Empty folders (from previews) after removing files

I see that LR still creates a separate folder for every preview, and that all the folders remain on disk even after you've removed images from the library, leaving hundreds or thousands of empty folders behind. On the PC, there is a freeware app called RED (remove empty directories) that works well. Run it on the Lightroom folder in My Pictures.

Thanks Frank for your prompt reply, when I click empty trash, it got rid of all the pictures in trash, but on the empty folders, however whe i exited the program adn restarted it again, the folders were gone as well.
Thanks again for your help

  • No thumbnails in finder/preview after exporting files as dng out of lightroom?

    Does anyone have experience sorting out the issue of no thumbnails in finder/preview after exporting files as dng out of lightroom?
    There are several conversations in the forum about this problem, but cant seem to find a solution.
    Anyone know how to sort this out?

    Thanks for your reply.
    Mac does support previewing dngs in finder and preview. This has not been a problem before (besides when using my fujufilm compact camera, which mac now has updated the Apple camera for).
    To answer your Q about dng files. Thats exactly what i do. I have work which involves communicating/transfering multiple lr -edited files to someone else whom further edits in ps. Not only that, I personally use dng as a way of storing my files. I suppose like to keep my files tidy and uniform.
    Any mac users out there who has a a solution to my issue with previewing dngs?

  • Deleting Empty Folders from Library

    When I first got Lightroom I uploaded a random bunch of folders of images. Now I wish to upload everything (which I have put into a single folder) so that I can retain the hierarchy of folders within folders that I have developed for storing my work on a dedicated hard drive.
    I therefore selected all of these random folders of images and removed them from the Library (it took 45 minutes). But now I find that while all of the image files have been removed, all of the empty folders that contained them are left in the "Folders" folder in the library.
    My question is, how can I remove all of these empty folders prior to uploading my hierarchical folders of files? In other words, how can I start over again from scratch? (I have upgraded to Lightroom 1.1)
    Thank you.

    Thank you all for your suggestions. What I finally did was to right-click, as suggested by Mel, on each folder (it wouldn't work for me when I selected them all) and select "delete" from the resulting drop-down menu. It took awhile, as there were a lot of the buggers, but now I'm clean and ready to go!
    Again, thanks.

  • Can not print from preview after Lion Update

         I can't print from preview since I updated to Lion. After I hit command P or select print from the file tab preview totally freezes up and gives me the spinning wheel of death until I force quit preview. I have no issues printing from anything else, such as word, excel, web pages.  So I don't think it's a printer/driver error.  Help?

    I would still mention what printer you have and make sure you have the latest printer driver.

  • Can't delete empty folders from NAS

    Hi all
    I have Mac Book Pro running Mavericks, and a WD World Book running as a NAS on my private network.
    Recently, I've been restructuring my files and folders on both my mac and hard drive.
    Having moved a large number of files across from the HD to my Mac, I now have a load of empty folders on my HD that I cannot seem to get rid of!
    I have tried all the usual things, and also the rm -r command but to no avail. It says that the folder does not exist!
    One other strange thing that is happening on the HD, when I 'Get Info', the top username in permissions is just saying 'fetching' and never resolves.
    Does anyone have any suggestions??
    Let me know if you need more info
    Thanks in advance

    Yes, it one of the problems you can encounter using Launchpad at the moment. You can try to drag another app in the folder and empty the folder again. Sometimes that folder disappears, sometimes not.
    There's a way to rebuild Launchpad but I won't not recommend that. It will bring Launchpad back in the default-setting, so you would have to start rearranging all over again, at the risk of having the same problems all over again.
    So, just wait until the first update of Yosemite comes out. That might solve your problem. If the empty folders bother you, you could try to drag them to a new last page, so they are out of sight for now.

  • Delete mail from server after removed from IN BOX

    I have a mail management issue I have not been able to fully solve.
    I am balancing the same POP email accounts among the laptop using Mail (for home use) and my desktop using Eudora Pro (for work). Using Eudora, I can manually select to delete a message from the server. Eudora's manual deletions are flawless. Using Mail, the only option I can see that will help me do this is to select delete mail "When moved from In Box." If I hit the "delete" key, wouldn't that be the same as "moving if from the IN BOX?" When is the protocol actually carried out? On the next mail check? Immediately? Upon quitting and restarting Mail? I'm confused as to how this happens and why it does not seem to work all of the time.
    Any and all assistance is most appreciated.
    Much obliged,
    Mick

    Yes, deleting a message counts as moving it out of
    the inbox. The commands to remove the message from
    the server are sent the next time you check mail from
    that server, but only if there are new messages to be
    received from the server. Yes, many of us feel that
    is a bug in Mail, that it should send the remove from
    server commands the next time you check mail, whether
    or not there are new messages to be downloaded.
    Oh Gawd, I bet that's it. Yes, if that is the case, I would agree. It does not lead to efficient mail management if there needs to be a new message there. Do you know of any plans to change or alter that? Or has someone written an AppleScript of some kind to execute the command regardless?
    It's a great command, otherwise. It's nice to be able to delete a message off of one computer and have it delete off of the server without any extra hassle.
    Just wondering if there are any workarounds out there other than sending oneself a new message to get the delete from server command to activate.
    cheers,
    Mick

  • Recover Image from Thumbnail after lost file??

    I accidentally saved a number of images at their original location (the CF Card) rather the converting and copying as usual. I have erased the CF card as usual so all I have are the converted Thumbnails. These Thumbnails actually look pretty good, so what I need to know is how to recover a set of workable images from these Thumbnails?
    Any Ideas/Suggestions?
    Thanks for any help.

    There is a whole thread no too far down on just this. Try a forum search on the main list.
    Involves doing a draft print from your preview (1:1 is best) if you generated them.

    either this way we can do this
    1)
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    <b> factory.setIgnoringElementContentWhitespace(true); </b>
    DocumentBuilder db = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    or
    2)
    java.io.StringWriter sw = new java.io.StringWriter();
    StreamResult sr = new StreamResult(sw);
    t.transform(new DOMSource(doc), sr);
    String xml1 = sw.toString().trim();
    <b> xml1=xml1.replaceAll("\\s",""); </b>
    System.out.println(xml1.trim());

  • Outlook remove empty pst folders from stores with powershell script

    I created a script that finds all pst folders in the My Documents folder of a user, moves those PST files and attaches the PST to outlook after they've been moved.
    If PSTs in a user's my documents folder was attached to Outlook before the script is run. after the script runs successfully in the outlook profile those PSTs would have two entries in the stores, an old reference that is because the PSTs have been moved
    those folders can no longer be opened in outlook and each time a user attempts to open the folder it prompts you to browse for the new location of the PST. Then the new entries in the stores which were added via the script.
    I want to add removing those empty folders or rather those folders with broken file paths from outlook to my script. Because of these broken folders i can't enumerate through the list of attached folders in outlook, the script errors outlook.
    I need help scripting (PowerShell) the task of removing broken folders from the outlook stores
    thanks

    Here is a sample of the kind of code you need to work with:
    $ol=New-Object -ComObject Outlook.Application
    $ns=$ol.GetNamespace('MAPI')
    foreach($store in $ns.Stores){
    if($store.IsDatFileStore){$ns.RemoveStores($store)}
    # use $ns.AddStore() to reattache a store.
    # inbox dor account must be retrieved and maintained.
    If you are not sure how to proceed then post in the Outlook Developer forum.  They should have many examples of how to move PSTs given different versions and scenarios.
    You can also find many examples here:

  • Can't delete a file displayed in ListView ("File in use") even after removing it from window.

    I have a ListView displaying a collection of icons. The user can then select different icons (checkboxes) to do things like Copy or Delete.
    Problem is, when I try to delete the actual file from the disk, I get an error telling me the file is "in use" ("vshost.exe", the VS runtime during testing).
    I thought maybe it was because it still appeared in the window and was still in the ImageList, but even after removing it from both locations, I still get the error. My code:
    Dim intCnt As Integer = 0
    Do
    ImageList2.Images.RemoveAt(intIconsChecked(intCnt)) ' Remove from collection.
    lsvCollection.Items.RemoveAt(intIconsChecked(intCnt)) ' Remove from ListView window.
    FileIO.FileSystem.DeleteFile(strIconPath & "\Icon" & Format(intCnt + 1, "00") & ".rsc") ' "+1" b/c Icons start with "01".
    FileIO.FileSystem.DeleteFile(strIconPath & "\Icon" & Format(intCnt + 1, "00") & ".png") ' "In use" Error here.
    ".rsc" deletes just fine, so I know I'm deleting the correct file. Why does VS still think the file is still "in use"?
    Thx

    Mugsy,
    Consider this as food for thought, even if you don't use it.
    If you set it up right then you can control how it works. A reference is a reference and any left behind will cause you grief down the road when you try to delete things.
    As an example, a simple class follows. It does *not* implement IDispose, although it does have a private shared Dispose method in it:
    Public Class MyImages
    Private _bmp As Bitmap
    Private _name As String
    Private _sourceFilePath As String
    Private Sub New(ByVal bmp As Bitmap, _
    ByVal name As String, _
    ByVal filePath As String)
    _bmp = bmp
    _sourceFilePath = filePath.Trim
    _name = name.Trim
    End Sub
    Public ReadOnly Property Bmp As Bitmap
    Get
    Return _bmp
    End Get
    End Property
    Public ReadOnly Property Name As String
    Get
    Return _name
    End Get
    End Property
    Public ReadOnly Property SourceFilePath As String
    Get
    Return _sourceFilePath
    End Get
    End Property
    Public Shared Sub AddNew(ByRef miList As List(Of MyImages), _
    ByVal imageFilePath As String)
    Try
    If miList Is Nothing Then
    Throw New ArgumentNullException("The collection of MyImages cannot be null.")
    ElseIf String.IsNullOrEmpty(imageFilePath) OrElse imageFilePath.Trim = "" Then
    Throw New ArgumentException("The file path of the image cannot be null or empty.")
    ElseIf Not My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists(imageFilePath) Then

    Else
    ' Should do validation here that the file
    ' is actually an image but I'll not do this
    ' here...
    Dim thisBMP As Bitmap = New Bitmap(imageFilePath)
    miList.Add(New MyImages(thisBMP, GetFileNameWithoutExtension(imageFilePath), imageFilePath))
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    Throw
    End Try
    End Sub
    Public Shared Sub AddNew(ByRef miList As List(Of MyImages), _
    ByVal imageFilePath As String, _
    ByVal imageName As String)
    Try
    If miList Is Nothing Then

    ElseIf String.IsNullOrEmpty(imageFilePath) OrElse imageFilePath.Trim = "" Then

    ' here...
    Dim thisBMP As Bitmap = New Bitmap(imageFilePath)
    miList.Add(New MyImages(thisBMP, imageName, imageFilePath))
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    Throw
    End Try
    End Sub
    Public Shared Sub Remove(ByRef miList As List(Of MyImages), _
    ByVal imageFilePath As String, _
    Optional ByVal removeFilePathAlso As Boolean = False)
    Try
    If miList Is Nothing Then
    Throw New ArgumentNullException("The collection of MyImages cannot be null.")
    ElseIf String.IsNullOrEmpty(imageFilePath) OrElse imageFilePath.Trim = "" Then
    Throw New ArgumentException("The file path of the image cannot be null or empty.")
    ElseIf Not My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists(imageFilePath) Then
    Throw New IO.FileNotFoundException("The file path of the image could not be located.")
    Else
    Dim findInstance As System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable(Of MyImages) = _
    From mi As MyImages In miList _
    Where mi.SourceFilePath = imageFilePath
    If findInstance.Count <> 1 Then
    Throw New ArgumentException("The instance of MyImages specified by the" & vbCrLf & _
    "image file path is not in the collection.")
    Else
    Dispose(findInstance.First)
    If removeFilePathAlso Then
    My.Computer.FileSystem.DeleteFile(findInstance.First.SourceFilePath)
    End If
    miList.Remove(findInstance.First)
    End If
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    Throw
    End Try
    End Sub
    Private Shared Sub Dispose(ByVal instance As MyImages)
    If instance IsNot Nothing AndAlso instance._bmp IsNot Nothing Then
    instance._bmp.Dispose()
    instance._bmp = Nothing
    End If
    End Sub
    End Class
    When you look through that, look specifically at the "Remove" method and in particular, look at the order in which things are done. That's the critical part in this.
    I tested it with a simple form:
    Two buttons, a checkbox, and a picturebox. I also copied a small folder full of image files to my desktop since I'll be deleting a file from it. Following is the code for Form1:
    Option Strict On
    Option Explicit On
    Option Infer Off
    Imports System.IO.Path
    Public Class Form1
    Private miList As New List(Of MyImages)
    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
    ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles MyBase.Load
    Dim desktop As String = _
    My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Desktop
    Dim imgFolder As String = _
    Combine(desktop, "Images")
    PictureBox1.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.FixedSingle
    For Each imgFilePath As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(imgFolder)
    MyImages.AddNew(miList, imgFilePath)
    Next
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = False
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = False
    End Sub
    Private Sub btn_ShowFirstImage_Click(sender As System.Object, _
    e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles btn_ShowFirstImage.Click
    Try
    If miList.Count >= 1 Then
    With PictureBox1
    .SizeMode = PictureBoxSizeMode.Zoom
    .Image = miList(0).Bmp
    End With
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = True
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = True
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    MessageBox.Show(String.Format("An exception was thrown:{0}{0}{1}", vbCrLf, ex.Message), _
    "Exception", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning)
    End Try
    End Sub
    Private Sub btn_RemoveFirstImage_Click(sender As System.Object, _
    e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles btn_RemoveFirstImage.Click
    Try
    If miList.Count >= 1 Then
    MyImages.Remove(miList, miList(0).SourceFilePath, CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Checked)
    End If
    PictureBox1.Image = Nothing
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = True
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = True
    Catch ex As Exception
    MessageBox.Show(String.Format("An exception was thrown:{0}{0}{1}", vbCrLf, ex.Message), _
    "Exception", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning)
    End Try
    End Sub
    End Class
    Running it is straightforward:
    Now when I click to show the first one:
    A different image is shown because that first one no longer exists - either in the collection or in the folder.
    Closing/disposing all references is the key and the order matters.
    Something to consider the next time around. :)
    Still lost in code, just at a little higher level.

    Scenario 2: remove no-recovery files from Azure Backup Storage.
    Scenario 3: move the files from backup target folder to other storage's folder.
    Now, To remove backup files/folder from Azure Backup storage, I seems to need un-register the servers, and register the server.

    Yoshihiro Kawabata

    Thank you Giri, for quick reply.
    I want to save the Azure Backup storage cost, now.
    I don't want to pay the Azure Backup storage cost for no-restore-need files until the backup point gets aged.
    and I don't want to remove / re-backup the restore need files by un-register/register operation.
    I feedback this issue to feedback.azure.com.

  • Loop Browser - Removing files/folders not indexed in the Apple Loops Index

    Hi...
    I experimented with dragging in a SFX folder to the Logic Pro Loop Browser window. It asked me if I wanted to copy files to the Apple Loops folder or reference the original files, and I selected reference the originasl files.
    The SFX files were then listed under the OTHER area of the View menu.
    Question... HOW do I remove these SFX files/folder from the OTHER view menu?
    I have tried deleting all of the Apple Loop Index files and that did not work.
    I have tried deleting the actual SFX files/folders, and after they disappear, but when I restore the SFX files/folders to their source location they reappear in the logic browser view menu.
    Is there some where else Logic stores Loop Browser reference data which can be deleted to remove these OTHER files/folders from the Loop Browser view menu?
    Thanks

    Success...
    OK I found the solution.
    1) I deleted the SFX audio files from the referenced HDD source location.
    2) I opened Logic and re-index the Loop Browser.
    3) I quit Logic and copied the SFX files back to the HDD.
    When I opened Logic this time, the SFX files/folders referenced under the OTHER menu were gone.
    Because I have a huge production music & SFX library, the best way to audition these sources for use in a Logic project, is to audition in iTunes and then just drag whatever I need right from within itunes into the Logic project.
    That keeps my Logic loop browser more manageable and focused on composing.

  • Bridge CS6 Previews of raw-files have bad (pixelated) quality after editing.

    I'm having problems with using Bridge for browsing my pictures. Preview quality of edited raw (nef) files is terrible. It looks like a very low quality jpeg. The untouched NEF's are fine, and saving the edited NEF as PSD also gives a perfect preview.
    Purging Cache doesn't work.
    I'm using:
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit Version: 6.1 Service Pack 1
    Adobe Bridge CS6 5.0.2.4 x64
    Camera Raw 7.3.0.71
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.0.1  x64
    2x Monitor 1920 x 1200
    Photo's made with Nikon D800E (7360 x 4912 px)
    See screenshots of settings. Any Suggestions?

    What I find frustrating is:
    1. Raw previews look like crap compared to the file itself.
    2. Its possible to generate decent previews by a complicated purging-process.
    I can imagine you are frustrated.
    There are two differences on my set up so I can't check, first I use a Mac and you are on Windows and I use Canon and you Nikon.
    However it should not result in this much visible flaws in the preview.
    There can be a lot of cache files but Camera Raw Cache is something completely different then Bridge Cache.
    Camera Raw is a .dat file and contains some info from the raw settings and probably other stuff that I can't find, it states being a video file but you can't play them.
    Bridge cache are jpeg files that you can view, even without Bridge, for example they can be opened in PS itself without problems.
    If you have set to build all at 100% then it will generate jpeg files in the original size at a high quality jpeg setting.
    As said, I have a Mac but Yammer or Curt can provide you with the correct path to find the Bridge Cache folder yourself.
    On my System this is in the user Library / caches/ Adobe/ Bridge CS6 and inhere is a folder called cache. This folder contains 4 folders.
    - 256   : contains the thumbnails, very small files (in the range of 10 to 50 kb)
    - 1024 : contains the HQ previews, relatively large files (500 KB to 3 MB, depending on the files itself)
    - data  : a text file containing all sorts of info, don't know what exactly but is a text file that also can grow to several 100 MB
    - Full   : in here are the 100 % previews settled and they can grow to huge proportions ( around 10 MB for 18 MP files, depending on file size and content etc)
    If you have set to keep 100 % previews in Bridge prefs this last folder (full) will be taking a lot of space on your disk
    If you also have set to export cache to folder it creates same size (hidden) files with this cache in the folder itself.
    I never understood the need for export cache to folders for several reasons, first and most important, I had a longstanding bug preventing me from doing so (error message about overwriting a CacheT file) but also each version of Bridge has a different Cache format and you can't read older cache files. Also reading the cache file (especially when on DVD etc) takes a very long time. For purpose of needing to view archived files on external devices you better select the 'Prefer Embedded' option, works faster ten reading earlier exported cache.
    Not sure how you did purge the Bridge Cache but in your case I would Quit Bridge and find the equivalent Cache folder on Windows (Yammer, Curt?).
    manual delete this Cache folder with all its content and restart Bridge.
    This provides you with a new, fresh but very empty cache file. You need to recache the lot for the previews.
    If you are not sure just try it for experiment, move the old folder outside the library and try it. If it does not make any difference just Quit and replace the old file
