Empty iPod, unable to snyc

i've had my iPod for 7 months, a few weeks ago i updated it, only to find that there was no music on it at all. i then tried to update it again, with the same to happen again. i then went on to the apple help site, which told me to manually sncy my iPod, again nothing, still no music. so i went back to the apple help site and followed the RRRR method. yet again nothing, including updating to the latest iTunes libary. the message i always get when trying to sncy my iPod is;
"Songs on the iPod "***** iPod" cannot be synced because all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist"
it was not till after all of this that i was told my nosey comeputer safety freak of a next door neighbour had deleted a lot of things off of the computer. i think that this involved some things to do with my iPod, what can i do to get it working again?
please help A.S.A.P, i'm lost without my iPod!

Hi 2-56,
It sounds like, before the problems occured, you were automatically syncing your iPod with at least a couple of playlists, possibly all of the playlists, in iTunes.
You are getting that message in iTunes when you now connect your iPod, because a playlist that your iPod used to be selected to sync with somehow got deleted.
As long as all of your music was backed up on your computer, this message is relatively easy to fix. While there could be a couple of different ways in solving this issue, I'm going to go ahead and pick one, which may not be the easiest way, but hopefully should work just as well.
Create a new playlist in iTunes (File > New Playlist). Name it whatever you want, but don't bother loading anything into that playlist, for now.
1 - Connect your iPod to your computer, and launch iTunes, if it isn't opened already.
2 - Click on your iPod's name in the Source List of iTunes (the left panel in iTunes).
3 - Go to the "Music" tab, and make sure that the "Sync" option is check-marked, with the "Sync Selected Playlists" setting selected, instead of "All songs and playlists".
4 - Now, deselect all playlists, except this new, empty playlist that you just created.
5 - Click the "Apply" button in the bottom-right corner of your iTunes screen, to save your changes.
Now, hopefully, your iPod will sync up again with iTunes, with nothing on the iPod.
From here, you can go back to the "Music" tab, and select the "Sync All songs and playlists" option. Again, click "Apply" to save your changes.
Again, your iPod should sync up with iTunes, and, hopefully, without any error messages or problems.
You can always create a new playlist(s), and go to the Music tab under your iPod's preferences, if you want to change what is selected to sync to your iPod.

  • HELP! Empty iPod!

I downloaded several more songs from my iTunes library to my iPod nano, and it came very close to being full. A message popped up on the screen about "syncing" my iPod, not sure what it was.
I must have messed around with my playlists too much, because now my iPod is EMPTY and when I connect it to the computer, iTunes says "songs cannot be synced because all the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist. I still have all my songs on iTunes though.
Please help!!! I am going abroad in a few weeks and must get this fixed ASAP! Thank you!!!

When your iTunes library exceeds the capacity of your iPod, iTunes will create a playlist from your library & will use that to sync your iPod. This is the playlist that you deleted. Simply make a playlist/s that you want to use to sync your Nano with, change iPod preferences in iTunes to sync the iPod to ONLY those specific playlists.

  • "can't mount iPOD" - unable to restore

    Hi,
I would greatly appreciate any advise on the following problem...
My iPOD froze, so I conducted a reset. After the reset the screen displayed an exclamation point and folder icon. After reading the support guidelines on the site I tried the following:
I put my iPOD in disk mode, and fully charged it up (however note that although I have had my iPOD for 14 months the battery still lasts for around 6 - 8 hours).
I ran my version of iPOD updater on my pc which stated "iPOD not readable - needs to be reformatted for use on PC". The only option available to select was the restore option which I tried and the following message was displayed "Can't mount iPOD".
I thought that this message may be because my version of updater and iTunes were old. Therefore, I installed the latest versions - 2005 -11-17 and v6 respectively. However, on trying to run the newer updater again I can't see my iPOD in iTunes, my computer / desktop etc. now even when in disk mode.
Eventually the message "can't mount iPOD" is displayed.
Any idea's on what to try would be great.
    Many thanks
    John

Alright. Let me start off by saying that my iPod issue is resolved. However, before I get to the solution, let me answer other questions raised since my last post.
I did try using a different USB port. I even tried my pc at work and it had the same results. Now, for how I resolved it.
After the last post, my iPod deteriorated to the point that it stopped working altogether. When resetting it, it would just come up with the Apple icon and then turn off. Without getting into all the details, I deduced that it was a bad battery. I invested $25.95 into a DIY battery kit. It was a bit dicey performing surgery on my beloved iPod, but with only minor scarring, I now have a fully functional iPod that syncs with iTunes and functions like new.
I'm not saying all "unable to mount iPod" problems are caused by bad batteries, but it could be one of the causes. Coincidentally, my problems started 16 months after starting to use my iPod. That roughly translates to 400+ charge cycles. That's when Apple says the battery performance will begin to deteriorate. I just wish Apple's SW would have some sort of diagnostics that's more accurate. I got the folder w/ the exclamation point, sad iPod and battery icon pictures before figuring out that I needed a new battery!

  • New iPod Unable to join the network after inputting password

    Got my iPod this am..
looked too good to touch no pun intended.
I went through the instructions, interrupted with an offer to update_, which I did.
I then saw that the iPod was off line and went to set up the connection.
I do have a Time Capsule but I just use it as an external drive, I use Ethernet connections between it my Netopia router/modem which provides my Wi Fi for another computer.
I have a WPA-PSK security on the Netopia.
My Wi Fi shows up on available networks, I am asked for my password but then I get a message "Unable to join the network"
I must admit that my password is long (and a bit racy) my fingers a bit big, but I know that I have got it right on at least a few occasions.
I have tried entering the details on "Other network" with the same result.
Could my WPA-PSK be a problem?
I would be most grateful for any suggestions.
Various forms of this problem have appeared on this forum, but I think mine is a bit different.
    Thank you.

    Thank you.
    Went through that pretty well.
Finally solved it in 2 steps.
    1. reset my modem/router to factory settings.
Odd situation, wireless settings, but dependent on ethernet connection.
    2. read a post from Hong Kong re strange network settings.
On his advice, into network, changed location from Automatic to one of my choosing.
    Bingo! everything came good.
Totally wireless connection. iPod jumped to it. Isn't it great when everything comes together?
I still wonder why it didn't take the signal from the WiFi part of my Modem/Router?
Probably just as well as it sorted my Time Capsule connections out, probably for the first time since I bought one back in early 2008, and its recent replacement when it joined the epidemic of sudden death recently.
    Cheers

  • Why did Apple make the new iPod unable to use Griffin iTalk or iTrip?

I was so disappointed when I upgraded to the new 5th gen. iPod and was unable to use the accessories I purchased for my previous iPod. Am I missing something? What am I supposed to do? Is there an attachment that will make them usable? Why would Apple make a new iPod that wouldn't include the same connector?

See below your so-called answer to my question.
I also noticed you have marked it solved. If, as a moderator, you can say that your response was considerate of the people using the system then I guess it was solved. If I was to mark it I would say the reply was very condescending and thus worthy of a 1 out of 10 as far as a reply goes. In the future please do not answer my posts as I would like to be treated with a little respect as I'm sure you would like. Please get some other Mod who can perhaps relate to a person's concern. Your answer may be correct but your way of putting it across sounds like some of the 13 year old school children I use to teach.
    You have a good day.

iTunes won't sync calenders and contacts from Outlook 2011 for Mac
    OS Mavericks 10.9.5
    iTunes 12.0.1.26
    Also tried on iTunes 11.4

I don't receive an error, i am syncing to iPhone and iPad... I connect the device to the MacBook with the cable, open iTunes and click on the device on iTunes then go to info tick sync contacts but it doesn't show me any contacts below, then tick sync calender and i could see the calenders and then I select the calender that i want to sync and press apply... the sync icon appears as if it is syncing and the disappeared after a few minutes.  When i check the iPhone or the iPad the calender and contacts are empty.
I have enabled the sync services in outlook for mac 2011 and ticked calender, contacts and tasks and select the account to sync and the outlook folder to add new items to but still it does not sync anything.
I went to the iStore technical support and the technicians were unable to help me they just told me that Apple has removed the functionality, to me it looked like they were clueless

my Ipod connects and syncs alright but after its done it goes in to a continuous loops of saying do not disconnect when I try to eject it mannally it says unable disconnect files in use by another application ....
It always worked fine before ?
I have rebooted my computer and reset and restored the ipod but to no avail..
Thanks for any help you can give

Set the preferences in all your antivirus/antispyware software to NOT scan iPods.
If you are manually managing your music or have disk access activated you will have to set your software to not scan external storage devices

  • Ipod unable to be restored

Ok I can't restore my ipod it says Theipod software update serve could not be contacted.
Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later. I don't know it's saying that because nothing is wrong with my network connection to my knowledge. I even disabled my fire wall yet still no fix. Also I seem to have another problem and which is the reason i am restoring my ipod in the first place. It says i have 4.72 gb's of music used and 958mb of "other" space used leaving me with 20 mbs of free space. *** is this other space. My itunes is up to date and my ipod software says 1.3 So i'm really at a loss here please help if you can.

I was in same boat w/my IPOD classic for last 2 wks (unable to restore b/c itunes & PC didn't recognize device). All it showed was unhappy face & apple logo. I'm hysterical b/c I just fixed it doing the MOST ridiculous thing>>slapping the back of my IPOD per a utube video I just watched! I had nothing to lose so I did that & it IMMEDIATELY fixed my ipod!! It was the least time consuming thing I've tried to do to fix this darn thing in 2 wks. I don't know why apple doesn't add it to their 'troubleshooting assistant' as the FIRST THING TO TRY! Even though it worked perfectly after that, I plugged it in & performed a restore just to be safe. (BTW, the only reason I use this old thing is b/c my ipod touch doesn't work w/Chrysler's (hardwired) ipod adapter. They haven't caught up w/technology I guess).

  • I am unable to switchoff the ipod, unable to goto previous menu

    Dear Sir,
I am having a iPOD NANO of 8GB. Problem right from the begging. once if I select any category (be songs or pics) from there onwards you can't go to another category. for example if u are listening songs u can't go back to pics.
And most difficult problem is that I am unable to switchoff the ipod.
Kinldy help me, I am getting frustrated being a new one.
    regards,
    srikar

Hi. Stupid question: Did you read the manual?
You can get back to a former menu by pressing "menu".
You can switch off iPod by pressing "pause/play" for 2 seconds.
Be sure that "hold" switch isn't in use.
    Hope that will help.

  • Ipod "unable to connect to network"

i have an ipod4, and i'm only unable to connect to my home router, my friend's ipod connects to it fine, but mine is having problems, i have reset network settings, turned off sercuity on router and was still unable to connect, i have gone into router and opened mac address too but still wont let me connect, any suggestions

I tried powering down the router. When it's off the iTouch does not recognize the network and then when it's powered on again, the iTouch recognizes the network. Unlike the public wi-fi spots that my iTouch responds to, where all the info like IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS etc are populated in the settings...my iTouch does not populate these fields at home even though it recognizes the network. I still get the unable to connect to network error. Could it be that my router is antiquated and can not support the iTouch? Like I said earlier, my Router does not recognize the iTouch as being attached to it.

  • Nike+ipod: unable to sync using my iphone 4

hi, i have been running using (interchangeably) my ipod touch and iphone 4. i am able to sync my runs with my ipod touch but is unable to do the same for my iphone 4. i always get redirected to the log in page after i key in my username and password.there is no error prompt during my attempts. hoe you can share some insights. thanks.

I agree, same problem essentially. This is what happened to me, I have a pretty new phone & this happened first crack.
I purchased 2 ringtones recently from my iphone off of the itunes store app. Great!!!
They worked well & all the time & appeared on the 'sounds' menu untill...
    The next sync to itunes.
Itunes copied the purchases, my laptop shows them sitting in the ringtone folder.
Itunes will not sync them back to iPhone.
I have tried drag and drop, and going through the sync iphone process.
Neither of these will work after multiple restarts & updates on both ends.
    Pretty please help!

  • IPod unable to sync at all

    Hey.
I'm taking off to bike the entire south island of new zealand, and so i have been getting an iPod togther.
I leave tomorrow. Figures this happens now.
I've been able to have it sync with my laptop just fine and i've put 1,700 songs on it so far. Before I unconnected it last time, I went into "my computer" and clicked on the E: iPod drive and put some actual Data files in the iPod (these files were clean).
Now, the iPod is totally unable to sync with anything. I plug it in, and while windows recognises something is there, it is unable to get anything from it. It says (after 20 min or so) that I should insert a disk into the E: drive.
iTunes is oblivious. I've tried reinstalling everything, but the same thing happens. I try to restore it using the iPod updater, but it just crashes each time i use it.
There is a "tick"ing noise the iPod makes about 10 seconds apart each time it tries to sync with the comptuer.
While it's trying to sync, the "Do not disconnect" display is on. However, i'm eventually forced to. After I reset, It plays just fine, except for the first half of the songs that begin with "A". Those are very slotchy, and it ends up having to skip them. But that's not a big deal.
What is going on here....and how can i fix it?
Any help would be VERY VERY VERY appreciated.

i know you might want to keep the ipod in disk use, but sometimes windows gets a little screwy when you do this.
    my reccomendations:
    1. uninstall itunes, ipod updater, and quicktime
    2. delete the quicktime, itunes, and ipod folders from your program files (use task manager to end ipodservice.exe before deleting the ipod folder).
    3. restart your computer.
    4. install itunes+ipod from the cd that came with the ipod.
    5. restart your computer.
    6. restore you ipod using the old updater.
    7. when its done restoring and itunes pops up, go to ipod settings (if it doesnt already) and make sure it automatically updates, and disable disk usage.
    8. before you tell it to update songs, go to my computer, right click on the ipod, and go to properties. go to the hardware tab, and select apple ipod usb device, click properties at the bottom, and make sure you have the right drivers for it. if it doesnt show any driver, let windows update do it automatically.
    8. go back to itunes, update, and enjoy! (hopefully)

  • Can't add songs unless I restore the iPod. (unable to write to disk)

    iPod Shuffle 512
Brand new XL SP2 machine with all windows updates
The only way I can put new songs on my shuffle is if I (1) restore it, & (2) let it automatically fill. If I want specific songs to load I have to delete some of the songs that populated the playlist automatically & hurry up & add the desired songs to the ipods playlist because once it's done uploading it wont accept any more songs. It will give me that "Unable to write to disk" error. In a nutshell, the ipod will only upload during the initial session immediately after restoring.
If I come back the next day or even just 2 minutes later wanting to add an additional song I have to start the process all over.
This happened using the newest version of iTunes as well as an older version (about a year old) that I keep around because I know its stable & one of the updates in between caused my video podcasts to be choppy.
Anything I can do or am I stuck?
    I knew I shoulda got a Mac!

In my experince Mac is no better than PC, its all in the user and how much you know. I fix more Macs daily than PCs. Of course all the PC I work on I built myself... lets see you build your own Mac!
