Enabling Cuda or OpenCL for Premiere Pro CC 2014

I feel like this should be answered somewhere already, but I cannot find any info on it.
I just upgraded to CC 2014 and am trying to get Premiere to render with Cuda or OpenCL as I was able to do in CS6.
I have the Mercury Playback Engine Software Only grayed out and have tried everything to my knowledge to fix this.
I am on an iMac and have found solutions with PCs changing settings in the Nvidia Control Panel, but Mac does not have an Nvidia control panel.
With CS6, I was able to add my graphics card (GeForce GT 650M) to the "cuda_supported_cards.txt" or "opencl_supported_cards.txt", but in CC 2014, these files do not exist. And if I create the file and add them to the package contents of Premiere CC 2014, nothing happens.
I have the latest Nvidia Driver installed:
CUDA Mac Driver
Latest Version: CUDA 6.5.25 driver for MAC
Release Date: 11/19/2014
And that didn't help.
If this helps, here is what happens when I run GPUSniffer through Premiere:
Please help.
I will be in CS6 until I can figure this out.

I thought the bottom limit was 1GB for CC, so that must be why the sniffer tells you of insufficient memory

  • Enabling Mercury Playback engine for Premiere pro Cs5.5

    Hello,
I am trying to turn on the mercury playback engine to use my graphic card (Geforce GTX 560Ti + 1gb Ram)
I have modified that cuda_supported_cards.txt using my graphic card name and when I tried to save it it says access denied
so I have copied that cuda_supported_cards.txt file to the desktop and modified it and replaced it back in to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5   .
After all this the mercury engine with cuda is not turning on
Is it becasue my graphic card will not support to CS5.5?
    Please help me.....
    Thank you...

Run Notepad as an administrator, make the changes to add your card info, then save.  That should eliminate the access denied error.

Good call on processor - updated below.
Open to suggestions on Motherboard if you think it really matters - beyond it being X99 of course.
Cant justify the cost of high capacity SSD's at this time, and I've heard a few war stories about their limited writes when it comes to something as read/write intensive as editing video.
No idea on cooler - that was something left over from a copy paste I did.

  • Best Training Materials for Premiere Pro?

I'm a long time pro veteran of Photoshop, but fairly new to video editing and a total noob w Premiere Pro CC  (and after effects) I want to get on the fast track learning Premiere Pro and guess that taking an online video course is the most efficient path.
I don't know if there are any courses yet for Premiere Pro CC 2014, but I suspect that I can make do with a good CC course. There's Lynda.com, and the Pearson/Adobe Press/Peachpit series (perhaps others that I haven't found yet) I'm not seeing much in the way of online reviews for these. Any forum denizens have useful opinions to share?
I have only used iMovie, and GoPro Studio2. I prefer video training for general learning, with printed books (or PDF) for reference.
    Thanks!

    I second Lynda also.

(Premiere Pro CC 2014/8.2.0)

    Premiere Pro CC 2014(8.2.0)
    H.264のMOV、HDVのMPEG2、ProRes422(各種)のmov等、
    ■メディアキャッシュはUSB3.0(UASP接続)のSSD(リードライト実測約440MB)
    Premiere Pro CC(7.2.2)、Premiere Pro CS6

Final Cut Pro 7/Final Cut Pro X
    【Premiere Pro CC 2014(8.2.0)】
    ・CUDA(高速処理)……
    ・OpenCL(高速処理)……
    ・CUDA(高速処理)……
    ・OpenCL(高速処理)……

    ・OpenCL(高速処理)……

    ・OpenCL(高速処理)……

  • Hard Drive Setup Recommedation - Premiere Pro CC 2014

Premiere CC on my old Win 7 64bit hard drive had smooth video previews. Premiere CC 2014 on my new Win 8.1 64bit hard drive is choppy and sluggish. Same ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 car which uses WDDM v1.1 as the driver. No other driver available.)
Would love some expert advice how to setup my new configuration to be optimized for Premiere Pro CC 2014, get rid of choppy video.
Video is not a huge part of our small 2 person business so
    1. I can't justify a large volume expensive SSD
    2. can't justify another 2+ days to reload Windows 8.1 and all my programs on the small SSD I have (might not even fit.)
Should I leave programs and OS only on the new WD hard drive... put Premiere project and other data files on the old TOS hard drive and use something like the SDD via eSata as the scratch disk?

    1. NEW - INTERNAL WD7500BPKX new hard drive with Windows 8.1 - (Program files only) 7200 RPM, 750GB, 16 MB Buffer, 6GB/s
    2. OLD - INTERNAL TOSHIBA MK 5056GSY old hard drive w/ Windows 7 (can be wiped and only have data files) 7200 RPM, 500GB, 16 MB Buffer, 3GB/s

    4. SPARE/DONATED - EXTERNAL (eSata, Firewire, USB) OCZ-Agility3 SSD (can be wiped) ~100GB

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.1.21) crashes when opening or creating a project

I just downloaded the trial for Premiere Pro CC (2014), and the program keeps crashing every time I open or create a new project. I can idle at the "Startup Screen" but as soon as I open a project the program closes without warning. I've re-installed all Adobe products I have, re-installed the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2012 and 2013 to get new MSVCR110.dll files (which seems to be the file causing the crash) but nothing is helping. I've also looked in every thread I've found on this forum and a lot of people seem to be having the same problem, but no one had got any answers for how to solve the problem.
Anyone have a clue on what to do? According to others formatting the hard drives don't seem to solve the problem either.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014: nVidia GTX780 in SLI

    Hello everyone!
I found these forums to be really useful in the past (read them as guest) - so I thought I'd post. For Premiere Pro CC 2014, is it worth having a rig with two nVidia 780 cards hooked up in SLI? I keep reading that PP will still only look at one card and not both of them. Thanks in advance for your help!

SLI is not used. SLI is for gaming display but of no use at all for PR. You can use 2 video cards, but SLI is irrelevant and can cause problems.
For 2 GTX 780's to be used effectively (not having one or the other used for less than 50%) you better have a monster of a machine with dual 10+ core CPU's, 128 GB memory and a raid array capable of more than 2000 MB/s transfer rate. Otherwise the GPU will be waiting all the time for the rest of the system to catch up. See Tweakers Page - Balanced Systems

  • Apple, Mac Pro, Amd vs Nvidia with cuda? Why, and what to buy for Premiere Pro?

Mac Pro has dual Amd video cards installed, and does not offer Nvidia cards with Cuda in this line up, as far as I can tell. The iMacs offer nvidia cards which seem a better choice for Premiere Pro which uses the cuda rendering capabilities. Which would be best for Premiere Pro? The quad Mac Pro, or the top of the line iMac with double the ram, say 32gigs vs 16 in the Mac Pro?  Why did Apple put AMD cards in the Mac Pro line?

    jtopenshaw wrote:

Apple believes that OpenCL, not CUDA, is the future of GPGPU computing.  CUDA is closed and proprietary to nVidia only.  OpenCL is, as the name says: open.
As of the creation and planning of the Mac Pro, nVidia's GPUs were (and most of them still are) very poor performers when it comes to OpenCL.  I expect that, over time, nVidia will catch up to AMD regarding OpenCL.  But they're not quite there yet, across the board.
Why are the GPUs in the iMac (and Macbook Pro) nVidia?  They make better and more efficient mobile GPUs at this point in time.  The GPU in the iMac is similar to the GPU in the Macbook Pro in that they're both mobile, not desktop GPUs.  AMD has a fairly poor representation in that market (so far), so Apple stuck with nVidia.
It's likely that Apple doesn't see the iMac and Macbook Pro lineup as devices to be used for massive GPGPU processing.  The Mac Pro, on the other hand is where they see that being used heavily.  Perhaps when and if AMD decides to produce an efficient and powerful mobile GPU, Apple will cut (back) over to them.  But one can only guess, there.

That's fair and is your opinion.  I don't agree. :-)

    As David and Hal said
One thing to consider is that you may also want SATA capability (which you can do with G5 towers easily, the dual cores have cards available or will shortly) and also shortly (fingers cross) for the MacBooks (there are cards for PowerBooks.)
The only possible fly in the ointment is if you are going to hold onto these computers for awhile, with the Intel Chips the non-Intels will eventually have less support and software. Though for the short term (particularly if you are relying on non-Intel native apps and need peak performance) the Quad G5s are great.
