard drive (upgraded to 1TB from 500GB). I restored off of the old hard drive with no problem. I also got more memory installed so I'm running with 8GB instead of 4GB. I have not installed anything or made any other noticeable changes since the problem began. Although replacing a hard drive is no small thing...
    - I have tried to reveal the photos in Finder to see if the original files are still in the source library. They are not. The organization now skips a number where my photos ought to be. Other than that I'm not sure how to fix it. I don't really have a backup from which I can restore.
    - There is nothing unusual about the setup, it's a standard Mac OS and I only use iPhoto with my iPhone and iPad.
I hope that helps give some information?

  • Unified photo library-projects in Aperture show up as empty events in iPhoto and cannot be edited

I have events showing up in iPhoto that used to contain images and now they are empty (black). When I try to drag the event to the trash I get the error message "This event contains Aperture photos that iPhoto does not support and cannot be put into the iPhoto Trash". But the photos all originally were from iPhoto and had been imported into iPhoto. What is wrong with my unified library? How can I fix this?

This is from my unified photo library in iPhoto:
event as it appears in iPhoto (it should have photos in it)
when I try to delete the event (move it to the trash), I get the following error:

  • Missing and empty Events after iPhoto 9.4 update - how to restore?

Hi folks, I updated to iPhoto 9.4 a couple of days ago and now many of my photo 'Events' are missing, and some are now appearing as empty.
Can anyone help me get my pictures back (ie restore the library to its pre-9.4 update state) -- when I used Time Machine to try to look at the iPhoto Library from before the update, the icon for the Library was like a plain white drive... do I need to relaunch the iPhoto App from Time Machine to restore everything properly?
As you can see, my Mac knowledge is still pretty thin and so I am loath to fish around too much in case I do some irreparable damage and lose my pictures for good. (my life won't be worth living if I have lost all the newborn pics of my kids... which is why I splashed out on 2 TB Time Machine) ...
Any advice and guidance would be very gratefully received...
    Thanks

Thanks Larry - a couple of idiot questions before I take the plunge...
    1) my iPhoto library *should* be backed up, right, given my Time Machine is backing up every hour, etc... or do I need to do something else to be doubly safe?
    2) When rebuilding my library, which tabs should I click? (Apologies for the uber-caution - I am totally freaked out by this now and paranoid I will lose EVERYTHING) Once I rebuild the library, will photos remain in their Events?
    Many thanks

  • Empty Events, Everything!  PLEASE HELP!

    Hi Guys,
I recently tried opening my iPhoto to find that all of my events and albums are empty!  They are all still there, and organised, and named in the same way as when I was last looking at them, but when I open an event, the only photo in there is the key photo.  When looking at event view, each event has a black and white picture of a palm tree, and that's it!  I checked in Finder, and my iPhoto library is still there, still intact, and still the same size as it was, so what's happened?
It keeps coming up with a message saying that picture migration from MobileMe was unsuccessful, but I haven't stored any of my photos on MobileMe at all!
Could somebody please tell me how to get all my photos back together?
    Thanks,
    From Liam

You could look at ContentBarrier which is part of Intego's Internet Security Barrier: it provides selectable preset filters but you can also configure filters with any parameters you like, choose trusted sites which will be allowed no matter what the content, and schedule allowed access. However it's not particularly cheap at £71.70 for the bundle with Virus Barrier and Personal Backup (it's not available separately) plus an annual subscription to keep the filters up to date.

  • IPhoto: empty events

I have a number of recent events showing as follows:
I have tried the repair and rebuild thumbnails tools.
The events are empty ~ the photo's have disappeared.
    The events cannot be deleted.
Any ideas?  To either restore the photo's or, at least, delete these 'ghost' events.
    Thank you

When the event is clicked, it opens with the photos that I chose for the event.
So when you enter the event you can see the photos, right? Are you able to view the photos in the Photo mode?
Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Empty Event Folders on OS Devices after upgrade to Photos for Mac

I recently upgraded to Photos for Mac and did the same on my iPhone and iPad. Even though some my iPhoto Events have synced, most have not. What is the reason for this error? Also, How can I add pictures from the Photos for Mac application to my OS Devices?

Events and Albums are not the same thing in iPhoto. Iphoto Events are converted to Albums when you migrate to the new app. Using iCloud library is probably the best way to access these on your iOS devices.

  • Iphoto import created hundreds of empty events

I used the iPhoto import plug-in to import a library of about 15,000 photos.  I can see albums and events, but there are hundreds of events, most of which have no photos that are named sequentially _1, _1_2, _1_2_3, etc ( there are also many events with proper names).  I just tried renaming one of the events with photos, and Lightroom is running very slowly; it has shown a spinning ball for about 5 minutes and has not completed renaming the event.  Since these are collections, deleting them should not cause any loss of photos, but I'm wondering if there is a better way to clean up these events.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Larry

I'm having this very same problem.
iPhoto Events which were named are coming into LR with names intact.  However, events which were unnamed (and displayed in iPhoto as a date) appear in LR with names as described above.
Some of the "Events" albums show up with no photos in them as well.
    Seeking solutions...
    - Perhaps there's a way to automate renaming of these LR Collections based on photo-taken date metadata.

  • Empty event folders, lost pictures?

    Hi,
I downloaded some pictures from a memory card into i-photo.  I looked at a few after they were downloaded. When I looked in events later they were not there but there was a grey picture of a plam tree with a sun in each event box under each date.  Does anyone know where these files went and if they can be recovered?  I can't find them anywhere.

    Fix #1

  • Empty events after upgrade to Mavericks???

I just launched iPhoto for the first time after upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5. I now have a number of my dated events that have no pictures in them, and are left with a generic grayscale event thumbnail with a palmtree on them in my library. I keep my library on an external drive due to size. Did I lose pictures from my library with the upgrade??

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Problem with time in Events

    Hi All,
I need help desperately. I have followed several suggestions from previous posts but none helped. I just re-installed ical and applied the entire 10.5.2. update and I still have the same problem.
When I create an event, the time always shows 15:54P.M. and regardless of what I have tried I can not change it! I have checked date/time settings as well. Nothing I can see that would make a difference.
I have also removed the cached files etc and moved the file to the desktop restarted iCal and I still have the same problem.
Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Here`s the screenshot.
    But anyway:
The drive is Makintosh HD from my Macbook and it is shown in the event mediathek and in the projects. Since I`ve recognized this problem I installed FCPX again and consequently the event and project directory created by FCPX is where it should be and it shows all the test events including it`s files.
So what happens? Opening FCPX you see only one event and that a new empty event. All previous events are not shown there even if you can see them in the finder. So if you import again the clips they are in this new event library. After closing correctly FCPX and reopening there again is nothing than an new and empty event. What it does is that it recognized that i.e. there are events with previous numbers and so it creates an new one with the next available counting number.
If you want to open one event from the finder it by clicking to the file it opens FCPX but it says it cannot open the clicked file.
