Enabling manual email archive?

Hi,
Running Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2010 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain and I had previously disabled manual archiving from a customized installation routine. At the time no one needed it but a couple users had turned it on by mistake and it was
causing issues, so I disabled it.
A couple years down the road now and a few of my managers want to keep more messages than our mail box policies allow so I suggested archiving, forgetting I had previously disabled it. D'oh!
So now I want to re-enable it and I think group policies is the way to go. But I'm having a little trouble figuring it all out. I have the templates installed and spent the last hour looking through it but can't seem to find the settings
I'm looking for, can someone point me in the right direction? I don't think we are interested in AutoArchiving right now, just manual.
Secondly, I think it would be best to locate the PST file on a server so that they can be located from any computer a user logs into. I'd like to store it in the user's Documents folder, maybe under a sub folder there, is there some environment variable
that will point me to the location of the user's documents folder? I have another policy redirecting their documents folders to a server share.

Ok, the OCT and GPO admin templates for Office, are organised in a similar expandable-branch kind of structure.
If you open your MSPfile with the OCT (setup /admin) you can check which settings in the MSPfile are set to non-default values, and then compare the location of that setting, in the GPO admin template.
The settings reference workbook is a handy resource to search for a particular setting:

The sheet named "ADMX, ADML, and ADM Settings" is for GPO, and the sheet named "OPAX and OPAL Settings" is for OCT.
The main difference between using OCT vs. GPO, is that settings delivered via OCT are a "preferences" (i.e. a custom default to deliver, but the user can change the setting if they choose. The equivalent setting via GPO, is a "policy", so the user is locked
out of changing that setting. (although GPP allows you to deliver as a preference, albeit with a bit more effort)

How to enable mail list archives in the wiki?

I have had a group wiki for some time, but the group maillist service was not enabled until recently. When I enabled "server group mail lists" in Server Admin and selected the "Mailing list" option in WGM for this group, I hoped that the "Mail" tab would appear in the wiki after sending a few messages to the group. Not so.
Using the 'serveradmin' command, it looks like the listArchive option is disabled:
$ sudo serveradmin settings web | grep -i listarchive
web:Sites:array_id:123.456.789.12:443wiki.mydomain.ca:mailingListArchive = no
When I try to change it, serveradmin echos "emptyarray":
$ sudo serveradmin settings web:Sites:array_id:123.456.789.12:443wiki.mydomain.ca:mailingListArchive = yes
web:Sites = emptyarray
...and the mailingListArchive attribute is still set to "no". Am I doing something wrong? How can I enable group list archives?

Found it: Server Admin -> Web -> Sites -> Web Services -> Mailing list web archive. Then go back to WGM -> Groups -> Basic, and the option for mailling list web archive is no longer greyed out.
Checking the wiki after a webserver restart, I get the "mail" tab now. There are no emails in the web archive, but thats a different issue .

AD Sync and Email Archive

I've got a two part question here...
1) When setting up a new Office 365 service, can the service be started before the AD structure is in place, or must there be a directory server prior to starting service?
2) Is email archiving available? Not just email records, but full message archiving.

Regarding email archiving, Outlook client has a built-in feature - AutoArchive, which can move old items (full message) you want to keep to an archive, a separate Outlook Data File (.pst) that you can open from Outlook any time you need
it.

I currently have an iPhone and iPad, and am soon changing over to a Mac. When that happen I'd like to try to see what I can migrate over from the Google ecosystem to the iCloud ecosystem.
1) Currently I have the Gmail iOS app (a webapp container) that can search server-side of several years of email archive. Can iCloud do this using the iOS native mail application? Or is the search just limited to what the device has downloaded locally?
2) Do I have to use a @me.com address for the full iCloud email sync to take place between server, Mac, and iOS devices?
Believe it or not I've read quite a bit about the iCloud services, but the answers to these questions were far from clear. Many thanks for the help.

2) iCloud only syncs email between .me/.mac addresses. For other accounts like google, you set up the account in the mail app and if they're IMAP accounts, you can sync between the google server and any devices you have defined that account on.
I'm not absolutely sure about 1) since I haven't had to search going back years - I use MailSteward for that on the mac. On my iPhone/iPad, when I go into a mailbox and the emails are not immediately available, it downloads them. I suspect for a search, you need the emails downloaded.

PDF email archives: How to selectively re-export to new archive/.pst?

A while back, I made PDF email archives of a variety of Outlook folders, and eventually deleted the Outlook messages in question.
Now, unfortunately, I am wishing I had not. So, a few "save the day" type of questions:
1) Can I convert an entire PDF email archive, or portions of an archive, back into Outlook format? How? (If you know the answer to this, ignore the rest!)
2) Can I selectively search a PDF email archive, and then group-export the messages displayed in the search results into a separate PDF email archive? How? I can manage to use the filters to select a group of messages, but I can't manage to re-export them to a new archive or a PDF portfolio.

It cannot be done in InDesign, but, as you surmised in Acrobat.
You'll need to ask in the Acrobat forums. I don't know of any changes like that in Acrobat DC but because I don't program in JavaScript, I might have overlooked it. Try one of these forums:

Disable Default EMail client / Enable select Email client

Hi ,
I am using the livecycle and invoking the process via email and its working fine. But whenever i clicks the submit button it always opens with MS outlook email client.
use my current email program is checked in computer defaults of internet option but if i use my web emails( like yahoo and gmail ) still it opens with MS outlook . So how can i disable this option or how can i enable the option Select EMail Client tpo select the email client based on the user.

I tried to remove in winodows registy and all the way But its always coming with outlook email client when i click the button in adobe reader .
Usually when we clicks the button in adobe , It should come with Select EMail Client dialogue box but its not working. I used the code event.target.submit() in the click event to send mail.
Any alternate soultion to disable outlook email client or enable select email client dialogue box in adobe reader.

Acrobat email archive - after appending old emais disappear from archive

We have created an email archive with the new Acrobat 10/Outlook 2010. When emails are appended to the archive, older emails in the archive disappear. If the archive is sent to someone else with either Acrobat 10 or Acrobat 9, they have the same problem with the archive. What's going on? Any clies out there?

What type of email account do you use? Is the sync slider setting set to sync just a few items? Check in File, Account Settings, double click on the account - the sync slider on that dialog for IMAP, Outlook.com, and Exchange.

You select the printer properties and set the appropriate page size (I think there is a place to set it in PDF Maker too, but not sure). In the printer, this is equivalent to putting the proper paper in the printer.

No option to enable html email. An issue with the carrier. RIM please help

I am registered as a BIS user with STC ( Saudi Telecome. www.stc.com.sa ). I turned out that data over the air compression is turned off! As a result , I can't enable html email. resending service book , pulling the battery and upgrading OS won't enable the html option on my blackberry bold, as it is a restriction imposed by RIM when over-the-air compression is turned off by the carrier.. I am on thier unlimited package and hence I have no problem in consuming uncompressed large amout of data. Can you please enable this feature!! I hardly see the reason not to.

Constant NAV messages re: "infected files/emails/archives"

I'm in the middle of migrating all users from Mac OS X Panther to Mac OS X Tiger, and decided it was a good time to migrate them from Entourage to Mac OS X Mail & Address Book.
However, now users (including me) are getting frequent NAV Repair Alert messages re: infected files/emails/archives. Each message references a specific email (4950.emlx, 3875.emlx, etc.). Yet, when I search in the user's Mail directory using File->Find or Spotlight, I get no hits.
FYI, All updates to Tiger and NAV already applied.
On my machine, the scan details in NAV indicate a file in /private/tmp, but the file and/or directory it refers to doesn't appear to exist.

My users are getting frustrated at these contant messages coming up on their screen.

Seems like a permissions error to me... maybe check the actual file it is attempting to scan... I know it is in your home folder, but just to be sure, you might want to check that everything is sane.

Manual delete archived log files

Because we don't have RMAN in our development server, I need to use manual operation to delete all archived logs. Is my procedure correct and safe?

If the archives are deleted manually in open mode, how can Oracle match the archived logs' retention policy? Does Oracle store the archived logs in data dictionary?While you can delete archivelogs manually any time you want, you should let rman manage them with appropriate rman commands, preferably in a script that you schedule for regular execution.
Some of your questions lead me to question if you understand that archivelogs are not actively open by the database, and they technically are not part of the database. They are simply a series of "offline" copies of the online redo logs. They are written to once, when an online redo is being archived, then they just sit there until needed for a recovery.

Recover email archives on DLTtapeIV

So, we have been asked to recover emails archived by a company that retired their Sun Netra T 1405 and StorEdge L280 some years ago. We have no monitor or keyboard but reached the login via terminal session, no problem there. All ok until we enter the root password they have for it: no good and they have no other passwords.
We tried the tapes in a Quantum DLT4 drive but they are not reading and get rejected.
We put together a Solaris x86 10 system but learned through another very informative thread here that our AHA-2940 will not work with the drive (we would need a 2944) but ... even if we got one, I wonder if we are just going down another dead-end alley. Would we be able to reconstruct the archives without the catalogue (which i am presuming is on the Netra)?

resetting the root password would be great but the two Sun/Solaris experts I have tried to hire for this do not seem to be up to that task, implying that that was not feasible.
Either these are no experts or they rated this as an illegal action.
The procedure requires a CD-ROM drive and a Solaris CD (8, 9 or 10).
If the optional CD-ROM drive isn't installed, you have to use netboot, but this involves setup of a boot server with Solaris ....
If you use google (or any search machine) with the keywords "lost +root +password" (without quotes) you get over twelve thousand (12000) hits.
Some of the descriptions are very detailed (they even take care of the editor used), other show only the direction (mounting the /-filesystem of the disk, making changes to /etc/shadow). The procedure doesn't reveal the former root password, the need to enter the password is removed.
It's not a security breach, because it requires direct access to the system.

Enabling / Disabling Email accounts during working Hours

All,
I have my work email and personal email coming in to the same account under Mail. I am finding on weekends i am getting new email into my work account (nothing abnormal there) but worst i am reading and responding to them - i.e. should be enjoying the weekend not working but the self discipline is lacking and temptation to read them is just too much!
i would like an automatic way to either exclude the work email being received during Sat / Sun or find a way (thought about script excuted from iCal) that could disable / enable work email Friday night / Monday morning. Either that or any configurable app that allows me similiar control over the accounts
Any ideas on best ways to acheive.

Sorry for clarification - i have two email accounts, both going into a single Mail under a single user login; ones a .Mac account, one's an IMAP account connecting to work.
They already both go to individual mail boxes so i don't need to set up rules to split, the issue i am trying to get around is avoiding looking at new email that arrives in my work email box during the weekends.
Please don't get me wrong, its an irritation i would like to avoid rather than a system critical issue so refinement being the objective purely with geek-hat on rather than desperate-user.
Any thoughts on solving welcomed!
