Enable Final Cut Studio color compatibility
I was wondering who has this function available in the QuickTime player preferences. If you go to QuickTime>Preferences do you see a checkbox for this as the last item in the General prefs panel?
What I'm trying to find out is if this is available to FCE4 users, or whether it requires you to have the QuickTime pro player or FCS. If you have both the current versions of both FCE and FCS you should certainly have it, but I'm curious if you have only FCE4 if it's available.

Michel BoissonneaultIt does the same thing. The only difference is that the pref is active only when the QT player is active. So the gamma is not effected in other parts of the system.

Enable Final Cut Color Compatibility Further Washes out HDV!
I'm having a hard time with this.
Outputting a reference Quicktime movie (for later use in compressor, non self contained, HDV 1080i60) creates slightly washed out looking footage. Clicking the "enable FCP color compatibility" checkbox further brightens the footage! What's going on?
My monitor is at 1.8 gamma, is that checkbox further brightening my footage by bringing it up from where it's at to 1.8? This is really driving me crazy.Hi

Does anyone know if I can save a project from Final Cut Pro 6 that is compatible with Final Cut Pro 5? Is there like a checkbox that I can make it compatible with earlier versions? Is there an option like this for other applications in the suite?

We have just purchased a brand-new Mac Pro running Mac OS 10.6.4 my question is this, are there any known incompatibilities with Final Cut Studio 5.1 (Universal) running on a Mac Pro with Mac os 10.6.4.
Try the Firewire Basic setting.
Also, your camera should be powered on and connected before the mac is turned on. Then, when you fire up the mac and launch FCP, close any projects that open with it.
Then, choose your Easy Setup before you open a new porject to capture into. Then it should work.

Final Cut Studio 3 - 64 bit compatability
When Snow Leopard was announced as being 64 bit, i expected Final Cut Studio 3 to follow the same lines. When Final Cut Studio 3 came out i realized there was no mention of 64 bit or multi-core capabilities. The only application that has multi-core capabilities is Compressor! Will there be an update to incorporate 64 bit?

Final Cut Studio 5 and the Original MacBook Pro compatable?
Please help a frustrated old pro. I bought a MacBook Pro when they first came out, had it configured with a Quartz Extreme video card and upgraded Final Cut Production Suite to Final Cut Studio. I use Digital Juice products too. I just cannot get anything to work right - it shuts down, hangs up, is super super unbelieveably slow.....I took it in the local Apple store and they told me everything was fine but it can't be. This is my 3rd Mac - I've always loved them but this one doesn't work at all. My LaCie drives are so slow with it as well. What would you suggest I do? Thank you for your response!
MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.9) Quartz Extreme Video CardYou Macbook Pro is Intel processor based. The first version of FCP 5, part of Final Cut Studio 1 was Power PC based up until version 5.1.1 when they went universal. If you're trying to install FCP5 version 5.0.4 or earlier it won't work at all on your Intel based Macbook Pro. You need to upgrade to FCP 5.1 or later, which means sending in your FCS discs to Apple and they'll send you back the universal versions which will work on both the Intel and Power PC based platforms. Hope this makes sense.
If you're using FCP 5.1.1 or later on your Macbook Pro but it's not working right then you need to provide more info about your system: Anything that will help to diagnose your problem. All things being equal, your Macbook Pro should certainly be able to run FCP 5.1.1 or later.

Thanks!Hi friends i'ven reading your coments and my conclusions are CS5 is faster and has the same features and quality than FCP, i like to ask to Studio X if you know more FCP and you are a pro why? with facts because if i have to buy or say to a friend or client go and use one or another with real facts.
Example FCP has better color calibration, better final quality, more features or so.
Another curious thing is that jhon 1 in 2 said is better AVCHD compatibility or handle these are to consistent points that i can undertand as a normal person.
I can understand a point if you can say me why FCP is better with examples because i know much of hardware but a little of this software, i can give a big point to a software tha can use mi machine at full capacity because if i spend 10K$ in a computer i'd like a blazing fast one, if not is better to spend only 2.5K$ and wait the same amount of time for the same results.

Final Cut Studio 3 on two computers
Two people working on project but would like to use new Final Cut Studio 3. Is it possible to install FCP on external hard drive and have them go between the different computers or are there other possibilities.
Basically the licensed user of FCP is not quite proficient on the tools so has hired a student with earlier education version of FCP.
I would be "IT" for licensed user so question was posed on how to share between two users but want to keep it legal.
I have already installed the update on licensed user but might have to uninstall to move application to external drive or is there a "key" like Adobe uses that I can disable this computer & enable the other.

No. It has to be on the same drive as the Mac OS running your computer.
The license stipulates that FCS may be installed on one Desktop and one Laptop owned by you.
Both versions may not be used at the same time.
There's no difference in functionality between an academic and commercial copy of FCS.
The difference is in what you are allowed to do with it, i.e. no commercial work with an acedemic version.
Exchanging projects between different versions of FCP is done via XML. The machine with the newer version should generate the XML so that the older version can read it.

I have a couple questions regarding the MBP capability and performance when working with all the programs in FC studio 2. Thanks ahead of time to any and all of you who reply, your knowledge is greatly appreciated.
Please keep in mind all of these questions are in regards to performance or capability with final cut studio 2.
I am very set on a MBP as opposed to the mac pro desktop, but does the MBP have any hick ups when trying to work in any of FC studio 2?
From what I have read most people say the 2.4 to 2.6 upgrade is not worth it is this still true if you plan on working in FC studio 2?
I plan on purchasing a 2 gig model and adding 2 more gigs my self, any recommendations as far as a company or site or both is again greatly appreciated.

i have the MBP 2.4 15 inch
i have not found any problems with my MBP so far except the size of the hdd once ive installed all my apps i found with a lo o customizing out 0f my 160gb i have about 40gb left after i installed everything including the full FCS-2
the speed is great not as good as a mac pro tho but it is a portable compatible tho.
i have upgraded my 2gb to 4gb you will need to buy 2x 2gb sodimm sticks i found mine on ebay quite cheap and a decent make aswell. it does help with booting up and FCP running.
i have the 15 inch as it is easier to carry round to uni and clients, 17 inch is big and bulky
200gb would be better but 160gb will do, use a external hdd as a scratch disk the bigger the better and firewire 400 atleast 800 is better
yes the glossy screen will do funny things with the picture and shine in day light, glossy is great for watching dvd's but not editing.
the higher res would be great but you can get away with a 15 inch res but FCS color does work best with a HD res screen

Final Cut Studio 2 on iMac to be purchased
I am a first-time computer buyer, so I'm trying to make sure this purchase is going to be worth it. I'm looking to purchase the iMac off the shelf, but I'm uncertain if I need extra accessories to make Final Cut Studio 2 run. The Mac says it has "ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro Graphics processor with 256 MV of GDDR3 memory," and the software requirements say it needs, "An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)." Will I be required to buy a separate graphics card, or will the computer support it as is? If I need additional hardware, what specifically do I need?
I can offer a different perspective about a MAC for video editing. I used to believe that a Tower MAC was the only option for various video formats but since the landscape for current video cameras have changed, I now rely almost exclusively on a MacBook Pro.
The MBP has several advantages for attaching various adapters for competent video chores. The Express 34 slot can access two 7200 rpm SATA drives that can be RAID 0 and the MBP has Firewire 400-800 and USB 2.0 connections.
Since I use a P2 camera, I have capability of using FW connection to download clips or use a Express 34 (PCMCIA-EXP34) adapter for P2 capture. If you are using a DV camera you can capture from Firewire and capture to either FW 800 drive or the eSATA drives. You could even connect an MX0/MX02 to the Firewire for color correction.
Finally, you can utiize a 23" or even a 30" Cinema Display thru the DVI port as the current MBP's have great video cards.
