Enabling OData feed on Windows 7 or 8 (Not Windows server)

In Power BI, to create a data source to access the on-premise database online through Power Query, I need to enable OData Feed using DirSync.
I found that DirSync can be installed only on machines running Windows Server. Is there any way to configure it on Windows 7 or 8.1 ?
Or is there any other way to have live connection between my data in the database and the dashboard in Power BI so the dashboards can update the data?

I made an AIR desktop application using Flashbuilder 4.5. I used a Mac with OS Lion for this and the application works fine. My client tested the application on Windows XP and it was fine but when tested on Windows 7 some part of the application did not show up. The application is using a SQLite database. However, not only the data but buttons etc on two related pages are also missing. Has anybody experienced something similar or knows what the problem could be? AIR applications should independent of the system.

That sounds odd that one Windows OS is working, but the other is not. Is there anything in your logic that could change the view states of these controls? If you'd like, I'd be willing to also take a look. Feel free to send your project or installer to [email protected] and I'll try on my systems.

Windows (Vista) Calendar not supported for sync to iPhone?

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate x64 and I have an iPhone 3g S 32GB and in iTunes with my iPhone selected and I am under the Info tab it will show and allow syncing contacts to Windows Contacts but the calendar section says no supported calendar can be found.
Why will it sync to windows contacts but not windows calendar? Pretty stupid if you ask me. I do not plan to go out and spend $150 on Outlook 2007 or $100 a year for MobileMe just for this feature. This is just absolutely stupid that iTunes won't recognize Windows Calendar but it will recognize Windows Contacts, Windows Mail, and even syncing bookmarks from Internet Explorer.
If it is supposed to recognize the calendar, maybe Apple broke something in iTunes 8.2? I tried an uninstall of iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support that was suggested at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692 I followed all the information there it still doesn't let me sync with Windows Calendar.

Unfortunately, you are out of luck. MobileMe can only sync calendars to Outlook. Maybe a future update will allow syncing to Windows Calendar but for now, there is no direct method of syncing.

Issue consuming Odata feed with Power Query (not in Power BI)

I am trying to consume an OData feed from an SSRS report using Power Query ( latest release on Excel
2010 x32). The Report server is in my company intranet.
In the SSRS report, I can generate an Atom service file. When I use this file in PowerPivot, I can successfully import the report data and refresh it on demand. But I
would like to do the same thing in Power Query using the "From OData feed" feature.
1. I have tried supplying the URI to the service file
= OData.Feed("file:///C:/Users/Bdarbonneau/Documents/temp/Manuf_cycle_time_mapping_table.atomsvc")
I get this error :
DataFormat.Error: The supplied URL must be a valid 'http:' or 'https:' URL.
2. I tried supplying the URL that the service file contains, but without success.

My Current workaround for pulling data from SSRS until the dev team have worked out the odata issue is to pull the report in as a csv file:

I also tried pulling an excel file from SSRS with no success.

How to enable RSS feeds in UCM

Help required in enabling RSS feeds in UCM .
I have no idea about RSS enabling.

Hi Everyone,
I have found that the Sample RSS Feed Component (as suggested in this thread) no longer work in 11g for RSS Feed ingestion (from a remote server) but are fine for producing RSS Feeds (simple iDoc templating anyhow).
The logs from the GET_REMOTE_FEED service indicate the following error.
I have tried this on our DEV server and my local laptop instance and don't believe this is network connectivity issues.
Alas, I am not a Java programmer to look further into the issue - does anyone have an updated GET_REMOTE_FEED service or can advise on the issue (likely an update to 11g required such as the idcToken? change).

Can't refresh OData Feed (PWA Report)

I used to create reports in Project Web App. And to fetch the newest data from the projects, I would open the report -> Excel Online -> Data -> Refresh All Data
Well, it doesn't work anymore. In Excel Online it says: "External Data Refresh Failed". Then it lists all connections that couldn't be refreshed. It's all OData Feeds "Problemdata, Projectdata, etc."

I thought it would help if I'd setup the ODC File on my own. Maybe my defaults are corrupted? So I just created a data feed within Excel. That works! I would upload it to PWA: https://mysite.sharepoint.com/sites/pwa/PWADataConnections/
Then I included the link to the file and it says: "We can't use the data of this feed."
So there seems to be a major problem with my OData feeds within PWA. I looked the problem up in the internet, but couldn't find anything.

Why does my Cisco router firewall block Windows Server 2012 traffic, but not Windows Server 2008 traffic?

Hello,
   I run a small business network with five physical servers: three Dell servers running Windows Server 2008 R2, one custom build running 2008, and another custom build running 2012 with Domain Controller Role (same hardware for both custom builds).
The Dell servers are all running the Hyper-V role and each has a number of 2008 VMs. I also have a 2012 VM with the Domain Controller Role on one of the Hyper-V servers and another VM with a completely base install of 2012.
   All servers are plugged into a Cisco SG300-52 switch which is uplinked to a Cisco 881 router which is connected to a cable TWC provided Ubee cable modem. I have no VLANs setup. I do have the Firewall on the router configured
to inspect most traffic.
   Here is my problem: I cannot connect to most of the internet on ANY 2012 server (and all exhibit the exact same behavior), but I have NO problems connecting to the internet from 2008 servers. Here is what I already know:
   1.) I can ping the outside world just fine so ICMP is passing to any external host.
   2.) Two of the 2012 servers are DCs running DNS services and they can connect to the internet just fine for DNS requests because they are doing a perfectly good job of providing DNS services to my network.
   3.) Here's where it gets really weird: I can browse in internet explorer to Bing.com and it works. I can also go to a couple other Microsoft websites (though they are very slow). If I click on any link in Bing, however, it doesn't
work and gives me a page not available error. If I connect to a non-MS website like Google or my company website, I get page not available.
    4.) I have tried to telnet to port 80 at Bing and it works. I have tried to telnet to port 80 at google.com and it won't connect. The 2008 servers have no issue telneting to either bing or google on port 80 and none of my client
PCs on the network do either.
    5.) Windows Update will not connect and neither will any other update service such as AVG (I have AVG Antivirus installed WITHOUT firewall on two of the three servers. The base 2012 VM has no software installed and no roles...I built it
just to see if it could connect after a fresh install and it still cannot.)
    6.) The network connection does not indicate limited connectivity (probably because ICMP appears to be passing successfully)
     7.) If I connect the server directly to the modem it has full internet access.
     8.) All internal LAN connectivity is perfectly fine and runs at full speed.
     9.) I have scoured the internet trying to find other examples of this particular kind of connectivity issue on 2012 and I have found two TechNet articles that are similar, but they both had the same resolution: changing the router
worked, but no one knows why. (I would have included the links, but apparently I cannot do that yet)
My question is this: What is different about Windows Server 2012 networking that would render it unable to communicate through a router that Windows Server 2008 has no problems with? I ask because, unlike in these two articles where they were
running personal networking equipment they could easily upgrade, I'm running a Cisco 881 with what should be virtually limitless configuration options and I have no desire to replace it. I have to assume the issue is somehow related to the firewall configuration,
which I could fix easily, but I don't know what to change. If anyone knows what changed in 2012 and why I would be able to browse to bing and other MS sites but no where else, please pass them along. Thanks.

NOTE: 10.10.10.220 and 10.10.10.221 are the other domain controllers on my network. One of them is 2012 and one of them is 2008. They are both functioning correctly for providing DNS services. The 2012 Virtual DC, however, still has
the internet connectivity issue that this whole post was about in the first place.
NOTE2: When I logged on to COMPANYDC02 this morning, it told me that I had new Windows Updates that needed to be downloaded.   Confused, I checked the most recent time WU had checked for updates at it had successfully checked for updates last night
at 10pm. Of course, it failed when trying to download them, but it appears that once in a while, a connection gets through successfully...

Lenovo IdeaTab Lynx K3011 Windows 8 Will not boot to usb/dvd

I have tried almost everything, over the course of the past few day's, to get this tablet to boot to usb/dvd drive. Secure boot has been disabled. Cannot access a boot menu on startup. When using windows 8 boot manager and selecting boot to usb cd or usb hdd, the system simply restarts. I have tried many bootable usb keys formatted in ntfs or fat32 with windows xp(32bit), windows 7(32), or windows 8(32). I have also tried booting to a DVD's on a external dvd drive with xp(32), 7(32), or 8(32bit) with no success. Both devices in all cases are recognized in the (UEFI)bios boot manager and I am able to reset the boot order. I have tried hitting the f2 or the f12 keys when booting on an external keyboard. I have tried hitting the power button and the volume up button on startup but this does'nt work either. When I access the UEFI settings I do not have an option to enable legacy bios. The need I have is to boot to a Symantec Ghost usb key with Windows PE for imaging and deployment purposes, any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I created a bootable 32bit following this thread ME400C Wipe and Clean and make sure the USB has to be 32bit and EFI bootable UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.
The plug in your USB keyboard, mouse, Windows Setup USB Drive, change the boot order, disable Windows Boot Manager and it should detect the Windows Setup USB Drive.
**I won't know how to use an external DVD if you don't have access to create this USB drive.

Windows 7 (Ent) Sp1 on server 2012 R2 HyperV, RFX USB redirection not working

I currently have windows server 2012 R2 with HyperV installed. I have built two virtual machines. A windows 8.1 and Windows 7 sp1. Both are enterprise editions
For RemoteFX the hypervisor is using a Zotec GTX 760 GPU. It recognizes it and uses it to apply remoteFX adapter on my Windows 7 Sp1 VM.
As you are aware I do not need to use a GPU to enable RFX on my Windows 8.1 it can do this without the need of a GPU.
Using an RDP client( v8.1) I can connect to my Windows 8.1 VM with a USB headset,memory Key or a printer and they all enumerate on the Virtual machine. The driver for each device installs
and I can use the device without any issues.
However this issue lies with the Windows 7 SP1 VM. I can connect to it via RDP( Same client) but I cannot redirect any devices to it. I have installed the latest integration services available on the VM. I have ran all updates available.
Because I have ran all updates the rdp version on the VM is running v8.1.
Previous to installing the updates USBr still was not working
I have enabled the following group polices under remote desktop services on the Windows 7 SP1 VM :
RDP 8.0 -- Enabled
Configure RFX -- Enabled
Is there a known issue with USB redirection not working on a Windows 7sp1 virtual machine hosted on server 2012 Hypervisor ??

According to the log above, I found that we run the script on both Server6 and Server7. Errors as below:
Server6: Conversion is not supported in restricted language mode or a Data section.
Server7: Couldn't figure out valid servers from the specified destination scope. Check your parameters and try again.
Since we can only run the RollAlternateserviceAccountPassword.ps1 Script on CAS server, the script not works well if Server6 is MBX server.
For Server7, based on the error message, it seems you still have no right to run the script/cmdlet.
Please add your account to Organization Management Role group(ADUC->domain.com->Microsoft Exchange Security Groups) to test if possible.

Have you tried any method to resolve this problem? According to your description, I doubt this is Graohic driver problem. Please check Event Viewer if it identify this problem.
In addition, please try to uninstall Graphic driver, just let system install its build in compatibility Graphic driver for test.

Can connect to Mac users, but not Windows.

I have been able to connect to other Mac users signed onto AIM accounts in iChat, but not Windows users signed onto AIM. Help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I am at college and away from all my loved ones, and desperately want to chat with them.

I am sorry that only 2 hours and 15 minutes left you disappointed.
Some things to consider.
1) they have to be on XP.
2) they have to be using AIM 5.9 or Trillian Pro
3) if they use AIM 5.9 they have to Tune the Camera and Mic to the Application. See message 570 in that link (Access to these preferences in in the My AIM menu now or use F3)
4) Whichever App they use it has to be Enabled through the XP firewall. IF at Service Pack 2 they need these instructions an earlier version of XP has to have the Firewall disabled.

The ports that iChat uses have to be opened at your end although it sounds like they are.
The port for AIM/Trillian have to opened in their modem at their end.

Private network issue - Windows 7 machine not restricting Windows 8 on the network

I have 2 machines at my home, a windows 7 home premium and a new machine with windows 8.1. The windows 8 machine can get to anything, regardless of user account, regardless of directory, including
hidden files and folders, on my windows 7 machines without requiring any kind of authentication. This is not the case for a 2nd windows 7 machine that I can connect to the same network - it can't see the first windows 7 machine on the network at all.
I've validated that the advanced sharing options on my windows 7 machine are set to the following (in all the network profiles):
Network discovery is turned off
file and printer sharing is turned off
public folder sharing is turned off
media streaming is blocked
file sharing encryption is enabled for 40- and 56-bit encryption (to allow a Vista laptop to share files)
password protected sharing is turned on
I'm not using Homegroup, and have ensured that even the names of each not-used Homegroup on each machine is different, and the passwords for each homegroup is different just in case.
I can go to the File Explorer on the windows 8 machine, and in the network section, the windows 7 machine is visible (why since it is not discoverable?). If I go to Windows Explorer on the windows 7 machine, I get an error message that network
discovery must be enabled for me to view other devices on the network....
From File Explorer on my windows 8 machine, I can select the C: drive on the windows 7 machine, and see any folder, any file without any restriction. There is no prompt for userid / password, and the userid I'm using on the windows 8 machine
does not exist on the windows 7 machine. I can READ anything, I can copy any file from the windows 7 machine to the windows 8 machine, but I do get an error message that I need permission from SYSTEM to save some changes directly to the windows 7 machine
(for example, renaming a file in the windows\winSxS directory.
I really want to have the windows 7 machine discoverable so I can get to the windows 8 machine too. I would like to force userid/password authentication on each machine (both have multiple user accounts) when accessed from a network. But
my primary problem is the lack of blocking any access from the windows 8 machine to the windows 7 machine.... Any help appreciated.

I am confused about this sentence. Did you use HomeGroup on earth?
In addition, I suspect the Windows 7 and Windows 8 computer have the same local administrator user account and password. Both UNC access and Windows log on use the SLA authentication. The LSA handles user logon and authentication on the local computer,
and if the authentication package processing the logon request supports pass-through authentication, the LSA can also log users on to other computers on the network. So, using the same administrator account with same password will bypass the authentication
in UNC.
Please change the local administrator user password which you used to access the Windows 7 for Windows 8 machine for test.

Query a Odata feed on UI update in Excel

I have an Odata service which has a function named Foo() which returns me data after doing operations and also have another function foo2() which returns a different set of data.
now i have a drop down list in excel and on selecting value one it should query the odata feed to return the dataset from foo() and on selecting the second it should return the dataset from foo2()
How do i do this. any help would be much appreciated

I think you will need to use VBA code to achieve it. As I'm not quite know how to call the Odata service function within Excel, you need to modify the VBA code.
Anyway, if the drop down list was created by using data validation, and located in Range A1, then you can try the VBA code below:
