Enabling GPU for WinXP 32 bit in CS5

Need some help.  I've been looking through the registry under Adobe and found under Shockwave 11 two folders.  renderer3dsetting and renderer3dsettingPerm.  Do these have anything to do with Photoshop CS5's default to grey out the GPU acceleration in WinXP 32 bit?
I know my card has GPU and OpenGL.
Or is this stuff for the internet?

Just to let you know, Chris is the guy who programmed Photoshop to do that, so I think you can probably trust what he says over what you've interpreted from Adobe's web site.

  • Minimal do-nothing plugin for 64-bit PS CS5 on Mac

I'm looking for source code for a do-nothing PS CS5 plugin, just the  bare minimum files that will be a valid XCode project, compile, and show  itself in Photoshop.  I'm working on Mac 64-bit Snow Leopard only, and  don't care about Windows or older Photoshop versions.   Most sample code  I find online or in Adobe's SDK contains too many references to other  platforms, aren't xcode projects, aren't 64-bit, and/or too much extra  stuff making it hard to tell just what is truly essential for a mimimal  do-nothing plugin.  Does anyone have such an example or know a reference  to one?

I've setup instructions here on how to get SampleFormat going on 10.8 with the latest XCode: https://github.com/MatthewCallis/bppformat/tree/simpleformat-10.8

  • GPU Settings Became Unavailable PS CS5 32 Bit on Win7 x64

I have an ATI Radeon HD 4670 card by VisionTek with 1 GB of RAM in my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate 8 GB workstation.  I run a dual monitor setup, and have all video driver software up to date (as well as Windows 7).  The system is running perfectly, not logging any errors nor exhibiting any signs of other problems.
My video card/system have supported GPU acceleration since PS CS4, and when I first installed PS CS5 I was able to immediately configure the settings to enable OpenGL Drawing in CS5 32 bit, then exercise the GPU (after a restart of CS5 32 bit) but now the settings are unavailable and the software reports "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard":
The 64 bit build of PS CS5 DOES allow the GPU settings, and it works with them just fine:
When I initially ran CS5 32 bit I was NOT running Aero (i.e., the theme was Windows 7 Basic), as I was sharing my desktop with a co-worker using RAdmin (so we could both experience the installation and setup process).  However, manually selecting the Windows 7 Basic theme now does not re-enable the ability to configure OpenGL Drawing.
The only things I did between the time the setting was available and wasn't was to arrange my palettes and create a Workspace within which to keep them.
The memory setting (shown at 100% above for CS5 32 bit) does not affect this issue.
Any ideas how to get back OpenGL acceleration in 32 bit CS5?
    -Noel

Note:  I edited this response after seeing your second response.
On initial startup Photoshop 32 bit is offering the OpenGL configuration, implying the driver has said that it CAN do the OpenGL operations.  Additionally, when enabled (on the first Photoshop startup or subsequently via the registry tweak) the functions DO work, flawlessly from what I can see.
It doesn't MATTER why it doesn't work.  I (the user) don't have the facilities to MAKE it work properly nor even to diagnose it further.  You do.  Thank you for agreeing to look into it further.
There are several purposes a forum can serve:
    1.  Users can help other users get around problems they have, either because they've done something wrong, or via a workaround.
    2.  A dialog can be created between users and developers.
Please, let's not allow item 2 to be an avenue where Adobe just tries mightily to dodge responsibility for the problem.
It's YOUR application that does not work properly.  Everything else works great.  You'll have to trust me on that - if I could provide some additional proof (system uptime info? reliability index? what?) I'd do it in a heartbeat.  I can assure you've I've installed the drivers correctly as well.
I'm a career software developer myself with 34 years experience.  When Windows 7 first came out users started to report crashes of Photoshop after using one of my plugins.  Did I tell them "It's the fault of Windows" or "It's the fault of Photoshop"?  No.  I apologized that MY application was not working perfectly under those conditions.  I then investigated the problem, found that a Windows call having to do with using a patterned pen was causing memory corruption in Photoshop, and developed a workaround so that with that particular combination of software the crash is averted.  I also then reported the root cause of the bug to Microsoft.

  • Enable hyperthreading for virtualized Oracle 11gR2 database (OEL57 64-bit)?

We are virtualizing our Oracle 11gR2 databases (running on OEL57 64-bit) on Vmware 5.1. I've read information at various locations that hyperthreading is not recommended for Oracle 11g database. One example is here, however, I seen many more:

My issue is that Vmware themselves recommends enabling hyperthreading for virtualized Oracle databases in their Oracle Databases on VMware Best Practices Guide.
Does anyone have any practical experience with this issue that can be shared? What are the advantages and disadvantages of enabling hyperthreading for our virtualized Oracle 11gR2 on OEL57 64-bit virtual machines

If you read the comments on that blog you will see that the results are highly dependent on the type of CPU.
The effects can also be dependent on the nature of the workload: you may have CPUs that are fine with an OLTP workload, but don't scale as you might hope with a DW workload.

  • Simple Question: My Core2Duo MacBook cannot use DRIVERS for 64-bit Windows?

What I thought was a Windows 7-only problem, I think I may have realized that I simply cannot use the drivers for 64-bit Windows anyway. I may need to reinstall Windows 7 using the 32-bit disc instead if I want to use all the features of my MacBook.
The thing is, my MacBook is perfectly capable of running 64-bit software, is this not correct? It's only a matter of paying more if I want everything to work? At least I'll run 64-bit Snow Leopard, I'm sure that will work at least!

Are you getting an error saying that Boot Camp x64 isn't supported on your system? If so, try this:
Go here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/507-built-administrator-account-enable-disa ble.html Follow the instructions in option two, its the easiest way. You'll need an external mouse for right clicking.
Once you've enabled that, log out of your account in Windows 7/Vista, log in to the newly appeared "Administrator" account, put in the appropriate disc with the Boot Camp drivers on it, browse the files on the disc. Go into Drivers, then Apple, then right click and run "BootCamp64"as an administrator. Everything installs just fine.
Then follow the instructions on that page I linked to remove the administrator account.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installed on my original aluminum unibody MacBook. It runs without a problem. I've even installed newer nvidia GPU (not chipset) drivers. Both to get better performance in the games I do play and because the drivers that ship with Boot Camp 3 are ancient.
Everything works! Should work on any non-ATI x1x00 series Core 2 Duo Mac, since ATI/AMD will not be supporting Windows 7 on those GPUs.
I posted it originally in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2211248&tstart=15

  • Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings...never did really. Also JAVA now refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox.

I use PaleMoon now trying to get rid of advertising sharks. I have WINXP still - need assistive-technology computer for pain so taking time on getting new computer.
I have been severely sabotaged by advertising conglomerates selling my private information. They have no right -yet they do whatever they want. Anyhow...I've tried to OPT-OUT of EVERYTHING POSSIBLE. I've tried 5 places found. Google, NAI, DAA, & FIREFOX HELP said go to about:config was instructed to turn "from false to true" the "privacy.tracking.protection.enabled" .But I couldn't keep this setting because this also has to be set to false to use any saved log-on's to my accounts., and add-on AD BLOCK PLUS 2.6.7 when I was on Firefox & had some ticks and now it is disabled because it won't work with PaleMoon 25.2.1
This case is about GOOGLE OPT-OUT. Starting here: http://www.google.com/settings/ads?hl=en&sig=ACi0TCgWymel0CNWxdcnEWPzWNs9wDd7cVQHxHsmtz4w30CAyHk7MqyzzZdGh3m6FpDaJsKmunTLEvJZY5LAm3h6gIdzE30L-Q
There are 2 columns. The left one "ADS ON GOOGLE" NEVER RETAINS AFTER LOG-OFF. The right column "Google ads across the web
" seems to retain sometimes - if I remember right it falls off after a period of time as opposed to after just LOGGING-OFF. Below the columns there are options, but I don't have a GOOGLE ACCOUNT.
Also down there is this link: https://support.google.com/adsense/troubleshooter/1631343?hl=en ...you see the box with this: Advertising industry program participation

....I clicked OPTED OUT FOR NAI on their link http://www.networkadvertising.org/
...I clicked OPTED OUT FOR DAA on their link http://www.aboutads.info/
...I clicked PROTECT MY CHOICES and downloaded the app.
These 1st 2 links used to have the same trouble and didn't retain ANYTHING and wouldn't re OPT-OUT ANY UNTIL THEY WERE SATIATED - saying I didn't have 3rd party cookies allowed when I did - this took hours.
I sent numerous trouble reports to them that they ignored - then I think I sent one to Firefox and it is much better but still not completely right. Today DAA retains 106 out of 122 and if I repeatedly RE-OPT-OUT successively I can get it to 121 out of 122 - never completely. (currently the one not taking is Accuen Inc. but it changes periodically - makes me think they set one up to take my info and then share it with all of them - lol )
Same for NAI currently I started with 94 out of 96 - next re-OPTED-OUT got it to 95 out of 96 and no further and same co. Accuen Inc (accuenmedia.com ) wouldn't update.
NOTE: I was copy/pasting the list of NON-OPT-OUT'S to them and my own document file to try and find trends/problems...now NAI programmers protected the list from being able to be COPIED AND PASTED!!! That's the opposite of being open and interested in making this work, right? Why would they want to allow us to OPT-OUT of their criminal espionage behavior...RIGHT? (lol) FYI: I recorded that the big one that was always retained before this one was...MEDIA MATH INC.
MANY Opt-outs would drop off while on-line and ALL would drop-off once logged-off. Now it's retaining most once logged off - but it hasn't been long enough to tell if they'll fall back into their bad habits as they've done before...
This has been going on forever for me - I've been reporting this malfunction since 2013.
Of course I downloaded PROTECT MY CHOICES FOR FIREFOX via NAI AND DAA'S links ...http://www.aboutads.info/PMC#protect-your-choices-for-firefox ............they both go to the same place???.....PROTECT MY CHOICES http://www.aboutads.info/plugin/install/firefox....that seems odd...it's as if they are the same entity then. ABOUTADS is DAA'S WEBSITE. NAI'S IS NETWORKADVERTISING.ORG so why would NAI use DAA'S PROTECT MY CHOICES app?
Lastely, I also requested that the COOKIES NAMES BE UNIFORMLY IDENTIFIABLE. All the OPT-OUT COOKIES that are to be forevermore retained on my computer and that I am to trust the EVERY FUNCTION OF - well they all have different COOKIE NAMES!! Most of the names you can not tell that they are OPT-OUT COOKIES!! - SO NOWWW They have created another problem.
We can no longer just "DELETE ALL COOKIES".
PLUS, we can no longer go through our cookies and delete individual ones that snuck through.
Every one of the OPT-OUT COOKIES SHOULD SAY "OPT-OUT" IWITHIN THEIR NAME OF THEIR COOKIE - PERIOD. RIGHT? (LOL) For real. Why was this mess was allowed?
REALLY IN MY OPINION THESE COMPANIES SHOULD BE BLOCKED AT THE LOCAL PHONE COMPANIES LEVEL - IN OUR SERVERS. We should not have to deal with them. Same thing with viruses, malware and such beasts. But I digress.
    In summary:
    1.)Google Analytics OPT-OUT Browser Add-on 0.9.6 doesn't retain OPT-OUT settings
2.) JAVA refuses to create updates for WinXP/FireFox/PaleMoon.
3.) DAA & NAI still don't retain ALL OPT-OUT settings and never completely OPT-OUT all companies.
4.) OPT-OUT cookies should be uniformly names with the words OPT-OUT in their titles.
5.) Ad Block Plus 25.6.7 doesn't work for Pale Moon and there is no alternative - (didn't work great in FireFox)
Right now I'm mainly interested in #1)retaining my GOOGLE OPT-OUTS while on line AND while logged off since it is attacking my computer and steeling all the speed until it freezes my keyboard.
Currently I am trying to remember to run through 3. OPT-OUTS every time I log on.
    Thanks so much!

Adobe PDF iFilter 9 for 64-bit platforms creates temp folders for some pdfs with attachments in the root of Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 bit machine. Do you know how to solve it?

After having tried all the different suggestions out there I "stumbled" on the REAL solution to this problem (for me at least).
Ensure that the "Windows Search" service has "Allow service to interact with desktop" enabled:
After enabling this you need to restart the service.
Please note that this fix alone (not doing anything else) solves the problem :-)

  • Rasterization of complex postscript-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5

Rasterization of complex PS-file crashes in 64-bit Photoshop CS5
I have a variety of complex postscript files that were created in Adobe InDesign CS3 and CS5 through "print to postscript file". I try to rasterize these files in Photoshop CS5 (64 bit on Macintosh) and it crashes Photoshop even before the dialog box comes where one has to specify the dpi for rasterizing. If I use Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop CS5 with 32 Bit opening, it does not crash; and in this case I can rasterize a 100cm x 160cm format with 300 dpi.
If I reduce the complexity to near triviality it works with the 64 bit version.
A major reason why I bought CS5 was because I thought that with the 64 bit version I can handle rasterization of large files better: there are a few minor artifacts created by rasterization in Photoshop 32 bit version which are presumably due to some memory problems; I thought the 64 bit version can solve it. But now it turns out that the 64 bit version cannot handle complex files at all.
If I use Distiller to convert the postscript-File into a pdf file, then the 64-bit version does the rasterization, but there are some reasons why I prefer the rasterization directly from the postscript file.
Is that a bug of the 64 version?
    V.S.

I did a lot of testing in the meantime since we have often the task to printout large charts with complex content on plotters of medium size printing companies who need tiffs since they cannot handle pdfs with complex contents.
It turns out that for large charts with complex content the method to export from Indesign to pdf with PDF/X-1a profile and subsequent rasterization in photoshop to create the tiffs sometimes produces a few minor artifacts; mainly very thin white lines that you see in the printout. Also it is not good if your file contains graphics for which PDF/X-1a profile sometimes does not yield the desired high quality. (In addition the pdf file has a lot of display artifacts visible on screen but not manifesting in the rasterized photoshop file.)
The use of the "High Quality Print" profile (instead of PDF/X-1a profile) makes it worse since sometimes semi-transparent objects are printed as 100 percent solid. The solution in this case is to change the Acrobat 5 compatibility of the "High Quality Print" profile to Acrobat 4 compatibility, this solves the semi-transparent problem, I don't understand why, but it does.
On Macintosh one can print to pdf (instead of export to pdf), this solves all problems with artifacts as far as I can judge; however  "print to pdf" has PDF/X-1a profile and I don't see any direct way how to change it to "High Quality Print" profile. Presumably I would have to locate somewhere in the Library > Adobe Application Support > Adobe (on Mac) the presets for "print to pdf" and change it if possible.
The easiest way on Macintosh that gives no artifacts is for large charts with complex content to "print to postscript" (with Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD), then use distiller with any suitable profile, like "PDF/X-1a-2001" profile or "High Quality Print" profile, to produce a pdf. This pdf looks fine on screen and simultaneously when rasterized with Photoshop (for example the 64 bit version of CS5) gives you a good photoshop file.
You may be right that the workflow
Indesign > print to postscript > pdf via distiller > rasterize to photoshop file
is outdated for simple and medium complex projects, but for those really complex large charts this is the only viable way to my knowledge; I also know that some of my colleagues use this sometimes for complex projects when export to pdf creates artifacts.

  • Support for 8-bit pseudocolor visuals on Solaris 10 u8 Virtualbox guest

    Hello,
I am running Solaris 10 u8 x86 as a Virtualbox (3.0.8) guest on a WinXP host with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 vcard. I use JDS for the Solaris guest, and only 24-bit truecolor visuals are available for the desktop. I desperately need to run Xnest in 8-bit pseudocolor mode for an application. The video driver supplied with the Vbox Solaris guest additions has limited capability, and I think that until that driver is upgraded, I am out of luck. Does anyone have any different thoughts about that?
Is there a way to edit xorg.conf to get support for 8-bit pseudocolor overlay graphics? Wouldchanging the video driver in that file from vboxvideo to either VGA or VESA help? Any advice from an X expert would be GREATLY appreciated.
I've also tried to use svcadm to get the guest to open in 8-bit mode (default depth), but I think that the Vbox video driver (standard and VESA) only support 16- and 32-bit color modes. Is there some other way to get JDS or CDE in the guest to run in 8-bit color?
    Thanks.....

it looks like you guys were talking past each other.
    >
Note my outputs of xdpyinfo in there: no Pseudocolor visuals in 24-bit mode in the guest (the cause of my problem). My host NVIDIA card has dual DVI outputs, and I have two monitors; are you saying that I set one monitor in Windows to run in 8-bit, and then run Xming on that monitor, and then set up a remote display for my guest, and try and get the guest to display to that remote display? If so, that could be worth a try. If not, maybe I did not fully understand the idea from your first post. I'd rather not have to go out and buy a new dual-headed card unless absolutely necessary. The problem you have is that virtualbox needs a 8 bit display somewhere to send the output to. Send your end display is a windows display in 24 bit mode, it's a lose since windows won't (at least the last time I looked) allow an 8 bit window in a 24 bit desktop. You could try running the main windows display in 8 bit mode and then starting virtual box, but odds of things going in your favor is not great.
Your new idea of running a vnc server in 8-bit mode within Solaris is very interesting indeed. I am unfamiliar with vnc. I saw this page:
    http://www.softpanorama.org/Xwindows/VNC/vnc_on_solaris.shtml
It says that VNC comes with Solaris 10 u5, on the companion CD. I assume that u8 has it also.Somewhere along the line, sun began do bundle vnc as a part of solaris proper. It should be in /bin/vncserver.
I'll look into that. If you know of any other source of info on vnc, please let me know. Thank you VERY MUCH for the suggestion!!!Here's more or less what you should do:
    1) login to your virtual solaris box
    2) Start up a 8 bit vnc server by typing "vncserver -depth 8 :1"
    3) After the setup questions (if I remember, you need to at least set a password), you can connect to the vncserver by
typing "vncviewer :1" and entring the password.
You could also get a windows VNC viewer and connect to the solaris vnc server. This may render faster, since you aren't running the vncviewer in a virtual session.
    4) In the vnc viewer display (which may look funny because the default setup is usually a horriffic twm session), start your Xnest.
If you want cde, edit your .vnc/xstartup to look like:
    #!/bin/sh
    xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
    xsetroot -solid grey
dtterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
    dtwm &
If you want jds, replace the dttterm/dtwm with gnome-panel.

  • 'Enabled support for Retina display'

I'm starting to see that some of the Apps I have installed are showing updates for 'enabled support for Retina display'. So how do Apps look on the new iPad before they get this support? Just the same as on iPad 2?!

    maclover6 wrote:
They will look noticeably clearer on the new iPad. This iPad has a retna display, so it has 3.1million pixels. There are 250 pixles per inch on the new iPad. And only 132 On iPad 2. There are also prosessor upgrades to it as well so you will notice it goes faster. They upgraded the A5 chip to the A5X chip. You will notice that it has very sharp pictures, is is because they upgraded the rear facing camera to a 5 megapixle iSight camera. So to sum up, no apps will not look the same on iPad 2 vs. the new iPad.
So why are the Apps getting specific updates to take advantage of the retina display if they look clearer on the new iPad? Am I missing something here?
The new processor is also good news. I believe it has 1GB of RAM as well, up from the iPad 2. But will the extra power go largely towards powering the new retina display? Presumably having twice the resolution must need a bit more oomph to drive it?

  • Compiling STREAM module for 64-bit kernel

    Hi,
I am trying to compile a STREAM module for Solaris. The results I get when I execute "isalist" and "isainfo -kv" are:
    -"sparcv9+vis sparcv9 sparcv8plus+vis sparcv8plus sparcv8 sparcv8-fsmuld sparcv7 sparc"
    -"64-bit sparcv9 kernel modules"
The host is a Ultra5_10 with SunOS 5.7 sun4u sparc.
First I tried to compile the module with gcc 2.8.1 but altough the compilation apparentelly finisihed OK I did not get to load the module. Later I read that, gcc so far does not generate binaries for 64-bit sparc.
    So I installed the Sun WorkShop 5 environment (try version) and I tried to compile my sources with the following line:"cc -D_KERNEL -xarch=v9 -xcode=abs32 -xregs=no%appl -x03 -I. -I/usr/include -c mymodule.c"
but I get a huge list of errors such as:

    "/usr/include/sys/thread.h/, line 73:sintax error before or at:volatile"
so if I compile adding the directire "-D_ASM" to the previous line, the list of errors descreases to 2 lines:
"/usr/include/sys/kstat.h, line 52: sintax error before or at: hrtime_t"
"/usr/include/sys/kstat.h, line 52: cannot recover from previous errors".
I have also tried adding directives such as: -D_LP64 -D__sparcv9 -D_POSIX_C_SOURCE, -D_XOPEN_SOURCE but I do not get to compile it successfully.
Could someone be so kind to give me a clue of what I am doing wrong, and what should I do in order to compile it??.
The header files I have included right now in my ".c" are:
    #include <sys/stream.h>
    #include <sys/conf.h>
    #include <sys/modctl.h>
    #include <sys/kmem.h>
    #include <sys/cmn_err.h>
    #include <sys/ddi.h>
    #include <sys/sunddi.h>
If I do not add the directives -I. -I/usr/include to the compile line above I get the following error:
"/usr/include/sys/modctl.h, line 185: major, argument mismatch"
"/usr/include/sys/cred.h, line 51: sintax error before or at: uint_t"
But this is because the environment it is taken the /usr/ucbinclude as default include path instead of the "/usr/include". which one should I consider?.
Thank in advance for your support.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
(could you please send to me the answeres to this e-mail:[email protected]??)
    Regards

    HI,
Maybe a file I can edit that says to run the Garmin stuff in 32-bit mode?
Right or control click the Garmin application (or utility) then click: Get Info
In the Get Info window under the General tab, if it can be enabled you should see:
    Open in 32-bit mode.
Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) shows all apps running in 64 bit. If it doesn't have 64 bit under Kind on the right, then it's running in 32 bit mode.
