Enabling ftp

I followed previous advice on how to enable FTP server  but I get an error message - connection failed after I enter my admin password and then type
ftp localhost.  Are there easy to diagnose/fix reasons I can't connect.  I've tried my home network, public wifi and my wireless 4g card from Verizon as my ISP, is there a setting on my computer preventing connection ??
I am new to this so don't make any assumptions - if you could walk me through it step by step that would help.

When you enter ftp localhost, then press the return key into the Terminal do you get the message connection refused or connection failed? After entering the command, take a screenshot (shift-command-3) and then attach that image to your reply so we can see the Terminal information.

  • How to enable FTP service in Solaris 10

    Hello, Everybody
I installed my first Solaris 10 today, but I have a problem with FTP process, I found I could not ftp to my new server from other equipments. It seems that FTP service is disabled by default.
Could you any guy tell me how to enable FTP in Solaris 10?
    Thanks in advance.

Since the OS is Solaris 10, how about using SMF's svcadm tool to enable/disable ftp service.
    eg.,
    # svcadm disable /network/ftp
    # ftp localhost
ftp: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
    Trying ::1...
    ftp: connect: Network is unreachable
    ftp> bye
    # svcadm enable /network/ftp
    # ftp localhost
    Connected to localhost.

  • Enable ftp root login on S11

    Hi ,
I am testing ftp on a quite recent version of S11: S11u11 update1

    Oracle Corporation SunOS 5.11 11.1 January 2012
I am wondering why the ftp root login remains disabled, even after I removed "root" from /etc/ftpd/ftpusers and reboot?

Any idea how to allow ftp root login?
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
I haven't checked the docs for all the steps to enable ftp,
but I see this output on my s11 system:
    # svcs -a | grep ftp
    disabled Feb_17 svc:/network/ftp:default
    disabled Feb_17 svc:/network/tftp/udp6:default
    Have you enabled the service?
    Thanks,

  • Enabling FTP-loging

    Hi,
with a very limited number of customers (2 to be precise) we have on and off issues with FTP out of Lightroom.
Is there a way to enable FTP-loggin in LR so we can see what it is doing and where things go wrong ?
(As an FYI, exporting the output of our plug-in and using any FTP-client to put it online, using the same system and network connection <does> work, so we're completely puzzled why LR throws us an error "access to the served has been denied". Doing all the exact same stuff over another system+connection works perfectly, so we're sure the server and credentials are OK, plus we have a large group of customers where it all works fine).
We found this link but it does not seem to do anything ... (http://lightroom-news.com/2009/01/05/enabling-ftp-logging-in-lightroom/)

Just as an FYI, we have not been able to fix this issue yet ...

  • How to enable ftp backups using Retrospect over firewall

Retrospect is currently only capable of active, NOT passive ftp, so when one enables the 10.4 firewall, it blocks Retrospect's ftp connections to my NAS. Opening tcp 20-21 doesn't seem to help.
Has anyone succeeded in getting Retrospect 6 to work with the Tiger firewall in 10.4.3?

Apologies, I've been away for a while. I personally do not use the OS X firewall (I use the Norton one), however if the normal GUI does not seem to give you the flexibility you require you can look at other tools that manipulate the ipfw rules - such as Brickhouse.

  • Enable FTPS, SSL, File Adapter, Configuration, Certificates

    Hi All,
Right now I have some file to file (FTP_XI_FTP)scenarios that are working fine. With SP14 we got a option to use FTPS(FTP over SSL).
    1.  Can any one tell me the exact steps we need to follow to use FTPS?
    2. What is the config we need to do in RZ10.
    3. What is the confing we need to do in the Visual admin?
    4. What are all the steps we need to do with the ftp server.
    4.  How to test the configuration.
       1. We are on sp14/XI3.0/kernal640/Solaris/oracle
       2. Installed SAP Cryptographic Software.
       3. Right now i could be able to connect to FTP server at a secure port 32, using PUTTY software.

  • Enable FTP login on TSol 8 12/02

I'm trying to figure out how to use Solaris Management Console to allow my users to ftp into the Trusted Solaris 8 box. It's suppose to be an FTP server. The account is there and the pasword is correct, but I get an Access Denied message and it kicks me to the ftp prompt.
Why am I using TSol for an FTP server? Don't ask. I don't have a choice.
I found the proper rights to allow the users to remotely login via rlogin or telnet, but ftp login is eluding me. There is not much out there in the way of help. I've been through all the tabs and options in SMC and have not found anything about ftp.

sorry if I'm a bit late....
When you configured your network interfaces you assigned them a security label or a range of labels. If you have UNCLASSIFIED network interfaces, then only UNCLASSIFIED labeled data can go through it and only UNCLASSIFIED users can access it, or even see it. Higher classifications are not allowed through lower classification interfaces/devices.
Check the labels on your users and network interfaces. Be sure they match, or can overlap via Min. Label and Max. Label. Also, check your user's roles and rights. Be sure they are actually allowed to use the network, like "Remote Login" is necessary for any user trying to access the system from the outside.
Keep looking at the lables and the rights, the answer lies within.

  • Web server returns 403 after I enabled FTP server

    Hi --
My web server has started returning a 403, coincidentally after I activated Server's FTP service.
This is what shows up in the error log:
Permission denied: /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable
There is no .htaccess file in the Sites directory, however.
I added an empty one readable by owner, group, everyone (-rw-r--r--   1 <me>  wheel    0 Oct 15 16:42 .htaccess).
And I turned off the FTP service.
But I still get the same error.
Mods look ok to my eye, which is unreliable:
    $ pwd
    /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default
    $ ls -alG
    total 296
    drwxr-xr-x+ 21 root     wheel     714 Oct  9 15:57 .
    drwxr-x---   3 <me>     wheel     102 Oct 15 16:44 ..
    drwxr-xr-x+  2 root     wheel      68 Mar 10  2013 NetBoot
    -rw-r--r--+  1 root     wheel  102749 Feb  1  2013 Server.png
    Whoops.

Oh, no: Sites' mods are totally wrong, of course. It needs to be world-executable.
    I did this to fix:
    sudo chmod o+x /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites

  • How do I enable the administrator account for FTP use.

I utilized an FTP enabler software to enable FTP on my Mac.  And I can FTP into the subaccounts on my Mac but I can not do so with the Main administrator account (mine).  So I went into terminal to test the Main Administrator, I get the following message.  I'm lost as to what to do to enable FTP with the Administrator account.
    Name (192.168.1.9:Administrator): Administrator
331 User Administrator accepted, provide password.
    Password:
530 User Administrator may not use FTP.
    ftp: Login failed
What I'm trying to do is to be able to scan documents from my Xerox Printer to all the Macs in our home.  I have set up my wife's and daughter's Macs to allow for scanning documents to their accounts on their Macs.  They each are sub accounts as I am the Administrator for their Macs.  Additionallly, I created a subaccount on my Mac and I'm able to scan to it as well. But when I try to scan to my Administrator account, it won't work.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm using Mountain Lion on all 3 Macs with the latest version.  I enabled FTP on all 3 Macs.

Thanks for your suggestions but it was more complicated than what you suggested.  I was finally able to find a guy at xerox that was able to resolve the issue.  I believe it involved changing some settings deep inside the bowels of the programming code much like the old days of using MS DOS to change internal settings on a PC.  I watched him do it on my screen and it involved deleting the administrator account from being locked down within the O/S.
    Regardless, thanks for the suggestion.

  • Should FTP on the system be ENABLED for SFTP Adapter to work from BPEL Code

    Hi,
I am trying to SFTP files from server1 to server2. I am getting the below fault message,
    faultName: {{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}bindingFault} messageType: {{http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension}RuntimeFaultMessage} parts: {{ summary=<summary>Exception occured when binding was invoked. Exception occured during invocation of JCA binding: "JCA Binding execute of Reference operation 'Put' failed due to: Unable to read response. Unable to read response. Please examine the above error message carefully to determine a resolution. </summary> ,detail=<detail>Read timed out</detail> ,code=<code>null</code>}
I have configured FTP Adapter JNDI name and other details correctly,
    hostname, username, password, usesftp(true),port(22).
On the server2, the FTP was disabled and was getting the aforesaid error.
But when we enabled FTP on server2, the SFTP started working fine with the same configurations of JNDI.
So, to conclude, Should FTP on the system be ENABLED for SFTP Adapter to work from SOA BPEL Code?
Please give your valuable comments and suggestions.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nagaraj Ganapa

Yes, if you are trying to write a file using SFTP/FTP to any machine, a SFTP/FTP server should be running on that machine and there should be a process listening on the correct port(22/21). This is true for any other application as well and not just for Oracle BPEL. You can not send a file to a server using SFTP/FTP when the FTP/SFTP process is not running on that server.

  • Enabling ports / port mapping for FTP

Greetings! I have an iMac G5 (Tiger) connected to the internet via an Airport Express. Connected to the Airport is a DSL modem. The Airport uses a static IP for internet access via the DSL modem.
I've enabled FTP services on the G5, and am trying to figure out how to map the appropriate ports to allow FTP access remotely from the internet. I assume I would need to use the static IP with the remote FTP client, then the Airport would route the request to the iMac using port mapping... correct, or incorrect? How, specifically, should this be set up? ie... what ports need opening, routed to where, etc.
    Thx!

  • Ftp enabling

    Hi,
I have a Sun V240 with Solaris 5.9 running on it. I would like to enable ftp for a particular user.
I have removed from /etc/ftpd/ftpusers file the line linked to that user. i thought that was all I need.
Also in the file /etc/inetd.conf the line
    ftp stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/in.ftpd in.ftpd -a
it seems ok to me. Do you have any idea about what I am missing.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply and about the compliment about my nickname.:-)
    About ftp:
    - I can log in with telnet from other machines.
    - When I am doing ftp from a windows PC, I am getting the message
    "Connected to xxx.
    Connection closed by remote host."
    - When I am doing from other Solaris box , I am getting
    "Connected to xxx.
    220 washburn FTP server ready.
    Name (xxx:root): root
    331 Password required for root.
    Password:
    530 Login incorrect.
    Login failed.
    ftp> bye
    221 Goodbye."
    - My /etc/shells
    /bin/ksh
    /bin/bash
    /bin/sh
    /bin/csh
I hope this helps to get this solved.
One addtional question: When I am logging with ssh using PUTTY, it takes long (30 secs) until the password is required. With identical servers in the same network, the password is asked immediately. what can it be different?
    Thanks in advance

  • FTP Setup on Mac Mini Server

    Hello:
First off, I am new to Mac OSX Server and servers in general.  I am trying to set up FTP so I friends/family can upload to my server. Here is where I am at...
My server is connected to my Airport.  My Airport is the DHCP server, distributing a range of IPs to the devices.  I do not have a static IP, but am using dyndns to workaround this.  Note that even though FTP services are not working, Web services are.
Created a user on the server
Updated the ACL so the user had permissions to the Share
    Enabled FTP service on server
Configured Airport for port forwarding to send to server based on IP
The issue i am having is that when i use a client (filezilla) i get a permission denied error on the share.  I can mount the share locally to my mac and edit with no issue.  Just not thru FTP.

    Thank you for the reply!
I did not have the permissions set up there.  I made it so the user i created had group access.  Then i still had no luck.  The firewall is set up and i have port forwarding to the server on my router set up.  Then i found my issue...
On the FTP service, when i set up the share permissions, i forgot select protocol options and go to the FTP tab to enable the service.  Once i did that, i was golden.
Thank you for your help again!
