Enable auto login via command line

I have an old Mac Mini (G4) running Leopard. My problem is that I cannot log in using Back to my Mac ( Screen Sharing ). I get as far as to the login window, but after login, the machine goes down ( crash completely ). I do not have the same problem with Intel-based Macs. I temporary solved this by activating automatic login. But after an upgrade of Leopard, the problem dissapaired - but after the last upgrade to 10.5.3 the problem is back - as the machine is in an other part of the country, and has no screen or keyboard - I was wondering if anyone can show me how to activate automatic login via the terminal, I have full access via SSH.

In order for the "defaults write..." method to work, you will need an encrypted version of the user's password stored in /private/etc/kcpassword.
This is automatically generated when Auto Login is set up via the standard Control Panel. If you don't have physical access, it could be copied from another machine to which you do have physical access and where the auto-logged-in user has the same password. Or it could be copied from any machine that already has the file and it contains the correct password.
Alternately, there's some discussion of the encryption scheme used for kcpassword and theoretically, you could create the file from scratch. Check out: http://www.brock-family.org/gavin/perl/kcpassword.html

GDM login via command line?

The subject states my immediate question but for some back story I'm very close to building my ultimate NAS/HTPC server. I'm running Gnome Shell for the DE (including GDM, obviously) and XMBC for the HTPC application with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. OS is running off a small SSD, with RAIDZ2 for the data.
What I need is a relatively simple way to control the GUI of the server, which is hooked up to my TV. I've been getting by with my Nexus 7 using x11vnc and "Yatse," which is an XMBC Android wifi remote. It's a bit clumsy, though, as I have to SSH in to start VNC, then VNC in to log in and start XBMC, then start Yatse to control XBMC. I know I can kind of do that with VNC, but Yatse has very cool integration with XBMC to the point you can browse your library directly in the app.
What I don't want is auto or passwordless login, since that ZFS RAID not only has video and audio files, but all of the rest of my data.
I discovered an Android app called "Remote Launcher" that will run pre-set commands on your Linux server (it also has WoL and can even integrate with Tasker). So now I'm thinking maybe with the right commands I can get Remote Launcher to log in to GDM, start and stop XMBC and Netflic Desktop, and power on and shutdown the server if necessary. The app's wiki already has the XBMC and reboot type commands, which aren't too tough in the first place. Which brings me back to the subject line, is there a command I can run on the server that will log the specified user in to the desktop? And once I'm logged in, if it's on the lock screen, is there a command to run to again log back in?

Setting IIS W3C Extended Log File settings via command line, registry or configuration file

I am currently in need of a way to set IIS W3C Extended Log File settings via command line, registry or configuration file. More specifically the 'Bytes Sent (sc-bytes)' and 'Bytes Received (cs-bytes)' settings that are not enabled by default.
If anyone knows where I can locate these setting (outside of the GUI) for all IIS versions that would be greatly appreciated.

I believe I have found a valid solution. You must have the WebAdministration module loaded. I hope this helps someone.

Assessing Command 'Analyze Source Files' via Command Line when running TestSTand Deployment Utility

Our Software Configuration Manager is running the TestStand Command Line Deployment Build Tool (Ref: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-38947).
        When he builds the application, the code will not be at the same location it was in development.
If you are Manually running the TestStand Deployment Utility, This is not a problem because everything is relative in the workspace.   Simply go to the Distributed Files Tab (of TestSTand Deployment Utility) and hit the, "Analyze Source Files" button. This finds the required files and apparently creates an updated hard path to be used during the build (probably in the *.tsd).
PROBLEM: We auto-run the Command Line Deployment Build Tool (Command Line), and we do not have access to the, 'Analyze Source Files' command.
            As a result, our build consist of many warnings and the output is missing many files (the location of the files have not been updated).
If we could access the 'Analyze Source Files' Command via command line, that would fix the issue.
FYI: We use an automatic builder called Quick Build as our builder.

Unfortunately it looks like Analyze Source Files does not have a command equivalent for the command line based on this article and attached PDF:

How to merge multiple documents via command line (Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.3.2)?

I'm searching solutions to merge multiple documents (all stored in one folder) via command line or batch file to a single PDF-File...
Is there a way to do this?
Finaly I want to control this from a application written in MS-Access. So, perhaps there are some features already integrated in Access to do this?

If you have some programming experience you could probably do this using VBA from within MS Access to control Acrobat via OLE.

Adobe Reader 11 (XI) won't open file via command line

Hello,
I have posted this question to probably inapropriate topic earlier today, so I am repeating it again.
I installed newest Adobe Reader XI today and when I tried to open certain pdf file via command line, it reported a syntax error. Now, this syntax worked so far on versions 9 and 10 (I checked today with them and it is working), so my question is - where can I find new syntax, if there is any? Googling didn't help. Or what else could wrong?
In previous versions I was able to open pdf file (on page 5) like this (all was taken from Help file "Open parameters")
"CompletePathToAdobeReader"/A"page=5""CompletePathToPDF",
ie
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"/A"page=5""d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"
but now - not that it doesn't open specific page, but it doesn't want to open file at all.

Yes, it reported correctly becuase there is a syntax error in your command. Try spaces between the /A switch and open parameter. Try this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "page=5" "d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"

I have ffmpeg, mpg123, and mencoder. Does anyone know of a way I could use any of those to crop an mp4 video via command-line? I am trying to take off the black space above and below a video. Thanks in advance!

I don't think it's possible to crop without re-encoding, but you can crop from the command line with ffmpeg and mencoder. Not sure about mpg123 - I think that's for playing audio but I could be wrong there.
Anyway, with ffmpeg you can do cropping by using -croptop, -cropbottom, -cropleft, and -cropright. So if you wanted to crop 16 pixels off of the top and the bottom, your command line would look something like this:
ffmpeg -i <input file> -croptop 16 -cropbottom 16 <video encoding options> <audio encoding options> <output file>
With mencoder you use the "crop" video filter, like this:
mencoder <input file> -o <output file> -vf crop=320:208:0:16 <other options>
where the "320:208:0:16" means that the resulting picture is 320 pixels wide, 208 pixels high, and the 0:16 is the x,y position of the cropped area.
These command lines are just really very basic examples - ffmpeg and mencoder have a LOT of options. Way too many to explain here. If you don't believe me, just try reading through the mencoder man page sometime. (There's an online version of it at: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/man/en/mplayer.1.html)

How can I do that via command line?
I tried to review the "mpcmdrun" command but did not found proper switch to turning on this service.

You could do a regedit command to silently import a .reg file with the setting in it:
create a .reg file from the following key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Real-Time Protection
Name: DisableRealtimeMonitoring
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0
Then import it silently with this command:
regedit /s C:\ExamplePath\Example.reg
You could also do a PowerShell command:
Set-ItemProperty -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Real-Time Protection' -Name DisableRealtimeMonitoring -Value 0

How to see via command line blocked mails

Im having a problem...i have a C100 Ironport appliance and i want to know via command line, how to grep and see mails that never went delivered.
For example...i know that someone, like [email protected] send to my exchange server an email...but in exchange never entered. So i assume that it was filtered by Ironport.
I go to the command line, use grep and 13 and search for [email protected] and i see something like this

I see that 2 mails came from pedro....so i want to see what happened to them...they were bounced? rejected? Delivered?
I dont have any email in the local quarantine... and i want to know how to track what happened to those emails that never entered to my exchange server.
Is there any command?

Wanted to add that you can shortcut the "grep" process by putting everything on one line.
grep -i "Mid 3977209" mail_logs

grep -i "From: " mail_logs
basically
grep -i "pattern" mail_logs
-i ===> ignore case

Can't rename the lap1041 hostname via command line

We have lots of new lap1041 need be set static IP Adress, hostname, Controller Adress via command line, but when use command (capwap ap hostname) to set hostname , always give us cammand disabled, we used command:clear capwap private-config, but it does not work, why?

The Lap is new and has not join the WLC( the WLC has not connect to the network), we can set the LAP IP address, Controller IP address via command line, but can not set host name, even though we power the lap via AC.
