Enabling Back Button behavior in browser?

How can I allow the back button in a browser to function like
a .html
page in a .SWF?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link. Out of curiosity, is this using a level
of AS3 that
would be way too advanced for a beginner to even consider?

  • Change in back button behavior

We are upgrading from ColdFusion 9 to ColdFusion 11.  We noticed a change in back button behavior.  On pages running CF 9 the back button works, but on pages running CF 11, when clicking the back button, we get a browser "confirm form resubmission" message.  Since it is the same browser, it is clearly a change in ColdFusion.  Does anyone know when the change was made?  Is there a setting that controls the behavior?
    Thank you,
    David

We should ignore the difference in Coldfusion version for a moment. It might just be that the previous behaviour was incorrect and what you now observe, with CF11, is the correct behaviour.
A form-resubmit warning is essential. In fact, it can even be vital in certain circumstances. It is telling you that someone, some process or some thread has attempted to resubmit a form.
In your case, clicking the back button apparently refreshes the action page of the form. This is analogous, in business terms, to repeating an order that has already been placed. The related validation code, queries, etc. will run once again. Obviously an unwelcome situation.

  • On certain websites, my own, that use flash the pages do not work if you use the back button in the browser. They have to be refreshed before any of the links will work again. Very frustrating.

When I am browsing my own sites (2 of them) which are built in Flash, everything is fine following the links on the pages. But if I hit the back button in the browser, the pages freeze up and none of the links work anymore. If I refresh the page, then the links work fine.
This does not happen on Safari as after pressing the browser back button, all is well.

Dear jscher2000, thank you for your response! I'm running 16.01 version, so the 3.6.20 version isn't the correct one. I've updated it yesterday.
I also have to mention that today everything seems to work just fine! :) I don't experience the problems anymore and all links work again just normally, eventhough I'm logged into Facebook account. Maybe it was just a temporary bug.
I couldn't say what was the reason to that solution, but I'm glad there aren't problems anymore with Mozilla.
Thank you again and best regards,
    Nina

  • Urgent ...problem with back button in my browser

    hello,
i created one login.jsp file and wellcome.jsp file and one logout.jsp file and one login controleservlet. If i login once i got wellcome page.In that i have logout button, and if i will click that button
it will display logout successfully message on browser.my requirement is that after i will get logoutsuccessfully message i want to avoid back button in my browser.if i click back button then it will display an error message like "your session expire".
please send the reply as soon as possible.

I'm not certain of whether you want to disable the back button in the user's browser or you want to avoid this error message...
Assuming you want to avoid the error message entirely, I would set a variable in the session scope when the user logs in and any time you don't see that when you process a request in your servlet, redirect the user to the login page.
If you're looking to simply disable the back button in the browser, beyond asking the user nicely not to click the back button, good luck to ya. :)
    Hope this helps!

  • There was an error communicating with the server. Click on the back button in you browser and try resubmitting the form.

I've had several users complain of receiving this message after they have filled out and submitted a form.
There was an error communicating with the server. Click on the back button in you browser and try resubmitting the form.
However the data is being saved in forms central. I can't duplicate the issue on my end but it seem to be happing frequently with other users.

Do you mind emailing the URL of your fillable form to me ([email protected]).
I would like to investigate as to what the issue might be with Internet Explorer.
    Sorry for the inconveniences.

  • Down State stays after back button pressed on browser

I have built a Navigation Bar in Dreamweaver CS5. I want the nav images to indicate what page you are on by showing the down image state. This is a check box within the Navigation options "Show 'Down Image' initially". This works fine on all pages as long as you use the buttons to navigate, but when you press the back button on the browser (safari & firefox), the page that you have just come from also stays in the down state, affectively showing 2 down states. Has anybody had a similar problem and can help.

    Hi
This is standard behaviour with browser back buttons, if the page is in the browser cache they will display the page in the same state as the cached page.

  • Is there any way to disable the back button of the browser?

I dont want to cache some pages in my application so that they will not get back when back button of the browser is clicked.
Is there any way for that?
I also want to know if the back button can be disabled.

  • Old values are displayed when i click the back button of the browser

    Hi all,
I am having a INPUT screen having 2 textfields and a "Confirm" button. When user enters values in these textfields and clicks on "Confirm" button, another CONFIRMATION page is displayed where these values are just displayed as h:outputText. But when user clicks the back button of the browser previosly entered values are getting displayed in the INPUT screen. My question is how to remove these values or set to null on click of the Back button of the browser?
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi,
i believe this should handle the browser. For instance, you have to tell him with meta tags, not to cache the website. Until yet I didn't succeed in doing so!

  • Help me to resolve this URGENT: browser back button behavior

    Hi All
How can I force my application to give the following error in click of back button of browser or backspace .
Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.
To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button.
hmm I am using no-cache, no-store and expire '0', Mine is struts application with resin as App server.

HEY, take it easy, sometime knowing the reason for a thing may help to find another solution for the same problem. We are here to help, some people really help other one only tries to. In any case there is no need to be rude, nobosy here is working for you or have an obligation to answer you.
1.- this should be on the j2ee forum place, because is everyone posts here all other section will be empty of people and answers, so please help yo keep all the forums running well. And may get better answers on less time.
2.- I assume you are uusing J2ee and not applets. That may be a 100% different thing to fix that.
3.- Can you post some architecture of the pages call to see, its different if its a home page than its a result of nested calls.
4.- I guess you should do something like this to solve your peoblem:
if using html forms inside a jsp as I guess you are using. You can get the JSP be call from a servlet that introduce inside the form a unique random created value inside a hidden type input. so each time you press the back button the cached jsp will be called and the unique number wont match with the new attention requirement. All you need for that is a shared resource between the 2 servlets. Maybe a EJB or something. It depends a lot on how are you doing the pages call. for that we need to know that. In anycase the message you are trying to get os not from your app, but from the browser, so you may need to implement something like security certificates to have that, but if not you may use a patched own solution like the one I gave you.

  • Annoying back button behavior

New Mac user. I find that often, not always, hitting the back button displays a list of previously visited sites instead of just returning to the previous site - is there a fix for this?

Ok. Then this is not normal behavior. As first step, do you have the most recent version of OS X and of Safari? According to your signature, you don't. You should update to OS X 10.6.7 and Safari 5.0.4. Assuming that doesn't fix it, the next step is to create a new user account and test it to see if the same thing happens there. To do that:
    - Go to >System Preferences>Accounts
    - Click on the + sign to add a new account (you may have to enter you admin password). Just name is test or temp or something like that.
    - Log out of your normal account and into the new one. Try Safari and see if it still happens. Note that your trackpad preferences won't carry over to this new account. So, for example, if you had Tap To Click enabled, it won't be by default in this account, but you can set them how you like in >System Preferences>Trackpad.
Let me know if the problem persists in the new account (I'm guessing it won't).

  • Clicking on the Back button in web browser does not take you back properly

When using Info View and drilling down through reports (using the InfoView Portal in the "View my documents" settings of User Preferences), if you have drilled down through several reports and then want to go back to the page you were viewing before you drilled down one more layer using the browsers BACK button takes you back a random number of pages - NOT back one page.
Is there a fix or workaround for this?
    Thanks

There are some big differences if using say a webi report.
I just tested on XIR2 SP4 and back forward worked fine with CR drilldown, using the sample reports.
Could be a report design issue or something wrong with your deployment, maybe even a browser setting (not sure as I don't work reporting issues too often).
You can wait to see if someone else has run into this or open a message with support to have an engineer take a look.

  • Forward/Back button behavior updated in v. 2 release?

Hi, does anyone know if the button behavior on the remote control has been updated in the new software release? Previously when watching recorded videos it skipped forward in three minute increments. While paused it would jump 10 seconds I think.
Skipping forward thirty seconds would be a lot better for me.
    Thanks,

Your browser's back/forward buttons are 'page' based.
Tabs ON a page are often javascript based, and are not seen
    as individual
    pages by the browser.
Your option would be to turn the javascript based tabs into
    page based tabs
forcing a new page request when switching between tabs. That
    may or may not
    be desirable for your needs.
