is it possible to run a windows program about as big and advanced as say the windows calculator exe without actually installing xp and using bootcamp/parallels?
i dont want windows actually on my machine, but do want to run a very small app. something like dosbox but if it was windozebox or something

I have a pure standard alone java applocation. When app was run, a GUI window/class ( JFrame class ) was launched/new to show some message. After a while, I want to close this window. If I did not pass or save this window obj, can I close this window ?? If yse how to close? In other word, it is hard for me to save or pass this window obj. But I have to close this window later on. I plan to use some static variables or method so I can call any time and try to close this window later on, but I failed. Thanks for help

Thanks all response. I am sorry I forgot to mention I can't use System.exit(0) because the application has not finished. But window message has finished its function and it no long be used again. In other word, I want to close window only , not whole application. If you use System.exit(0), it will close whole application. Message window can be used only during a piece of time. Thanks

Cant i install windows on bootcamp, without a installation cd of windows?

I really want to install my new bought game, GTA - Episodes from liberty city on my computer.
But i have a macbook pro. So i started investigating.. and i found out that a macbook have a bootcamp, and i started installing that, but then it asked for a windows installing disc.. And i really havent that much money..
Is there another way to get windows without buying installation disc?
Looking forward to answers.

You can download Windows from an online retailer. Microsoft does not give away Windows. You have to buy it, regardless if you get it on disk or download it.

How do I configure my Flash Animation so that it is visible and running without its window being visible?
The window background must be invisible too.
This will run on the desktop not on a website.

hey, thanks for the reply but that isn't the issue. my issue is that the animation doesn't stay within the div container. I tried what you said via chrome console but that's more of a hack way of doing it. I should be able to contain the animation within the div that its being wrapped with but for some reason it is jumping outside the div container.
Does that make sense? Would be awesome if there was a walkthrough on how the edge animation settings worked. for example the code below. would i need to adjust something below for it to contstrain within the container?

Can you build a new version of an exe without having to rebuild its installer afterwards?

I'm currently testing a LabVIEW-built exe on a PC without LabVIEW installed. Each time I go back to the development PC to fix a bug / change something, and then rebuild the executable, it seems I also have to rebuild its installer which takes a significant amount of time.
Is there a way to rebuild an executable without having to rebuild its installer? Or a way to tell the installer it doesn't need to be completely rebuilt, but rather just needs to look at the new executable?
After writing this out, I've realised there probably isn't a way to do it, but it's worth a shot.

Yes, in your circumstance it would be. For me, I only have to worry about internal customers, so I am the only one that does the install; therefore, I don't have to worry so much about the details of the installation.

How do I Link to _blank window without headers?

I am creating a page that links to a flash slide show. When
the user clicks on the link to the slideshow, I want the flash
movie to open up in its own window, without all of the usual
Explorer toolbars and menus at the top of the page. I set the link
to _blank, so I do get a separate window. Now, what is the trick to
getting rid of the junk at the top of the page?
I know it can't be very difficult, but I'm puzzled.

In Windows Vista 7, SP2, Firefox takes several minutes to launch, is non-responsive, hangs sometimes launches additional windows without my clicking. I get error code 10003.

I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 in Wndows Vista 7, SP2. I'm using Norman Security Suite anti-virus software. Firefox behaves erratically. Sometimes it takes several minutes to launch. If I launch an new window it sometimes hangs. It launches two extra windows without my having clicked to launch. Always two. I get an error code 10003 but when I search for this I get no information about it.
Windows Task Manager shows plugin-container for Firefox running in addition to firefox.exe.

Multiple Windows without Document based project?

Is there a way to put multiple windows in my web browser without a document based application? I hate document based projects. A regular project is much easier to work with. What makes a Document based application so special anyway? Thanks in advance.

Well, it gives you documents. You can save and open them. It keeps track of its windows and its own nib files.
A document-based application might not be appropriate for your program. You can create windows on the fly. It is a bit more work that way. I don't think I've ever done it. Any applications that weren't document-based also had only a specific number of windows that were all defined in the nib file.
What do you hate about document-based projects? You don't have to use them. Just keep an open mind and come back later and try them again. It took me a couple of tries before I got the hang of core data. Document-based applications might make more sense the next time around.

Can I install Windows without optical Driver

I have a Macbook pro Early 2008 - MB134LL/A but its optical driver cannot read any disc. Now I want to install Windows via BootCamp but it cannot. Anybody know how can I install Windows without optical Driver? I tried to boot by USBflash, USB DVD Driver but it cannot boot.
I think that does external optical drivers via firewire work?

Thank you for your reply, and the information. This is what I came up with:
I added the strings as instructed, however when I went to sign the script in terminal, I was told:
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all
In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist

Install Windows without network connection

Trying to install Windows 7 Pro on a 2013 MacBook Pro (which I lovingly refer to as a very expensive paper weight).
The tools I have at my disposal:
- Empty usb flash drive
- The latest boot camp software downloaded as a .zip from App Store
- External cd/dvd drive
- Windows 7 Pro installation cd
- .iso image made of installation cd (after I realized its too brain dead to use physical media)
- NO NETWORK CONNECTION. (and this is the show stopper)
Cannot under any circumstances use wireless at the office and wouldn't you know it the machine doesn't come with a wired network adapter. Or a cd/dvd drive. Or a way to connect to a standard workstation monitor. All of those are extra. But I digress.
I've taken the machine home and used my home wireless to download the latest boot camp files (which now reside in the downloads folder as a .zip file). But I'll be damned if I am going to do this work at home in the evenings in my spare time.
So...back in the office with no internet. If I try to create a bootable usb it insists on re-downloading the drivers even though I already have them downloaded. If I manually copy the files over to the usb it balks because the usb drive is already bootable. If I skip the usb drive the windows install balks because it doesn't like the partition created by boot camp. Seriously???
There must be a way to do this. I have all the parts JUST NOT THE INTERNET CONNECTION. As you may have guessed I am a *tiny* bit frustrated at this point.

It has always been possible to activate Windows via telephone (you may have heard of such a device). Do you have anything useful to contribute to the discussion?
Back on topic: It would seem you need an internet connected Mac to create the USB boot drive. Once this is done however it should be possible to use this already created USB boot disk to do an offline install. Haven't tested it yet. Still this requires at least one machine connected to the internet in order to make this work.

Hi, I am researching the possibilities for opening a new HTML
window without toolbars and at a certain size. I have found a bunch
of tutorials and even this guide here at adobe:

I work in Flash 8 and I use Dreamweaver 8.2 (with all the
latest updates). As you know Dreamweaver uses Java Script to
implement Flash into a HTML page. By generating a folder called
Scripts and the file AC_RunActiveContent.js
So I tri the methods described in the above technote. I even
found a guide at kirupa...and at flashkit. I even downloaded an
example file from Flashkit. But any implementation of any of the
methods above in a Flash 8 file implemented with DW does NOT work.
I am not a hardcore programmer. I am more the kind of guy who
finds code that works and moulds it to my purpose. Copy and paste
programming if you may. So its not so easy for me to see why it
wont work and where the problem is. But I do have a suspicion
towards the javascript flash implementation that Dreamweaver does.
So if anyone have guide or tips to how I can use Flash 8 and
DW 8.2 and get flash to open a new HTML window with a certain size
and without scroll or toolbars..that would be GREAT!!

The TechNotes are from the Cold Fusion site at Adobe. I am
not certain, but I think that you need to be using Cold Fusion on
your websites server to be able to use the functions to which you
refer. Again, I am not certain that I am right here, but it could
be a place to start research into the problem.

I keep getting an error message, Windows update standalone installer (KB2857645)

I tired to update my flash player and now its all messed up, i could not successfully update it so i tried uninstalling it and now it says in the internet options under manage-addons section that my shockwave object has no publisher where it used to say adobe... and i tried to reinstall the flash player and i keep getting that same error message? can anyone help me?
