Enable only 802.11b for a single WLAN?

I have only 802.11b client in my production environment (PLC, serial converter, ecc..).
On my WLC how can I configure a single WLAN 802.11b only and other WLAN with all-mode enable?
Regards.
Mirko S.

Sorry, there is a band 802.11g, 802.11b/g but not 802 .11b.
Is correct?
In this time I had to set the datarate 1, 2, 5.5 and 11M.
I do not think it's the right solution.
Regards.

  • How can I use the Time Capsule in only 802.11b/g?

I think I am getting interferences on my 5GHz phone from the time capsule, which I have running in 802.11n mode with b/g compatitibility. I assume if the Time Capsule was running in 802.11b/g mode I would not get the intereferences?
The Airport utility does not seem to have a setting to use the Time Capsule in 802.11b/g only. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Then the Time Capsule's 5 GHz network should not interfere with the phone since it operates a long way from the phone's frequency.
Not necessarily. In the US 802.11n channels appear to go up to at least 5.805 GHz, if I interpret this chart
    http://www.networkdictionary.com/Wireless/Wi-Fi-Wireless-LAN-Frequency.php
    correctly.
It would seem that the best way to avoid interference with 5.8 GHz cordless phones is to avoid channels above 153.

  • Enabling ONLY 2 Computers for wifi access

Here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to make it so that only 2 computers can access my network. My girlfriend has an IBM Thinkpad, and I have an iBook. I think it is somewhere in the admin utility, but can't find it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Don't let people tell you that WEP can be cracked. That is very unlikely to happen in a home environment.
If, by "home environment", you're excluding apartment dwellings, then I agree that the risk of a break-in with WEP is low. Besides, someone cruising the neighborhood looking to hack into wireless networks is probably going to find plenty of unsecured access points and won't bother with the WEP encrypted ones.

  • Cisco Access Point Configuration to support 802.11b & 802.11g protocol

How do i Configure access point to support both 802.11b & 802.11g clients on a Cisco 1121G series access point(AIR-AP1121G-A-K9)
    Regards
    Hitesh

    Hi Hitesh,
Check out this excerpt from the 1121g AP Installation guide section on enabling the 802.11b and 802.11g radios.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(4)JA and later, the access point radios are disabled by default, and there is no default SSID. You must create an SSID and enable the radios before the access point will allow wireless associations from other devices. These changes to the default configuration improve the security of newly installed access points. Refer to the "Configuring Basic Security Settings" section for instructions on configuring the SSID.
In Cisco IOS Release 12.3(2)JA or earlier, the access point radio is enabled by default, and the default SSID is tsunami.
To enable the radio interfaces, follow these instructions:
Step 1 Use your web-browser to access your access point.
Step 2 When the Summary Status page displays, click Network Interfaces > Radio0-802.11B or Radio0-802.11G and the radio status page displays.
Step 3 Click Settings and the radio settings page displays
Step 4 Click Enable in the Enable Radio field.
    Step 5 Click Apply.

  • Setting 802.11b Only mode for WAIR-AP1252AG-A-K9

    I am using Cisco AP " WAIR-AP1252AG-A-K9".
Please inform me how to Set the Below modes to this AP using (a) GUI (b) CLI commands
    (1)802.11b Only
    (2)802.11g
    (3)802.11b/g
    (4)802.11b/g/n
    Thank You
    Pramod Ganigi

I am using this WAP in our Wi-Fi LAB as part of WI-Fi Alliance certification.
You are using the wrong model of WAP then.  For Indian Regulatory Domain, you need "-N".  The WAP you have is "-A".
    1.  If you want 802.11b ONLY then you CANNOT enable 802.11 b and n.  802.11n requires you to use 802.11a radio and bonded.  It doesn't make any practical sense to have 802.11b and you want to run 802.11n because 802.11b only has three channels.
    2.  If you want 802.11b ONLY, then you only allow the data rates for 802.11b, and they are:  1-, 2-, 5.5-, and 11 Mbps.
Read this document:  Capacity Coverage & Deployment Considerations for IEEE 802.11g and look at Table 4.  This will guide you which are the data rates for 802.11b and 802.11g.

  • How to enable SSL optimization only for a single remote WAE and specific website?

    Hi guys.
I have to enable SSL optimization for a specifc HTTPS website only and for a specific remote site only (branch office).
    The scenario is as follows:
Multiple sites connected via a MPLS cloud. Each site has its own WAE device (module or appliance).
There is a central manager and core WAE in the main site (central site).
There is a website accessed via HTTPS by all the remote sites. This specific website is hosted within the main site.
For only a specific branch office (remote site) we want to enable SSL optimization for this specific website.
I saw this great and useful doc, but I still have some concerns.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16452
Basically, according to I see, I should do the following if I want to enable SSL optimization with the entire environment:
    - export the certificate and keys;
    - enable secure store in the central manager;
    - In the remote and core WAE, Check "initialize CMS secure store" and "Open CMS Secure Store";
    - In the core WAE, import the CA certificate (upload PEM file);
    - In the core WAE, create the SSL Accelerated Service by:
        --importing the client certificate and the key;
        -- Match interesting traffic;
        -- Put the SSL Acc Service in service;
    - Finally, make sure SSL acceleration is enabled in both remote and core WAE.
    The concerns:
I only need to enable SSL optimization for a specific location accessing a specific website.
Should the steps above work fine If I enable the SSL service for this specific website in the core WAE and enabling secure store only in a single remote site (brach office)?
how will the other remote locations behave?
Will they access the website normally with no SSL optimization even passing thru the core WAE?
What about the other SSL sites which have no certificate? They will be treated as normal HTTPS with no optimization, right?
If the site uses proxy, will any flow be impacted?
If the steps above do not fit my case, how can I configure SSL optimization for only one remote WAE?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for any advice

In some of the big name brands of wireless, there is "no such thing" as 802.11n on a 2.4 Ghz.  No such thing because Cisco won't allow you (any more) to do channel bonding of 2.4 Ghz.  It doesn't make any sense to bond an already restricted 2.4 Ghz non-overlapping channel (three) and squeeze this number down to two.
Can you check to ensure that the data rates for 802.11b are enabled?  Maybe someone disabled data rates from 1 Mbps to 11 Mbps.

  • Can I enable 802.11b/g on individual radios instead of globally?

I am deploying 400 new APs. There is an existing wireless network. I need to turn up some of the radios before I turn up the rest. Right now I have 802.11b/g network turned off globally across all controllers. What I want to know is can I enable 802.11b/g radios selectively on individual APs or does it have to be done globally across the controller?
    Thanks.

    Hi Friend,
The only workaround is globally enable for all APs and manually admin down for respective APs for b/g radio. I agree its a tough job when you have 400 APs but if you can run some script it will be a matter of seconds.
And if you have WCS you can use AP template for that purpose which again will take less time than manual work.

  • Scenario for single WLAN to multiple VLANs

    Hi there,
I read from this forum some discussion about the WLC VLAN Select feature.
    http://www.cisco.com/image/gif/paws/113465/vlan-select-dg-00.pdf
I see that you can use this feature to have multiple VLANS (interfaces) to map to the same WLAN (SSID).
What I try to learn is under what scenarios would people need to have mutliple vlan mapped to single SSID?
In my environment, I have 50+ AP int he campus on 20+ Cisco 4500 switches.  I have single WLAN and it is mapped to one subnet.  All wireless users would be on that subnets, whereas wired users are on 20+ subnets of their own.
Can someone help me to see under what scenarior (or requirement) that I would want to have multiple vlans mapped to single SSID?
    Thanks.

having a large number of users in single subnet is not the best in all designs, since you will have a large single broadcast domain which is a true disaster with dense networks. If you the company policy states that we need only one single ssid
for the whole employees within the company, it doesn't make sense to have them all on the same subnet.
A lot of options are available to overcome such issues :
for example, we might have AP groups feature , dynamic vlan assignment given that we have radius server in place, and vlan pooling.
It might not be feasible to have RADIUS server all the time, and AP groups might be kind of administrtive overhead as well as it might induce a lot of issues when aps fail over from controller to controller --> Vlan select is a good soultion considering the previously mentioned reasons.

  • 802.11r (Fast Transition) - multiple WLANs required for legacy clients?

    Hello,
I have a Cisco 5508 WLC with AIR-CAP3502E-E-K9 APs. I want to enable 802.11r (Fast Transition) and understand that some legacy clients may not support 802.11r and therefore if you select, for example, FT 802.1X as an authentication key management, legacy clients may not be able to connect. The Cisco documentation suggests creating a second WLAN with the same SSID, so one WLAN uses FT 802.1X and the other WLAN uses 802.1X.
But when you edit the layer 2 security for a WLAN it is possible to select FT 802.1X and 802.1X. Does this mean there isn't a need for two WLANs with the same SSID? If the client can't authenticate using FT 802.1X will it fall back to 802.1X? Or is the recommendation to always create two WLANs with the same SSID but different authentication key management and the client will connect to which ever one has the "best capabilities"?
For testing I can't find any non-802.11r devices so it's difficult for me to see what would happen if I had one WLAN but with both FT 802.1X and 802.1X selected
    Many thanks.

If you remove FT from the WLAN, does the 3G connect ? When FT is enabled, some clients wont connect, thats been my experience.

  • Help Enabling 802.11b Support

Can anyone help? All I want to do is enable 802.11b support on my Cisco 877W. My 802.11g clients can see and attach to it no problems. My 802.11b clients cannot see it at all. I have tried all sorts but nothing has helped. My config looks like this:
    interface Dot11Radio0
    no ip address
    encryption key 1 size 128bit 7 BC48CE99C4E9B683819990D3C1A5 transmit-key
    encryption mode wep mandatory
    ssid *****
    authentication open
    speed basic-1.0 basic-2.0 basic-5.5 6.0 9.0 basic-11.0 12.0 18.0 24.0 36.0
    48.0 54.0
    station-role root
    no dot11 extension aironet
    bridge-group 1
    bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled
What do I need to add to make it visible and available to 802.11b clients?
    Many Thanks,
    Matt

I'd start by defaulting the AP back to factory default, no WEP, no authentication.
Check to see if the 802.11b clients can connect.
If all the 802.11b clients are running the same software, check to see that they are up-to-date drivers & client software. If you're using the MS client software (Zero Wireless Config) try a client using the vendor's client software instead.
If the clients are not eve associating, look at the basic parameters: things like preamble length (legacy default is "long" which is a one meg data rate)
If you can get the 802.11b client to connect whith all open parameters, then add WEP. Be advised that some clients need the WEP entered as HEX, not ASCII.
For example ASCII "ABCD" would be "41 42 43 44" in hex ... make sure you're using the same system. IF youre using something like "12345abcde" that can be a valid (but incorrect) hex string when ou really intend for it to be ASCII.
Also note that leading or training spaces (ASCII 20) are valid characters. Make sure you do not have leading or training spaces in your WEP (unless you really want them there, in whch case, make sure they're there)
Make sure the Ethernet format is correct: use the Web GUI to set up. Check the parameters on the "Interfaces" page and do not (at least initially) use the "Best throughput" or "Best Range" settings, leave it at "Default Settings"
If your 802.11b clients are PDAs, bar-code scanners, or other hand-held devices, check that they are at default settings for the standard 802.11b protocols; some use proprietary protocols for better performance or security.
That's about it for me ... let us know if any of that changes (works / doesn't work, but acting differently / doesn't work, looks the same).
    Good Luck
    Scott

  • 802.11n only 5GHz or 802.11b/g compatible?

Using a wireless connection to an AE, I don't notice any difference in speed and/or performance with my MB while in the "802.11n only" (5GHz) mode compared to the "802.11b/g compatible" (2.4GHz) mode. No matter which mode, I don't seem to get more than 130 MBit/s. Could someone please provide me the correct AE settings and/or tweaks necessary for me to obtain the optimum speed. FYI, my AE is connected via Ethernet to a cable modem with Charter Communications 5.2 Mb/s High Speed Internet service. (I already installed the 10.5.8 combo update with no problems)

I see you have marked this solved... but would just like to confirm. Are you using download speeds as your measurement?... or moving files within your local network? For the most part, even FiOS... which is generally the fastest internet available for the average consumer... will not saturate the bandwidth of 802.11g. You will not see any faster internet speeds using 802.11n vs. 802.11g.

  • Force 802.11b mode for a wireless adapter

Hello, I would like to know how to force a wireless adapter to work on the 802.11b band only (this is, make it so it does not use g/n).
    Thanks

Butcher wrote:I don't really think that is going to help. (It does not.)
That's probably because your wifi device driver module doesn't support enforcing 802.11b mode, like my b43:
    # iwconfig wlan0 modu 11b
Error for wireless request "Set modulation" (8B2F):
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.
Does forcing a slower rate without changing mode help, in your casee?
    # iwconfig wlan0 rate 11M

  • MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module Error

I installed the Intel MSI MS-3871 WLAN 802.11b/g/n 1T1R+BT2.1 EDR Combo Slim Module on my motherboard running Win 7 Pro x64 and MS Office Pro 2007.
The software/drivers for the module added Bluetooth features to the Office 2007 applications.
Every time I reply to an email for the first time, I get the following pop-up error box:
Custom UI Runtime Error in Send to Bluetooth
    Quote
"Error found in Custom UI XML of "Send to Bluetooth":
    Line: 1
    Column: 143
    Error Code 0x8000405
Failed to find Office control by ID
    ID: FileSendMenu"
The error box has two buttons: OK & OK to All
I can disable the pop-up error box by unchecking "Show add-in user interface errors" under "In all Microsoft Office Programs:" in Tools/Options/"Other" Tab/"Advanced Options..." button. I can also disable the "Send to Bluetooth" option in all Office applications.
I'd like to know if there is a solution for this issue other than turning off the notification of the add-in user interface error or disabling the feature?
How do I troubleshoot this issue?
I have the latest Intel drivers installed. The drivers for the Bluetooth side of the module are from Motorola and the drivers for the WLAN 802.11bgn side of the module are from Ralink.
    Bluetooth Devices:
    Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 22-Nov-10, Driver Version: 3.0.0.285
    Network adapters:
    802.11bgn 1T1R Wireless Adapter
Driver Provider: Ralink, Driver Date: 27-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.1.4.0
    Bluetooth Network Adapter
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 16-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.0.2.266
    Ports (COM & LPT):
    Bluetooth Serial Port (COM5)
Driver Provider: Motorola, Inc., Driver Date: 30-Jul-10, Driver Version: 3.0.2.259
The offending driver is very likely the Bluetooth: Motorola* Bluetooth 2.1+EDR USB Device Version 3.0.2.285.
    The Intel Download Center indicates it's valid for all OS and the following Intel products: DP67BG, DX58OG, DX58SO2, DX79SI, DX79SR, DX79TO, DX68BC, DX68ZV, DZ77GA-70K, DZ77RE-75K, & DZ87KLT-75K.
This driver also causes issues with Microsoft Office 2007 & 2010 applications when you copy to the clipboard and paste from the clipboard. It will copy text and paste as a black blob.
What are the chances of getting an updated driver from Motorola?
