Empty favorite contacts on my home screen, N97 min...

Hello,
I am trying to add my favorite contacts to the home screen of my brand new Nokia N97 mini.
When I add the "favorite contact" from the content list, an empty (light black color) bar appears on my homescreen while I would have expected to have the contact names/pictures as  have 5 contacts marked as favorites.
Moreover, when I click on this bar, nothing happens, it looks lie the 4 spots are empty!
I have tried many other approaches (delete all favorite contacts, keep only one favorite, add new contact and set it as favorite) but it never worked!
For your info, in the content list I have "favorite contacts" and also "favorite contacts II". Is this due to the fact that I have 5 favorite contacts?
Could someone please help me?

Hi, restoring the backup, could have caused your problem, try a soft reset and JUST restore your contacts and calender, NOT settings ( the settings from previous software could cause conflict/problems, better to set up phone again manually )
Good Luck

  • How can I add an icon for a contact to the home screen?

New to iPhone and can't find a way to add a shortcut/icon for an individual contact to the home screen. I have looked in the user's guide and searched the web but no luck other than suggestions to download some type of app. This function has been available on two different Android phones I've used the past several years. Surely the iPhone has this capability???

That is not a standard feature on the iPhone. There are many features available on one and not the other.

  • Managing contact groups in E71 and N97 mini

It seems that the E71 does not support groups like older models used to: apparently groups are listed alongside contacts, and it is no longer possible to see and search groups directly. I'd like to see my groups straight away (e.g. clients, business partners, friends, etc), open and search them, rather than finding them among the contacts. Actually, this setup misses the whole point of classifying contacts into groups!  What on Earth was Nokia thinking?
Is there any way around this? A firmware update or a third-party app?
Also, how are contact groups managed in the N97 mini? Is it the same, or does that mobile finally allow you to see and search groups directly?

I am not sure on the e71 how to view groups separately, but on the mini, there are two tabs on top (or three if you ovi contacts), one for contacts, one for ovi contacts, on for groups. Just tap on the tabs.
Brilliant, thanks a lot! So Nokia finally fixed this!
Unfortunately user manuals are always more useless, and it seems the only way to understand these details is to ask other users...
Have you checked if groups can be synchronized between the phone and Ovi? With older versions of Ovi it wasn't possible.
Can you manage, sync and backup groups from the PC using Nokia PC Suite?
What's the difference between contacts and Ovi contacts? I thought the whole point of Ovi was to sync data between the website and the mobile. Can you instead keep two different directories of contacts and access them separately?
I wonder if 'groups' is just another field in the contact database, which gets saved when you export contacts to a csv file with Nokia PC Suite, or if groups are stored in some other ways.

  • I want a contact icon on home screen

Just got my first iPhone, model 5.  Would like to have a Contacts icon displayed on the home screen so I can get there with one touch.  I realize I can get to contacts through the phone icon but would prefer to have a straight shot to Contacts. Thanks!

You can also try going to the search screen and typing in contacts. If it is in a folder, it will display the name of the folder on the right side, as in this example. The folder name is circled in red.

  • Contact Groups On Home Screen

    Hi
Is there a way to put a Contact Group on the Home screen instead of the individual contacts?
    Regards
    Pete

The Xperia homescreen doesn't give an option to add a shortcut to a Contacts group. Then only way is to add each contact in the group manually to home screen and then put them all in a folder, which would be tedious. You could try a different home screen launcher or a different Contacts manager app that might support such shortcuts.

  • Contacts bar on home screen X6

    Hello,
I have changed the home menu today just messing about with my phone. When I went to put the home menu back to contacts bar it just goes back to basic (but with no tick to show it is selected). If I highlight contact bar in the menu then select options then set it says (no data). Any ideas. I just downloaded the last software last week and wonder if it is a bug.
    Solved!

Take out battery for some time like 10 minutes, put it back in, turn on, and try to set it to "Contacts bar". (Sorry if you did this already)
    OTHERWISE;
Backup your data manually, and reinstall latest firmware.
    OR
Dial this code *#7370# enter your lock code, default is 12345. it'll wipe c/phone memory so consider BACKUP FIRST without settings.

  • Favorite contacts on home screen of asha 202

    Hello everyone..
I just bought a nokia asha 202.. My problem is that I can't preview my favorite contacts on my home screen even though I selected favorite contacts for the home screen short cut.. It only says 'waiting'.. I had waited for a week now and it stills says 'waiting'.. I tried to update its firmware but another problem arises.. I used the nokia suite 3.4.49, and I encountered an error at the last step.. I read a thread here about a problem regarding firmware update and I think we have the same issue.. After downloading the software (24mb/24mb), it states that i need to wait 3049 minutes to complete the download.. And after sometime, it will skip steps and states that an error occur..
Do i really need to make the update, or is there a way to resolve my issue regarding the home screen? Hope for a solution..

    Hi genom219,
Thanks for your post and welcome to the forum.
Please completely uninstall Nokia Suite from your PC by following the instructions below.
    Windows XP:
Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
    Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Scroll through the list of installed applications, then click Nokia PC Suite
    Click the Add/Remove button.
Click the Uninstall button from the Nokia PC Suite window, then follow the on-screen instructions until the setup wizard has completed removed the program.
Restart your computer to complete the removal process.
    Windows Vista / Windows 7:
Click Start, then click Control Panel.
Click Programs, then click Uninstall a program.
Select Nokia PC Suite from the list of installed programs, then click Uninstall/Change.
Confirm that you want to remove the Nokia PC Suite program from your PC.
Restart your computer to complete the removal process.
Once Nokia Suite has uninstalled, please reinstall via this link.
Now connect your phone with Nokia Suite and create a back up of your phone's data via Tools > Back up. Make sure not to tick the Setting box.
Now disconnect from Nokia Suite and enter *#7370# into your phone and default security code 12345 (unless you've changed this code yourself).
Once the phone has rebooted, reconnect with Nokia Suite and click on the green arrow icon where an update will be displayed. Updating the software should work after a reset and reinstalling Nokia Suite, if you're still having issues after performing the above, use Nokia Software updater instead. Now go to Tools > Restore in Nokia Suite to restore the back up you've made.
The phone should display your favourite contacts on the home screen now. Please get back to me if you manage to resolve the issue, otherwise I can provide further support.

  • Contact on home screen?

I seem to have seen or heard before that an icon can be created on Iphone's home screen where the icon represent one of your contact. So in a way, instead of going to the favorites, just simply tap the icon of one of your contact on the home screen and it will automatically dial that contact's number. It may be an application that need to be installed in the Iphone from Apps store but I'm not sure. So anybody has idea?

Go to Apps > Widgets, then slide over until you find the Contact widget.  Press and hold, then place where you want it on your home screen, then let go.  You'll then be taken to your contacts ... choose the one you want.  You should now have that contact has a direct-dial on your home screen.

  • Home screen individual contact

Is there any way I can put an individual contact on my home screen?

you could send feed back to apple requesting this as a feature
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
if you could get a safari bookmark, save book mark to home screen "tel:+1-800-275-2273" you could use that to call the apple store. But I haven't figured out a way to set this as a home screen icon.

  • Speed Dial on Home Screen

This is a question/suggestion I think. I don't believe there is any current way to put contacts on the home screen as a speed dial button, if I am wrong, please correct me with instructions on how to do so. If I am right, however, I think a nice feature Apple should consider in putting in a future software update for iPhone would be to make contacts available as speed dial buttons on the home screen.

Follow these instructions to put a custom icon on the home screen. It's not speed dial exactly, but it's fun.
    1. Go to http://webclip.us on your computer (not on your phone) and click on "create now".
    2. In icon label, type what you want to call your icon.
    3. In URL, type either the URL of the website you want to link to, or for a phone number link, type http://##########.tel.QLNK.net (where ########## is the 10 digit phone number you want). You must enter the http:// - it won't work otherwise.
    4. In "icon file", click the arrow to browse to the photo or image on your computer that you want the icon to display.
    5. Enter the security code shown, then click "upload now". You will get a "webclip number".
    6. Now on your iPhone in Safari, go to http://webclip.us and enter the webclip number your computer just generated, and tap Go.
    7. Use the plus sign to add the icon to your home screen, change the name to whatever you want, and you will have a cool little icon with the photo you uploaded!
If you used the phone number option, when you tap the icon on your home page, it will launch Safari and then pop up "Call" and "Cancel" buttons to call that phone number directly. If you used a website URL, it will launch that website just like a regular webclip.
So I now have an icon with a picture of my husband's face on it that dials his phone number. Very cool!!

  • E71x emails on home screen

I installed Nokia Email on my E71x. The Nokia faq for this program says that E-series phones are supposed to display the subject lines of new emails on the home screen, but mine isn't doing this. Is there any way to get this to work?

well, it sound like you are using an n9, as the n900 has a widget for the screen to auto-update.
i think it would be great to have a live icon like the clock for the email too. but as for a widget...this device is not made like that. there are no real widgets aside from live icons.
so the only way to see if email is coming in at the moment is to see the threads/updates screen. and not even on the standby would it show. though that may be a possibility.
you could try to go to www.talk.maemo.org and place a new thread for application request to show live email updates on the standby screen. we already have billboard, which is cool...so in theary....it could work.

  • Help ota on n97 mini

Hello i am trying to update my n97 mini via ota but it just says checking for updates for ages ;is there a special server setting for ota or something please help im on three network

The answer is correct, however the answer for 2 is the 'breathing light' which is arround your menu button, if you go Menu-settings-phone-Notification lights-Standby br.light make sure it's set to ON. Then in Notification light set the period of time you want it to 'blink' and tick the events you want to be notified of !
For 3 there are only two shortcut widgets, but you can 'optimise' them by using apps that perform multi function, ie I have messaging (not txt or email) as one so I can get to all messaging facilities direct from home screen, Opera mini gives instant access to 9 pre chosen web sites (I have FB and Twitter amongst mine) and Snaptu , which offers a multitude of 'applicatios' direct to your homescreen !!

  • Nokia N97 empty home screen freezes out of nothing

Last week my Nokia N97 type RM-505 was delivered, and I had to hard reset it three times since then. I have updated the firmware to V 11.0.021. The problem is as follows:
The home screen freezes totally out of the blue. All the widgets are on screen, but empty, including the selected profile and date next to the clock. The only thing that works is the clock itself. The contacts shortcut has disappeared as well.
By using the menu button I can still perform most tasks on the phone, the phone is much slower however and the battery runs out faster. Reinstalling the firmware or going back to factory settings have no effect at all. The phone has been in this state for up to six hours, either on or off (with the battery taken out).
The problems seems to occur at random, once when I turned it on in the morning, once when using it and twice while not using it but when the phone was turned on. I used a hard reset (*#7370#) the first two times and the third time after I used the *#7780# reset.
I was thinking of returning the phone, but the last time it returned to normal after typing in *#0000#. I couldn't make out however if this was the cause for the phone going back to normal or that it was just a coincidence.
At this moment my phone functions normally, but I am quite worried that it will freeze up again and I have to perform a hard reset again. I have read on a Dutch forum that somebody had exactly the same problem, so if there are more people here please report, hopefully with a permanent solution.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi...
I was having the exact same problem with an N97 I bought 5 days ago. It randomly froze and all I could see was the clock working. But an added problem I had was that my screen and keys were both locked so I couldn't even perform a hard reset. So basically my phone was frozen, all my widgets were blank and all the keys were locked. The screen unlock key wouldn't work either and opening the slider wouldn't unlock the keypad either. My phone doesn't have a warranty either so I was on the verge of being royally scr**ed.
Luckily after searching around for a few hours, I found these steps to get the keypad unlocked long enough to perform a hard reset:
    1. Take out the battery and reinsert after 1 minute.
    2. Connect the phone to a computer and let charging begin.
    3. Turn on the phone with the slider open.
    4. This is important: Do NOT let the screen lock. Press buttons, the keypad button on screen, anything.
    5. Hopefully once a few buttons are pressed the numeric keypad on screen should come up.
    6. Use *#7370# and default code 12345 to perform hard reset (or soft, depending on your choice)
    7. Phone is back in working condition.
However once I had performed all these steps and reinstalled my widgets and stuff, I woke up this morning to find my phone stuck again with the keypad locked. After reading this post I connected my phone to the computer to unlock the keypad and removed the email widget. After restarting my phone it seems to be working just fine. Hasn't gotten stuck or anything for a few hours now. Hopefully the problem won't resurface and I will be able to update to the new firmware and have this issue resolved once and for all. Will post updates if the problem happens again.
    Thanks for all the info!

How can I get rid of that irritating contact/favorites across the top of the home screen?

Actually, that's not on the Home screen, it is on the multitasking or App Switcher view so only shows up when you enter that mode (so I'm not to clear as to why it is so "irritating", but whatever).
