Enabling iMessage on my Verizon iPhone 4

Okay this might be a dumb question but I want to enable iMessage on my Verizon iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1. I also don't want to disable regular texting for non iPhone users.  I have looked everywhere in settings to be able to activate iMessage but it's not found anywhere. Can anyone help me?

  • Enabling iMessage on iPhone 4?

I enabled iMessage on my iPad and it works beautifully.  However, when I try to enable it in Settings on my iPhone 4 (Verizon), it appears on for a while, but when I move away from the Settings app and go back, it appears off.  ¿Am I missing something?

I have a verizon IPhone and i can't figure out how to get my ringtones from the app to iTunes, my account doesn't have a ringtone section in the liRingtone Folder?brary, how do you enable the ringtone folder?

Edit > Preferences.  Select the check box for Ringtones, this will add them to the listing in iTunes.
Not sure that really answers your question though.

  • Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone.  If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!!   And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

  • How do I get iMessage/Facetime to work on my old Verizon iPhone 4?

I recently upgraded to the iPhone 5s and I'm keeping my iPhone 4 for music and other things. One of those things would be iMessage. Except iMessage keeps saying it's "Waiting for activation...' with no end.
I recently had the same problem with an AT&T iPhone 4s that belonged to a friend, which I was easily able to fix by simply removing the sim card. The problem is the Verizon iPhone 4 doesn't have a sim card to remove. I've tried signing out of iMessage and FaceTime, as well as retoring the phone several times.
The two images show where I believe the problem lies. This phone still somehow thinks that number belongs to it, and so it appears in the Phone settings and Messages>Send & Receive settings as an unchecked, light grey setting. Light grey, I believe, means a setting you cannot edit.
In the case of the AT&T iPhone, the same exact problem existed, but as soon as the sim card was removed, the Phone setting was unavailable and in the Messages>Send & Receive settings it reappeared as a black option with the additional option to start a new conversation with the same number.
My question is, since the Verizon iPhone 4 doesn't have a removable sim card, how do I remove or disassociate the number it was once associated with?
Just to clarify, in both cases (Verizon, AT&T), the same numbers were used after upgrading to the newer iPhone.
I tried to make as much sense as possible to this madness. Please if anyone has any suggestions or answers, help me. I thank you in advance.

  • No joy for moving Verizon iPhone 4S to T-Mobile

My questions on this topic have been answered but I wanted to post back for the benefit of anyone trying to follow.
It has long been known that you could not use a Verizon (CDMA) iPhone 4S on a domestic GSM network such as T-Mobile.  The hardware is capable (more or less) but the phone is software locked against using GSM domestically.  But I had hoped the recent CTIA agreement amongst the carriers might have changed this situation and allowed me to use my wife's old Verizon iPhone 4S  on my T-Mobile account.  At one point both carriers told me that it should work and was not difficult.
That was bad information.  It is NOT POSSIBLE.  Although Verizon was helpful in getting my iPhone 4S enabled for international GSM usage, this was not sufficient.  My new T-Mobile SIM is rejected as "Invalid", just as it always has been.  I spent time on the phone with all 3 entities this morning and eventually both Apple and T-Mobile confirmed that the transfer of an iPhone 4S from Verizon to T-Mobile cannot be done.  (T-Mobile's "BYOD" page certainly does not divulge this.)
This was a huge waste of time.  I wouldn't have started down this path if the simple facts were available and the various reps didn't incorrectly keep encouraging me that it would succeed.  Your mileage may vary, but trust my experience:  I spent hours only in the end to confirm the old information that the change is simply not possible.
There might be some for-fee vendor that can make it work and I would love to hear about anyone that had success that way.  For now it makes more sense to give up and move on, and sell or trade the phone to someone that can use it.

Since the prohibition for use on a domestic carrier is flashed in the phone itself there is no way to work around this. None.
If you had called AppleCare in the first place or gone by the advice here you would have saved yourself a lot of time. Apple has no stake in who you use your iPhone with. T-Mobile wants your business.
Sell your iPhone but before you do put it in DFU mode (Google it) and Restore it as a new iPhone. After that turn off Find My iPhone in iCloud then log out from there and Settings > iTunes and App Store and turn off iMessage and FaceTime.
If you buy a used iPhone 5 you will need to ensure it is an AWS capable phone to use it with T-Mobile. The model numbers are the same so the only way you can test this is to make sure you bought a late model iPhone 5 Model A1429 or to try it with your T-Mobile nanoSIM. If you go with a 5c or 5s unlocked or T-Mobile iPhone you will have no such issue.

  • Store button in Music app doesn't work on Verizon iPhone 4 w/iOS 5?

On my Verizon iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1, in the Music app, tapping the Store button does nothing. Also, there are several screens with links to the iTunes store. If I tap one of these links, I get this message (this time, from the Podcasts screen):
    Restricted URL
    This URL wasn't loaded:
    itms://?action+podcasts&libraryid=com.apple.mobileipod
What's up with this? Do I have to go through my iMac to purchase music to put on my iPhone? The Store button in the Music app on my iPad (also with iOS 5.0.1) works fine.

Found problem in Settings > Restrictions. I had enabled Restrictions but not the individual items such as Installing Apps, iTunes, etc. All is well.

  • IMessage sent to verizon phone number not received

My friend has a Verizon iPhone 4S and an iPad.
She has her phone # and email address associated with iMessage on both the iPhone and the iPad.
As of today, iMessages sent to her phone number  (for example, from my AT&T iPhone 5 and everyone else) never appear on her iPhone.
These iMessages, however, do appear in "Messages" on the iPad.
iMessages sent to the e-mail address do appear on both the iPhone and iPad!
This is really bad, as she is not getting any iMessages sent to the phone number on the iPhone  ( that is any text message from anyone on the iMessage network).
Any ideas? This is so bizarre. I can imagine an iMessage getting lost, but why would it just not appear on one device...

SIgned out ALL devices of iMessage
Sent text message to the iPhone - it showed up as a regular green text message as expected
Signed devices back in , starting with the iPhone
Back at the same situation. iPhone not getting iMessages that are sent to the phone #.
I wonder if there is some problem in the IMessage world.

  • HT5395 Is there anyway to recover my iMessage history from my iPhone to my Mac? Thank you!

Is there anyway to recover my iMessage history from my iPhone to my Mac? Thank you!

    HI,
Sorry I should have been clearer.
The only way to move any iMessages from and iPhone to a Mac is at the point when they are using the same Apple ID.
Older items are not included in this "Sync".
Messages on a Mac will read older .ichat files (Saved Chats).
It seems that the iMessages on the iPhone do get stored in any iPhone Backup and that can be used to Restore Messages from one iPhone to another.
People state that there are utilities for extracting the iMessages (either from the current display or the Backups) but I have not read that any will then enable the result to be imported in to Messages.

  • Can I use my Verizon iPhone in Japan?

Can I use my Verizon iPhone in Japan?

I just used my iPhone 4S in Tokyo and Kyoto. (June 2013) It works perfectly on their CDMA system there, even though I am an AT&T (GSM) subscriber in the US.
It seems that, unlike the earlier iPhone models, the 4S is both CDMA and GSM compatible.  Be careful though, unless you buy a Data Plan from Verizon before you leave the US, the use of their 3G internet access will be really expensive, if you enable "Data Roaming" while traveling there.  Also check to see if you can purchase an international calling plan that reduces the per-minute rate while traveling in Japan, before you depart.  Do the same for text messaging.

  • Cdma A1429 verizon iphone 5 compatible to european 4g/lte?

I have a cdma A1429 verizon iphone 5 and I live in europe(greece). My 4g doesnt work here even though cdma version includes the bands of the gsm a1429 version(which is sold here in europe). Is there anything i can do to make my 4g/lte work??

    @miltoslao
Please make sure you have 4G network coverage in your area first, to confirm have another LTE device with you which has LTE coverage next to you and call customer care from your carrier to resolve the issue. Which network are you on, and in which city?
For example if you are in Athens, the center of Athens would be a good point to test for signal.
In settings -> cellular -> Enable LTE make sure you have this swiched on.
Vodafone has some issues with the activation, which is required for LTE so if you are on Vodafone please call customer care for assitance.

  • Anyone using Verizon iPhone 5 on GLOBE Philippines get LTE ???

I've read a few reports that Verizon's A1429 (CDMA) is able to get LTE on Globe Philippines if you get an LTE enabled nano-SIM card and get your account enabled for LTE.  I've tried all of this but still to nothing.  Not sure if Globe has really done the enabling of my account or not. Or if there is a such a thing.
Other reports have said that only A1429 (GSM) models (Non-North American) can get LTE on Globe Philippines.  That would suck for me.
So can anyone using a Verizon iPhone 5 on Globe Philippines network confirm that they can get LTE?
    Thanks.

I am having a similar problem. I can get phone and text but not internet.
    How did you fix it?

  • HT3406 Using a Verizon iPhone 4 (no sim card) as an iPod touch.

If I were to buy a Verizon iPhone 4 from someone would I be able to use it as an iPod touch? I looked at the apple article about using an iPhone without service and it says that I need a sim card to activate it. Well the Verizon iPhone 4 never came with a sim card. Does this mean that inorder to use the phone as an iPod touch, I need to have service on it?

    TheChaka wrote:
I'm buying the phone off craigslist, and I want to know if I'll be able to use it as an iPod without having to pay for a service agreement. I just want to listen to music.
Yes, you certainly can.  You will still want to plug it into iTunes and activate it with Apple (has notthing to do with cellular service) so you can download music and apps to it.  An iPhone not associated with a cellular service contract is effectively nothing more than an iPod Touch anyway.
If the seller does not do so, you'd be best to also do a full restore on it to set it up as new for yourself and your content and use.
Since this is a CDMA iPhone, in order to be sure the cellular radio is not wasting power, just enable airplane mode, then re-enable just wifi.  That will leave the cellular radio OFF and power on just the wifi radio.
I used my old iPhone 3Gs as an iPod Touch for a good couple of years, no problems with that intended use.
(p.s. if this was a GSM iPhone, then yes, you would need a SIM, any SIM, in it in order to activate it in iTunes.  For a CDMA phone, you simply skip that part of the process - just plug it in and activate in iTunes).

  • Why don't I have location-based reminder capability on my Verizon iPhone 4 w/iOS 5.0.1?

I updated my Verizon iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and I do not have the location-based reminder feature. I have followed the process to create a location-based reminder but do not see the option when I get to the "Remind Me" screen. Is the problem related to Verizon? Or have I overlooked something in settings?

Location based Reminders only work with lists in your iCloud Reminders account. Make sure you’ve enabled iCloud and iCloud Reminders sync first.

  • Unable to enable imessage: 'username or password is incorrect'

when trying to enable imessage on my iphone 4 an error message displays: 'username or password is incorrect' the same happens when trying to activate facetime, why is this and is there anyway to fix it so i can use imessage?

It’s a known fact that official iOS devices sold in the UAE don’t have FaceTime installed and UAE is not available in the list of countries when signing up for iMessages. However, with the upgrade to iOS 6, some people are facing issues trying to activate FaceTime or iMessages even if they have an imported device that worked well with the above two services on iOS 5.
What is happening is that in IOS 6, Apple is also checking the address defined in your Apple ID associated with your account. So while creating your Apple ID, if you chose UAE as your location, you will not be able to validate your email/password in iMessages or FaceTime under iOS 6.
There is a simple way of getting this to work though. On your newly iOS 6 updated iPhone or iPad, go to the iTunes App and scroll all the way down to the bottom where it says Apple ID : (your account). Tap on your account and select View Apple ID. Here you will see an option to change your Country/Region and chances are that UAE is currently selected for your account. Change this location to another country such as UK, US or wherever else you fancy and accept the new agreement.
You might need to enter a valid address for the country you chose as your new location so make sure you have one handy. Once this is done, go back to iMessages and/or FaceTime and sign in with your Apple ID. You should now be able to sign into both of these services. Once you are signed in, you can go back to iTunes and change the location of your account back to the UAE
