Enable Session Timeout - Guest web-auth

Hi All,
Just a quick one. If this timer expires when using web-auth on a guest wlan in the following way
PC --Ap -- WLC (campus) -- Anchor WLC (DMZ) --- www
Does the web session break and the user will be redirected to the web authentication page?
Many thx indeed,
Ken

Hi there.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/5.0/configuration/guide/c5users.html#wp1048408
Thanks for the doc above. It has the info in there. Many many thx for your help.
Ken
The smaller of this value or the session timeout for the guest WLAN, which is the WLAN on which the guest account is created, takes precedence. For example, if a WLAN session timeout is due to expire in 30 minutes but the guest account lifetime has 10 minutes remaining, the account is deleted in 10 minutes upon guest account expiry. Similarly, if the WLAN session timeout expires before the guest account lifetime, the client experiences a recurring session timeout that requires reauthentication.

  • Enable Session Timeout with 802.1X authentication help

I have a scenario where there are 3 controllers with flex connect enabled.  I am broadcasting an 802.1x WLAN through all 3 controllers, "WLAN A". WLAN A on Controller 1 and Controller 2 have "enable session timeout" checked and set for 1800s.  Controller 3 does not have this feature enabled.  In my deployment, I am connecting tablet PC's to the wireless network.  All the tablets between the sites using Controllers 1, 2 and 3 were functioning fine while connecting to the 802.1x, but just recently, the tablets conneting to AP's on Controller 3 are not able to connect anymore. Is this an issue with the tablets not renewing authentication encryption? Not really sure why the tablets originally connecting to WLAN A are no longer doing so. Other WLAN's are functioning fine and the tablets are able to connect to the PSK WLAN's. Thanks
    Best Regards,
    Sean

it's hard to tell from the description, you'll need to do some troubleshooting to find out.
Does this only happen when a user roams to Controller 3?
You'll want to debug the client, and the mobility handoff
Does this happen on a new connection on Controller 3?
debug the client and the aaa process.
I'd also take a look at the logs on your AAA server and see if it is showing an error when Controller 3 tries to auth a user.

  • FlexConnect VLAN Central Switching and guest WEB Auth

    Hi,
I have a senario where all my AP's are flexconnect AP's, that is because og WVoIP.
In most loacation I have a local intenet connection for guests, and beacuse of that the Guest SSID is locally sitched.
I have a few small locations that do not have a local subnet for guests and on those locations I would like to centrally switch the guest trafic.
I was looking at FlexConnect VLAN Central Switching to solve my problem, but as far as I can see this only works with 802.1x SSID's and aaa override.
Is there no way to do FlexConnect VLAN Central Switching on SSID's with WEB auth or PSK?
Hope some one can answer me.
    Thanks
    Aksel

So create a new WLAN, the WLAN profile will be different that the original guest WLAN and assign it a WLAN ID of 16 or higher. This new WLAN will have the same setting as the original guest SSID except that local switching is not enabled.
You now need to create AP Groups so you can specify site with local guest vlan's will use the original SSID and the sites with no guest local clan will use the new SSID you created.
Here is a doc regarding AP Groups

  • WLC2112 with Guest / Web-Auth and vlan

    Hi
I'm trying to configure my WLC with guest SSID and vlan 10.
The security is only set to Web-auth, and it is all working if the guest network is set to nativ vlan (1) But it seems that the http(s)://1.1.1.1/login.html is not reacheble from the guest SSID/VLAN??
    Please help.
    Management IP Address 192.168.14.252
    Software Version 6.0.182.0
    Emergency Image Version
I have tried with ver. 5.2 also -

I think that 1.1.1.1 is only reachable from a wireless client during webauth. They should not be able to reach that address once they have passed through the web auth page.
Don't know if that helps, or not.

  • Session Timeout in weblogic 6.1 SP3-- Urgent

    Hi
We are currently using weblogic 6.1 SP3 and iPlanet for our application. The session timeout in web.xml is set to 100 mins but the session doesn't timeout, i.e., we can still access the application without being locked out. How can I fix this??
What is happening is that a new session is being created automatically after the sesion timeout. our application doesn't validate the user.. the authentication is done by some PKI tokens. can that be the reason for this behavior??? If so, how can we fix it??

What is the heap size ? How many useres are hitting the system ? What is the approx size of the session? Turn on -verbose:gc and monitor the GC activity. Are the sessions really inactive ?
Make the timeout 30 secs and the InvalidationIntervalSecs to 20 secs and see if it makes a difference.
If you still have the same results attach the pofiler trace here. A test case would be good too.
    Rakesh Aggarwal wrote:
We are running a J2EE servlet in Weblogic 6.1 SP3 on Windows NT. The test client to this servlet opens a new Http session on every request.
The server containing the servlet does not seem to be releasing memory associated with the session. The server eventually runs out of memory due to this. We verified this with a profiler tool. It shows Strings allocated with ServletRequestImpl.getSession() (weblogic.servlet.internal.session.RSID.getID()) not freed. We have set the session invalidation timeout to 1 min using:
    1) session-timeout=1 in web.xml,
    2) TimeoutSecs=60, InvalidationIntervalSecs=60 in weblogic.xml for the web-app containing the servlet.
We have also tried setting session.setMaxInactiveInterval(60secs) for the servlet. The latter setting does seem to work as verified from a UI client. We are wondering whether weblogic server is not cleaning up the session even after invalidating it.
We are not saving any reference to the Http session in our servlet. So we would think that the weblogic server should cleanp the inactive session after 1 min according to the above setting.
Any help regarding this will be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

  • Session timeout and session.invalidate() -- are they the same?

I was just wondering when a session timeout occurs (either by setting the session-timeout in web.xml or the server's default timeout), is the session automatically invalidated? Or should we call setMaxInactiveInterval() instead? Or is calling session.invalidate() the only way to invalidate a session?

    Hello all,
Both are same in terms of functionality, but if you use both of them like
1: You specified the tag sessionTimeout and
2: in your program the session.maxInactiveIntervalTime( value ) here if the value is(we gave it in terms of seconds like for 40 minutes we give 2400) then the program code will override the value previously set in web.xml

  • Guest WLAN and Web Auth?

    Hi Guys,
Maybe someone can help me out?
I just finished setting up a trial "Cisco Virtual Wireless Controller" with nearly the same configuration as our Physical
"Cisco Wireless Controller" with the exception of having 2 ports.  Anyhow, I managed to get everything working except for the WEB AUTH on the Guest WLAN.  When a client connects, he gets a DHCP address from our ASA but when we try to get to a website, we never reach the WEB AUTH page.
What I tried so far is..
add a DNS Host Name to the virtual interface and assign it to our internal DNS server.dns name was resolving but we were unable to ping 1.1.1.1
changed the virtual ip from 1.1.1.1 to 2.2.2.2 and modified the DNS entrydns name resoved but still could not ping 2.2.2.2(I think this is normal)
changed the virtual IP to a private address of 192.168.102.1 and modified the dns entrysame result
I've attached some screenshots of our configuration.

    Troubleshooting Web Authentication
After you configure web authentication, if the feature does not work as expected, complete these
    troubleshooting steps:
Check if the client gets an IP address. If not, users can uncheck
    DHCP Required
    on the WLAN and
give the wireless client a static IP address. This assumes association with the access point. Refer to
    the
    IP addressing issues
    section of
Troubleshooting Client Issues in the Cisco Unified Wireless
Network for troubleshooting DHCP related issues
    1.
On WLC versions earlier than 3.2.150.10, you must manually enter
    https://1.1.1.1/login.html
    in
order to navigate to the web authentication window.
The next step in the process is DNS resolution of the URL in the web browser. When a WLAN client
connects to a WLAN configured for web authentication, the client obtains an IP address from the
DHCP server. The user opens a web browser and enters a website address. The client then performs
the DNS resolution to obtain the IP address of the website. Now, when the client tries to reach the
website, the WLC intercepts the HTTP Get session of the client and redirects the user to the web
    authentication login page.
    2.
Therefore, ensure that the client is able to perform DNS resolution for the redirection to work. On
    Windows, choose
    Start > Run
    , enter
    CMD
in order to open a command window, and do a  nslookup
www.cisco.com" and see if the IP address comes back.
On Macs/Linux: open a terminal window and do a  nslookup www.cisco.com" and see if the IP
    address comes back.
If you believe the client is not getting DNS resolution, you can either:
Enter either the IP address of the URL (for example, http://www.cisco.com is
    http://198.133.219.25)

Try to directly reach the controller's webauth page with
    https:///login.html. Typically this is http://1.1.1.1/login.html.

Does entering this URL bring up the web page? If yes, it is most likely a DNS problem. It might also
be a certificate problem. The controller, by default, uses a self−signed certificate and most web
    browsers warn against using them.
    3.
For web authentication using customized web page, ensure that the HTML code for the customized
    web page is appropriate.
You can download a sample Web Authentication script from Cisco Software Downloads. For
example, for the 4400 controllers, choose
Products > Wireless > Wireless LAN Controller >
Standalone Controllers > Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers > Cisco 4404 Wireless
LAN Controller > Software on Chassis > Wireless Lan Controller Web Authentication
    Bundle−1.0.1
    and download the
    webauth_bundle.zip
    file.
These parameters are added to the URL when the user's Internet browser is redirected to the
    customized login page:
    4.
ap_mac The MAC address of the access point to which the wireless user is associated.

switch_url The URL of the controller to which the user credentials should be posted.

redirect The URL to which the user is redirected after authentication is successful.

statusCode The status code returned from the controller's web authentication server.

wlan The WLAN SSID to which the wireless user is associated.

These are the available status codes:
Status Code 1: "You are already logged in. No further action is required on your part."

Status Code 2: "You are not configured to authenticate against web portal. No further action
    is required on your part."

Status Code 3: "The username specified cannot be used at this time. Perhaps the username is
    already logged into the system?"

Status Code 4: "You have been excluded."

Status Code 5: "The User Name and Password combination you have entered is invalid.
    Please try again."

All the files and pictures that need to appear on the Customized web page should be bundled into a
.tar file before uploading to the WLC. Ensure that one of the files included in the tar bundle is
login.html. You receive this error message if you do not include the login.html file:
Refer to the Guidelines for Customized Web Authentication section of Wireless LAN Controller Web
Authentication Configuration Example for more information on how to create a customized web
    authentication window.
    Note:
Files that are large and files that have long names will result in an extraction error. It is
recommended that pictures are in .jpg format.
    5.
Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later is the browser recommended for the use of web authentication.
Other browsers may or may not work.
    6.
    Ensure that the
    Scripting
option is not blocked on the client browser as the customized web page on
the WLC is basically an HTML script. On IE 6.0, this is disabled by default for security purposes.
    7.
    Note:
The Pop Up blocker needs to be disabled on the browser if you have configured any Pop Up
    messages for the user.
    Note:
    If you browse to an
    https
site, redirection does not work. Refer to Cisco bug ID CSCar04580
(registered customers only) for more information.
    If you have a
    host name
    configured for the
    virtual interface
of the WLC, make sure that the DNS
resolution is available for the host name of the virtual interface.
    Note:
    Navigate to the
    Controller > Interfaces
menu from the WLC GUI in order to assign a
    DNS
    hostname
    to the virtual interface.
    8.
Sometimes the firewall installed on the client computer blocks the web authentication login page.
Disable the firewall before you try to access the login page. The firewall can be enabled again once
    the web authentication is completed.
    9.
Topology/solution firewall can be placed between the client and web−auth server, which depends on
the network. As for each network design/solution implemented, the end user should make sure these
ports are allowed on the network firewall.
    Protocol
    Port
    HTTP/HTTPS Traffic
    TCP port 80/443
    CAPWAP Data/Control Traffic
    UDP port 5247/5246
    LWAPP Data/Control Traffic
    (before rel 5.0)
    UDP port 12222/12223
    EOIP packets
    IP protocol 97
    Mobility
    UDP port 16666 (non
    secured) UDP port 16667
    (secured IPSEC tunnel)
    10.
For web authentication to occur, the client should first associate to the appropriate WLAN on the
    WLC. Navigate to the
    Monitor > Clients
menu on the WLC GUI in order to see if the client is
associated to the WLC. Check if the client has a valid IP address.
    11.
Disable the Proxy Settings on the client browser until web authentication is completed.
    12.
The default web authentication method is PAP. Ensure that PAP authentication is allowed on the
RADIUS server for this to work. In order to check the status of client authentication, check the
debugs and log messages from the RADIUS server. You can use the
    debug aaa all
    command on the
WLC to view the debugs from the RADIUS server.
    13.
Update the hardware driver on the computer to the latest code from manufacturer's website.
    14.
Verify settings in the supplicant (program on laptop).
    15.
When you use the Windows Zero Config supplicant built into Windows:
Verify user has latest patches installed.

    Run debugs on supplicant.

    16.
On the client, turn on the EAPOL (WPA+WPA2) and RASTLS logs from a command window, Start
    > Run > CMD:
netsh ras set tracing eapol enable
netsh ras set tracing rastls enable
In order to disable the logs, run the same command but replace enable with disable. For XP, all logs
    will be located in C:\Windows\tracing.
    17.
If you still have no login web page, collect and analyze this output from a single client:
    debug client
    debug dhcp message enable
    18.
    debug aaa all enable
    debug dot1x aaa enable
    debug mobility handoff enable
If the issue is not resolved after you complete these steps, collect these debugs and use the TAC
Service Request Tool (registered customers only) in order to open a Service Request.
    debug pm ssh−appgw enable
    debug pm ssh−tcp enable

  • Guest Anchor with web auth using ISE guest portal

    Hello All,
Before launching into my exact issues, could anyone confirm if they have completed a wireless Guest anchor setup using 2504 controllers on 7.4 as the anchor (5508 is the foreign) with webauth external redirection at ISE 1.1.3 using ISE Guest Services?
I am attempting this for an internal POC and have hit a couple of issues. Firstly I am looking for correct configuration confirmation prior to going in depth with a couple of the issues. I've been using the TrustSec 2.1 how to guides to build the parts I am not strong on so if anyone has actual completed this setup, I'd love to go through it with you.
massive thanks to anyone that can assist.
    JS.

    Thanks for the reply RikJonAtk.
so to start with, based on the trust sec documents, of the guest WLAN on the anchor I need to configure mac filtering at the layer 2 security menu as well as enable RADIUS NAC under the Advanced tab. But when I do this, I get an error message that states that mac filitering and RADIUS NAC cannot be enable at the same time.
Additionally, if I just enable the RADIUS NAC setting under the Advanced tab in the WLAN, I get another error message that states that the priority order for Web-Auth can only be set for radius, so I go to the AAA server tab and send local and LDAP to the not use column and hit apply. If I move to another menu then check the priority order again under the AAA servers tab, the local and LDAP have been moved back to the menu field to be used again.  So I initially though it might be a bug, but I was hoping to find someone here that has done this already and can look at my issues and maybe walk me through their configs, which I'll mirror and see how it goes.
    Thanks in Advanced,

  • What is the default web-auth required timeout period?

    Hi,
As according to the cisco config example. (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008067489f.shtml),
    it says:
If clients are in Webauth_Reqd state, no matter if they are active or idle, the clients will get de-authenticated after a
web-auth required timeout period (for example, 300 seconds and this time is non-user configurable). All traffic from the client (allowed via Pre-Auth ACL) will be disrupted. If the client associates again, it will move back to the Webauth_Reqd state. If clients are in Webauth_Reqd state, no matter if they are active or idle, the clients will get de-authenticated after a web-auth required timeout period (for example, 300 seconds and this time is non-user configurable). All traffic from the client (allowed via Pre-Auth ACL) will be disrupted. If the client associates again, it will move back to the Webauth_Reqd state.
What is the default web-auth required timeout period stated in the example?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
Yes it is 300 seconds and non-configurable to prevent DOS by depleting IP address on Guest wlan/vlan. There is an enhancement request filed esp. for your situation with Pre-auth ACL.

  • Excel web part and choice filter web part session timeout

    Hi,
I have set up a excel web part and choice filter web part so I can change the parameters for the excel with the choice filter. I used this link: office.microsoft.com/en-001/sharepoint-server-help/connect-filter-web-parts-to-excel-web-access-HA010105470.aspx
The problem that I have, is that each time I select a parameter through the choice filter web part, I get a session timeout:
How can I prevent the session timeouts? I allready checked the Trusted File Location in the central admin (the location where the Excel is uploaded is not mentioned specifically, but the main domain is, so I guess all domains that built upon the
main domain are also trusted locations?)

    Hi vjo,
Please try to increase the Short Session Timeout in the trusted file location, compare the result.
If this issue still exists, please check the ULS log to find whether there is something about this issue.
The path of the log file is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.

  • WLC 4402 - only present guest with web auth page once every (x) days

    Hi all,
I am looking to migrate our guest wireless from a third-party system to the WLC.  Currently, we change our guest password (WPA2 PSK) every (x) days.  Each time the guest password is changed and connections are made with the new PSK, guests are redirected to a terms and conditions page which they must accept.  The MAC address is then cached and the page is not displayed again until we clear the MAC cache and change the PSK.
I can almost replicate this with web auth in passthrough mode on the WLC, but it presents the guest with the terms and conditions page each time they reconnect to the WLAN, whether it be from roaming offsite or turning the wireless radio off then on.
Is there any way to have the WLC replicate our current system, where a MAC is cached and the page is not displayed until some other event takes place (changing the PSK or clearing the cache?)
    Thanks!

Wait ... Shaoqin, will the 7.5 code be released for the 4400 series controllers?  The current release is 7.0.240.0 - I see releases up to 7.4 on the 5500 series controllers

  • Guest WLAN Web Auth problem

Was just wondering whether anyone else had seen this problem as it is defeating TAC right now…
We have a number of 4402 WLCs on various sites and another one in a DMZ acting as an anchor controller for the guest network. We’re using just the basic web auth built into the WLC for access out on to the Internet for visiting third parties. All the EOIP stuff is setup and working and all clients can associate and get an IP address.
All clients get redirected to the authentication page and all clients appear to authenticate successfully. With the exception of a few clients, at this stage most get stuck and cannot browse the web; the pages just time out. All other Internet traffic (SSH, TELNET, SMTP, ICMP) works fine once authenticated , just not HTTP/HTTPS.
We have upgraded the WLCs to the latest code on the advice of TAC (6.0.196) but this made no difference. The problem seems to happen on all OSs (Mac, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Ubuntu, iPhone) and all browsers (IE6, IE7, IE8, Safari, Firefox, Chrome). We have tried upgrading drivers and changing browser settings, but nothing seems to help. We have working XP laptops and non-working XP latops; it just doesn’t make any sense.
The attached packet capture shows a non-working laptop and the only thing I noticed was very large window sizes (512k) which seems a bit odd.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    hi there
apparently i have a fix for the issue, it has just been tested for over 8 hours and my computer running wireless on windows 7 never disconected anymore (and i don't have either quick 1 second hangs anymore)....HOW????? it was the wireless driver!!
my computer has an Atheros 928x wireless card and i was running version 8.0.0... (can't remember the exact version) which as far as i know was the version bundled with the original installation alhough i dont remember if i had an update from somewhere else... anyway. i did this:
    1. went to device manager, clicked on the wireless card, clicked delete, then confirm with the box about deletion of the software connected with the device.... then clicked on "scan for hardware changes" - in theory i wanted to update the driver with another .exe i downloaded but i thought let's give a go... and long story short, win 7 found in "his" files another suitable driver, probably the "generic" one, but nevertheless works as a charm, driver version is 2.0.0.74, driver date 09/06/2009, driver provider: microsoft, digital signer: microsoft windows, driver name : Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter.
if you need more info about the driver let me know!

  • Web Auth FAIL on guest wlan

We have a 2100 Wlan controller set up with multiple wlans.
We are having problems on the Guest VLAN in that everytime a user tries to authenticate via Web Auth, they fail and are redirected to the username/password page.
Local accounts have been added and the WLAN has been set up to use web auth but each time a user tries to authenticate the following message is in the log:-

  • Web Auth using 5760 Guest Anchor and ISE

I am trying to deploy a new guest wireless solution using a 3650s as the MA, a 5760 as the MC, and a 5760 as the guest anchor.  ISE is being used as the guest auth server.
When no auth requirements are set on the guest wlan, everything works fine.  I get an IP address and can get to the internet, VPN, etc.  As soon as I enter the security web-auth command on the wlan, my client drops and goes into an Acquiring IP Address state.  When I check the client on the controller, it is in a Policy Manager State of START.
As soon as I remove the security web-auth commamd from the wlan, I connect right up.  It is my understanding that in guest, the client gets an IP address first in order to get redirected to the spoofed external web page, in my case ISE.
Any thoughts on what I am missing on my guest anchor, or MA config?  Do I need to make any changes to the wlan on the MC?  Any documentation about the relationship between the MA, MC, and guest anchor would be appreciated, I am not 100% sure which devices are required to have the client reach the guest anchor and get connected.

I hope this may help you
