Enable Aero Glass in battery mode

I am using a Thinkpad W510. At the moment I have the problem, that all Aero Glass visual effects are only working if I working on the docking station. As soon as I am not connected with the docking station (it does not matter if I am on battery mode or using the power supply) all the visual effects were switched off.
Does anyone have a clue to where I can find setting to leave the Aero Glass effects always on. I think it is somewhere hidden in the power save settings, but I haven't found it yet.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks everyone for your help.
After I had gone through the settings once again, I found the cause of my problems.
So for everyone, who has the same or a similar problem, check whether you have set the color depth to 32bit. In my case it was set at 16bit, probalbly due to a power saving setting I once used.
If this doesn't help, check out this link:

  • Cannot enable aero after turning on (and then off) battery stretch

I have a T520 running Win7 x64. I turned on battery stretch in the power manager the other day, and after turning it off I cannot enable aero again.
I've selected an aero theme, but windows does not turn on aero.
A screenshot of my desktop settings is here - as shown I have a aero theme selected but both appearance and  properties tell me aero is disabled.
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/440/aerok.png/
I'm seeing a lot of advice on how to disable it but unsure which to follow. As this problem seems to have ben caused by the power manager I was wondering if any others had experienced this and could advise on how to fix it.

I just tried to enable and disable it and it appears it is not reproducible.
I suspect it somehow got confounded by the fact I have a few monitor configurations I use:
    1. Work - displayport to U3011 WQXGA and d-sub to a samsung UXGA
    2. Home - displayport to adapter to WFP3007 and laptop lcd as secondary screen
    3. Road - laptop lcd
I quite often change the order in which I power/suspend/resume and plug/unplug the various monitors and windows (somewhat understandably) throws a hissy fit from time to time. So I guess this was just another case of that

  • T61 crash on switching to battery mode with win7

    Hi,
I bought a Thinkpad T61 - 7661-CH8 notebook that crashes on switching to battery mode when I remove the power cord. This occures on Windows 7 pro 32 and 64bit, too. After a clean install, I use windows update and systemupdate40-2009-10-19 for installing drivers. The bios is the lastest 2.27-1.08.
The screen flickering the same way as on resolution change. Maybe it tries to change display mode and turns Aero on and off. After some display mode changes it freezes. No BSOD, but everything is frozen, no activity (only backlight turs on and off, if I close the display).
I found on every crash the same thing in the event log:
    critical, kernel-power 41 (63)
The only change is from the original state that the system has 2x2GB ram and 320GB HDD, but under Windows Xp everithing is fine ( I used the recovery disks to try out the original xp system). The ram and the HDD is fine.
Is there a preferred x3100/gm965 videocard driver that works fine with windows 7? I think the video driver is responsible for the problems.

It seems that I have a solution. I have to install this driver:

  • CS5.02 w/MPE turns off Aero Glass

I have a new Dell Precision T5500 workstation(X5560 CPU, 12GB Ram, PNY Quadro 4000, Win7 Ultimate 64-bit) running CS5 MC.  AE looks and works great. PPro CS5.02 loads and looks correct but, once a project has loaded with the Mercury Playback Engine(MPE) enabled, all Aero Glass effects for Window Color and Appearance get switched off.  Resulting in what looks like the default Windows 7 Basic properties and color scheme(Baby Blue with no transparency).
PPro captures, edits and outputs fine.  And once PPro is exited, the Win7 desktop, visually, returns to my "normal" saved Theme.  While PPro is running, the Win7 Personalization page shows that my saved Theme is loaded.  Clicking it's icon to reload the settings doesn't cause any visual changes.  Selecting the Window Color icon brings up the Window Color and Appearance tool which has a message stating that Windows Aero is off, etc.
If I remove the Quadro 4000 entry from the cuda_supported_cards.txt file, essentially disabling the hardware MPE, Aero Glass stays on while PPro runs.  Except now I have to render effects since Premiere is using the software MPE.
The NVidia driver is from 10/16/2010( 8.17.12.5993 ).  Everything else on this machine(HW/SW) is up to date and is working great.  I haven't been able to find any mention of this anomaly here or on other CS5 or NVidia related forums.  Has anyone seen/heard of this?  Is there somebody else using the Quadro 4000 with CS5?

Thanks, I checked out the search results of the link posted.
I grabbed and ran Microsoft's Mats_Run.aero.exe tool.  Funny thing, even with Premiere running that tool still says there are no issues with my system.  Plus I don't get a systray message saying something to the effect of "aero is turned off" like other folks report in the MS Answers forums when things like this happen.  Anyway, like I said previously, I can live with this "feature" while I'm using PPro and so far with my hardware, my AE usage hasn't been effected.
    Thanks All,

how to enable wi-fi in sleep mode?

If you have cellular data plan for your phone and you have cellular data turned on, the fact that you do not have Wi-Fi at the time, you will still receive your messages, plus once the device starts to receive the message and "wakes up", the device will reconnect to Wi-Fi at that time.
As stated by everyone that has posted so far, the fact that Wi-Fi disconnects after the phone goes to sleep is a battery saving feature of the phone. There is no app or other setting that will change that. Only keeping the device connected to power will keep the Wi-Fi radio active.

  • Windows without Aero Glass?!!

Windows without Aero Glass? its disgusting!
You know, windows 7 was successful, this means AeroGlass+Performance accepted that time, so you can’t remove aero glass by telling everyone it’s because lack of performance!
I remember MS-Dos text mode applications like ‘Norton Commander’, ‘Norton Utilities’, ‘Dos Navigator’ and much more, presenting solid graphics (simple solid color as background, and white text in the front, using (some times) some characters as icons and
smooth animations for dialogs. – I remember ansi.sys as well!)
Windows 8 and 8.1 has the same graphics, same as DOS! except the solid background, which replaced by a gradient.
This is not satisfying, not at all specially when we have a complete set of eye-catching effects like ‘Shine’, ‘Shadow’, ‘Bevel’, etc. in windows 7.
Even in windows 95, 98 and XP, I used to change skins and themes with skinning softwares (like Windowblinds).

  • Xperia Z3 always awake sometimes, even with Stamina, Ultra Stamina, Low Battery modes

    Hi to all,
Has anyone every noticed his/her Z3 always awake (and thus bad battery life), even from within Ultra Stamina mode with no running apps?
This happened to me twice now with just over two weeks of using this phone. I haven't been able to take specific steps to replicate this yet, but 2 days in about 16 days means so far over 12% of the days.
Usually, the phone lasts over 24 hours with moderate use. I normally have stamina mode "on", and set to activate at 50% battery level, and then Low Battery mode to activate at 20%. Note also that all the apps I am using have been installed from the first day I've been using the phone. That is, I have not installed any new apps before I noticed this happening, and when I have "normal" battery life it is using the same set of apps.
Here is an outline of what happens:
I notice a much faster than usual power drain, despite being a typical day of usage (i.e. nothing out of the ordinary).
I go to battery usage, and see the history details, and see that "Awake" has been on constantly, including during long screen off times, and all the while with Stamina mode enabled and active.
I then restart the phone. Problem still there, still constantly awake despite screen off and stamina.
Battery dips below 20% and Low Battery mode activates.
Phone keeps on being constantly "awake", despite no usage and now both low battery AND stamina modes on.
    Restart the phone. Same problem.
I turn on Ultra Stamina mode. (I did this last time at 17%)
Phone continues to be always awake. Battery quickly drains down to 5% within less than an hour and almost no use, even though Ultra Stamina is supposed to stretch the life for an order of magnitude longer than that.
I shut off the phone to avoid complete discharge. When I return home, I plug it in and wait for a decent charge before turning the phone back on.
After full charge, I take the phone off the charger.
Phone now works normally again, without always being "awake".
I can't figure out what causes this sequence of events to kick off in the first place. I'm trying to play around with things to get it to start doing this, but so far I haven't been successful in deliberately replicating the problem.
Anyone else experience anything like this before?

  • Pavilion zd7000 starts in battery mode only; runs on AC only when connected to printer by USB port

My Pavilion zd 7379ea will only start up in battery mode. AC adapter appears OK with a firm green LED, so external power supply may not be the issue here? When I'm starting up (with what's left on the battery), both the charging LED and the AC LED are constantly blinking. When turned off, the battery LED is firm, and battery appears to be charging (but which obviously is not the case).  Occasionally, when computer is turned off, the AC LED is lit with a firm light.
One odd thing I noted before this happened was that the computer ran on AC only when my HP printer was connected to one of the USB ports (no battery inserted). If I disconnected the printer USB cord, the computer just died immediately; it was like the computer was powered by the printer. Later I also discovered that the same cord (where it connected to the printer) had melted from extreme overheating. I tried to update the USB drivers for each port but it didn't change things. I also tried to connect a different printer to get the computer started but it didn't work this time. I'd be extremely grateful for any comments that may solve this power supply issue (and if possible explain the stuff with the printer connection).

You unplugged a USB device while the notebook was still booted into Windows and on?
Normally that won't cause any issues but , If you did that you may have damaged your  system board's Southport chip.
USB is not a plug n' play port like SATA  and eSATA are.
Here is a link to the maintenence manual for your laptop series.
Is your notebook still within warranty? By the processor components listed in the manual,I believe it is probably not.

  • Smartphones - Low Battery Mode?

Just woken up this morning, and my battery's only on 2 bars... which isn't a problem in itself, but it made me think of an idea lol
Wouldn't it be good if the phone could have an option to automatically switch to a 'Low Battery Mode' which would shut down all the fancy, battery intensive settings - bluetooth, fancy wallpapers & screensavers, active desktop, camera (or the camera switching on if the slide opens - the user must go to camera in the menu to activate
I'm sure there's a lot more that could be done with that, but I thought I'd throw it open for discussion here and see what people think... I'm sure it would be a valuable tool for people that just want their phone to last longer until they can get home to charge it.

  • Shutdown of Lenovo X201 in battery mode

    Hi everybody,
With a new battery on my X201 Lenovo the tablet shutdown after few minute. The same it did with the older battery.
But it work perfectly when the tablet is pluged on the AC network. So I can use it only at home.
    Thinks for your support.

    Also....
This is a brand new out of the box Lenovo X1 Carbon 2nd Gen.  Intel i7, 8Gb, 256Gb SSD.
OS installed:  Windows 10 Tech Preview
    Symptoms:
While using on battery mode, Screen lags, blinks on and off.  Mouse works but freezes often from the lag and screen blinking on and off.  On battery mode, you will not be able to recover from this issue.  As soon as the power cord is plugged
in, the system will immediately function as normal.
    Fix:
System must be plugged in and using power from the charger.  Bottom right system tray will contain an Intel Graphics Control Panel.  Inside the Graphics Control Panel is a Power Button.  Click on "Battery" option.  Turn "OFF"
the three options listed.  Apply settings and reboot.

    Windows 7 32-bit, ATI Mobility Radeon HD2400 (driver: 11.2 (02/15/2011)), Firefox 4 RC1 (clean installation).
It doesn't happened with Firefox 3.6 or with AC adaptor plugged in.
    How to fix it?

    Just some general comment
Is your battery getting flat ? or have you changed any of the powersaving etc options. Some laptops will make changes when in battery mode and even slow down the CPU etc.
Are you using different settings on firefox 3.6 and 4 ?
    * What about your FlashPlayer settings especially the hardware acceleration.
    * And what version of flash payer is in use on each computer <br /> check using http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html that tests using the version installed in the current browser
Presumably you have problems only on sites where you are using FlashPlayer, so it may be worth looking at [[Flash-based videos and sound do not play correctly]]. I have noticed whenever new versions of FlashPlayer are released some users will find problems, sometimes the video card drivers need updating.

  • Firefox 3.6.4 will constantly set window to aero basic interface, rather than aero glass, in Windows 7

Since updating to the most recent Firefox 3.6.4 I have noticed that it will sporadically set the windows interface to the aero basic rather than the aero glass interface I have my Windows 7 set up in (and in which Firefox itself opens). To clarify, the browser opens with the window frame as aero glass, but over the course of ten minutes or so of browsing, I will look up and notice it has reverted to basic. I have not been able to determine what happens when it shifts, or if it is a specific add-on (but I have been deleting or disabling any add-on I think might be causing it). Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known problem? Any work arounds?
    Thanks!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After 3.6.4 update

I've seen this problem too, in the meantime. I've found that if I disable Shockwave Flash, the problem disappears. Of course, it also means I can't see Flash objects in the web. I've already contacted Adobe about this, but they haven't replied yet. In any case, it does seem to happen when we put Firefox under particular load with Flash objects.

  • Finally Got Aero Glass Back in Win 8.1

Now released for Windows 8.1 by a good guy who knows what many people want on their Win 8.1 desktop.  Thank God for 3rd party developers who understand what people want and need, rather than the greedy managers at Microsoft who push their
own agendas at the customer's expense.
The two things I like most about Aero Glass are that it makes it much easier to focus on the client area (where all the work is done), and the drop shadows help better differentiate multiple windows on the desktop.
After having helped test the betas, I've been testing the release intensively for a week now, with zero glitches.

It's not "adware", but it's essentially "nagware" in that it will remind you via an occasional pop-up message and a desktop watermark that you may donate to the author to support the project's ongoing development.  It may also pop up a debug logging
window, but I think that may be able to be disabled through a registry setting.
From what I've read in the forums, some find these "nag" reminders problematic, though when I first tried the software out early in its development cycle I found them easy to ignore.  I was concentrating on whether it really
    works - and it does.
By the way, you can easily test it out in a throwaway environment - for example a Virtual Machine, such as provided by VMware.  I did.
Once you donate five or ten Euros you can get and save a "donation key" that's apparently tied to your disk drive serial number.  After doing that all the reminders are stopped - it is silent and just works beautifully.
I find Aero Glass for Win 8.1 version 1.2.5 to be 100% stable.   My system ran 27 days straight under hard use between the last two Windows Update cycles without a problem of any kind.  The author seems keen on making it totally
    bug-free.
By the way, it is still being developed.  The author has currently got a beta test version of a GUI configuration tool out for testing and comments.

    Hi
I am from Zaragoza (Spain) and lately (about 2 months ago as I can remember) my mbp shuts down when running in battery mode and without any advice. I see some of you also have this problem.
I thought it was me not seeing the low battery indicator but last week I realized the battery was above 40%!!
This problem has been repeating and the battery level was between 40% and 60% when my computer shut down.
What am I supposed to do? My MBP is still in warranty and I bought it in the online apple store.
    Thanks for the help.

In the system profiler it says the cycle count to 24. The laptop is from late March 2008.
