Enabling Acrobat Reader to install on Windows 7

I've followed all troubleshooting instruction to load and run Acrobat Reader on my Windows 7 system. Still, the application will not run. What am I doing wrong?

So here is as far as the program goes.

    I don't know if this is the right section but I experience the following issue with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI installed on Windows 8.1. When I start Acrobat the related window opens normally but, after some scroll up and down along the document, it blocks, Acrobat doesn't respond to any command I can give and, in place of the pointer arrow, a vertical bar, as the one of the text editor appears. The only way I can stop Acrobat is by means of the task manager. I tried to de-install and the re- install Acrobat but the behaviour is always the same. What can I do??

    Have you opened Acrobat and gone to Help>Updates to get an updated install?

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Not Installed.

    Trying to open link to pdf file from IE8 using Windows 7 64bit and pdf file will not open "adobe acrobat reader not installed".  Yet I can open PDF files outside of IE8.  Adobe Reader X is installed.  Have tried remvoving, reinstalling, running app as admin.  Have tried different version of Adobe Reader and same error.  This same link works fine when opened with Google Chrome.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks for posting the image.
    Could you please confirm if you receive this error while opening any PDF? Could you try opening: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.1.pdf
    Do you receive the same issue?

  • I have Acrobat Pro 9 installed on Windows 8

    I have Acrobat Pro 9 installed on Windows 8 and it asked me to download Adobe Reader 11.0.09 Font Packs - Asian and Extended Language Pack but it says I need Adobe Reader XI to be installed first.  Will this pack work with Acrobat Pro 9?  Is there a different pack for Acrobat Pro 9?  Thanks for any help.
    Also: I am not doing anything with languages other than English.  I don't read them or write them.  I just use English. Why do I need such a pack?

    Hi Hanoch ,
    Compatibility of Acrobat 9 with Windows 8 could be a reason that you are facing such an issue.
    As Acrobat 9 is an older version ,that could be one of the reasons it is prompting you to download the Reader 11.0.09 Font Packs.
    Would request you to check for an update first ,and if it fails try switching on to the latest version of Acrobat ,i.e 11.0.10.
    To check for Updates.
    Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help>Check for Updates.
    You may also want to refer to the following link.

    See if that helps.

  • How to update a version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader Professional when upgrading windows XP to 8.1 ?

    How to update a version 6.0 of Acrobat Reader Professional when upgrading windows XP to 8.1 ?

    There is no product called Acrobat Reader Professional. There are two possibilities with different answers.
    1. You have Acrobat Professional (no "Reader"). You will have to buy the latest, Acrobat 11 (XI) Pro. No upgrade pricing is available for version 8.
    2. You have Adobe Reader (no "Professional"). You can download the latest free Adobe Reader http://get.adobe.com/reader

  • Unable to make Acrobat X the default handler/opener of PDF files on a Windows 8 laptop with Acrobat Reader also installed.

    I have a user with a Windows 8 Sony Vaio laptop with Microsoft Office 2013 Professional, Acrobat X Standard, and Acrobat Reader installed. Another program on his system requires Acrobat Reader so we cannot just remove that and keep it off the system. Regardless of what he does to set the default program to open PDF files with, when he opens a PDF file it always opens it in Acrobat Reader and not Acrobat itself. We have re-associated it and set the default program handling repeatedly and have also tried complete uninstall and reinstall of both Acrobat and Acrobat Reader which had no effect on this. At this point I am of the opinion that this is a bug and the file association is being overridden somewhere in the registry besides the file association entries. Any help is appreciated.

    The only supported way to set the default handler (besides the Wizard and cmd line properties) is via the UI at Edit > Preferences > General > Default PDF Handler. The installer has to be invoked and many registry entries get touched during the switching process.
    You should also verify your dot versions of the product support Windows 8: Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes.
    Finally, while you Acrobat 10 should work with Reader 11, try reverting to Reader 10 (that should be your last resort).

  • How can I be sure Acrobat Reader will install on the disk I want it to and not on my C:\ drive?

    Hi Guys,
    I have a large desktop system running under XP Pro + SPs 1,2 and 3 that has several hard disk drives,
    I like to keep my operating system on my C:\ drive, which is a small drive and over half full and all my applications on my much larger F:\ drive.
    I now need to install either Acrobat Reader v 10 or else Reader and Air seperately.
    How can I either;
    ensure that these both install on my F:\ drive? or
    if they insist on installing on my C:\ drive, can I move them to my F:\ drive without creating problems?

    BroomstickPilot

    Hello,
    Once you start the Adobe Reader X installation you will get a Windows which says : Extracting Installation Files, once its sucessfully Extracted the file you will get this window :
    Just click on Change Destination Folder button and you will get this window :
    From the top click on the Drop Down Menu and you will get the other Drives (As per your computer you will get F:)
    You can select the Destination in F: drive
    Hope it helps !!

  • What is the correct way to determine the install location of Acrobat/Reader to install plugins?

    We were previously using the following registry key to determine where we need to install our Acrobat/Reader plugin.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\%d\InstallPath
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\%d\InstallPath
    (and append \plugin_ins to that result)
    With Acrobat DC, I no longer see that registry key.
    I was planning on changing our code to instead look here to determine the install paths:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Acrobat.exe\Path
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroRd32.exe\Path
    Is this the recommended way of determining where to install plugins? I would rather not have our installation break when they update Acrobat/Reader the next time (for example maybe in the future they decide to change the executable name...)

    Enterprise Guide can be found at http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/index.html   (came right up on a web search for me).  You want the information about product tracks and installer bit locations.
    SDK releases are usually within 30 days of the product release.

  • Acrobat Reader MDT Install String

    I have configured a transform file for Acrobat Reader and want to update to the 10.1.4 patch. I am trying to install Acrobat Reader using this command via MDT:
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst /qb
    It works fine directly on the machine, but gives an error of 1619 in the log file...
    Has anyone done this before or can offer any suggestions to try?

    Have you tried using the Adobe Customization Wizard? Your setup.ini would just need to contain direction for the patch.
    Example:
    [Startup]
    RequireOS=Windows 2000
    RequireMSI=3.0
    RequireIE=6.0.2600.0
    [Product]
    msi=AcroRead.msi
    CmdLine=TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp
    See also: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf#page=77 for more information.

    Here is what my setup.ini file states:
    [Startup]
    RequireMSI=3.0
    CmdLine=/sall /rs
    [Product]
    msi=AcroRead.msi
    PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp
    CmdLine=TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"

  • Acrobat Reader starts in new window

    Hi,
    When a PDF document is opened, it it opened in a new Window. I want to open it in 'frame'.
    It occurs not only in web-apps, but also in GUI transactions like SNOTE.
    As far as I know, this is set in the reader: Preferences > Internet: open in browser activated.
    But switching it on or off makes no difference.
    (I have full local admin rights on my client, there is no company setting or thin client concept in place)
    I'm using acrobat reader 8.1.2
    Any idea how I can open PDF in frame?
    Regards, Toine.

    Try activate "Open in browser", save and restart your computer.

    Print (⌘-p), then click on the big blue arrow to expand the window, There, you will find "Pages" and you can choose. Then, click on PDF at the bottom left and choose "Save as PDF"

  • Why Acrobat Reader not Installing?

    Whenever i tried to install the complete Adobe Design Premium CS3 suit, the acrobat reader not working. What should i do now?

    There is no such thing as Acrobat Reader.
    Are you trying to install Acrobat Pro, from creative suite?
    Or Adobe Reader, entirely separately?
    In either case what do you mean by "not working"?

  • Acrobat XI Pro installed on Windows 7 but won't start

    I bought a stand-alone version of Acrobat XI Pro, and installed it on my Windows 7 computer. The first time I try to launch, I get a window asking me to verify the serial number. The DDL for product name doesn't list Acrobat XI Pro and it won't accept my serial number (even though I copy/pasted it from the order page on the adobe.com site). It says that the serial number is valid but that the product isn't on the machine. And yet, when I navigate to program files> Adobe > Acrobat, viola--there it is.
    When I double-click the exe file, I get the message, "validating serial number", followed by "serial number is valid, but qualifying product could not be found..."
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, to no avail. And yes, I've also tried restarting after installing as well. I am, of course, on a deadline and really need this working...
    Help!

    I'm pretty sure that I bought the full version, but will check.
    The window wasn't asking for what version I upgraded from, but I can try that...and I hadn't installed the old version on this machine (new computer).
