Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP2 B04/07/2004 core dump enablement
What is the procedure to enable core dump for future analysis? Earlier versions code changes for magnus.conf does not seem to work!
What magnus.conf changes are you trying?
If its a non secure(no SSL) 6.1 web server running on solaris 8 or later the following coreadm settings should allow core dump creation:
# coreadm
global core file pattern:
init core file pattern: core.%p
global core dumps: disabled
per-process core dumps: enabled
global setid core dumps: disabled
per-process setid core dumps: enabled
global core dump logging: disabled
To set the coreadm options as shown above, refer to man pages of coreadm command.
Thanks

JRockit R27.1.0 Core Dumps
We recently upgraded to the following version of JRockit:
java version "1.4.2_12"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_12-b03)
BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.1.0-109-73164-1.4.2_12-20061129-1418-linux-ia32, compiled mode)
Since the upgrade, it has been core dumping intermittently. Looking at the dump, it seems to be related to Stack Overflows. However the stack dump does not seem deep enough to merit one. In an attempt to address we upped our Stack Size from -Xss256k to -Xss512k but it is still occurring.
Is this a known bug?

Import command for one table core dumps
Hi,
The following import command is causing a core dump;
$ imp system/***** file=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-19_11.00.01-db.dmp fromuser=ioeadmin tables=(utils) 2>&1 |tee imp.log
But this one does not:
$ cat imp.params
FULL=y
FILE=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-19_11.00.01-db.dmp
GRANTS=y
INDEXES=y
$ imp system/*****@odinprd parfile=imp.params 2>&1 |tee imp.log
More info:
SunOS 5.8 / Oracle 8.1.5
Thank you for any help on thisI don't have access to Metalink. What would it say -- "imp tables=" doesn't work in 8i?
So I have tried the following:
1. drop the table I want to restore.
2. run this command to restore all tables and let it fail on those tables that already exist and recreate the one i dropped.
imp system/code4202@odinprd full=y show=y file=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-27_00.00.00-db.dmp 2>&1 |tee imp.log
But it doesn't. It says this about the table in question:
"ALTER SCHEMA = "IOEADMIN""
"CREATE TABLE "PARTNER" ("PARTNER_ID" VARCHAR2(16) NOT NULL ENABLE, "PARTNER"
"_TYPE" VARCHAR2(16), "ADDRESS_ID" NUMBER(10, 0), "PAYMENT_ID" NUMBER(10, 0)"
", "PRICE_LIST_ID" NUMBER(10, 0), "DEFAULT_CARRIER" VARCHAR2(32), "DEFAULT_M"
"ETHOD" VARCHAR2(32), "CARRIER_ACCOUNT_NUMBER" VARCHAR2(32), "BILLTYPE" VARC"
"HAR2(10), "TMB_TYPE" NUMBER) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255"
" LOGGING STORAGE(INITIAL 10240) TABLESPACE "APP_DATA""
. . skipping table "PARTNER"
why is it skip this guy? It does not exist:
SQL> desc partner;

SQL> desc ioeadmin.partner;

Thanks/export/home/husam/release/lib/libstorage_s.so.1:backend.c stab #530 host:(0,211),The key to your problem is probably the stabs reading error.
How was backend.c compiled?
Normally dbx will load stabs information on demand as needed.
You can start dbx and use the "module" command to load
the stabs information right away without running the program or using RTC.
Try this:
(dbx) module backend.o
Does that cause the stabs warnings?
If you can "repair" or "normalize" the stabs information in that module,
the crash will probably go away. -

It always seems to happen on the kpucHTDelete call. I have searched the net for kpucHTDelete but found nothing.
Can someone
1. describe what kpucHTDelete is supposed to accomplish and why it might fail.
2. Is there a way to trace / log OCI ?
3. Any other suggestions to help with this problem.
Thanks in advance.
GaryWell, it seems to me a bug.
You can enable tracing using NET 8 Assistant, and from there go to the tracing tab.
Select the SUPPORT trace level from the following pull down menu located in the Client Information section:
OFF: Tracing disabled.
USER: Trace information applicable for users.
ADMIN: Trace information applicable for database administrators.
SUPPORT: Trace information applicable for customer support staff.
Enter a valid directory name in the Trace Directory field in the Client Information section. This directory specification is where trace files are written on either the client or server.
Enter a valid filename in the Trace File field in the Client Information section. This filename specifies the name of the trace file on the client or server.
Click on the "unique File Trace Name" checkbox if you want a unique identifier appended to each new trace file created.
Save your configuration.
You can check the SQLNET.ORA file found in the net80/admin directory path to verify that tracing is enabled. There is an entry called TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=SUPPORT located in that file and entries that indicate the log file location and name that you specified in the Oracle Net8 Assistant.

Weblogic 6.1 sp5 core dump by OCI driver
I have encountered a core dump problem on weblogic server 6.1 SP5 the error message
as below, I am using weblogic oci driver for oracle "libweblogicoci37.so" , anyone
can help?
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.

One way to get a substantial boost in reliability is to switch
to the latest appropriate Oracle thin driver.But then you can suffer performance losses.Actually, the latest oracle thin drivers are very fast. The 10g
driver in particular. Well, we are on 9i here and we have lots of CLOB and BLOB
operations. Understood. The latest should work. (How comfortable does that make you ;) )
It is a sad choice we used to have to make between
faster-but-buggy homicidal old OCI code (wherein a bug in one
module can cause a segfault in an innocent unrelated module's
execution, and bring down a whole JVM) and the reliability of
Java. Fortunately, the future is at hand. The future is at hand? I do believe you are starting to sound a
bit like an evangelist. :-)Yep. Back in '96 when we wrote and marketed all the first JDBC drivers
for MS SQLServer, Oracle, Informix and Sybase, we did it solely
so enable our application server to be able to do real work. We were all
absolutely sure the driver market would dry up in 6 months as all the
DBMS vendors made excellent free type-4 drivers. We were over-optimistic.
Sybase's driver still requires you to install non-standard tables and
procedures in the DBMS. Oracle drivers are sloutching toward sufficiency,
but their first GA driver had a hard-wired value of READ_UNCOMMITTED
for getTransactionIsolation, and if you tried setTransactionIsolation
of either READ_COMMITTED or SERIALIZABLE, the driver would throw an
exception! We actually had a weblogic workaround to intercept this
jdbc call and send the "ALTER SESSION " to do what the customer wanted!
At the same time we had a major struggle to get Oracle to admit that
in spite of their documentation, OCI was not threadsafe (killing our
OCI-based driver in weblogic applications) until 7.1.4 on solaris
and NT, and 8.0.5 on other platforms. Did you know they had separate
codelines for OCI on each platform? For a while each platform's OCI
had a different hard-wired limit of the number of simultaneous connections
on client could have? For a while that limited what our application server
could do. OCI was written for simple teller-like client applications.
The new thin drivers take on more of the possible client-side
processing, and can do RAC failover etc. JoeOh well. I for one am a bit skeptical that Oracle is going to
fix java driver bugs before OCI bugs and I don't have any reason
to commit to any "platform independent" solution like java's thin
driver. We are completely based on Oracle here and we have a
J2EE solution for the app just cause we had to choose something.
If thin is better, than we will go with that.The last highest-level talks I had with Oracle folks they indicated that
they wanted everyone to go thin. OCI was a headache for them. Their
OCI code was undocumented and all the original experts had left the company.
That was in 2000 or so, so it is likely better now. They may well have
invested a lot of reverse-documentation by now.
One of the benefits of Java is the reliability. I think you'll
ultimately be happier with the thin. We do want you successful.

Zfs core dumps in Solaris Zones after patchcluster installation
Hi
I've installed the recommended patch cluster for Solaris 10 (SPARC) on my T2000 Server.
Now after the reboot all the Solaris Zones (got about 10 of them) instantly do zfs core dumps when their booted.

Installation of patch set complete. PLEASE REBOOT THE SYSTEM.
when i tried to reboot the system by init 6 the service iscsi hanged and produced syslog errors about a unkown iocall -> killed the process. System rebooted w/o errors.
Does anyone have got an idea how to find out which patch or whatever do produce these errors?Hi,
I'm having the same issue of diskmon core dumps after upgrading grid and database from 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 on Solaris 10 x86-64. Following this thread, I'm trying to deinstall the Oracle 11.2.0.1 grid home.
I answered the following questions asked by the grid deinstall tool:
1. ASM configuration was not detected in this Oracle home. Was ASM configured in this Oracle home (y|n): y
2. Specify the ASM Diagnostic Destination: /db01/app/oracle/diag/asm/+ASM
3. Specify the diskgroups that are managed by this ASM instance: DATA FRA
4. De-configuring ASM will drop all the diskgroups at cleanup time. Do you want deconfig tool to drop the diskgroups:
If I answer no to question 1, the tool exits with error.
How do I answer question #4? (confused about this question of dropping diskgroups, it's already been upgraded)
Deinstall of Oracle db Home 11.2.0.1 was successful.
The +ASM instance has been upgraded and is running fine under 11.2.0.2 except for the excessive diskmon core dumps.
Thanks,
Lisa

Indecipherable core dump on Solaris x86_64
On a 64-bit Solaris x86 machine (SunOS tempest-solaris 5.10 Generic_141445-09 i86pc i386 i86pc Solaris), I have been running gcc 4.3.4 (configured for i686-pc-solaris2.10) without a hitch. Both dbx 7.8 and gdb 7.1 are able to read core dumps created from a simple "goodbye, cruel world" program (kind of like "hello world", but it dereferences NULL at the end) built with gcc -m64 -g. However, with a more complex program, neither gdb nor dbx are able to figure it out core dumps (though they can debug it just fine if I set a breakpoint in main and start the program in the debugger).
gdb's failure looks like this:

pstack: warning: librtld_db failed to initialize; symbols from shared libraries will not be availableAre there any arcane configuration parameters in Solaris that affect the generation of core dumps?Bother. Spoke too soon. One of my tests generated a readable core file, but the rest are having the same issues as detailed above. I am examining the core dump on the machine that generated it. The sizes of the failed tests are 21,522,239 and 21,485,375 and 21,526,447, so I doubt its running into a limit. (The successful one was 27,942,207.)
On this machine, coreadm reports:

global setid core dumps: disabled
per-process setid core dumps: disabled
global core dump logging: disabledThe machine that got the successful core dump was physical while the ones where it failed were running under VMware LabManager, but I would be very surprised if that makes a difference to this matter. The successful core dump was generated by signal 9 (kill), while the bad ones have all been by signal 11 (segmentation fault). -
Application dying with core dump on what appears to be berkeley
I have a web app being run on a solaris server. This web app ran for approximately 20 hours before crashing. I have the core dump file, but it is quite large (11GB). Using mdb I am able to get the stack trace from the core dump. Could this be an issue with a corrupted BDB? Or could it be corrupted environment file(s)? A similar, but different (slightly different stack trace) error that happened on another server a few hours later. We have 3 other servers that continue to run successfully though with the same BDB objects.
We are not writing to any of the BDBs. They are read only. Same with secondary BDBs. It is a java webapp interacting with the native solaris libraries. I forgot to add, this is a 64 bit machine.
If you have any ideas/suggestions/need more info please let me know.

Edited by: user11287228 on Jun 9, 2011 11:33 AMHello,
If you can one thing that might help is rebuilding the Berkeley DB library with enable-debug and enable-diagnostic. With enable-debug we might get line numbers and see exact where we are in __env_alloc_free and see what the input parameters leading up to the abort are. With enable-diagnostic run-time checking is in place which might also help see what is causing this. (see http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17076_02/html/installation/build_unix_conf.html) Another thing to do if you are not using a private environment is to look at the db_stat -E output:

Core dump when stop sun one web server 6.1 SP6
Hi all,
I install the sun one web server 6.1 sp6 and run as FastCGI mode. Each time i stop the web server, the "core" file is generated. The following is the steps which I setup the web server:
Server Path: /i03_01/SUNTest
1. Install Sun One Web Server 6.1 SP6
2. Install FastCGI library
3. Install php4.4.2
./configure prefix=/i03_01/php-fcgi enable-fastcgi
make
make install
4. copy the php binrary to /i03_01/SUNTest/bin
5. vi magnus.conf
Init fn=load-modules shlib="/i03_01/fastcgisp4/plugins/fastcgi/libfastcgi.so"
6. vi mime.types
type=magnus-internal/fastcgi exts=php
7. vi obj.conf

app-env="PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUEST=1000"
restart-interval="60"
app-env="PHPRC=/i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config"
</Object
8. Start the Web Server
9. Open the browser, run any php programs. (the php process will be created at this time)
10. Stop the web server (* core file is generated at /i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config)
Here are the error logs:

Any one can help me?
Thanks.This has been fixed. But the plugin whch contains the fix (as part of Web Server 6.1) is not available for download yet.
Meanwhile, you can try using the FastCGI plugin bundled with Web Server 7.0 Techonology Preview ( http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=446518d5 ) -
New / malloc / threads core dump
Hi,
I'm trying to port a ftp client from Linux to Solaris. The client runs fine on both Linux and on *BSD.
I'm using the Sun Studio 8 C++ compiler on Solaris 9 4/04 x86.
The program crashes in the below class function:
-- CUT --
FILELIST CServer::ObtainFilelist(bool use_jump) {
FILELIST fl_temp, fl_temp1 = NULL, fl_new, fl_start = NULL;
pthread_mutex_lock(&(this->filelist_lock));
fl_temp = this->actual_filelist;
while (fl_temp) {
fl_new = new(FILELIST);
fl_new->next = NULL;
fl_new->magic = fl_temp->magic;
fl_new->is_marked = FALSE;
fl_new->name = new(char[strlen(fl_temp->name) + 1]);
if (!fl_temp1)
fl_start = fl_new;
else
fl_temp1->next = fl_new;
fl_temp1 = fl_new;
fl_temp = fl_temp->next;
pthread_mutex_unlock(&(this->filelist_lock));
*use_jump = this->prefs.use_jump;
return (fl_start);
-- CUT --
When running the program in dbx I get:

I tried to replace the "fl_new->name = new(char[strlen(fl_temp->name) + 1]);" with "fl_new-name new char [255]" with success. fl_temp->name is accessible, I tried to output the contents before doing the new with success.
FILELIST is a struct and FILELIST.name is a char*.

Regards,
Martin AnderssonThe stack trace seems to show a core dump from malloc after being asked to allocate 5 bytes. (The operator new in the standard library calls malloc to allocate storage.)
If your code was compiled optimized and without -g, the stack trace is not always reliable, however.
But assuming the trace is accurate, the crash is probably due to a corrupted heap. An invalid free() or delete can corrupt the heap data structures, and the the crash occurs at at later time, often far removed from the offending location. "Invalid" means
- using the wrong form of delete
-deleting an address that was not provided by the matching new operator
-freeing an address that was not provided by malloc/calloc/realloc
-freeing or deletting the same block more than once
The heap (and anything else in the program) can also become corrupted by storing through an invalid pointer or an uninitialized pointer. "Invalid" means the object pointed to no longer exists.
The heap can also become corrupted if you store beyond the bounds of allocated storage.
The classic error is this:
char* p = new char[strlen(msg)]; // forgot about trailing null
strcpy(p, msg); // write one byte too many
If you can't see any of these errors in the souce code (and theyare hard to find), try running under dbx with RTC (run-time checking) enabled, or use some memory debugger. -
Per this suggestion to uninstall xscreensaver and install light-locker, I decided to give this a whirl using the latest xfce4 packages. I find light-locker core dumping when I try to use it. Anyone else?
% light-locker
process 1737: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion "path != NULL" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1340.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

EDIT: this has nothing to do with the xfce4 packages in [testing]. I get the same error using 4.10 from [extra].
