Emu volume too high on MIDP 16 bit wavs
Hi, I've written a program that renders to a 16 bit (signed) wav stream in memory.
It sounds fine on the phone....but when I play it back though the emulor it distorts horribly unless I divide the volume by about 4 while playing.
If I export the file and look at it in an wave editor it looks fine. I've run the java code under windows and it sounds fint there too.
So the only thing that's distorting the sound is the toolkit.
This happens on all the generic phone types as well as all the SE phone toolkits.
Does anybody know what's happening here, doesn't seem right at all.
Thanks
Dave
Thanks for reply. Surely, but SURELY the emu can play 16 bit sound properly!!! Isn't it just a basic windows thing!
It's a shame, because the emu is fairly good at everything else. It's something easy to fix, no?

Even with the lowest input volume setting in System Preferences / Sound, the mic recording volume is too high and I'm getting clipping. I'm using an MXL Desktop Recording Kit from Marshall Electronics, with a Griffin iMic USB interface, and recording in GarageBand 3 on a Mac Mini.
I'm a folk singer playing a nylon-string classical guitar, so I'm not even especially loud! The MXL mic captures great sound quality, but it is so sensitive that even when I'm six feet away, my acoustic guitar and vocals frequently max out the sound levels and get clipped. The room where I record doesn't allow me to get much farther away, so I need a different solution.
I've tried using compression while recording, but this doesn't appear to limit the peaks or prevent clipping. Do I need to buy a hardware mixer or some other interface to allow me to further reduce the mic input level, or is there another software contol in GarageBand or someplace else (other than System Preferences / Sound) that I'm missing?
I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, David
Mac Mini G4 Mac OS X (10.4.6) GarageBand 3Thanks for these suggestions. I suspected GB effects wouldn't change the recording levels, but appreciate the confirmation. I checked the Audio/Midi setup in GB preferences, and I don't see anywhere to adjust the recording level there, just a selection for the audio input (source).
I have been using the iBooster, so I tried plugging the mic directly into the iMic and boosting the input level in System Preferences/Sound. This achieved a much lower input level; so low that the GB tuner couldn't even recognize the pitch of a single string when plucked. So this seems to create the opposite problem (recording volume too low). Good idea to try, though.
I will experiment with the room acoustics and try a larger space, but it still seems the recording level is just too high, period. Any other suggestions?
I saw a reference to a simple mixer in another GB thread (Behringer UB502 Eurorack). Could something like this be a possible solution?

NOKIA 2310 Radio Volume Too High !
Hi,
I have NOKIA 3210, and the radio volume is too high. The volume is at minimum level.
Note :
When I activate visualisation (in radio menu), the volume is less high( I can support it ). But one minute after, the volume is high like without visualisation.
How can I lower the volume ?
Eric.
France.Message Edited by cafeiine on 29-May-200709:48 PMI am not sure how you can fix this, but please take the phone to a nokia care center and ask them if it is normal for your phone to behave like that. It could be a hardware malfunction.

I have express linked to powered speakers (BeoLab 3), it all works great, but it is too loud. I change volume using the iTunes, but at the quiet end one click goes from inaudible to waking-the-kids-up-loud. It does not seem to matter what the system volume is set at. Can I solve this with iTunes or my Mac as the speakers have no volume adjustment on them.
thanksSame issue here. I suspect they will come up with a remote volume control. In the meantime click on the EQ icon in iTunes (right besides the choose the room icon) and set the preamp to -12db.

Garageband export volume - too high!
Please can someone help me with this because it's driving me insane. I have a copy of Garageband '11.
I'm trying to record a simple piano/guitar piece of music. All finished, and just want to export it now.
I find that when I export the file, no matter which volumes I change, it comes out at the same volume. Too loud. I know the normal complaint is it's too low. Mine is that no matter what I reduce (master volume, individual instrument volumes etc) I cannot get it any lower.
I'm tried not compressing the file on exporting. Makes no difference. I've tried sending to iTunes instead of exporting. Makes no difference. I've tried playing in different players [e.g. vox] makes no difference.
Please can someone help me with this?
The advice online seems to be that if you reduce the master volume meter thing, then the export volume will be lower. This is not the case. At least, not for me.
Any advice/pointers GREATLY appreciated : )

Volume too high making Facetime calls on iPod Touch
I just updated my iPod touch to iOS 6 and when I make a Facetime call the volume is too loud even if I turn it down. I tried to restore it several times but nothing changed...what can I do? Do I have to send it to Apple support?
Thanks a lotI've found no solution myself, having messing with all the settings. The static now audible because of this volume boost is just horrible as well!

T400 Volume too high. Volume control broken.
On Windows XP with Conexant Audio Driver 3.64.12.0 the volume control setting inside the SMARTaudio maps setting 10 to 1 or 2 for the windows volume control/OSD(i.e. quite loud), thus the volume set to bar 4-5 is already deafing.
Does anyone know how to fix this?I've found no solution myself, having messing with all the settings. The static now audible because of this volume boost is just horrible as well!

1st gen iPod Touch minimum volume too high
I have tried all the equalizer settings and sound check, this is really a problem when using in-ear headphones. Is this any different on the iPhone 4?
Select all of your songs in iTunes, right-click > Get Info. Then go to the Options tab and you'll find a slider labeled "Volume adjustment". Bring that down how you feel fit and hit OK, then sync your iPod touch.

I had gain too high and mike was too sensitive, now my audio is distorted!
Is there any hope for me? I was using an external directional mike, and I think I had the gain (or mike input volume) too high.
I was recording an outside rock concert, and the sound is muddy, distorted, and horrible. Can I use Soundtrack Pro to clean this up? Is there anything I can do or is the situation hopeless?
Thanks for any help. All of us who work with technology can tell stories of really bad mistakes we made
as we were learning our craft. Some of them are funny. Some are not. But we learn and move on.
There's nothing you can do about that distortion.
However, from now on, you will always remember to check your levels and monitor your audio. -
I am in the process of creating a PAL version of an existing NTSC DVD
I created PAL-compliant video files from iMovie.
Then, I took the existing NTSC DVDSP project, and:
- deleted the existing video files from the clips and the Assets
- Set the video standard to PAL
- Saved the DVDSP project under a new name
- Imported the PAL video files as assets and attached them to the clips.
I left the audio files as is (all AC3)
I kept the same menus (Menu1 has a PAL video as a background)
When I try to build, I get an Muxer Bit Rate too High error message right after the Auto play segment is processed (see log below)
The Autoplay segment is a slideshow made up of jpeg pictures with a "cube" transition. There are two audio streams and two subtitles streams (one in English, the other in French).
I never had that problem when burning the NTSC version. What do I need to change?
Here is the log of the build:

Muxer Bitrate Too High
Thanks,

Dual 1.25 G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) DVDSP 3.3While waiting for an answer, I tried a few things.
I solved the problem by re-doing the slideshow for the Autoplay segment.
I believe that the issue was the fact that I had converted the slideshow into a track in the NTSC version.
That track had to be removed and re-created in the PAL version (just like any other video asset).
Hoping that this will help someone else.

I have been encoding a DVD all day, using the same settings (DVDSP's factory default for an SD DVD). I then had to replace some footage in one of the videos and that is when I strating getting the message about the bit rate being too high. The replaced footage was the same duration as the previous media and no additional video effects or audio were added.
I searched forums which suggested that I should delete a dvdstudiopro.plist file, but I can't find this file! I am running OS Lion 10.7.4 and the latest version of DVD Studio Pro.
Any ideas? (Thanks in anticipation)
MikeThe file is in: your user name/Library/Preferences.
Alternatively, you can download this free tool, which will remove the file for you and provides the option to backup your FCS Preference files.
Mac OS X Lion hides the Library directory by default, to access it temporarily bring Finder to the front, hold the Option key and select it from the Go menu bar item.
To have permanent access type the following into Terminal:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
execute the command by pressing Return. -

NTake a look at page 70 of the PDF for bit rates on alternate angle tracks to see if that was the issue.
Also using a CBR intead of VBR has helped in some multi angle issues.

According to the video-meter which indicates how much space is left on the DVD - in this case a single layer DVD-R, 4.7 GB - I have only used 3.7, so I have 1 GB to go and still the project won't build. As far as I know the green light in the Status column in the Asset tab means that the clip are good to go, am I wrong?
I havetried to reduce the Bit Rate to minimum, just to test, and still DVDPS prompt with that it is too high.
The following are my settings:
Video System PAL
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Field Order: Auto (we hate interlacing, don't we?)
Mode: Two Pass VBR
Bit Rate:6.0 mbps
Max Bit Rate: 9.0 mbps
Motion Estimation: Best
And that would be the default setting?
Any help will be thankful!Yeah..bitrate is so important. Just because your encoder indicates a high of 9.0 mb/s doesn't mean it won't go over that point from time to time - Every encoder introduced bitrate spikes (at least on occasions). You won't see a quality difference with 9.0 over 7.6 with encoders like Compressor. Do what Subquestion says and use AC3 audio unless your client absolutely demands it based on the content (concerts, audio titles, ect). With this you'll need to adjust for video bit rates to accommodate the higher audio bitrate.

Is my bit rate too high?!
I'm new to DVDSP but thought I'd figured it out. I'm burning a 30 minute film, with 13 chapters, to HD-DVD. The simulation works fine, and the build and format seems to go through fine, but the resulting dvd works only on my computer (that I burnt it on).
It suddenly occurred to me that maybe by encoding settings are wrong, that perhaps the bit rate is too high? So only my computer can play it...?
The video file is a full 1920x1080 quicktime movie, and the MPEG-2 HD encoding was on about 18mbps, with a max bit rate of around 26mbps. (The footage itself is orginially 35mbps, but that's enormous for an encoded DVD, no?) Perhaps that's why it's saying that the DVD wil be 4.6GB, even though it's only 30 minutes.
I've knocked the bit rate down to 13mbps, with a max of 16mbps. I'll try another burn with those new settings.
Does it sound like I'm onto something here?!
Thanks,
Jamie KennerleyFrom your master sequence, you should be exporting an uncompressed (or lossless) 720x480 (NTSC) 16x9 Anamorphic 23.98 file. Bring this into Compressor and adjust your bitrate according to time. The best way is to get a good bitrate calculator. Here's a simple one thats works good:
http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm
Based on the amount of TIME of your piece you would adjust your bitrate and encode.
1. Export out an uncompressed or lossless 720x480 16x9 Anammorphic @ 23.98 (4444 is a waste since you're not dealing with any Alpha Channel for the encoding)
2. Determine how many minutes you have and find the optimum bitrate with the calculator
3. Plug your file into Compressor and set the correct bitrate and Encode
DVD has a max bitrate of 9.8 for Video so you need to keep it well below this. The only reason you should be going above 8mb/s is if you plan to replicate your disc. Even with that you should be checking your bitrates with a bitrate viewer to make sure every things Ok -
Bit rate too high DVDSP, build stops.
DVD Studio Pro used to be DVD Maestro from Discreet, but I was thinking since Apple bought it long ago, it would have a forum. I searched for DVD and DVDSP and only came up with this forum.
If anybody in here uses DVDSP and if you know the solution I would appreciate help with this.
Upon building this, I did lower the bit rate to a lower size after getting the error message.
As of now I have the BR between 4.2 and 5.2 as the max br.
I'm concerned if I lower it anymore it will start looking like a pixelated mess. Does anybody know how low you can take the rate and still have a good looking project?
The project was taped in HDV. However I encoded it using compressor so I don't think it's an HD file anymore that DVDSP can't read. In the settings you'll see "SD".
I'm using DVD Studio Pro 4.
The settings I used for compressor were:
