i got my computer back from the 30 GB to the 100 GB upgrade and dragged all my old files into the new hard drive but then i found out ichat would load, then disappear, address book was empty, ical schedules deleted, and the security pane of the systen prefs unexp[ectedly quit. any solutions?
Hi Mike, The problems in your two posts are interconnected, i.e. your 'Home' folder has been renamed. Follow the advice in Dr Smoke's Recover from Renaming your Home Folder.
Whatever you do, don't mess with the name in your backup, that's your lifeline.

I'm trying to create a few lead sheets that will display chord symbols, and ideally the melody as well. Sounds like it's easier to write in the chord symbols manually using the chord tool from the text box, but how do I create an empty midi region as stated above? The score editor will only open if there is information in a region somewhere. I could play one note I guess...but how's this empty thing work? Also, would you recommend using lead sheet from staff styles in the layout menu? Most jazz charts use a piano staff, melody up top, chord changes in the bottom. Perhaps I need to work backwards and set up the staff styles first, then record into them?

Difference between logical and virtual terms
Hello,
This is not purely oracle question; but in documentation so many times we find 2 terms:
A. Logical
B.Virtual.
So what is the principle difference between logical and virtual? As I know physical is that which I can see and touch; while logical/virtual is that is imaginary. We say tablespace is logical not virtual; while Java Virtual Machine; not Java Logical Machine. So I want to know; what is the principle difference; why two words for an imaginary thing. Before posting question; I searched in google as “Difference between virtual and logical” but I couldn’t found the answer.

I wont say that I am correcting you as this is like that half glass full/empty thing.May be what I see is half empty , you would see the same as half full.
Well now coming to the explanation.I am saying honestly , I got more confused after reading your definitions.What do you mean by saing that tablespace is not virtual.I see it as purely virtual.We don't say it as virtual tablespace or logical tablespace but it is actualy logical/virtual, having no existance but just the definition right?
How can you say that the size of virtual is larger than logcial?The size of tablespace is actualy the sum total of size of datafiles.So it actualy becomes very larger right?Much larger than JVM which is of few megs only.
The point 3 totally knocked me out.I have no idea what you said.
Ok I tell you this.Just remember the definition that Hans gave already.If you ask me than its the best definition that we can have. Just remember this and if some one asks you more further than give them your point 3 definition and tell them understand this ;-).Please don'tmind I am just kidding. Its just semantics.Don't get lost into it.You will find many people using both the terms interchangibly. So its ok.I shall stick with Hans's defintion,simple and concise.There are lot more other topics to dig upon in oracle.I can mail you lots of them.Spend time on those.Don't think that I am demotivating you.I understand you asked only because you have a doubt.But we got a good resolution of it and beyond that, its not of much use to dig it atleast not in the technial terms.

If you highlight certain items in the trash and then go to "empty trash" will only the highlighted items be deleted or everything? My problem is several items I can't afford to loose were incorrectly put in the trash. Unfortunately there isn't enough space in the hard drive to take them back out. I don't want to empty the trash for fear the good will be deleted as well as the bad. If I can trash one thing at a time perhaps I will be able to open up more space on the HD to fix the situation.
Or, if you're comfortable, very comfortable, in Terminal:
sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash
This will zap all files except those that are immutable or in use.
'sudo' executes the command as root and therefore overrides all permissions
'rm' removes files
'-r' does it recursively - ie to all nested files and directories
'-i' is confirm mode - you will be prompted for each file to delete, and I suggest to use this as a safety precaution. If you have many, many files tedium may set in, so you can replace the '-i' with '-f' (force).
This will continue to empty things immediately upon entering trash, so log out and back in to re-set the command. Once you've confirmed what you wish to keep, do this.

How do I go about unlocking items in the trash so I can delete them permanently? I try to empty the trash and it comes up with the message "The operation cannot be completed because the item _____ is locked."
Or just hold down the option key while you click on the Trash icon in the Dock and select Empty Trash there. Personally, I've managed to empty things doing this that I really shouldn't be able to delete.

I've set up my gmail account with my iPhone,
The problem is that my iPhone is showing me messages that i have already read; that i have already erased, etc. (in mail.app from my mac)
What should i do in order to have mail.app (mac) and mail (iphone) really synchronised?

K.If i understand you what your asking is not possible. You first say you want your mac mail and iphone mail the same, but then you say you want to be able to delete messages on your mac and leave them on the iphone...its one or the other.
POP access will download the message to whatever device you access your mail with first. There are options on the iphone that allow you to leave a copy on the server, so if you get it on the iphone you can still get it on your computer. The catch to this is that you now have two copies, if you delete it on the iphone or compuetr it will not reflect that on the other device. With pop you delete on your iphone and the message remains on your computer.
IMAP access will allow multiple email clients to access your mail boxes on the gmail server. Any device you use with imap shows the same thing. Email on computer would show on iphone and in gmail website. Delete a message and its gone in gmail, on computer , and on iphone. Note that i believe that only outlook lets you actually empty the gmail trash folder, other than that you have to go out on the gmail website and empty the trash or let it auto-empty every 30 days.
Imap reflects whatever you do on ALL email devices/clinets, pop does not. Also using gamil wake sure to go on to their site and set your settings correctly. You should tell gamil to only show you new messages, not everything you have. Also note that gmail and the iphone have a bug. Any email you send thru gmail places a copy of that email into your gmail inbox. This can be quite annoying, so you have to set up a filter you delete any message that come from yourself.
The trash emptying thing, the filter thing, and the starnge way gmail does imap made me eventually drop gamil and try a yahoo push mail account. easier to use, but not as reliable. Hope this helps. -
What I did with my $100 store credit (iBluetooth review)
I finally redeemed my $100 store credit today and picked up the iPhone bluetooth headset. If you read the reviews of it, they are very very mixed. Lots say its bad, static, etc all. Lots say its good. If you havent seen it or used it before read this.
First off, its extremely small and comfortable in my ear. Ive already forgotten it in there twice since I got it this afternoon. Its very sleek looking to the point of almost being unnoticeable, unlike those larger ones that blink with blue lights and you look half borg. It fits great in my ear, but might not for everyone. If the headsets that come with the iPhone fit in your ear comfortably, this will too. If they dont, then this headset may not be for you.
In the box.. The box is similiar to that of the iPhone in design. Open it up, you have the bluetooth, a cool USB dock with an added port for the bluetooth headset, and another travel cable that charges both the iPhone and the headset at the same time. Very slick. It does NOT come with the wall adapter or an adapter for your cigarette lighter in your car. So, just a dock with atttached (non removable) USB cable, and the travel cable. Prety slick, both of them. It also comes with 2 foam pieces to slide over the earpiece to make it fit more comfortable. I dont need it, they are still in the bag. Its very comfy as is.
Connecting it. Piece of cake. I plugged the dock into my USB on my computer, plopped the iPhone in it and let it synch up with my iTunes. Worked fine. Why wouldnt it. Then I put the headset in its hole in the dock, and something pretty cool happened. Well, first my computer found the device. Why, I dont really know, but it did. Then next, the iPhone lit up, the usual battery you see "slid" down the screen a bit, and a new image appeared on the iPhone on top of the battery icon of the headset, and it too started to fill up with green as it was charging. Very, very slick. So when they are in the dock, not only can you see the status if your iPhone charging, but you can see the headset as well. Cool.
Usage. Most of the complaints for this device was static and lack of distance from the iPhone. I tested it out and found that yes, the distance is a bit limited for sure. 10 - 15 feet away from the phone I started to get static. My motorola headset I can walk all over the place around my house (ranch style) and not lose signal unless Im in the far corners away from the iPhone. But, ok. So I usually have the iPhone laying around or in my pocket. Really not a big deal to me. Under the 15 feet from the iPhone, no troubles at all. Crystal clear audio, easy connecting, picking up calls, etc. Callers said I sounded great and I heard them perfectly. There is no volume control on the headset itself, its controlled by the phone.
So. I like it. Its worth spending your store credit on. The base and travel cable are awesome. The device is slick, the connection to the iPhone simple, and the sound is good, as long as you stay within range of the iPhone.
Pros:

inter-0perability with the iPhone and its immediate recognition of it
Size and appearence
Fit (for me, as I mentioned, maybe not for everyone)

So first let me start by saying that I've owned the Jawbone since January 07 before most new what a Jawbone was and it does work as advertised. The problem I had with it was comfort. It didn't matter what combination of earbud and earloop I used, left ear or right ear, over a period of time it started to put pressure on my ear and hurt. The sound quality was always very clear (w/my Treo 750) but thin an tinny or hollow sounding and because of it's size it was always a chore as to were to put it when I took it off my ear. It doesn't fit well in a pants pocket without the fear of breaking the earloop off.
So when I got my iPhone and started to get bored with the Jawbone I decided it was time for something new and I got the Apple BT. As markdr reviews, everything about it is "cool" and I wanted nothing more than to really like it despite all of the negative reviews I read the only way for me to know was try it out myself and draw my own conclusion. I used it for about a week and had terrible static so I took it back to the Apple store and exchanged it for another thinking maybe I had a defective one. Well the second one does work way better than the first but still has static which is annoying as heck and I continue to have connection issues every morning just turning on both the iPhone and the BT to start my day. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but it shouldn't be that difficult. So last night I thought to myself, let's try the Apple BT with my wifes Moto Razor and see how it works. It was absolutely flawless! I put the Razor deep in my pocket while having a conversation and no static. I set the phone down on the counter and starting walking away with no static until I got about 25-28 ft away! I can live with that. So what's the issue hear?? Is it really the Apple BT or the BT implementation on the iPhone?? I'm thinking that there is a software issue with the iPhone as it relates to the Apple BT headset and there really isn't any issue with the Apple BT.
Any thoughts to this?
But heck either way I went back to the Apple store and applied my $100 rebate and for a net cost of $29, I'm keeping it!

I deleted the photos via Finder and empty trash long time ago. The thing is, that I want to recover one event or album. The event appears in the iphoto but when open, it shows "!". Is it possible to recover the photos?
No. When you removed the photos via the finder you damage the library. Photos should always be removed from the library using iPhoto, never with the Finder.
If you have a Time Machine backup of the library from before you deleted the photos you can restore the library to the Desktop and export that album from it to import into your current library.
It's been too long to be able to try one of the file recovery applications. You sure to have overwritten those files with new files since them.
OT -
I also bought a WD My Book 2T external hard drive, but I think I wasted my money. The thing is not easy to navigate. I bought it because I didn't understand (and still don't really) how the Time Capsule works. I want to be able to basically 'reformat' my MacBook so it is empty, but have all my current stuff accessable so that if I want to find a photo or file, I don't have to restore the entire thing back onto my MacBook.
Then what you want is a Carbon Copy Cloner of your entire OS X boot partition which includes everything (OS X, programs and files) and is hold the option key bootable at boot up (wired or built in keyboard) this way you can boot from it or use Migration or Setup Assistant against it, or access it directly from any computer capable of reading the HFS+ format (Windows PC needs MacDrive installed)
It's like the ultimate backup system, just blows TimeMachine and TimeCapsule away completely in almost every manner.
You need another backup anyway in case TC wasn't doing it's job. With the clone you can check it out completely before erasing the original drive too.
Most commonly used backup methods
So you need a blank powered external drive formatted Partition: 1 option: GUID and format OS X extended journaled in Disk Utility, use the Erase > Secure >Zero (or middle selection in 10.7+) and allow that work, may take a few hours but it's good for all new drives to be done once.
Next download CCC and select your boot drive and clone it to the external drive, then when it's finished you hold the option key down (wired or built in keyboard) and while booting up (Startup manager) to select the clone to boot from and check it out.
Next you need to use Disk Utility (on the clone) and select the Macintosh HD partition of the internal drive and use the Secure Zero Erase (or middle selection) and allow that to work, it will scrub your drive of everything.
Next you install OS X again.

How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
Next you install your free iLife and third party programs from original sources
Restoring your Free iLife (iPhoto, iMovie etc)
Then you can cherry pick just want you want off the clone drive. -
my folders take forever to open and then the docs within take a long time for the icon to pop up. the same thing with moving itmes from the desktop to a folder, and also emptying the trashh
Don't know if that would be a failing hard drive, but it may be that you are out of available space. How much hard drive space do you have available? Please highlight the Macintosh HD icon and then press Command and I for a get info window. Once open, please copy and post the following:

Used:
Available:
Mac OS requires a minimum of 10 - 15% of total hard drive space available and empty at all times in order to operate properly. -
I tried to open a folder in my Documents. It does not show in any window but does show up when I am half way between windows. It did the same thing when I tried to empty the trash. It asked if that was what I wanted but I could't say yes because it was or
what is your question/issue here? did the folder have any content in it to begin with? screen shots of what you may be seeing?

I just purchased a Nikon D7000. However, iPhoto does not display JPEG images. I seems to download ok, but displays only an empty box. Double clicking on the box opens the image in a single display window. It does the same thing when importing from Nikon's supplied software. Forget about handling RAW files. Now, I'm having difficulty importing JPGs from Photoshop files for slide shows or use in iMovie.
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -

Try to drag an app into folder and then drag it out.
Or reset you iPhone. Hold down Power and Home buttons until Apple logo appears. Release and wait to reboot. -
My iPhone 4 with cash card is slowly emptying the balance of the card. Only Wi-Fi is normally ON, most other things OFF. Are the Apps responsible for this, or is something wrong with the phone itself? How can I stop the "thief"?
I have this exact same problem. One solution is having your friends change their fake aliases on Facebook to their real bloody names, but I realise this is no easy fix.

I am using an older browser and OS because I cannot upgrade right now. I can access my email but cannot seem to put anything into the TRASH and if I do get some things to go in, I cannot empty. I would love to get compliant with my 5gb of free storage!
