Enable virtualization

Hi,
I have a Pavilion DV7-2260ed. It has the Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz. It has hardware virtualization, but Virtual PC's detection application warns that the capability is disabled in the BIOS.
My BIOS does not have an option to enable it.
I have read on fora that the advanced options in the bios can be enabled. However, for this specific model there is no Flash file available.
What can I do?
Thank you,
Kasper

Hi Lisa,
I think i have found out what the problem is. On these two sites, i found my answer.

I'm the owner of a HP Pavilion Dv7-2215eb. The latest firmware is F.46. And i've updated to this one.
In the bios however I do not have the option to enable VT (Virtualization Technology). I've read some forums and apperently it's possible is some bios'es, and in some it's just not possible. I need it to be enabled for school, so this is a serious issue.
Any solutions?
Thanks in advance,

In your case, it is not possible for you to enable Intel VT because the CPU does not support this feature. (Your dv7-2215eb has an Intel Core 2 Duo T6600.)

It seems that my T6600 Duo core processor is unable to support VT-x.
I do not have the enable Virtualization Technology option in my BIOS and also do not know how and if I can enable the advanced options. But now, I think it is not necessary anymore.
Thank you for your reply though.

    Ricky119,
We can inquire further, but the IdeaPad product line does not support VT presently.  As it is not marketed as specifically having this feature, this will likely be seen as a future requirement rather than a bug to fix.

    Hi pallabmukherjee,
Thanks for posting. Just to confirm with you, when you say enabling the virtualisation. Do you mean enabling the Intel Virtual Technology? If you're aiming to do this you can do so by going into your BIOS.
    Please see illustration below.
    Hope this helps.

These fix a battery charging issue and have several other important fixes from previous updates rolled in. However, the real problem you will face is that the P7350 processor standard in that machine does not support virtualization.

  • Enabling Virtualization Technology to Install Windows 8 on Virtual Machine?

Hello…I have an HP HPE-310t Desktop computer that is currently running the 32-bit version of Windows 7.
I'm interested in installing the Windows 8 Customer Preview on a virtual machine such as Virtual Box.  I've done a little bit of research on how to do this, but there is one thing I am unclear about, and so I'm requesting assistance here.
The documentation I've read states my processor must support Virtualization Technology.  The processor is a quad-core, so I'm assuming it does.  However, the documentation also says Virtualization Technology is often disabled by default, and may need to be enabled to use it.
I'm not sure how to do this.  I'm assuming it has to be done in BIOS.  Can anyone please tell me where to find the option to enable Virtualization Technology, or check to see if is already enabled?
Thank you for your assistance.  J. Danniel

Hello, and thank you for replying.
I actually found the Virtualization Technology option in BIOS and enabled it.  I had no trouble installing Windows 8 on Virtual Box.
However, while I'm sitting here typing this, I should say something:  I did install Windows 8 Customer Preview on my computer when it first came out.   (I did a full system backup with Acronis True Image prior to the installation.)
Anyway, the installation went smoothly, and I installed a dozen or so programs on it with no problems.  When I installed a Thunderbird E-Mail backup program, I rebooted, and my computer froze at the HP Welcome/BIOS sign-on screen.
It just stayed there.  I shut the computer off for a minute or two, restarted it, and it froze again.  I began to feel a touch of panic.  I shut the computer off yet again, waited 15 minutes, and restarted it using the Acronis True Image boot CD.   Fortunately, it booted up, so I restored my backup.
For the brief period of time I used Windows 8 on my actual system and not in Virtual Box, my reaction was highly negative.   I was VERY impressed with the revised Explorer--they finally got that right.  I actually LIKE the ribbon in it!
But Metro?  The elimination of a Start button?  It's hell on earth to use a keyboard and mouse to get to a Shut Down, Log Off, or Restart option.
I can't envision a scenario where I would upgrade my computer to Windows 8.  Messing with it once in a while in Virtual Box...yeah, I'll do that.  I can nuke the whole thing without much chaos.
    Thanks again!   Jd

    Hello,
Thank you BiggAl (Guru) for responding. Sorry about the delay in my getting back, I am in school, hence little time.
You were 100% correct, once I connected a wired keyboard, F1 accessed the BIOS reliably.
Now my problem is that I don't see where in the BIOS to enable "virtualization" mode.
Can some one tell me how?

  • Enabling Virtualization on a 970A-G46?

I've been trying to figure out how to enable Virtualization.
    My BIOS version is V1.11/20121031.
My CPU is a AMD FX-8120 (Which supports AMD-V).
I'm using the GUI Click Bios 2.
My goal is to run create and run a Linux Ubuntu VM using virtual box for development. Is it possible?

Got it. I'm dumb. I enabled IOMMU in click BIOS. Got to create the VM and it's installing UBUNTU. Works well - so far. We'll see how it runs.

  • Virtualization for C40D A4-5000

So hey, I just bought this laptop a couple of weeks ago because it's on sale and it's CPU supports Virtualization.
So the thing is, I cant seem to find the option to enable Virtualization in the bios. AMD's spec page for the A4-5000 clearly states that it suports virtualization. I've tried updating my bios but I still can't find the option to turn on VT. Any help or suggestion?

    I don't know.
But I can tell you from what I read here that Toshiba is unlikely to provide such features in its consumer (lowest) Satellite line. You'll usually find them in the business (Tecra and Portege) models.

  • T500 - Intel P8800: HW Virtualization not recognized.

I am trying to setup Microsoft's Windows XP Mode which requires HW virtualizaiton to be enabled. I went into my T500's BIOS and enabled HW virtualizaiton under the CPU menu, however, when I run boot and run Microsoft's havdetectiontool.exe it tells me that HW virtualization is not enabled.
Can anyone tell me what I am missing here?
    Thanks

    Two things.
    1. Make sure you completely power off and on again after enabling virtualization
    2. Are you running any other sort of virtualization software, such as VMware?  If so, that may take control as only one app can be vt enabled at a time.

  • Help - Enable Virtualization on GP60 2OD (BIOS related)

    Hi everyone,
I hope someone can help me.
I want to enable virtualization (vt-x) in my GP60 2OD but I cannot find it in the BIOS's options.
I checked Speccy and it says that mine is supported but Disabled.
Is there a way to enable this because it's kinda frustrating to have a laptop that still limits you.
I'm having a feeling that this would require to flash a custom BIOS or hack it but I don't know doing either of these options.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thank you very much.

typically there is no option for vt-x, but its already enabled by default assume in recent bios versions
make sure that you are using latest and correct BIOS for your notebook and it will be already enabled
