Emtec DVD-R on dr4-a

Bought a bunch of emtec dvd-r's but they don't seem to work on my dr4-a. Firmware is already 2.30, anyone else who tried this, TDK (also listed in the faq) works great, so does sony.

There is a new firmware version. 2.50. I don't know wether people think it is good or bad though. It seems to have stopped the clicky noises on my drive and made it recognise disks faster.
MSI can do very little, as it is optorite that produces the firmware for the dr4-a. Or am I wrong?

Can't play burned Dvd-'s on DR4-A

After recording a movie with dr4-A, I can't play it through the dr4-A, but with my other dvdplayer it plays well and also with my tvdvdplayer

Try to get a DVD+/- R that are burn over from another drive and see if your DR4-A can pick up the data.

Won´t boot up XP or XP in DVD player

Hi.
I have billd my second computer (the last one was a 486 DLC 40). SO u can say that I am a new bee lots of new stuff sens last time
Now to the problem..
I put everyting to gether, turnd on the coumputer everything went ok. all fan is spining ok. I had som problem whit this new S-ATA disc but I manage to fix it (didn´t know how to install it, had only been working whit P-ATA befor).
So I installed Win XP and I were verry verry Happy. When i were in XP i notest that my Grafik Card wasent running ok (i Had a ? on that device).
So i installed the card from a disc, But when it were almost done I got a blue screen and the computer mad a restart.. I didn't realy see what the blue screen sad becours it made a restart after only a few sec.
After that restart I have Problem.
Í'll get past the Bios, and so on, but when it is going to boot from the HD, the screen got all black. Then I try to boot from my DVD player (MSI also) a got this message "Press any key to boot from CD...." after that den i get a black screen.
Grafik Card Failure? Nope I have tryed whit a nother one.. a Gforce2 same result.
HD failure? I dont think so becours I have the same problem on the DVD player
DDR problem? I dont know..
Prossesor failure? I dont know.. (dont think so)
Power problem? I dont know (dont think so)
I have reset the Bios in Bios meny & I have made a reset on the Cmos
I have a D-Bracket everything is Green (= operatingsystem booting)

Nope.. that didnt help.. now I got the Screen a black after that I have pressed crtl + Home, Even if I had the Win XP CD in.. Same resullt..
So i have probobly have to change the PSU..
That is how ever stange becours the Company that were selling this, were selling this as a complett kit, Tower, CPU, motherbod, HD, Grafcard and so on..
I am going to call them now...

How to succesfully burn a dual layer DVD with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846?

I cannot burn EMTEC DVD+R DL discs on my iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846. I get the "The unit could not calibrate the laser for this medium.." error.
Can anyone confirm a DVD brand that will actually work?

In the meantime, I was able to burn my EMTEC DVD+R DL discs using my MacBook (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) with an HL-DT-ST DVDRW GWA4080MA without any problems whatsoever.

DR4-A Blocky Picture

When I play a DVD in my DR4-A, on my PC, I get a blocky picture.
If I take the DVD out and play it my notebook that has a DVD Player the DVD plays great.
My DR4-A worked fine for the first couple of months.
Any ideas?

Bios 1.9 KT8 NEO FIS2R success story

Just want to let this forum know that the latest official 1.9 bios solved the usb flash drive problem I had on my K8T NEO FIS2R system. I run linux (SuSE 9.2) and I had problems accessing usb flash drives (usb mobile disk, compact flash card readers etc.). These problems have disappeared since I upgraded from bios 1.7 to 1.9.

Killawife Mixing memory rarely ever works right and I suspect that is at least a part of your problem. Mixing memory worked better back in the days of PC100-133 memory than it does now. Some times it works and moving it to another machine may now work.
OK that said. Try entering Bios and selecting Optimized Bios Defaults on the right hand column. This will reset most of your settings back to default. However it will help straighten out issues. Reset the rest of the Bios back to normal however leave your RAM settings on Auto for now.
Start Windows and use CPUz and give the data from the SPD tab and the memory tabs.
Also please run a few passes with Memtest86. Both proggies are listed in the sticky posts if you don't have them already.

Mega 180 components?

hi, im going to order the msi mega 180 tomorrow and im just a bit confused as to what components might be best for it..
so far, im looking at these components:
CPU: 2800xp+ - now a few questions about this...the mega180 only supports up to 3000xp .. now, so will i be able to overclock the 2800 up to 3000 ... if not, should i get the 3000? will there be much of a difference?
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB 8MB IDE ATA/100 8MB cache 7200RPM - that's the hard drive im looking about getting. its big and, from reviews, seems to be fairly silent - but should i go for a s-ata? does the mega support s-ata? what does it mean.. is it faster/quieter?
DVD Burner: MSI DVD-burner IDE DR4-A, Retail DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW - im getting this for 66quid so it seems to be the one for me.. any known issues i should be worried about?
Memory: TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 512MB CL2.5 Memory184-P (for DDR-PC400MHz) - thats what im looking at atm.. its 56quid. i really dont know much when it comes to memory. i think the mega180 supports dual channel, does this mean that id be better to get 2x256mb sticks?
im going to stick with the onboard gfx (is it the gf4 mx4000?) for the time being.. until the 9800pro comes down in price... and the onboard sound should be grand.
so, is the above the best set-up for me, or should i change it around?

No just updated the audiopart with the drivers from http://www.techconnect.ws
And for Video the latest Nvidia Graphic drivers(trough setup)
Leave those IDE drivers alone, tried that but your system will boot very slowly afterwards

It`s the TV@nywhere Master i`m using and the system is using the Mega 180 intern radio
I think the wire plug doesn`t have to go anywhere. think it`s optional there for other compatible mainboards

PC does not boot from MSI DR4-A DVD drive

Hi,
I've just bought a NetVista P4 1.6-256MB-40GB PC with an IBM branded LG CDROM. Booted fine from the CDROM drive.
I've replaced it with an MSI DR4-A DVD+/-RW drive, but I am unable to boot from it. It is the only drive on the 2nd IDE flatcable, and set as master. I've tried a new IDE cable as well, to make sure it wasn't a cable problem, no luck.
The DVD drive is recognised in the BIOS, IDE 0 is the 40GB harddisk, and IDE 2 is the CD/DVD-ROM. IDE 1 and 3 are not installed.
However there is no way I can get the system to boot from CD (or actually the DVD drive).
Windows XP is starting up fine as well from harddisk. It recognises the IDE/ATAPI DVD drive, says its enabled and all good. A drive name is assigned to it (E:, the Primary and Secondary IDE devices in the device manager list seem all to be fine).
However when I put a CD (Audio or Data) in it, it just says no volume, enter disc. Basically I can't use it to boot, nor can I use it once the OS is up and running. If I put the MSI DVD writer back in my external firewire case and connect to it, it works fine.
Have deleted and reinstalled the IDE/ATAPI driver without success. I've installed the latest IBM NetVista BIOS version 46AUS (of april 2004), but that had no effect either.
Any ideas? Or is the drive just incompatible with the IBM NetVista PC?

Test the CDROM in another system and see if there's any problem.
Try setting it as Master drive using the jumper even if it's a Single drive on the IDE controller.

DR4-A and DVD-9 Dual Layer

Hallo.
I purchased (December 2003) a DVD DR4-A but when I try to read a DVD in format DVD-9 (Dual layer I suppose) I am not able to read it, instead the other DVD media, not Dual layer are readable by DR4-A.
I tried to install my DR4-A in another PC but I obtain the same problem
I am not able not even to browse it from explorer.
If I try that media DVD-9 in another DVD optical I am able to see it.
So I think that the problem is on my DR4-A
I tried to upgrade firmware to 2.50 version but I have the same problem.
I have a PC with Windows XP Pro SP1.
Can you hel me?

It looks to me that you had bad luck and received a defected drive. I suggest you return the drive to your vendor and ask for replacement - I have the same drive and no problems with any DVDs. Moreover, do not upgrade to firmware 2.50 if you want to use CloneCD - this fw is a piece of that does not support RAW DAO/SAO modes that are needed by CloneCD (and maybe some other soft) for copying some copy-protected CDs. The latest usable fw is version 2.30.

Wrong DVD burning speed with DR4-A

The DVD burning speed of my DR4-A appears to be wrong, it should be 4x but is 3.1x. Why is this happening?
(I have updated the firmware from 2.17 to 2.30 and the DMA mode is enabled)

I HIGHLY recommend DVDDecrypter for what you are trying to accomplish. It is free. http://www.dvddecrypter.com
You can use it to copy files to your hard disk, then use DVDShrink to compress the files for burning onto your DVD. Then you can burn with Nero, or with DVDShrink.
These 2 free programs together have worked extremely well for me and they are actually far superior to any of the programs you pay big bucks for.

Recommended dvd media (+r and -r) for the dr4-a

i use DataWrite yellow v2 (RITEK G04 dye) dvd-r and out of 50 ive had NO coasters and as for dvd +r i use Datawrite yellow classic (PRODISC R03 dye) and ive had no problem with then either.
and as for blank cds i cant help you with that as i use a cd rewriter

DR4-A and Prassi Primo DVD

When using Prassi Primo DVD software and the DR4-A, it wont recognise the DR4-A as a DVD writer.
Also the bundled Nero software does not write at 4X, more like 1X (takes about 50 mins to write a 4.4GB image.
Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks

i'm starting to have problems with my dr4-a. it was working ok for the first 4 months but now its not. i am trying to "backup" some movie dvds which ive done before i am using shrink dvd 3.1.7. i am using the same blank dvds "datawrite red v3 dvd -". i've used these disks since i brought the dvd writer and i've had no problems untill now. when the dvd is being written its get so far say half way in burning and stops the dvd writer spins very fast then slow then fast again and i get an erorr massege come up "FOCUS OR TRACKING ERROR". i take the disk and look at the underside and it look as thou it not burn even its burnt a little then there is a gap (it looks like its not been burnt at all) then there is a bigger bit that is burnt and then there is a gap and then a another bunrt bit ??? sometimes it does not even burn at all, as before it spins fast and slow a few times and the same error massege comes up ? but sometimes it burns all the way with no error massage but when u go to play it back it only works in the the DR4-A. it does not even work in a home dvd player is just spits it out and when u try and play it in my liteon dvd-rom u get a windows error " DISK IS NOT FORMATTED WINDOWS CANNOT READ THIS DISK. THE DISK MIGHT BE CORRUPTED, OR IT COULD BE USING A FORMAT THAT IS NOT COMPATILBE WITH WINDOWS"
i thought i might of been the disk that i was trying to backup so i tried one that i've done before and it done the same.
However saying all that ive just tried a dvd+rw disk with shrink dvd i burnt the film fine no errors and it played fine in a home dvd player and my lite on dvdrom
i've noticed in this forum that a few people are having the same problem as me there dvd writer is the dr8-a ?????? is there any connection

Could be dodgy media. Also try your dr4 as master on second ide.

DR4-A DVD Writer Problems

I've just installed my new DR4-A DVD writer into my PC.
Everything seemed to be fine. Windows XP (SP1) detected the drive and installed the default Windows drivers (there don't seem to be any specifically provided by MSI for the drive).
Over the last couple of days I've been burning CD-Rs with the drive and the supplied Nero software without any problems. Today, I went out and bout two packs of Sony 5DMR47A DVD -R disks. When I insert one of these disks into the drive the drive doesn't recognise them and in Windows Explorer and Nero it says there isn't any disc inserted. I've tried all the DVDs in both packs and get the same problem every time. Or is there an incompatibility between these type of DVDs and the drive?
Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks for that. I'd already upgraded my software that was supplied with the DVD drive to the latest build of version 5.5.
On another note, I went and bought some TDK DVD-RW Disks today, and they worked fine. So could it be an incompatibility between the drive and that particular make of Sony DVD -Rs?
