Enable paperforms barcode in reader

Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum or if this has already been answered (first time post).  I've done extensive searching and reading and, despite many articles and posts related to the topic (here and other blogs) I can't get the answers I'm looking for - and can't seem to get an adobe representative to return a call.
I am an existing Adobe Acrobat Pro customer (group license - windows7 32/64b) looking to enable paperforms barcode extensions in reader.  We are a relatively small shop and expect that we would add pdf417 codes to a handful of existing forms and expect returns from several hundred users.  If I understand documentation correctly, licensing can be on a per-form basis or per-user basis.  I do not expect that the per-form basis (max 25?) would be exceeded over several years.
I've designed a set of forms in LiveCycle Designer 8.2 with pdf417 barcodes and need to add whatever licensing is necessary to extend this functionality to Reader.  We do not have, nor want to build out a full livecycle enterprise system/server/integration.  I believe this is a bit of overkill for our needs.  We have a decoding and data extraction workflow in place that satisfies the downstream data needs.
What I'd like to see is a licensing option that would allow us to extend paperforms barcodes to reader and continue to design forms in livecycle designer.  If someone can point me in the right direction or an Adobe representative can contact me directly to discuss particulars that would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

George,
Thanks very much for the response.  I've contacted the datalogics folks and they've been very helpful (got a test version of pdfjt).  I haven't actually built out a test for this (gonna do this today) but it seems like this would be more involved.  Do you know if the datalogics extension key/certificate can be embedded in existing forms - without having to build the forms through the pdfjt?  If this is how these sorts of tasks are accomplished - then I'll move in this direction but it does seem like one should be able to embed the key (even manually if needs be) without all the overhead of a server-based solution.

  • Can't reliably create a PDF enabled for commenting in Reader

I've hit a brick wall trying to find out why my Acrobat Pro 7.0.8 is broken. As of yesterday, I cannot reliably create a PDF that is enabled for commenting in Reader. I get an error message: "You do not have permission to write to this file." However, this message is halfway false Acrobat does indeed create a PDF where I tell it to. It's just not a reviewable file, which you can tell when you re-open it and see the special dialog box that first pops in front of you, and there's a key/starburst icon in the lower left corner of the Acrobat window. So the resulting output file isn't really enabled, and I've made no progress.
All I know is that before May 1st, this Acrobat Pro feature worked flawlessly every time I used it.
I tested my own file on two other co-workers' PCs and they also cannot save my file as enabled for commenting. One of them has Acro. Pro 7.0.5 and the other one has Pro 7.0.9. Nor can they save other PDF files as enabled for commenting. But creating a short (one-line) PDF from Word or WordPad DOES work, and I can save that file as enabled for commenting.
I tested a few of my existing PDFs: some of them can be output to the reviewable format without any problem, but some of the more recent ones I can't especially if they're larger. Even a Word file as small as 9 pages will not convert. I tried both printing it to the Adobe PDF printer as well as using PDFMaker. Neither one works on this file. But I was able to create reviewable PDFs from simple Word files and some older (April 2008 or earlier) Word files that were longer.
I think some incompatibility happened because of the Windows updates that get silently shoved to our PCs every Tuesday (I work for a large company). But I could be wrong to blame Microsoft.
Would the new Acrobat Pro 7.1.0 update fix this problem?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3948
My system: Windows XP, Svc. Pack 2, Word 2003.

After I removed the comma in the filenames of my problematic test files, this solution worked for me, too. I was able to again save the PDFs as enabled for commenting in Adobe Reader (to make them reviewable).
    Thank you, thank you!
This definitely looks like a bug to me, because a comma IS allowed in filenames in both the PC Windows and Mac OS X operating systems.

  • Enable Tools in Adobe Reader

    What is the difference between:
    A. Enable for commenting and analysis in Adobe Reader (or Enable typewriter tool in Reader), and
    B. Extend features in Adobe Reader
Enabling the commenting tool also enables the typewriter tool, but not vice vera. All annotations can be saved.
If the typewriter tools is enabled, it seems that the document (including forms) can save the annotations made.
What does the "Extend features to Adobe Reader" include that the commenting and typewriter tools does not? Digital signature?
    Thanks for helping.
P.S.  I know how to enable and use these tools, I just need a reason why I would want to use one over another.
    Krys

Reader is not only the name of the product but describe its operation. A file viewer or reader can not modify the file it is viewing, no notes no saving of form field data.
Enabling comments, typewriter tool, and other annotations allows a use with Reader to add any of the annotation objects.
To save a form with filled in form fields, involves additional form rights being granted to a user with Reader to save the form and entered data.

  • Disabling/Re-enabling Adobe's Acrobat Reader Plug-in

    Hi there
I was forced to install Adobe's Acrobat Reader Plug-in in order to view and download my bank statements. However, I would like to use Safari's default PDF viewer plug-in when browsing other than my bank's website.
Is there any way to disable and re-enable the Adobe Acrobat Reader (Plug-in) without having to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue with 9.0.0 -- option to disable from Reader's "Internet" options was grayed out.
This is a side-effect (feature?) of how Adobe installs the plug-in at the System level
    /HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
instead of at the User level
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
I switched to an Admin account, launched Reader, and the option was not grayed out. I deselected it then quit and switched back to my user account.
When I launched Reader in my user account and opened preferences, then selected Internet, the option was still grayed out but now the "feature" was disabled.
So, Adobe has decided that individual users don't merit control over their own plug-in preference. It's the admin's choice and that dictates for all users on the system.
Like you, there are only a few situations where I am forced to use Adobe Reader -- certain medical, insurance, or financial forms that don't render or transmit accurately when using Preview.
Drives me nuts -- those are exactly the kind of forms I want to save as PDF to disk when completed -- and Adobe explicitly prevents saving as PDF. I can transmit the completed form to the provider, or I can save a blank form, but I cannot save a PDF of the completed form. Like chewing on soap by the time I'm finished...
Anyhow, hope that sorts it out for you.

  • Batch processing for Enabling Usage Rights for Reader

    Hello,
We have a lot of documents that we are converting to fillable pdfs using Acorbat 9 which will then be sent out via email to be filled by users. Since there are 50-100 different files, is there a way to use Batch Processing to enable usage rights to Reader for all those documents? Any help or advice is appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Sam

There's no way with Acrobat. You can with Adobe's LiveCycle Reader Extensions product, but it's likely not worth it for just this.

HP Photosmart C3180 all in one printer. is there a driver that will enable this printer to read SDHC cards.

This is a limitation of the USB hardware on the C3180 which will not read SDHC cards.

  • Enable Usage Rights for Reader 9

    Hi,
I'm reading through a pdf document and I want to make comments.  Apparently I need to enable the usage rights through Advanced/Extend Features in Adobe Reader.  However, I don't have the Advanced tab (Reader 9).  Do I need to update to a newer version?  I've tried doing this but the download only proceeds so far then stops.  I've tried temporarily disabling my Antivirus but this doesn't change anything.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need Acrobat Standard or Pro to Reader-enable a document. Reader itself cannot do this. Reader 10 allows you to add sticky notes and hightlight text annotations, even of the file is not Reader-enabled, unless the document has security restrictions that prevent it.

  • Automatic Enable Usage Rights in Reader

We have several programs that can natively create PDFs. We have been manually enabling usage rights in reader in them with Acrobat 8.0 Pro. Is there a way to automate this with distiller or some other way?

If you've got a form workflow that large, you'd probably want to check and be sure you are within the usage rights for Acrobat enabled forms.
Forms enabling in Acrobat is intended for low-use situations.

  • Barcode scanner/ reader on N80??

    Hi
I have seen a few reviews of the N80 on the web which refer to it coming bundled with a barcode scanner/ reader, but I can't seem to find this on mine. Is this feature/ app hiding somewhere or has it been removed from UK models for some strange reason? Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks

  • Does ES Designer enable 2D barcodes for an unlimited number of Reader users?

    Hi,
I've the Acrobat Pro License, and I'm considering to purchase LiveCycle Designer ES separately.
But first I've to be sure about two issues.
I read from Acrobat Pro Extended Guide that I can enable Reader user to save form data:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/3D/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7e0d.w.html
This feature is avaible with a limit of  either 500 addressees for the form or 500 "data extraction" also with the Acrobat professional license (license agreement 14.13.3 ).
In another discussion on these forums It was said to me that LiveCycle Designer ES removes this limitation:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1978157#1978157
    Is it true?
Form enabling for Reader users is also necessary when adding a 2D barcode:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/3D/WSB6B0B0A6-FD16-4d4b-A729-815994F689BF.html
Otherwise the barcode is rendered in an encrypted way and can't be decrypted.
Can you confirm to me that Acobat Pro + LiveCycle extended makes me able to enable the 2D Barcode capability so that barcodes will not be encrypted?
    Thanks a lot
    Giuseppe

So first of all, if you have bought and installed Adobe Acrobat Professional then you also have Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES (for PC only).  You do not need to buy it seperately.
If you would like to extend your forms beyond the license provided in the EULA with Acrobat Professional then you will need to buy Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES or Adobe LiveCycle Barcoded Forms ES if you wish to use Barcoded Forms.  Designer alone does not change the licensing.

Not True, new barcode technology does not need any additional software in the desktop. (Refer Introduction part [here|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/display/profile/newBarcodePrintinginSAPusingSmartforms])
What symbology you have used, did you check whether your scanner supports the used symbology?

You can't create mail folders on the iPad. If you are using an IMAP/Exchange account you can set up folder on another device and they will be reflected on the iPad. If you have an POP3 account there is no way.

  • Why do I have to keep saving my PDFs as enabled for commenting in Reader?

As part of my review process, I create a PDF, enable it for commenting in Reader, send it to reviewers, receive comments back from them, reply to the review comments, and send it back to the reviewers so that they can see the replies and make further comments.
Since I upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat 11, I'm finding that if I add any replies or comments of my own, I have to enable the PDF for commenting again before I send it back to my reviewers. Otherwise, the reviewers get a message that says, “This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader. This document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available.” In Acrobat 9, I only had to enable it for commenting once, at the very beginning of the review process. It's really a pain to have to do this every time, and I often forget, since I didn't have to do this every time with previous versions of Acrobat. Is there any way to get around this?
I also cannot find a way to create a new action that represents the menu path:
In Acrobat 11, File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting & Measuring.
If there was some way to create an action for this, it wouldn't be so bad.

It's often hard to determine the cause of the usage rights no longer valid. It happens when some sort of change is made other than those that are allowed. It can be due to font problems and other problems that Acrobat attempts to automatically fix.
Adobe specifically prevent you from automating the process of extending documents with Acrobat.

  • Enable for commenting in Reader -- Inconsistent behavior?

Many similar threads on the forum, but my problem seems different.  I've built a portfolio in Acrobat Pro 9, containing multiple folders -- each with multiple files.  I want to enable all the files (mostly pdf's) for commenting in Reader  (urging clients to upgrade to Reader 9).  The portfolio will have password security allowing printing, commenting, forms, and existing signatures.
With security off in Acrobat Pro, I opened each folder, selected all files as a group, and enabled for comments under the comment menu.  (Although that menu item is followed by an ellipsis ...., no dialog box followed.)  Still in Acrobat, I confirmed that the Comment and Markup Tools were available for each file.  I then reset to Password Security under Portfolio Properties, with permissions as noted above, including commenting.  Immediately after this, I saved the portfolio, and the title bar changed to SECURED as expected.  Still in Acrobat Pro, I checked all the files in all the folders, and the markup tools remained available  (except with jpg files, as I think is expected).
When I open the document in Reader 9, only the first file in each folder has the Comment and Markup Tools menu option available.  I repeated the process described in the previous paragraph, this time enabling each file individually then setting the security for the portfolio.  This managed to get two more files with Comment and Markup tools available, but the remaining 20 or so files still had none.  When I open Portfolio Properties in Reader 9, under the Security tab, the upper box shows Password Security and the Show Details button pops up confirmation of the permissions I had set, including that Commenting is allowed.  However, the lower box, Document Restrictions Summary, gives similar information, except that commenting is not allowed.  This discrepancy makes no sense to me.
When I open the Security | Show Security Properties ... for an individual file, Commenting, Assembly, Signing and Template Creation are starred as restricted.  For the few files that do allow commenting, the starred fields are the same, except that Commenting is unstarred (allowed) and Form Fields is starred instead.  All the files were set up the same, and most are pdf's created from Word or Excel.
Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it?
    Thanks for the help.

OK, I think that is best suited to larger organisations who create lots of documents that need to be commented on around the organisation.  Our application is a CAD system that exports a surface based CAD model as a U3D file embedded in a PDF.  So the user in the CAD Office creates a CAD model and exports a PDF as a lightweight file format to pass to someone in another department, or maybe their customer.  They want to be able to measure the odd length and hole diameter easily in Reader.  I've been asked if the CAD system can create the PDF file already enabled for commenting.

  • Enable Attachment commenting in Reader using Acrobat Pro 8

I am using Acrobat Professional 8. My document consists of a main form that needs one form field filled and many pages stamped. There are also several attachments, each with form fields and/or the need for stamps.
Once released, the document will reside in a central storage program to be accessed by many different users on several PCs. We are currently installing the latest Acrobat Standard package on computers to enable use of our new form(s).
    I have 2 questions:
    1) Is there a way to create the document (using Acrobat Pro 8) such that Reader can use both stamps and form functions? If so, how about attachments?
    2) Is there any way to easily port custom stamps to different PCs? I've tried dropping the "C:\Documents and Settings\nnnn\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0\Stamps\....pdf" file into All Users, but Acrobat 8 Pro doesn't see it there. I've also tried dropping the file into user-specific folders, but other users still do not see the stamps.

    If you get this:
    Invalid "Adobe PDF" printer properties
    Do not change spooler settings.
Please select "print directly to the printer" option (from Adobe PDF printer properties "advanced" tab)
    Try this:
Find the Acrobat printer in Printers.
Right click on it and select Properties then the Advanced Tab.
For me, "Spool print documents..." was selected.
The Fix:  Deselect "Enable advanced printing features".
    Click OK.
