Enable Measuring Tool

I'm attempting to enable the measuring tool (Adobe Acrobat X) in a PDF copy of an AutoCAD drawing.
I tried Save as--Reader Extended PDF, but the only option is "Enable Forms Fill-in & Save in Adobe Reader".  Is there an add-on, or an extension for measuring i need to install in order to enable it?

Hi br0wners,
As Bernd said, you'll need to upgrade to Acrobat X Pro.  If you do so, you'll have the ability to Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting and Measuring.
This feature is not available in Acrobat X Standard.

  • Enable Measuring Tool for Use in Reader X

    I created a Geo-spatial PDF using ESRI's ArcGIS.  I opened the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro X and made some minor cosmetic changes.  In Acrobat Pro X I was able to use all the geospatial tools including the measuring tool.  I saved the changes to the PDF.
    I now want to send the PDF to another person who only has Adobe Reader X and want them to have the functionality to use the measuring tool to measure buildings ect.  Currently they can see and use the object data tool, and the geospatial location tool, but not the measuring tool.  Is there anything else I need to do in Acrobat X to allow a Reader user to access this tool?
    Thanks

    Yes, you need to save the PDF as  Reader Extended PDF in Acrobat X. This can be done from File>Save As>Reader Extended PDF>Enable Commenting and Measuring. This file will give the Measuring Tool option in Adobe Reader X.

  • Can't open PDF enabled for Measuring Tool

    Help please!! I need the measuring tool via Reader X. So per this forum, I had the creator of the PDF do the following in Acrobat...
    File>Save As>Reader Extended PDF>Enable Commenting and Measuring
    Then I tried opening the PDF, but I get this error...
    Adobe Reader could not open "XXXXXX.pdf" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
    The file IS a .pdf file type and I am accessing it via a shared drive (not email) and I don't know how you'd tell whether it was damaged. Do I need to change some other setting on Reader X? Is there a technical solution that is not obvious? Or do I need to go back to the drawing board and work with the creator?!
    Thank you!

    Hi SGckc,
    This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.
    Thank you for contacting us!

  • How to have measurement tools in a 3D pdf in acrobat reader ?

    hello,
    I have the trial version of acrobat 9 pro extended
    I work with 3D content in pdf file
    I try to use measurement tool in adobe reader 9 but is not activated.
    When I create my pdf 3D file in acrobat 9 pro extanded, I have the measurement tool but not with adobe reader with the same pdf file
    I find nothing in help file
    could you help me ?
    regards

    You can extend some of the PDF capabilites, such as 3D Measurement and Commenting, by using one of the following methods:
    With the PDF open, go to Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader...
    -or-
    With the PDF open, go to Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader...
    Either one of these will make the PDF behave the way you want it to.  I'm not sure exactly what the differences are, but my impression is that the latter gives the Reader user a few more priveleges.  I could be wring.  This can probably be clarified by the Help system.

  • Measuring Tool Bar in Reeader

    Hei,
    I need the measuring tool bar to be displayed in my Reader. For that, I think the Usage Rights to be Enabled when creating the PDF in Acrobat 8.0.
    I just wanted to do it programmatically. I found using Live Cycle Reader Extension is a solution for that.
    Is there anyother way to enable usage rights directly using Acrobat API?
    Please help me in this regard. Thanks in Advance.

    What about just simply having the measurement and section toolbar appear? I've been capturing files using the "print screen" method and not been able to produce a PDF that will display the measurement and section tool in the reader. Can anyone tell me how to do it?
    Thanks,

  • 3D document, measure tool disabled

    I have been searching this topic and I can't find anything conclusive on this situation.   I have Adobe Reader XI version 11.0.10.  I would like to take measurements of parts on a 3D PDF.  These folks are outsourcing work to us to build and I can't get measurements that I need from the notations they have made.  I know the measure tool will solve my issues, I have seen it in use, but I don't have access.  I have the following tools available above my 3D image:
    I know the ruler / measure tool belongs up in the left section of tools but mine isn't there.  I have the Extended toolbar and I can see the Measuring Tool is disabled here.  Object Data Tool & Geospatial Location Tool aren't helping me.
    I have looked at the document security settings and nothing stands out to me that says I have limited access this way.  How do I activate my ruler? or if this functionality has been deactivated by the document author, where can I find that out conclusively?

    The tool needs to be enabled using Acrobat. For example, in Acrobat 9 you'd open the document and select: Comments > Enable for Commenting and Analysis in Adobe Reader
    or
    Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader

  • How do I activate the measure tool?

    I am receiving some of these 3D PDFs from customers and I need to extract measurements from them.  I have seen other users demonstrate a measurement tool.  I don't have this tool, I believe it should exist in this toolbar.
    I am using Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10).  Here is a shot at my plugin window.  Can anyone help me determine what I am missing?

    I can not get mine to highlight at all. How do I get it to do so. Also how do I find out if it is a image or a document?
    Email me at oteydarrenatgmail.com
    Also how do i convert my pdf to a word document?

  • Enabling Commenting Tools in embedded mode

    We have own plug-in which provides collaboration capabilities for reviewing documents introducing custom annotations with categorization based on standard Acrobat annotation feature. However Commenting tool is not available in post 6 Acrobat versions when Acrobat runs in embedded mode. I suspect that Adobe suppressed the feature to avoid competition from similar to our solutions. Adobe also discontinued earlier Acrobat versions so our big customers have quite serious problem now, because they can't buy newer Acrobat . . So I am interested if somebody from Adobe senior level engineering or sales reads the forum and can contact me to resolve the issue. Again if some developers know how to enable Commenting tool from plug-in when Acrobat is running embedded, then please share your experience.

    I'm not certain drog is going to get what he want here. It sounds like he doesn't want to write a plugin to create Adobe annotations, but rather his plugin is capturing annotation information when the Adobe tools place and/or modify annotations.
    That's not going to work in a browser unless Adobe changes what's allowed in the browser. If I'm not mistaken, Adobe tools will not create or modify annotations when the PDF is viewed in a browser. The user can always save the file to disk and open it directly with Acrobat (or Reader if it's comment enabled) to get access to the Adobe commenting tools.
    Perhaps that's what drog should do - have his plugin give instructions to the user to save to disk and open directly with Acrobat/Reader. It's fairly simple to recognize when the PDF is viewed in a browser. If this approach is not acceptable to his workflow, then drog is going to have to re-invent the wheel and write a custom annotation handler to add/modify annotations.
    Hope this helps

  • CS6 stamp tool doesn't work with action / record ( tool record is enabled ) other tools works

    CS6 stamp tool doesn't work with action / record ( tool record is enabled ) other tools works

    At one time tool  recording was not possible and if you install Adobe Scriptlistener Plug-in Adobe will disable tool recording its never an option.
    I use and record actions all the time and was looking forward to tool recording when Adobe announced it.  However I found what they delivered was  of very limited value because of the restrictions. I do not care that Adobe disables tool recording on my machine.
    The amount of data that gets reordered seems also vary between machines.  I found that Action recorded on fast machine are not usable on slow machine.  Fast machine recorder too much data.
    Documents you use such action on must also have the same size and resolution as the document you recorded the action on. Quite a restriction.
    You problem may also be foxed in CC 2014 sett here Photoshop CS6 - Recording the clone tool in an action gives incorrect results on replay.

  • Using a javascript to change the font size used by the measurement tool

    A couple years ago I saw a javascript written that would allow me to chang the font size used by the measurement tool in Acrobat 9.  When the IT department deliverd my new laptop with Acrobat X Pro, they had wiped out the script and I am not expert enough to recreate it from scratch.  Any suggestions?  I believe it was in an older post by Dave Merchant, but I truly can't find the post or a way to recreate the script.  Thanks for any help.

    Executing this code from the JS console will change the font size of all the Measurement annotations to 20. You can change the value in the first line to use a different font size:
    var newTextSize = 20;
    this.syncAnnotScan();
    var annots = this.getAnnots();
    for (var i in annots) {
        var annot = annots[i];
        if (annots[i].type=="Line") {
            var richText = annot.richContents;
            for (var i in richText) {
                richText[i].textSize = newTextSize;
            annot.richContents = richText;

  • Measure tool in Photoshop CS6

    why is the unit of measurement displayed when using the measure tool wrong? I have changed it in the units and rulers in preferences but it is still wrong.

    Hello Emma,
    It works ok for me here. Where are you reading the measurement? (Info Panel? Ruler Tool Option Bar?)
    Is your Photoshop up to date?

  • How to free rotate an area that has been measured using the measurement tool.

    I've measured and area using the measurement tool on one pdf drawing and now want to copy and paste it in to another pdf drawing and rotate it in to position. Is this possible?

    Object>Expand Appearance. Then proceed to Ungroup, release clipping paths, etc., to further dissect it. Exact steps will depend upon the specific artwork.
