Emu 0404 USB - No sound thru headphones at the front - and very low volume

I can't get sound thru the headphones at the front of my Emu 0404 USB to monitor playback and recording. At the back, however, I can connect my headphones and also obtain sound but at a low level.
In sound settings the volume option is greyed, so no help there. I am using the Emu Asio ....otherwise the card seems good quality.

Do you mean you can't control volume in your software or system master volume controller at all? This normally means that you have not selected the system audio play/recording devices correctly or you have set output mode to bit-matched.
Also,
- you have a switch for Direct monitoring on top of the 0404 box
- w/ Some software, you can't enable direct monitoring in siftware settings

  • My EMU 0404 USB is not my friend right now.

Does anyone know what might be the problem?
I have a EMU 0404 USB connected to a USB 2.0 pci card (usb controller?). My computer is a 1.4 GHz Athlon processor and my motherboard is a Asus A7M2666. I have 756 DDR ram installed and run windows XP.
Basically the problem is that everything is very slow when I use this card. I have problem running my software synths (for example Korg Legacy Collection synths). I have tried many different settings and some works better than others. Nothing, when I ran everything on my crappy onboard sound card then I had no problems at all.
Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Hi There,
I would say the issue is quite clearly not enough CPU power and memory.
Your on-board audio would be a 16bit audio at around 41kbps tops, moving up to 24bit 96kps ( the EMU box ) would place way extra overhead on your system. As would the driver requirements for you PCI USB 2 card.
I run cubase and Korg legacy on a 1.8GHz Athlon XP, and I have found even with 1GB ram it craps out with one Korg and a hand full of plug-ins.
Sorry but the short answer is to update your system, go for a new intel core duo and at least 1GB of DDR2.
    Cheers

  • Emu 0404 USB Constantly Set to Mute By Volume Control

I had my emu 0404 running with my onboard sound for a short while (because the 0404 would not work with voice chat software such as ventrillo).
I have since disabled the onboard sound and uninstalled the driver, but now upon every reboot of my system the sndvolume32.exe (aka Volume Control icon on the taskbar) will set the Wave component of the emu 0404 to mute. I'd rather not have to open up volume control everytime i reboot to unmute my sound. I have tried going through my registry and deleting any remaining trace of the onboard sound (RealTek HD Audio) but no good. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled the emu 0404 drivers many times, still no good. I'm also using XP 64-bit, but i don't know if that matters.
Can anyone tell me how I can stop volume control from setting the Wav output to mute upon rebooting?

Have you set the S/PDIF mode switch to coax and how 'bout monitoring settings? I've read some issues w/ those switches too (you may need to toggle On/Off couple of times to get switch working properly). There is also thei Unofficial E-MU Forum you can check/ask advicing - http://www.productionforums.com/index.php?f=52

  • EMU 0404 USB w SONAR 5 audio jitter

Have you attempted to contact Broadcom about this? My current take on such things:

  • No sound thru headphones

*I just replaced the battery in my video Ipod with success; now there is no sound thru headphones. All menus are operating and display shows music/movie playing correctly just no sound. I get sound thru the computer and my docking station. Any ideas?*

Presumably you opened up the case and did this yourself. Perhaps a connection from the circuit board to the headphone socket has broken off/become disconnected when you did this.
If you have opened the case yourself, I suggest you open it again and see if all the connections to the headphone socket are good. I've not done this on an iPod, so I don't know exactly what it will look like. It's probably a small plug at the board end and then soldered on at the socket.
    Good luck.

  • Surround Sound Via Headphone Sockets With ALSA and/or OSS?

I have a surround sound system that uses the green and black 2.5 milimeter jacks for surround sound.  Is it possible to configure ALSA, so that the headphone socket on my laptop produces the front (green) output, and the external microphone socket produces the rear (black) output?  Also, is this possible with OSS?

Possible in Alsa, yes. Quite a bit of modification of your .asoundrc. Check this out.

  • I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! Is anyone else having this problem?

I've updated my ipad to iso7 now the sound is distorted through the speaker and headphones, it is unusable! I wouldn't dare to update my iphone. Is anyone else having this problem? Can't seem to find any fixes online?

    A reset should fix it:
Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.
Then, Press the Sleep/Wake button + Home button and hold 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
This will reset your device without erasing data, apps or settings.

  • Sound is very low volume

I've done a search but can't seem to find any info re the sound volume on my bw G3. The sound out of both the front, built in speaker, and through the headphones, is very low volume output, almost but not quite muted. I've searched and adjusted the controls but to no avail. Could this be a hardware problem or software? There 'is' some movement when I adjust the volume slider but it takes the level from what would normally be 2 of 10 down to nothing. That is, there is no way for me to get the sound to levels that within normal limits. It's like the output is being blocked somehow but is still leaking through enough for me to make out the particular sound (song in this case) that I'm listening to.
Any help would be appreciated. It might not be worth puttiing any money into and I'd like to at least try.
    Michael

    Michael,
Sounds like you are ahead of the game on testing with headphones. External speakers would not make much of a difference without an amplifier.
"(is there another place to check sound output?)" If you had an AV output you could test sound out of that card. Finding a card might be cheaper than any repair bill and give you a definative answer on if their is a system software level problem.

  • I have an iPhone 5 and with any pair of earphones that I plug in the sounds comes out of the speakers and not the earphones

I have an iPhone 5 and with any pair of earphones that I plug in the sounds comes out of the speakers and not the earphones
The problem occurred a few days after I had updated to iOS 7.02

    Hey Tahls23!
I have an article that can help you troubleshoot that issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    No sound through stereo headset
Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
Try a different song or video.
Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

why is there a clicking sound when I close the cover and enter sleep mode?

    Hi katesvca,
I too have an iPad smart cover, and all that clicking sound is is basically the standard lock sound for iOS. The Smart cover is equipped with magnets inside, and the iPad is also equipped with magnets, and when those magnets are closed together the iPad goes to sleep.

  • Very low volume on headphone jack on MBP 13" but no red light

Hi I am looking for solution for my problem where in I am currently getting very low volume on headphone jack. There was no problem before, everything used to work perfectly fine.
I couldn't find comprehensive solution for this. Could anyone please point me to the correct thread if solution is already available.
    my details:
MBP 13" Snow leopard, 10.6.5 - First Gen. Unibody MAC.
problem: Very low volume when headphone is connected.
    Things: I have tried:
    1. Headphone is fine. Works correctly on windows PC and on my iphone.
    2. Tried system pref. volume is max.
    3. Upon connecting headphone to MBP it is detected as headphone.
    4. Tried Audio MIDI setup, settings seem to be correct 44.1KHz 2ch-16 bit
    5. There is NO red light from headphone jack.
6 Tried poking toothpicks in to audio out but didn't help.
7 Tried creating new temp. admin user account but headphone low volume remains.
    8. Tried safe boot - no joy.
9 Safe boot was followed by normal boot-> Ran Disk Util tried repair permission. No luck.
    10. Also followed steps to clear PR RAM etc. - problem remains.
    11. Heard about logic board replacement but don't want to go by that route.
Can anyone point me to correct thread or provide the solution..
    help is much appreciated.
    Thanks...

I have the exact same problem. i have  a macbook pro 13in (mid 2009) with extremely low volume coming from headphone jack. i brought the computer into my local apple store today and they diagnosed my problem as being the result of a faulty logic board. my laptop is out of warranty so they have to send it to the apple repair depot for 3-5 days. the charge is a flat $280 (tax not included). the solution seems extreme though and i hope i don't get any "kernel panicking" with a new board. i will update... also there is no accidental damge to my laptop whatsoever. the problem arrose 2-3wks ago

  • EMU-0404 USB: Using different outputs in abelton?

    Hello Community,
Can I use different outputs for my tracks in abelton live. I want to root the master-track to one stereo output, and new tracks together to the other outputpair for headphones, to hear the track sperated and NOT on the master, but on the front headphone-out is the same signal as on the output on the back
When I start Abelton an configurate my in and outputs. I got 4 output-fields activated!
    1 (mono) & 2 (mono) | 1/2 (stereo)
    3 (mono) & 4 (mono) | 3/4 (stereo)
On the master track i mapped
    Master out 1/2
    Cue Out 3/4
If i press the headphone-button on a track i can se the signal in cue out 3/4 in the master track, but i cannot hear anything on the headphones. The EMU headphone out on front got the same signal as the outputs on the backside.
    Which output gets the signal?

0404USB has 4 mono input ports and 4 mono output ports which are 2 analog and 2 digital ports.
As the headphone output DAC is shared with 2 analog outputs, you can't do what you're describing without routing the digital signal through some external D/A Converter using S/PDIF path.
IIRC. there's a picture in User's guide showing the signal paths for this device.

  • TS4113 Is there a terminal or other type of workaround to allow sound to come from the HDMI and headphone jack at the same time?

I have a late 2012 Mini, running 10.8.2.  I have a set of powered speakers plugged into the headphone jack.  My TV is running on a direct HDMI connection.  I can only stream sound through HDMI, or even select it as an output, if I unplug my headphone speaker plug.  Apple's knowlege base says this is the case.  I am looking for a way to have both plugged in all the time, and have the sound mirrored to both.
I use the speakers for itunes music, system sounds, skype, etc..  The HDMI sound is for steaming content to the TV.  I don't want to have to reach around behind the computer and unplug/plug each time I switch, for a multitude of reasons.  Any ideas out there?  Google wasn't getting me very far.  Maybe a terminal solution of some sort?  Thanks in advance.

it seems that m1r3k found a very good workaround, at least for the Mid 2010 Mac mini models (that I'm using right now). I don't know if it works also with more recent Mac mini models.
Re: After upgrading to lion, cant select HDMI sound setting
Open Audio MIDI Setup.app in /Applications/Utility, click the + (plus) button in the bottom left corner of the window and choose "Create Multi-Output Device". In the new device settings tick the HDMI "Use" checkbox and you're done. Simply go to the usual System Preferences Audio panel and choose the newly created device, without the need to unplug the audio cable from the back of the Mac mini. You can also name the new audio device as you want.
    NOTE:
This is only a workaround for a deliberate choice made by Apple on OS X Lion 10.7.2 and beyond:
Mac mini: About HDMI audio and headphones
Please let Apple know (here or here) how this has made things unnecessary awkward for users and needs to be fixed (these forums don't count, they are not read by Apple's employees)!

  • Shure X2U usb adapter (XLR to USB) for microphones - very low volume

I've just bought a Shure Sm57 and X2U usb adapter - however when I plug it into Garageband there are no level controls (understandably) but even with full gain turned up on the adapter the levels are so low as to be unusable. I need to be right on top of the mic for any pick up (about three or four green lights on the bar) and as soon as I turn my head or go more than two inches from the mic, everything drops off.
I've tried the mic with a stereo adapter and put it through my Griffin iMic and seem to have similar problems, but when hooking the mic up to a proper pre-amp kit on a stage, the sound was delicious!
Anyone using one of these adapters, anyone with a problem?
Do I need some sort of powered pre-amp? I doubt it the manual advises just to plug it straight into the USB.
I'm running 10.5.7 so no need to run the drivers (they wouldn't let me anyway!)
    Help!

OK - the replacement SM58 microphone, with a new usb arrived.
I've set it up - this time putting a pair of headphones into the monitor jack of the USB adapter - and the pick up over the monitor is amazing, I can be about two feet away, talking quietly and it picks up everything - a little bit of background hiss, but this can be reduced by adjusting the monitor and volume dials.
Plugged into my mac is a different matter - the pick up is still negligible - very low, and with no controls.
Checked in Sys Pref Sounds and in GB - the levels are so low as to be unusable - unless I sit an inch away from the mic.
This is with the gain dial of the USB adapter turned up quite high - possibly 8 or 9 out of 10.
I'm thinking now the problem lies with the Mac side of things - I wonder if the drivers are doing what they are supposed to do.
