Empty the App Store Download Cache

Hello,
I just finished installing a 16GB game from the app store, Deus Ex Human Revolution. After installation, I have an error message in the app store, even though the program launches fine and everything works. I also have what amounts to 32GB of space taken up on my drive now, which leads me to think that the install file was not deleted by the app store upon the completion of installation. I have restarted the computer and the app, and gone into ~/library/caches and deleted everything inside to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
OS 10.10.2

10.9 didn't come on a disk. Where did you get the disk? Obviously the install is incomplete.

When I go to update my software using the app store download, it always asks for the previous user's ID, not mine (my IT guy at school's-I am a faculty with admin priviledges).  I have signed in as me, have set the main preferences login user as me,and everywhere on the laptop I can use my apple ID except here.  It always shows me a greyed out ID of my IT.  How can I reset this to my ID? It doesn't give me an option to change the user ID, only a link to reset password.  I reset it, but it did not change the problem.  Can someone help me?

It's not an ID problem, it's an ownership problem.
When someone uses their personal Apple ID to buy and download content, the content is licensed to them and has their Apple ID engrained in it's DNA. It is an anti-piracy program. And when that personal Apple ID is used to setup a new Mac, it involves the Mac itself, the shipping OS and any pre-installed apps as well.
It's not the correct way to handle Macs that belong to a business or an institution. And had it been handled correctly they would not now be in this predictument needing a drastic remedy.

  • Why is the app store downloading a complete OS x Lion to my 10.7.3 late 2011 MBA?

My Macbook Air 10.7.3 seems to be operating well.  Why is the App store completely updating my os? (4.04GB download)

If you have a copy of an older installer left on your system, it's updating the installer to 10.7.3.

  • Bought Lion through App Store.  It is my understanding that Lion can be loaded on all machines owned by the same family.  But, I cannot find the download when I go into the app store in my "purchased" file.  Don't want to buy it again if not needed.

Upgraded to Lion via the App store download.  After reading many posts, it seems that I can load Lion on my other imacs.  However, when I sign into the store and check my downloads, Lion is not there.  Don't want to purchase more software If I don't have to.  Any Suggestions?

On your other Macs, Open ->App Store and Sign in with the same Apple ID and you should be able to d/l from the Purchases Tab

  • How do I download xcode4 from the app store?

It failed a few times during the download but when I restarted it it started again from where it left off. This was good.
However the last time it failed it changed something as when I retry it now it starts from scratch.
It took me about 3 days to almost complete the download so I don't think I am going to successfully download a 4.5gigs XCode file
    without any download interruptions.
I have tried copying the pkg in Library/Application Support/App store so that I can get it to start from where it left off. However whatever I try it always seems to go back to 0 bytes when resume is clicked. This is a trick I learnt in Firefox that I used when downloading previous XCode versions(xcode3). However this does not work for me.
    Thank you

I have just tried downloading xcode3 from developer.apple.com using firefox, and the resume in firefox works fine, even after a firefox restart.
The app downloader had over 4gigs worth of data saved, then there must have been some problem, then the amount of data saved must have gone back to 0.
How does the app downloading program decide to zero out the saved file data? Is there any way to inflence this or somehow make manual backups, like I could with firefox.
I do have broadband, but its a slow broadband. I did have to reenter my username and password a few times during the download process, probably because there was some sort of cookie expiry happening. However this worked fine.  However something went wrong at the end. maybe it was because I clicked the retry in the pop up, rather than the retry next to the app store download progress bar.
If there was a flag or something that said whether or not to resume or retry from scratch then I could maybe edit that and it would help.
What happens now is that when I click pause, the data is written to the .pkg file, which is correct.
However when I click resume the file size immediately goes back to zero.

  • I would like to know how I might find the OSX 10.9 Install file that the app store put on my hard drive.  Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

The app store download is so slow at my house that I don't want to do it more than once and I don't see the file anywhere, even looked for hidden files.  But Directory structure is dense and I surely haven't looked everywhere yet.
I would like to archive it on media that is physically independent of my mac.
Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

  • I just got a new Macbook Pro with Retina Screen.  Im new to Mac Computers.  I understand that there is Microsoft Office that runs on the Mac. Where do I find it? I didn't see it in the app store.  Thanks

Where can I find Microsoft Office for the Macbook Pro?  Couldnt find it in the App Store.

Download if, after you pay for it.  You could buy a DVD, vut you would need a DVD drive: http://www.microsoft.com/mac

  • What is included in the app store version?

Does the app store download version of Aperture include the tutorial files? I'm pretty sure I'm going to want those.

No  you only get the application from the App Store.
But given that to get the tutorial files you would need to buy the boxed set and pay a lot more then what you will spend at the App Store, use the money you save to buy a few good Aperture books.

  • App store download location?

I'm in the process of cleaning up my home iMac and backing up digital files to external drives.
I've brought quite a bit from the itunes store and all these files are kept in the Music>iTunes folder, which I can back which will save me re-downloading it again. As for the App-Store downloads, - where is this download folder located?? I dont want to redownload these big files again!
    Thanks in advance!
    Chris.

I wanted this information because I had a problem upgrading iPhoto to 9.4.3 and not even the Genious Bar™ was able to make it update. It was suggested I may need to reinstall Mac OS entirely. If I was going to have to do that, which would take days as I use a lot of large proprietary software implementations such as Adobe Creative Suite which would also have to be deactivated, reinstalled and reactivated, I decided to try to fix it myself. So I checked my Time Machine backup, turned off Time Machine and had a poke around on my disk. I know that Apple prefers we don't look at our filesystems this way, however, it has been maintained in many court decisions that the contents of our hard drives are ours to do with as we please. USE THIS INFORMATION AT YOUR OWN RISK.IT'S MORE LIKELY THAT THIS INFORMATION WILL HELP YOU HELP A TECHNICIAN SOLVE THE PROBLEM THAN FIXING IT YOURSELF WITHOUT A KNOWLEDGE OF BSD AND UNIX.
I know it's been a while, however, there is better information available about App Store download locations, this information should be handled very carefully as you'll be viewing areas of your filesystem that are not considered ‘end-user friendly’.
For instance, I had a problem with my Internet connection and received a corrupted PKG for my iPhoto 9.4.3 update. The update refused to install even after I uninstalled iPhoto and asked it to reinstall.
I viewed my Console when attempting to upgrade iPhoto and saw that it was attempting to access a PKG file called:
    mzpsxxxx03867858650xxxx.pkg
from a Console system message entry that looked like:
    26/06/13 12:34:39.041 PM App Store[4183]: PKDistributionController: Found asset mzpsxxxx03867858650xxxx.pkg on disk for item 4xxxxxx1 - Size 2xxxxxx2
Upon searching my filesystem with a command in terminal, I discovered that the corrupted PKG file was located at:
    /private/var/folders/6x/g122yp5sxxxxxxv149g440000gp/C/com.apple.appstore/40898xx xx/
This location is likely to be referenced by an internal OS database, and I basically just had to hope that removing the file would allow the database to clear the entry and force the PKG file to download again.
I deleted the file and restarted, asked iPhoto to install in the App Store, and everything went smoothly. After 20 or so other attempts, following Apple's support info, and asking colleagues, this was the ONLY solution to the problem without completely reinstalling Mac OS.
It's interesting that we don't find much information about these storage locations or information about solving App Store problems when PKG files get corrupted during transfer or installation, it's likely that Apple scrubs this information from the Apple Support Communities and I'll be curious to see how long this post lasts on the site.

  • My existing purchases have INSTALL next to them, but when I try click on them it says "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)". I've tried restarting, clearing all caches, buying and downloading new apps (which works). Any idea

    Hi - in the app store, I've logged in with no problem, but when I go into my existing purchases and have INSTALL next to everything I've bought, and try to click on them it says;
"There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)".
I've tried restarting, clearing all caches, buying and downloading new apps (which works), and also buying and downloading more music from iTunes too (so I update all T&C's etc too, and update all payment info). But nothing seems to solve this. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot, Greg

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It makes no changes to your data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ls -@Oaen L*/Coo* | pbcopy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear below what you entered.
The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. If the command produced no output, the Clipboard will be empty. Paste into a reply to this message.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

    Disable anti virus software.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy) > Firewall
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
    Click Go
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go
Move these files from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
    com.apple.appstore.plist
    com.apple.storeagent.pllist
    Now here:
    ~/Library/Cookies
    Click Go
Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, try the App Store.

  • Sign in to download from the App Store screen has the wrong Apple ID- grayed out. How can I change it?

When I have a software update notification and I go to the 'Updates" tab of the App Store and click 'update',  the flash screen 'Sign in to download from the App Store comes up the the Apple ID is wrong and grayed out so I can't change it.  Where is the bogus Apple ID stored? How can I 'ungray' it to make it editable?
I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on an IMAC 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
    1. Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    2. In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
              File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
              Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
              Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
              Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
    4. The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.
If you find these instructions confusing, ask for an alternative method.

  • Cannot download from the App Store

    I have tried many things:
Used the Activity Monitor to stop "storeagent"
    Terminal to:
    rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
    rm -r ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
    rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    rm ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
    Sign-out/Signed back in iTunes/App Store
    Changed password for iTunes/App Store
Verified Account including Credit Card Info
    Repaired Disk
    Repaired Permissions
    Reloaded Mountain Lion (ML)
Verified Programs (ML, iTunes) were up-2-date
    Disabled anti-virus software
    Disabled Firewall
I can purchase Apps or purchase songs from iTunes; just cannot download.  I get "An error has occurred" (on Purchases Page)  I get an alert when downloading from the App Store to go the Purchases Page and try downloading.
This is on my MacBook Pro running ML. (v.10.8.2)  I can sign into my account using my wife's MacBook Air and download all day in either iTunes or the App Store.  I can also download with my iPad.
I really am at a loss.  There may be more that I have done but right now I am burnt out and tired of this.  Apple Support has been no help.
I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Tks in advance.
