Empty preview folders

Just curious why LR leaves behind empty preview folders when you remove images from the library. Say you have 50k images and over the course of a month you remove 30k. You now have 30k empty folders in the previews folder.
They can easily be vanquished - RED (Remove Empty Directories) works well for the PC. I don't know if they have any impact on performance.

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Data' or 'Data.noindex'
That contains the thumbnails. They are tiny files and won't print well.

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.6.X MUD - Empty Presentation Folders Disappearing after checkout

    Hello ,
We are facing an issue when checking out a project from Master Repository configured in MUD environment.
Empty presentation folders in subject area's are disappearing when a project is checked out.
I confirmed Master repository has all the empty folders in Presentation Layer Subject Area, but the checked out repository does not have them.
Did anyone encounter this issue? Do you know if there is a patch supporting OBIEE 11.1.1.6.X version.
If "Yes" Can you please share the bug number?
    Thanks Again.

You most probably haven't set Application Roles in EM for external users.
Users belonging to application roles are only allowed to access OBI.
Check the existing BIConsumer application role, see if you can add external users, and if not, use 'Create Like'.

  • Empty Untitled Folders in Aperture

I migrated all of my events from IPhoto to Aperture, and I now have a bunch of empty Untitled Folders that create themselves every time I open Aperture. They are essentially ghost folders because they don't contain anything. I can delete them, but they continue to come back. Any thoughts?

What is your Aperture 3 version?
In Aperture 3,3 these untitled projects (not folders) can be created by the autpmatic import from Photo Stream. I'd disable the automatic import, if you have imported all images that you want and toggle the photo stream off and on the System Preferences "iCloud" panel.
I migrated all of my events from IPhoto to Aperture,
How did you do this? Are you using your iPhoto Library as Aperture library?  Then check in iPhoto for hidden photos. Any event with hidden photos will show as empty project in Aperture, and you csnnot unhide the photos in Aperture, only in iPhoto.

  • Why doesn't Mail empty Junk folders at every quit?

I select "empty Junk at quit" but still Mail doesn't empty those folders at every quit. Anyone know why this happens?

This is still happening to me with Mail v6.0 (1485) after updating to Mountain Lion.  I have to quit and restart Mail after resuming from sleep to get it to connect to any of my accounts.  One iCloud and one GMail account.
I have tried starting from scratch by removing all accounts, files in my Library ("Application Support" and "Caches" folders) and cleaned up my keychain, but still the problem persists.

  • How can I delete my empty music folders?

Using a Mac with OS X Mavericks: I recently deleted many songs from my iTunes library and simultaneously from my iTunes music folder.  My iTunes music is stored in this order: Music > Artists > Albums > Songs. Now, I am left with many Album folders that are empty because there are no song files in them. I am trying to delete all of these empty Album folders.
I already tried doing an advanced search (below) in my general Music folder, but no results came up.
Is there a way to search for all empty folders within my general music folder and delete them? I don't want to go into each individual artist folder to see which of their albums folder is empty and then delete those one by one. I would like to use a method that would show me all empty folders within the big "Music" folder. I am aware that I can use the Terminal app to do this but have been unable to find a source that clearly explains how to do it for a non-expert like myself. I am an amateur mac user so a beginner's guide to this solution would help. Thanks!

Since you are determined to solve this puzzle, I rolled up my sleeves & dove in -- starting with a refined search...
Some of the categories may be found under Other (which is found at the bottom of the list that pops up when you click on the button to the right of the button).
Before I took this screen shot, I selected all & then ticked Get Info -- obviously, just to view the confirmation dialog box.
On my machine, when I clicked on a folder, the path was revealed on the bottom bar. It was typically either Michael > Music > iTunes > Album Artwork> Cache > (####'s, etc...) [italics mine] or Michael > Music > iTunes > Album Artwork> Cloud Purchases > (####'s, etc...) [italics mine].
Disclaimer: If you do similar to what I have done, then select all, you could use the command in Finder > file > Move To Trash; however, the onus would be on you.   Notice how the System Files were specifically NOT included in the search parameters. If you don't empty the trash, then the folder(s) could (theoretically) be dragged back out of the trash & returned to their respective original location(s). Of course you could just select one folder, click on that, check the path for yourself, & decide to do a test drag to trash using said single folder. Then simply investigate the effect it has on your iTunes library.
Finally, you may also wish to see if any higher level ASC volunteers chime in as well -- as they oftentimes do when they come across a rather unique issue such as yours.
Click on the screen shot & it will zoom larger for you.
That's my story & I'm stickin' to it!

  • How do I delete thousands of empty Links folders in Safari 6 bookmarks?

I believe these may have accrued sometime related to the old Mobile Me, though not sure.  Deleting these one by one takes about 15 seconds each.  My slider bar is about a half inch high so I'm sure I have thousands of these sitting at the bottom of my "real" bookmarks -- beginning under the BooksmarksMenu entry.
I would be happy to delete ALL my bookmarks and start over if anyone has an idea how to do that...
    Thanks,
    Mike

That works for contiguous bookmarks "within a folder".  I'm talking about thousands of EMPTY FOLDERS.  I've tried a variety of key combinations.
Is there a way to just clear the whole thing and start over?
    Thanks

  • Purpose of empty iTunes folders?

I'm just curious about some folders that I see in my iTunes library:
    1. Folder name iTunes Music.  My media content, including my music, is in a folder named iTumes Media.  The iTunes Music folder is empty.  What is its purpose?  Can I delete it?
    2. Folder name Mobile Applications.  Again, this folder is empty.  What is its purpose?  Can I delete it?
    3. Folder name is Previous iTunes Libraries.  There are about 10 files in this folder, each with the following name: iTunes Library yyyy-mm-dd.itl.   Each has a different date, of course.  What is the purpose of these files?
If you know the answers, thank you for the education!
    Bob

    Hi,
If you have an iTunes media folder, you don't need iTunes music folder is not needed. All your music etc is in the media folder. If folder is empty you can delete.
Mobile applications - I presume that you do not have any iOS devices. Even if you delete this, iTunes will recreate anyway!!
Previous iTunes library may be required if you have problems with current one. These files are created each time there is an update. Keep the latest one, delete the rest.

  • Empty Finder folders don't display correctly in Mountain Lion

Anyone else experienced this or have a solution?
I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion last night (on a late 2010 MacBook Air). Everything went smoothly. But I have an irritating problem with Finder.
When opening folders (from sidebar icons or from main window icons), if the folder contains documents or subfolders Finder displays the contents of the folder correctly.
However if the folder is empty, Finder displays either the contents of the last folder that I looked at that did contain documents, or a strange jumbled mix of icons. These can be selected, but cannot be deleted, opened, viewed, etc.
So, for example, if I open my Documents folder (which has a lot of things in it), Finder displays the contents correctly.
If I then open my Downloads folder (which is empty), Finder either displays the contents of the Documents folder, or a strange mix of icons.
Any suggestions? The only workaround I've found is to set the empty folders to a different type of view (e.g. the detailed list).

I have a 2008 iMac and a 2012 Retina MacBook Pro. Neither machine has been hacked and neither machine has been modified from the way it came from the factor. The only thing my vanilla-flavored Macs have in common is Mountain Lion, which runs fine otherwise.
If I create an empty folder and attempt to open it, the Finder window has the same contents but the title of the empty folder. At some point there is no way to get out of the empty folder (except by opening a new Finder window). If you are outside the empty folder, at some point it cannot be deselected or deleted. (It can be deleted in the Terminal with the rmdir command.) Restarting FInder doesn't seem to help. You can only remove the folder in the Terminal.
If you create a new folder and immediately put something into it, it behaves normally, but if you remove that item from the folder, the weird behavior returns. If an empty folder has ever contained anything, you can't delete it in Terminal because it now contains a .DS_Store file. You can delete that file and then remove the foldler.
If you create an empty folder on the desktop, it will behave as expected. If you move that empty folder to some other place without putting anything into it, it has the weird behavior in the new location.

  • **Transferring project to new computer - EMPTY FILE FOLDERS??

I had a previous post on render issues...the render was coming out   very glitchy and fuzzy and like nothing I've experienced before...
So what I'm doing now is taking my CS4 project and transferring to a much better computer...that has CS5 Premiere Pro.
The project opens up fine but when it asks for the files - and I locate them on external hard drives...the folders are empty.
The files of these folders are absolutely fine and present when I open them from the hard drive on the computer.
I   also transferred the files from the hard drive to the desktop of the   new computer and the files are present when I open from desktop.
The only issue is when I'm in CS5...it's saying the folders are empty but they're definitely not.
This   doesn't occur for all the files...I grabbed some images (still images)   without a hitch...but the video's aren't pulling up and the voice  over,  music and sound FX aren't either...
So basically the only thing that works are the images.
I think I've experienced something like this in the past but I don't remember how I fixed it.
What's this all about and how do I correct it immediately.
The quicker the input the better....so I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could get back super quick!
Thanks - I really appreciate the help

David - wanted to let you know that your suggestion worked...well kind of
I found out that the issues were mainly with my computer - regarding the original post about intermittant fuzziness.
About the files not importing/folders showing up but not the files...
I opened an original  project. When I did that, the files within the folders magically...were  present.
    But it wasn't that easy.
I  had to get the original project into the newly created project so  the  easiest way that worked was copying and pasting the original  project  into the new project timeline.
But then, the files didn't show up again after I did this...
So  I forget what I did because I went through a ton of attempts but  I  finally got the files to show up and I linked each piece of media  with  the timeline elements.
All but one of the media elements linked.
It gave me an error message for the one that didn't:
The  selected file does not contain video media used by clip references in  one or more sequences. These video clip references will be deleted, and  cannot be undone. Do you want to continue?
That was an AVI video that didn't import but the rest of the AVI's with the exact same settings did import.
And the  computer I was on didn't play AVI video's (only the audio) -  which is what about 3 of the video elements in the timeline were  composed of. I donwloaded  codec's from DivX and I think Microsoft  codecs and maybe one more set of  codecs that all were supposed to have  AVI within them but the computer  still only played the audio.
So I rendered that portion (video file that didn't  import) on old  computer at super high data rate to combat the fuzziness  and brought  that video into the timeline and went on with the rest.
So I don't know what was up but I kept going til I found a way.
Thanks for your help David and everyone else

  • Empty iTunes Folders

Why does iTunes leaves behind many empty folders once it moves the songs to other folders? Let me explain further. You see I have it set for iTunes to manage my music. So, when I update ID3 info for example correcting the spelling of an artist name, song title or correct the album title. It creates the new folder but leaves behind the old folder. Is there a way to remedy this?

I guess I have to individually check each folder in the iTunes library to determine if they are empty or not.

  • Outlook remove empty pst folders from stores with powershell script

I created a script that finds all pst folders in the My Documents folder of a user, moves those PST files and attaches the PST to outlook after they've been moved.
If PSTs in a user's my documents folder was attached to Outlook before the script is run. after the script runs successfully in the outlook profile those PSTs would have two entries in the stores, an old reference that is because the PSTs have been moved
those folders can no longer be opened in outlook and each time a user attempts to open the folder it prompts you to browse for the new location of the PST. Then the new entries in the stores which were added via the script.
I want to add removing those empty folders or rather those folders with broken file paths from outlook to my script. Because of these broken folders i can't enumerate through the list of attached folders in outlook, the script errors outlook.
I need help scripting (PowerShell) the task of removing broken folders from the outlook stores
    thanks

Here is a sample of the kind of code you need to work with:
    $ol=New-Object -ComObject Outlook.Application
    $ns=$ol.GetNamespace('MAPI')
    foreach($store in $ns.Stores){
    if($store.IsDatFileStore){$ns.RemoveStores($store)}
    # use $ns.AddStore() to reattache a store.
    # inbox dor account must be retrieved and maintained.
If you are not sure how to proceed then post in the Outlook Developer forum.  They should have many examples of how to move PSTs given different versions and scenarios.
You can also find many examples here:

  • 12 empty bookmark folders keep appearing everytime I reboot iPhone 4S 5.1

I turn on iPhone 4s with the 5.1 software and 12 empty invisable bookpmark folders appear on the last page.  I delete them.  Next time I reboot they appear again.
    What gives?

If you are syncing to iCloud,  it may be reinstalling them off your iCloud backup of your bookmarks.  You may need to delete them off of there.
    Hope this helps

  • Empty desktop folders

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered before.
I recently installed a 2012 R2 server into my old 2008 R2 domain. Updated the schema, made my new 2012 server the master in all respects. I find that when my Windows 8 clients log on, any folders with shortcuts in them on their redirected desktops are empty
but only for about ten to fifteen minutes, at which point they become populated. Any ideas?
Also, I notice that the policy templates on my 2008 server are different to my 2012 server. Is this because I need to set up a central store? Replication seems fine.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
i'll answer your second question first:
the adm files are local to a machine (no replication involved here). There is no need for a central store. The adm files are only used for cosmetic purposes (to display settigns in rsop or group policy editor). When the policies are applied ,the adm files
    do not matter.
You can install updated adm files on the 2008 servers to get around the cosmetic/display issue or if you want to configure 2012 specific settings from your 2008 dc.
Your first question is not entirely clear to me. let me re-phrase; please correct my statements:
    Your users have redirected desktops.
the folder they redirect to contains shortcuts
if users click the shortcut, they see an empty folder
After a while the shortcuts seem to redirect to valid destinations
Do you have offline files turned on? Are the shortcut destinations included in offline files?

  • Empty music folders!

I just moved a hard drive with my iTunes music folder on it into my 'new' G4 tower.
I pointed iTunes to that music folder but nothing showed.
I made a new music folder and tried to Add the old folder to Library but nothing.
I poked around and found a music folder in users/me/ etc on the moved hard drive (I had partitioned it into a boot volume and a storage volume) and Added that to Library but that omitted everything I ripped in the last month or so.
The music folder I added from didn't have folders for the music I ripped lately.
The music folder I thought I was using does have folders for all the music I ripped right up until I moved the hard drive but those folders and all the others actually, are empty.
    I'm very confused....
    G4/1.2Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes 7

If it's the last file in the folder then iTunes should delete the folder too, and if that's the last folder in the parent folder then the parent should go as well. I.e. if you delete the last track by a given album artist then the album & the artist folders should both be removed.
It doesn't always work that way on a PC where Windows Media Player has had access to the same media, as WMP creates thumnail artwork in the folders, so when the last track is deleted there can still be orphaned artwork in the folder. I have written a windows script called CleanDearArt for just this purpose. If for some reason iTunes can't/won't clean up on a Mac then there is almost certainly a tool to do it at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

  • Empty launchpad folders

After I upgraded on OS X Yosemite, in Launchpad appeared empty folders. How I can delete it ?

    Hi there,
    the same for me.
Lanuchpad is empty and even if in application's folder all the Apps are there. It seems like is missing a link between the apps because also from MAS it says I could download the Apps that already I have installed!
I tried download and install Yosemite again but ni changes. Worse.. in launchpad the Yosemite icon appears with a question mark on it!
More: finder always come in "simple mode" and I have always to insert admin pwd to use it.
Switch off, reboot and other voices in the menu are missing. I have to logout from my user and from the main screen then chose to switch off the machine.
    Horrible...
    Some suggestions?
